This is a good place to take a special friend or friends for a cup of tea. I absolutely was taken in by the Peter Pan and craftsy indoor decor - the tea cups hanging from tree branches as a chandelier, the Peter Pan quotes and especially the elegant looking washroom decor. Always keeps me spell bound just observing the decor. Their scones with cream and preserve are finger licking delicious - just the right mix of crumbly and soft. Was pleased to see a vegan high tea offered for takeout to celebrate Mother's Day. Unfortunately, the eats left me with the impression of pretty looking cardboard (eek). Breads leaned stale and sandwich fillings lacked distinction. The dainties did not go beyond non-descript sweetness. The ordering process also gave the impression that we had some choice in which items would be provided (tick boxes were given at time of ordering) but it seems those selections were disregarded and we were given the set menu items with no modifications, as well as the tea in leaf format, not "brewed" as offered/requested. If these selections were not going to be honoured, I just wish I'd have known so I could make arrangements to bring hot water of my own, as we took this straight to a picnic from picking up. The portions were also very small considering the price, but sometimes this is just what you're dealing with in the realm of high tea. I will say pick up was prompt and organized and we really thought the to-go serveware (including 3-tier display) was top notch and a great touch. Also, I had the lavender EG tea this evening at home and it was very tasty. As for the high tea altogether though - great concept but given aforementioned issues, sadly won't won't be back. Vancouver seems to have a flourishing tea culture. Neverland Tea Salon in Kits is another addition to the afternoon tea scene. With 2 birthdays in October, we had to try it out. They listed a gluten-dairy option for their Afternoon Tea Set at $37 pp, which was a real draw because one of our friends had dietary restrictions. And who doesn't want to be transported for an afternoon to Neverland? As far as ambiance goes, it's quaint, bright and nicely decorated. However, the tea dining area is quite compact. People bumping up against chairs, handful of tables. Also, it was kind of loud with all the chatter and echoing in the open concept kitchen/dining area with exposed high ceilings. Not that I don't enjoy a lively atmosphere, but not when we signed up for afternoon tea with the purpose to enjoy treats and gab with friends. A tea salon is not a bistro. And that was the overall feel - more bistro, less tea salon. I am guessing because of the size of the room and small number of tables, they only had one highchair available. It was being used by another table, so our little one was not able to use one. This might be something to note if you plan on bringing a little one. The tea selection was really good. We ordered the Neverland blend and Peter's Promise. Hands down we all loved Peter's Promise. Really good. Really good. Did I say really good. Peter's Promise. (Also we loved the little details and references to Neverland throughout - menu items, decor, etc). It was also nice that each pot did not have tea leaves. Ordinarily, we were worrying about steeping our tea for too long or tea leaves getting weak and needed refill. One unique feature was that their tea was brewed separately and refilled as needed. There were no leaves to worry about in our pot. Now to the food. The savouries (little sandwiches) were yummy delicious and generous portions - both regular and gluten free versions. We all liked the roasted veg sandwich the best. Mmm mushrooms. The scones with devonshire cream and jam were not as generous in portion (we only got a little one each) and a bit on the dry hard side. As for the gluten free version, it fell apart easily (as do a lot of gluten free products do) and they had a dairy free devonshire cream which was a bit like clumpy butter. The desserts were overall tasty. To be honest, this is where most of the afternoon tea places fail. However, we had a raspberry marshmallow square, chocolate cake (really dense and rich), and a chocolate cup with passionfruit cream and fruits. We all loved the chocolate cup. However, none of us were fans of the marshmallow not because it didn't taste good but because it was a marshmallow. Overall the service was pleasant and made us feel very comfortable. I would go back again if ever in Kits. However, for $37pp it is a bit on the steep side for the small portions. Definitely worth trying it out once. read more

Yikes. As a pastry chef I can say this place is not good. Very slow service, food has been made hours before and is brought out. The cream for my scone was hard and cracking (had been left out) and my 2-inch tiny scone was cold. Oh the funniest part is asking the server what flavour of scones they have! Maybe lavender, earl grey, lemon?? NOPE. She says we have sweet scones?? Lol. So they are not flavoured just sprinkled with sugar. The staff are not professionally trained and it shows. I wanted to take my sister, mom, and boyfriend here for a special occasion -- as we love high tea and have never been to this location before. I had 2 entertainment coupons I purchased so I could use them on this day. I emailed the teahouse, as I wanted to tell them about some allergies we have and to mention the coupons -- before I made the online reservations. However, I waited over 1 week and I still have not received a response back. I decided to called to see if I could talk to someone in person. It was very difficult to actually get ahold of them - I called at least 6 times on 2 different days. Once someone finally answered the phone, I mentioned that I had 2 coupons. The woman on the other line said that I can only use 1 per table. I explained that I looked on their website and did not see anything about it -- even in their Q&A section. I also read the fine print on the entertainment coupon. Nowhere did it say "1 per table" or "1 per customer". The fine print on the coupon only said, "not valid with any other discount/promotion or on defined holidays". The employee just stated that it was just their restaurant policy that they have. I asked where I could find this information and if it was on their website, because I couldn't see it. She did not have an answer for me. I was not pleased with her response, as she quickly hung up the phone without even a "goodbye". It is also frustrating when you email an establishment, and don't get a response back in a timely matter. I feel like if there is a "1 coupon per table" policy it should be clearly stated on the coupon and or website. If not, they should honour the 2 coupons -- as I could have easily booked reservations and showed up not knowing their policy. read more

If Yelp allowed half stars then this place would be at least a 4.5! As one of the below posts mentions, this place has the BEST high tea food I've ever had, in Vancouver or elsewhere. The pastries and tea are also very reasonably priced, and with the high tea you get refills - and then the bill comes with little tea samples. So cute! My server was prompt, friendly, and took the time to explain each individual item on the high tea tower to us and to ask questions about my friend's nut allergy. She also let us switch tea flavours throughout our meal! I really appreciated this because I got to try one of their many blended black teas (I got the black currant but my friend got the Neverland blend which I can't wait to try next time as it smelled amazing) with my sandwiches, and then I switched to a caramel rose rooibos tea for the dessert portion of my tea tower. Also the decor is so cute!!! I wanted to photograph every little detail, down to the honey pots and floral milk jugs. I had to remind myself to put down my phone and actually EAT the food once I had finished photographing it. Everything was presented with care and each of us had a different teacup - so many little things made you feel like you were having tea at an Alice in Wonderland tea party! One of the owners came by and checked in our table and told us more about the teas and tea system. She was very sweet and excited about the tea-infused lattes - I'll have to try one next time. The high tea can be quite a lot of food, so if you're going for high tea (they also have an a la carte menu with salads, soup, sandwiches) either come hungry or ask the server to wrap up the rest for you. I got my scone to go and they even included the devonshire cream and jam in my to-go containers, which I happily discovered when I got home and needed a snack later. All in all it was a really nice afternoon. One of my girlfriends may have her baby shower here, so I can't wait to come back! My only tip is that I would call and reserve a table in advance because it got quite busy at one point and I overheard some people get turned away because all the tables were reserved. read more

I reeeeaalllyyy wanted to (and tried) to love this place, but it was a straight downhill trajectory after the initial high of entering a super adorable tea room. The decor here is a wonderful mixture of "Neverland" meets "Alice in Wonderland - serious kudos to the owner/decorator. Hopes were high...and then my friends and I were seated at the most uncomfortable table for 3. For the next two hours I would be subject to the servers bumping into the back of my seat, reaching awkwardly across me to retrieve cups/plates, and basically being "in the way" of the other party of strangers awkwardly sharing the couch/tables with us. Definitely ask to be seated at one of the "proper" tables if there's more than 2 of you. We all ordered the high tea with a few substitutions, which our first server happily accommodated. Yay...things were getting back on track! The tea came and it was lovely, then the food came and it was less lovely. We all found the food really hit or miss. I normally love cucumber sandwiches, but could barely eat these as the bread was so soggy. There was also this weird seasonal item which was a sort of spiced cracker with apple sauce on it. However, the croissant sandwiches were really good and I also liked the scones. Now what tipped this into two-star territory was the gradual deterioration of service over the course of our tea service. Afternoon tea is meant to be a leisurely experience, and about an hour into our reservation we started to feel very "rushed" by our servers. I could understand if there were people waiting for tables (there wasn't), or if they had another reservation (a placard on the table clearly indicated the next party wasn't due for another 2+ hours)...as neither was the case the servers constant - every 5 to 10 minute - inquiry if we were done or would like to pack up our remaining food started to get extremely irritating. At one point after telling one of the girls that "we're still working at it" for the 3rd time in 20 minutes...she just stood there for an uncomfortably long time staring at us...when she finally left we all seriously wondered if she was on drugs or incredibly socially awkward. Maybe it was intentional, because we sure as hell couldn't get out of there fast enough after that! Normally, I like to give places at least a second chance. However, in this case I'm debating if I'd rather follow the fate of Capt. Hook than try another round with the staff here. read more

I've loved Neverland Tea Salon since it first opened for its cute wonderland ambience. As it's gotten busier though the service has changed a bit becoming a bit more rushed and a bit less charming. I hate to feel like I'm inconveniencing the busy staff by asking for anything additional like steamed milk on the side because we just felt like they were rushed and were agitated with requests for our milk steamed on the side with our high tea. The food is still cute and charming as it was a couple years ago when they first started. We opted for the grand tea service (there is a demo tea service which is a half order style tier from the grand service). The grand tea service comes with unlimited pots of tea which is great to try new flavours during your service. A tea seating is the standard 90 minutes and there is also a great little feature for little tea go-ers with the child tea tea menu which features more basic fare for the little one's taste palettes from the more complex flavours on the adult tea service. A nice little feature! The ambience is charming and very much so vintage and opulent 'Alice in Wonderland'. A great little place with decor for days. Definitely a must try! read more

Neverland is beautiful, elegant, warm and welcoming. The tea selection is vast, service attentive, and every consideration given to a wonderful customer experience. However, the far-too-casually dressed servers was very off-putting. For so fancy a shop, to be served by jean-clad, teeshirt staff was a disappointment to an otherwise wonderful morning. I would prefer the return to the previous uniform of button-down white shirt with black slacks or skirt. Our family of four made a Saturday visit to Neverland and we were not disappointed. Our 4 and 7 year old enjoyed the 'Tickle trunk"(remember Mr. Dress Up!") as my husband and I were treated to the best High Tea. The sandwiches were amazingingly delicious and the signature chocolate cake was to die for. We even snuck in a glass of champagne while the kids were thrilled to try their first tea in fancy cups. The decor is beautiful and we are looking forward to coming at night sans kids for some tipsy teas. Staff and owners were lovely and it is a fabulous addition to our neighborhood. Three of us went for afternoon tea. Our woman server's English was difficult to understand, she has very heavy accent. We tried to tell her that we wanted to order 2 tea sets, and she told us we couldn't. We thought that it's very strange that we can't share food, cause it's not a buffet restaurant. Then she told us there is a smaller 'Demi' set. So we ordered that one as recommended by her. When the tea-set arrived, we were shocked to see the amount of food on the tier. We commented to our server that that's a lot of foods. She just laughed about our comment. Then we were more shocked when the bill arrived, she charged us for the regular set for 3 people, not the demi set. We asked her if the bill was right, she said yes. We didn't argue with her, and we packed 2 boxes of food home. Food was good and tea was perfect, but the service we got was bad. read more

Unfortunately there is going to have to be a positive and negative to this review. The first half of our experience was great. Ambience was nice, the tea selection was great, food was enjoyable. So far this was becoming one of my favorites rivaling Secret Garden. However we were informed that we had 10 to 15 more minutes left in our seating because each seating was 1.5 hours. This is where this place dropped in the ratings for us because we were seated late which cut into our time. Usually tea is meant to be at a social pace and in the end felt rushed. We also had to wait for our last pot of tea for 20 minutes so we had to finish our dessert without tea. Most places have a 2 hour seating which seems more reasonable. **No high chairs!** First let me say that the owner is lovely, the decor is gorgeous, and the gluten free options are impressive. If you don't have little kids, you can stop reading here. We had a quick treat the first weekend they opened, and my son eagerly anticipated a visit for high tea with Grandma for his 5th birthday a month later. (He's a rooibos fanatic.) If the visit hadn't been so eagerly anticipated, we would have gone somewhere else as soon as they told us they had no high chair or booster for my younger son, a 20 month old. But a promise is a promise, so we tried to stick it out. I ended up spending the whole 45 minutes trying to keep my (normally very well-behaved) toddler from grabbing the bone china, climbing on the table, standing on the velvet-covered chair, or climbing off the chair to make a run for it. This is not a wild child; he's so well-mannered in a high chair that strangers often comment on it. I fully understand that there are some restaurants to which one just doesn't take a young child, and I respect that. But Neverland has a Peter Pan theme, a chest full of kids' costumes, a list of recommended teas for kids, and even a kid's high tea on the menu. I sincerely wish that if they ONLY wanted to attract older children, that they would have given some hint of that on their website or store front, rather than tempting us in for an unpleasant experience. This is honestly the first place I've found in Vancouver that doesn't even have a booster seat. So here is that message to parents of young kids - Neverland is wonderful for anyone old enough to not need a high chair or booster seat. If you have a child younger than that, this isn't a good place for you. Or at least bring your own travel booster and ignore the fact that they didn't really want to accommodate little kids. Sadly, we won't be returning. But I will still be dreaming of their wonderful teas list and gluten free brownies. read more

Booked a reservation with my sister a couple years ago. This was lovely. Don't really recommend walk-in's just cause it's a small location. But the tea was wonderful. I bought some loose leaf to take home. If you get a high tea menu you get endless pots of tea which is great to try new things out. It was an honestly lovely experience. Great overall experience at Neverland Tea...my wife in particular loves this place. Location, food, experience are all "top shelf". The only suggestion I have is for one table to be for "men only" and there would be some manly plates, mugs, posters, etc. so we feel "at home" (just kidding by the way). I went in today for the first time and was really impressed. I love what another reviewer said about it: "it's achingly adorable". So true. I was so impressed with the decor, everything about it from the little honey pot to the tea cups were fun to look at. It was very affordable for high tea, only $15 for the half order. Their little croissant sandwich was to die for!!! But pls change the curry chicken sandwich as I didn't like it. I'd also like to see creamy earl grey tea ;) Otherwise you've got a repeat fan in me, great little tea house and kudos for making a gf option, some of my friends will really appreciate that. I love high tea and my mission is check to check out all the high teas in Vancouver. The decor is very cute and romantic and has those Peter Pan Neverland touches. (Don't worry no sign of the Michael Jackson Neverland lol!). I did find it not as intimate as the other tea houses and not as quiet. The servers were attentive much more attentive than at Butter which has better food but hit or miss service. The food was quite good and the tea selection not too bad. They have a lighted box they bring out to you and you can sniff the teas. There are about 8 sections I think. I do feel Neverland has priced their their high tea about $5 more than competition. Both the deserts and savories were very good. We went right before Christmas so they had holiday themed treats and savories. Loved the veggie stuffing one and also the croissant with brie and of course the lox. I would go back here, but it is not the best high tea in town but having said that is was VERY good. read more

We made reservation and ordered the high tea set. When we were starting to eat our desserts an hour after seating, the server came and asked if we want to pack everything to go. Then, another 20 mins when we were having our last couple pieces of desserts, the server came again and put the bill on our table. By far my favourite high tea service in the city!!! The serving sizes are generous. You leave feeling very full. Unlike most other places I've been to that allow you to have one tea flavour, Neverland allows your to try several!!! You can request a half pot even!!! My sister treated me to the deluxe 38 dollar tea. Luckily, she had a 2 for 1 coupon. I have been many places for tea . This tea was just okay. The sandwiches while yummy were a little dry and skimpy. Never ending tea is awesome..but seriously how much tea can one drink in an hour and a half sounds a better deal than it really is! I was super disappointed with the sweets. Very ordinary and not tasting homemade at all kind of generic. The scones both sweet and savoury were delicious but very small maybe 3x3 kind of a mini scone. The decor is beautiful and the service was excellent. The tea menu extensive..but it didn't make up for poor value. For nearly 40 bucks a person...its really almost embarrassing how little they give you. Maybe they should go check out Secret Garden... a much better representation of fresh sandwiches and homemade sweets and regular sized scones. When you have tea at Neverland you eat dinner! I will try the menu items next time and see how that is. 3 stars for product, 2 stars for value and 5 stars for ambience and service. read more
