We came here for dinner. There was a wait time of 35-45 min when we got here at 7:30pm. Our server is very friendly and attentive to us. She kept refilling our water. The lighting was a bit dark, and gives out a romantic vibe. It is good for date. We ordered spinach and artichoke dip, centered cut filet, and the duke. The dip was light in seasoning, and the taste was decent. The centered cut filet has smoky flavor, and the meat was pretty tender. It comes with baked potato. The duke is my favorite! It was well marinated, and it has a sweet flavor. The meat was very tendered, and cook exactly at medium rare! I will come back to try their burgers and sandwiches. read more

The service is amazing and is a big reason why we enjoyed dinner as first timers. Tiffany our server was an absolute sweetheart and she was really attentive. She was truly great. Redemption!! We were invited back by the staff of Nick's on 2nd. They nailed it. I guess it was just a fluke last time. Tonight we were served by Maile who really took care of us. Service was exceptional and the food was delicious as usual. We had couple starters and a fish and steak option. The food was great and we brought home our leftovers. I forgot to take photos of the mains. But we will be coming back to Nick's. My partner has a dairy allergy, that did substantially limit what we could order. If you're lactose free, make sure to check out the menu ahead of time. It's hard to review sometime you have limited options early. They have salads, fries and a veggie burger last time I was there as vegan/vegetarian options. Great options, except the burger patty pulls outside the burger and your legs with bread and condiments. The service is top notch from when I've been here. I do with they had an Italian dish that's vegan (I might have missed it, and that's on me). I love the bartenders Amrita is my all the FAV if you ever have the please. I went to Nick's for my lunch date. I was impressed by the vibe even it was 2 pm, very cozy and nice. We had a burger and small steak with soup and salad. I had the Cioppino which was by far the best I've ever had...so delicious...and the sourdough loaf accompanying it was also incredible. Delicious food and good service. Came at 4pm on a Friday with a reservation. Seated promptly. It wasn't too crowded at first but had filled up by the time we left. Was here a week ago on 5/29/23 to celebrate my wife's birthday with a party of eight. We had a reservation, so we're seated right away. We ordered a variety of appetizers to start, plus a couple of drinks. The shrimp taquitos were very good, and I would definitely order those again. We also ordered the bacon deviled eggs that everyone in the party loved, I'm not a big fan of eggs, so I skipped those. For my entrée I went with the Original Ribeye Melt, and it was great. It came on grilled parmesan sourdough, with swiss cheese, a horseradish sauce, and grilled onions in a red wine reduction. The meat was cooked medium-well and very flavorful, but it was the red wine onions that stole the show. If I could, I would put that on everything. The rest of the party all chose different entrées from each other, and all loved their choices. For dessert, we all split the warm butter cake topped with a fruit compote and a seasonal lemon cake whose flavor was exceeded only by the size of the slice you get. Our server (Ryan?) was excellent. He made sure everyone had what they wanted and needed. In the end, he presented my wife with a nice birthday card from the staff, which she enjoyed receiving. Inside the place is nice and orderly, and the staff did a great job of clearing the plates as we finished certain dishes. From where we sat, we could also see the cooks preparing some dishes before they came out to the dining area. Everyone at Nick's makes this a place worth visiting. read more

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here this past Tuesday. I must say, everything was great! Food was beyond amazing! Service was friendly and food came out at perfect time! I had a Chilean Sea Bass and it just melted in my mouth. The butter on the fish was just right, and the whipped potatoes were delicious. Spinach with slivered almonds were good pairing and complimented the foods. My husband had a center cut steak, which he just savored to the last slice. We also had the spinach dip and tortilla chips for appetizer. I was surprised how light it tasted. The melted cheese was not overwhelming like what you would see in most restaurants. Oh, and do not leave without trying Nick's Mai Tai! My millennial self would say, "It was da bomb!" Lol! Anyway, we ended our dinner with a sundae. It was one of the best dinners I've had in Long Beach, and compared to 555. The only thing was, they didn't have live soft music and the place is bit small and the entry way could get crowded, especially with the bar right in the middle. The food was wonderful EXCEPT for a few things: 1. Their strict limit of 15 minutes for them to hold a reservation. 2. The lack of parking or valet service. 3. The wait to check in which would have caused an issue IF I did not have someone else from my party get to the restaurant in time. 4. And the noise. Let me explain: Noise: I grew up on Long Island and spent a ton of time in NY Metro restaurants. They are known for being loud. I somehow did not expect to have a similar experience in a Wednesday night in late February. We could barely hear each other, let alone the waitress. She had to repeat each special description more than once and trying to hear what we ordered, well that was an experience - thank heavens that we could point out what we wanted. STRICT 15 MINUTES RESERVATION HOLD: I am glad that I made a reservation but a 15 minute grace period is tight. I called the restaurant to explain that our arrival time would be late because the usual 20-30 minute drive from Huntington Beach was now estimated at 45 minutes. I asked IF there was anyway that the table could be held and I was told "No." That is not what I expected for a restaurant that DOES NOT have parking or valet service. Certainly NOT the response I was expecting but I reached out to others in my party to please get there so we would not lose our reservation. WAIT TO CHECK IN: Then when we arrived, I had to find a place to park luckily I found something on the same part of the block on 2nd. But the wait to check in.... IF I did not make the SOS call to others in my party to hold the table, we would have lost that table. My suggestion is to staff the restaurant with enough upfront staff so that the line is not out the door. VALET OR PARKING: If you are going to have a line to check in and a strict policy of holding a reservation - you should have a VALET or parking available for patrons. read more

This restaurant on dog friendly 2nd Street has 2 large covered patios yet does not allow dogs. About 25 minutes before my reservation which was made days before the restaurant left me a voicemail saying they are NOT dog friendly. Ashley who left the message said all dogs need to be tied up to the outside fence and left on the sidewalk. They are the only restaurant along this restaurant row that is not dog friendly. They do not inquire if the dog is a Trained Service Dog (TSD) so they block them from entering which is against the law and a discriminatory act. read more

Hands down, the best two items on the menu are the original ribeye melt and the warm butter cake. I don't know when I will ever get a chance to explore the rest of the menu because when I visit, these are the only two things I ever want. I had never even considered a ribeye melt until I saw it on the menu at Nick's. I couldn't imagine taking a beautiful steak like a ribeye (which is my favorite) and not only turning it into a sandwich (*gasp*) but creating a melt at that (*double gasp*). But when I tell you that this is one of the best sandwiches I have never had, and I mean ever, I don't hesitate for a second in saying so. The ribeye melt is served with thickly sliced piece of ribeye. It is recommend that you order medium. Don't. Medium rare is the only way to go. The sandwish is spread with swiss cheese and onions that have been reduced in red wine. Nick's also makes this delicious mustard bacon sauce that isn't overpowering on the bacon flavor (which I love). Adds the perfect amount of umami. The other part of the winner here is that they grill pieces of sourdough on a bed of Parmesan cheese so that it creates this delicious, cheesy crust locking in all the glorious flavors. *chef's kiss* You can order the melt with a side of french fries (best choice), market vegetables, a bistro salad (just OK) or the warm potato salad (I am not a fan). Once you finish this melt, which is massive (I cannot imagine having this after an appetizer, unless you are splitting the sandwich), the best to follow is the warm butter cake. I am told that this is the OG of butter cakes of this type. And it's the signature dessert here. The cake is served warmed and has this amazing crystallized sugar crust that is quite sweet. The sweetness is cut slightly and balanced with the vanilla ice cream and berry compote served on top. Perfect pair. I will say that one other item is very good: the ribs. Now, don't be surprised when you get a full rack, not a few ribs or a half rack, served. First time ordering the dish, and I had no idea that you are served a full rack. Plenty of food for two meals, or three if you stretch. Nick's is a Southern California chain, and specializes in seafood, but also has other steak and burger offerings. I was pleased to see cioppino and sea bass on the menu. The whipped mash potatoes are a must if you are getting the steak or fried chicken (haven't tried the chicken, however). Coctails and wine menu are standard. I was hoping for a bold zinfandel out of Lodi, but no. There are, however, several Pinots and a couple of sparkling wine offerings. The margarita and martinis are quite nice. The ambiance works well overall. It feels more business on the inside, like a place for associates and less so romance. The patio is lovely for pairs and small groups, and is quite darling after hours. It can get quite loud, though. But it is still well constituted space and comfortable seating with an attentive and helpful team. Parking can be tricky. It's Long Beach after all. You will, however, find paid meter parking abound on the main and side streets. read more

I have been a long time customer of Nicks. My friends and I are there 3-4 times a month. We are always very polite, order, pay and tip well. I met my friend the other day and we had a bottle of wine and a carafe over several hours. The dinner crowd was now coming in and the waitress asked if we could sit outside. We said no problem, at this point our husbands came to join us. I excused myself to use the restroom and when I came back to the table, my girlfriend said the manger decided not to serve us anymore because another customer said I stumbled out of the bathroom into an employee. This was a complete lie! Yes, I was tipsy but not drunk and I never stumbled into anyone. Instead of them asking their employees, they just went off the word of another customer! Today was my birthday and I decided to finally try Nick's. It started when I called to confirm if I needed a reservation. The host (his name started with an R) was very helpful and put me time for 1pm. I showed up a little earlier than planned and he seated me right away. Very attentive and courteous. I did onion rings, ribs that came with fries and a salad (amazing). I had two cocktails (City of Roses). Everyone that I interacted with was amazing - my server, the young lady that brought my onion rings and the manager (?) who brought my drinks. They made my day totally enjoyable. They even gave me a birthday card. Will definitely go back to Nick's and appreciate them helping me celebrate my birthday. read more
