Eating bagels for breakfast is for people who don't know about something better...i.e., Nicks Deli. Nick's keeps it simple--gorgeous, no-nonsense sandwiches and some pretty badass breakfast burritos. Now, I'm a drama queen and I love overdoing everything (especially when it comes to food), so the breakfast burrito is a TAD on the plain and simple side for me, but for a normal person's palate, it's probably perfect. I kinda would want it to also be smothered in green chile stew, but there ain't nothing wrong with the hot egg/cheese/potato/chorizo goodness that the burrito entails. And it's more portable. For, you know, walking your surfboard down to the beach, or feeding the seagulls on the pier, or walking your dog in a 5k or something else equally beachy to be doing on a Saturday morning. I haven't had the pleasure of eating one of their sandwiches yet, but I suspects Nick's is on the East Coast deli side of the fence--i.e., some serious sandwich meats and toppings. We're talking rye, pastrami, cream cheese, pesto, foccacia, olives, oil and vinegar, tuna melt, fatty bacon kinds of yumminess. Nick's doesn't waste time or calories--I'd like to shake their hand and I will be back soon to try one of these monster creations--possibly for breakfast. Be aware that Nick's is a pretty casual place--though there is some simple seating inside, most people are coming to get food to go--you walk up to the counter, pick something off the hanging menu, and then stand in a crowd of the other waiting patrons by the doorway, eagerly awaiting Nick to call your name. Kinda like high school or a real deli. Expect to pay around $7-$8 for a gargantuan sandwich--drinks are from the soda fountain or canned from the refrig...breakfast burritos run in the $5 range. It's noisy, full of people in board shorts with dogs, and little plastic tables with sticky bottles of Tapatio. Ah, a real taste of California and home. Nick's begs you to get some good breakfast in your tummy and go out and enjoy the sunshine and sand. read more

5 stars for the breakfast burritos, 4 stars for everything else they serve. i have strayed from the break burrito only 2 times and regretted it. the breakfast burritos are simply the best anywhere. if you get the vegetarian burrito make sure to have them add avo to it, takes it to a whole other level. the place can get insanely packed on the weekends and it is wise to put their number on speed dial and just order your food on the phone about 20 minutes before you go. it is usually ready for you when you get there. the line can be out the door and down the block at this place. read more

The Nick's Breakfast Burrito is a culinary legend in East Long Beach and Seal Beach. Grown men get weak in the knees at the mere mention of a Nick's Breakfast Burrito and if some younger person asks what is the big deal, the newly self-appointed mentor will drop whatever it is that they are doing and administer this very important rite of passage. If you're under forty and are in Seal Beach just ask some long-in-the-tooth surfer, they are all over the place you can't swing a dead cat over your head without hitting three or four, and ask innocently if a Nick's Breakfast Burrito is really all that good and be prepared to be whisked off to Nick's. If you want to eat the subject burrito at the pier, best place to go, don't take a sample bite beforehand. You'll never make it. read more

Everyone's talking about their breakfast burritos (which I agree, are the best hangover cure around) but their deli isn't all that bad either! They have a good selection of sandwiches, soups, pasta salads etc. I love that you can go in and Nick is actually there working behind the counter with the rest of the crew. I also love that they treat you like they've known you for years even its your first time there. They trust that you'll pay for what you take (ie taking drinks out of the fridge before you pay). Husband took me here as back in his college days (10+ years ago) it was the best place for a breakfast burrito on the planet (in his words). Being super hungover I couldn't have been happier with his choice as a breakfast burrito cures all. Now it was a decent breakfast burrito and did the trick for that day but I would not rate it as the best breakfast burrito ever, nothing beats Baldemiros in Seaside so far. The burrito itself was perfectly wrapped, nothing was coming out of it and it could stand up straight when/if needed to be set down which is a burrito roll job well done and the salsa was also decent but it just had an overwhelming amount of meat and cheese-for me I need some variety. The hashbrowns was a nice touch but not big on chorizo which it was loaded with so maybe that is why it was not the best burrito I've ever had. Anyways this place was packed and has lots of different items so other stuff I am sure is good and worth trying. read more

Love the place been going there since I was in my early childhood 10 11 or 12 best in town!!' But the big guy forgot his name never been personal like nick.. I see nick around and I can sit around my family. But this guy Fnazo I think just the big guy is so rude and allways been for years !!!! He speaks too fast and I remember going there every day he knows my name but still you have to ask for sauce I get it every day you should know. He's just a big rude guy. All the rest are very very nice and the food is really really good. Good thing he's not making burritos he's only on the cash register. Get rid of that dude or put him on wash up crew. It's been to long nick for the guy interacting with customers.AND THEN WAS SOOOO SICK I WILL NEVER EAT THERE Again . I was on the toilet all night and my stomach was messed up for at least three days not fun. And all I got was a veggie burrito. Great breakfast burritos! I am not a fan of chorizo but this place changed my mind. I am not a fan out breakfast burritos either. I am not of a french toast kind of girl, but this place sold me. Saturday and Sunday morning are packed, so expect a bit of a line. Usually seating is packed so if I come with my boyfriend we take a walk closer to the beach and eat on the benches. Good food at a great location. Also for lunch try there italian sausage sandwich with mozzarella and marina sauce on it. Its soooo good but messy to eat to napkin up. I've been coming here since I was 12 or 13 and the same goes for my parents. They always treat you amazing and they're prices are so great for the amount of food you get. One burrito always fills me up, sometimes I can't even finish one and I've been coming here for over 5 years. It does get crowded and the weekends but it's still so worth it! They all know my name and always smile and wave and say hi when they see me. Such a great family atmosphere. Best place in Southern California! read more

Stopped by Nick's today and had some outstanding sandwiches! I had the Turkey Club on toasted Rye. It had a good amount of Turkey, Bacon, and Guacamole with lettuce and tomatoes. My wife had the Rueben, both of our sandwiches were the best we've had in quite some time. Nick's service was great, the place was clean, and the food was ready fast. I highly recommend this place, the only criticism I can offer is it was pretty warm inside? On a side note numerous customers ordered the burritos and I can tell you, I'll be ordering one of those next time they looked killer! read more

soooo good! just had one this morning. the only BAD thing i can say about this place is how trendy it is and how long it takes to actually get your burrito after you order it (10-12 minutes) and how cramped/ small the place is which makes the wait even more excruciating. the burritos are the sh*t though, so it is worth the trip. read more

I ordered the vegetarian breakfast burrito. It was mostly all potato and no egg. The cheese was cold, therefore wasn't melted and made one side of the burrito cold, I'm giving it one star. The "hot" sauce was good but not very spicy. read more

My coworker introduced me to this local eatery this past President's Day and let me tell you, the reviews definitely lived up to my expectations! The only downside was the parking, which is kind of sparse, but I managed to find street parking in a residential area. The place in itself is small and I did find it strange that you order first, then pay when you pick up your food. At least when I went, the place kind of cleared out, which was nice because I hate crowds. My coworker and I got the infamous breakfast burrito and it was really good, especially with the red sauce! I didn't think I'd be able to finish the whole thing because it was pretty big but boy did I end up scarfing it down! Perfect blend of eggs, cheese, chorizo, potatoes and bacon---mmm...mmm! And the portion is big for the price! Next time I go, I'm taking my boyfriend with me because I'm fairly certain he will become a fan like I have. read more
