I am on the fence between 3 and 4 stars: 1. the service was great. They refill waters before they are half way done, bring food out timely, check on time. All good. 2. food good egg foo young on point, egg rolls really good. Beef and broccoli? Meh. Too many giant chunks of uncooked onions, beef was chewy and so fatty that at times you can't swallow it. Oolong tea? Passable but so comforting. 3. surcharge for gratuity 15% automatic 4. fee for using credit card 5. Cleanliness- the floors and bathroom soooooo dirty. There is a lock on the outside of the women's bathroom. So anyone could slide this and lock you in? What's that? If you can't maintain cleanliness in main areas what does the kitchen look like. Also there were two tables that were piled high like someone was using one as an office space and the other to stock items on. 6. there are so many types of Asian foods it can be confusing. Four stars for Vietnamese food! This place is an enigma. All the signage points to Chinese food. Their main sign out front boasts "Hunan, Szechuan, Peking, Cantonese style." Yet the most authentic stuff on the menu is the Vietnamese section, which is not mentioned in the restaurant. Being a Hong Konger, where we do in fact have all these cuisines back home in authentic form, and I have personally dined in all these styles, this place is not that I assure you. So come here for Vietnamese. Looking around the place, it was clear that the 4 tables of Asians are here for Vietnamese. I would personally stay away from the Chinese offerings judging by the plates that were coming out. They did have a little lunch buffet line out, and a counter full of Chinese dish-ware, accessories, and snacks. Quite strange. The buffet would not be something I'd touch if you paid me... Ok enough of that big confusing bit about cuisine. I ordered Bun Bo Hue, and it was great! Lots of meat options, well stewed to tenderness, good portion size. The broth was lacking in a little salt, but it was full of flavor as expected. Just some sprinkles of salt and a little sugar tuned it right up. The sprouts were starting to brown. Overall it was tasty and filling. Pricing was on point at $8.99. I would definitely come back and try the other Vietnamese dishes, and maybe even the Chow Fun and Cantonese Noodles...maybe. I will not be going back. The fried was was good but the Orange beef was very tough and their prices were ridiculous. On top of the high prices they just seemed to randomly add a few more dollars in on things. When I questioned it she said the new menus are being printed was I refusing to pay the extra couple Dollars? Additionally, they charge for credit cards and automatically add gratuity on parties of 2 or more but still leave a tip spot for you in case you didn't see it was added. We must have gotten a real chef when we ate here-not your usual over-cooked mush veggies! Maybe it was also because we didn't have chow mein. The Szechwan Chicken was seasoned perfectly-the broccoli PERFECTLY steamed to crunchy (not over cooked). The chicken in the dish was moist! The pork dish was also cooked that the green peppers were crunchy and flavorful (not a soggy veggie in either meal). Either there's a new chef or this place has really gone downhill. The chicken fried rice was bland, needed a lot of soy sauce to made edible. The sauce for the sweet and sour chicken was mostly vinegar, leaving a terrible aftertaste. The egg rolls were fine, not particularly tasty but cooked well. The reason i gave 1 star, is because the owner is greedy. They charge 3% for credit card, and they automatically charge 15% gratuity if you come with party of 2 or more. I know with the pandemic they did not make money, but this is not how you make money as well. SMH... read more

Friendly staff, great home-cooked like meals, and excellent prices. They'll remember you if you visit often enough. Suggestion #1: The Pho. Clean broth, great selection of Pho types and they even have fish sauce on the tables. I only eat Pho at places that have fish sauce on the table! Suggestion #2: Wonton Egg Noodle. Add a dollop of soy sauce to the broth (no lime) and some spice, bam. You have yourself a nom nom nom dish. I tend to get this dish to go as they don't have red vinegar or sesame seed oil. That's how I grew up eating this type of dish, but a little soy sauce and spice can still satisfy. read more

I havent gone since 2019. Food is avg. Service is below average. There was an old lady who was not friendly or respectful at all. I was with my partner and was ignored. My partner received drinks and a menu and I was ignored?! Like WHAT? They didnt even look at me or acknowledge me. I just walked out and went to mcdonalds. This was before the pandemic. I saw "Pho" neon signs in the front windows and had to check it out, although I was a little skeptical because the place is called Mandarin. The Pho is excellent! The broth is delicious and the bowl comes with a generous amount of noodles and meat. In comparison with other restaurants in the region I believe this place has the best Pho. Meatballs, thinly sliced beef steak and beef roast, tripe, and the other goodies you would expect in a great Pho were all there and the price $7.99. The externals of this restaurant is a bit unappealing but don't let that keep you from ordering the food. The pho here was AMAZING. The server was friendly and prompt. From the time we ordered our food till the time we got our food was maybe 10 minutes. We also ordered the Barbecued pork which was absolutely delicious. Lemon grass chicken pho! So far this is the only place that I know of in twin cities that serve this type of chicken pho. You get half of a lemon grass chicken along with the pho compared to the usual chicken breast strips, squeeze some lime in the salt and pepper and dip your chicken in it to add another layer of extra flavor. I actually really like this place. It was my first time dining here, and despite it look like a hole in the wall - the food ain't too shabby. If I could recommend some food, definitely, try their Bun Bo Hue. It's bomb. It has the perfect amount of spiciness, and the flavor is really deep (which a lot of places lack). Or the oyster chicken wings which is a definite favorite. Always crispy but smothered in black bean oyster goodness. This place is kind of a hole-in-the-wall place no one knows about. They're always really busy when I come here though. They have $5.99 lunch buffet for a small station but it has everything you would've ordered through the menu anyway. That's probably why it's always packed during lunch. They offer a Vietnamese menu on top of their Chinese menu, which is great. I would recommend you try their pho and oyster sauce chicken wings. Now, I do have to admit, some of their menu items are better than others. There's one person serving everyone the whole time so be nice to her and be patient. I just realized that I'm a regular at this restaurant and have never written a review! This is my go-to place for Pho', and I absolutely LOVE their Chicken Banh Mi. (Seriously, get over here and try it!). Overall, I prefer their Vietnamese to their Chinese menu, even though they primarily bill themselves as a Chinese restaurant. However, I've been to the buffet (Chinese) on Saturday a couple times, always the same dishes and appetizers, very small, but good price for a quick lunch and I do enjoy the food. Lunch time here was great, I was pleased to have a more conservative buffet. They have a lot of mainstays that you would expect. However the real star of our visit was the Phó soup we got. A nice big steaming bowl of broth and noodles with various bits of meat, tendon, even some tripe! In recent years they have added Vietnamese dishes, sandwiches, and soups to their menu while maintaining the taste and quality of their standard Chinese dishes. This Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant is my go to pho place if I'm stuck in the Minneapolis suburbs. I'm from saint paul, which has the best pho in Minnesota but my new home makes that a hike. I love there Vietnamese egg rolls and dumplings. To be honest I haven't really tried anything else. They have a big menu and ive only ordered off the vietnamese side. Those three things are so good that's all hubby and I order. The workers are so sweet and hard working. Since we're regulars, they recognize us and always give us a warm welcome. Best pho place in town! My husband and I come here regularly when we need our pho fix. I love their custom sauces for each of their appetizers. Our favorites are the typical eggrolls, spring rolls, and pan seared dumplings. We were hesitant to try out the Chinese food here but my husband got it a few times and it is also one of the best Chinese food we've had! After looking through their massive menu of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, I ordered the Hunan Chicken dinner combo (without the Sweet & Sour Pork). This dish was huge (Look at the picture)!
