A couple of friends and I came to this place in order to eat some desserts. The complimentary valet service was perfect because there is very little street parking available. The building itself is extremely quaint and the walk to the entrance builds anticipation about the food. We ordered two different desserts out of the four options. Although there were four options, the combinations were a little too out there - reading the descriptions we were more confused than intrigued. We kept an open mind even though we weren't completely sold on what we ordered because we really wanted to like the place. When the desserts came, we fell in love with the plating (this place is all about the aesthetics), but we were shocked at how little we got for the high price. They tried to keep the food fun by adding so many components but the flavors didn't blend well when you ate all the components together. Even tasting each component separately, I didn't like most of what was served. It felt like everything was given more for decoration and photography than for people to actually eat and enjoy. Even with three people eating two desserts, we didn't really care for finishing them because they didn't taste good. All in all, beautiful place with nice servers but they're trying too hard. I would gladly pay $10 for a slice of plain chocolate cake than for a fancy few bites of something I have to convince myself I like. The house pretzel is knotted into a roll and served with a whipped dill and garlic butter along side a smear of pickled mustard seeds. The combination is a fun play on a buttery pretzel with mustard and pickles. The chips and dip are something filled all around. The chips aren't made of potatoes, but instead are onion based house made funyun chips. The dip, then enters the potato. A creamy potato espuma as a dip is a fun play on chips and dip and you're going to love it. The coffee gel on the cheese plate is to die for. The beef tartare is insane. Really, you can't lose. Lead on. The service was great. Bartenders were personable. Owner was tight. Understaffed on the night but still killed it. Had an excellent array of liquors. And the drinks were excellent. Bartender told us they had the best ceviche he'd ever had. We told him we weren't big fans of raw fish but he told us he'd change our minds... end of conversation. A few minutes later he brings us out the weekend special ceviche. Super nice of him. Ate the ceviche. It was good, wouldn't order it (because again we don't like raw fish) but I'm sure people who like ceviche would like this. Here's the missing star. The disappointing part was when we get the bill he added the ceviche on. Again, we never asked for this. Moreover, we specifically told him we don't like ceviche and we think it's overrated and underwhelming. I haven't had the opportunity to try the food at Nightcap yet, but I have had such a wonderful interaction with Christin that I wanted to acknowledge this establishment for truly raising the customer service bar for me. I'm an Austinite through-and through, and I've seen such an enormous decline in attentiveness from the hospitality industry over the years. I grew up in a time where customer service was just part of the vibe of every restaurant, because that's how Austin was. We had that southern charm thing down, y'all! But most of my recent experiences with 'higher-end' restaurants recently have been so poor that I rarely went out. I felt like Austin saw a huge amount of growth in the food industry and the standards just couldn't keep up. BUT, my opinion has been deeply changed. First timer, and it wasn't a half bad experience.Treating a friend to dinner for a recent promotion and she was happy with the choice. Outside patio seating didn't seem cramped and the heaters were well placed, for a 45 degree night. Appetizer's: BBQ shrimp was a great choice, because of the quality size of the shrimp. Entree : Nightcap burger was very cheesy and perfectly cooked wagyu meat and the fresh pickles did complement well, but the bread choice for the burger took away from the experience. The fries, though solid, were a bit flat for me too. I will opt for another entree choice next time. Desert was quite a different spin in the traditional. However, the Horchata tres leche cake didn't quite hit the mark. The pears on the dish were better than the actual desert. The horchata favor didn't seem present and the cream along with the texture of the cake created to much contrast for my taste. Service was dependable, and speedy. Side note, I highly recommend their in house made "fire dipping sauce", as both texture and spice was one of the better hot sauces, that showed its boldness, so I purchased a cup to go, which they accommodated without a fuss. Nightcap knows aesthetics. From the moment you walk through the door, the beautifully curated space feels more like your next-door neighbors trendy bungalow. Inviting is an understatement. Anywhere you post up, whether its outside with the yard games and cabana furniture, or inside among the bright windows and original hardwood floors, you're going to be comfortable and welcomed. As quaint and charming as the house is, it comes at a price that reflects it's hip location on West 6th St. Most of the cocktail and desserts are pretty pricey ($9-$16) and it only goes up from there if you decide to venture to the entree side of the menu. Happy hour is a frugal chasers paradise, where the cost instantly becomes 1/3rd cheaper. A great option if you're all about ambience and daylight, but the menu doesn't include dessert. There's no cheapening the delectable, sugary treats that the trained chefs produce. And delectable they are. We treated (literally) ourselves to the Lemon Donuts with Ricotta. At $16 for 6 donuts holes, they were definitely a splurge, but damn good. A once try, as I'm not sure I could justify the price again. Although spending an evening at Nightcap comes with a hefty cost, it's worth it for it's laid back, yet trendy atmosphere and delicious food. Five stars for the fact there's are two favorite things I like in life (well there are many but for the sake of this review I'll just mention two) - desserts and French press coffee. Ironically I had to throw out my French press coffee because I was lazy trying to clean the darn thing. Me and my wonderful friends Joe C. and Shannon B. went out after my birthday bash to this place. I ordered the Cookie Du Jour which was a snickerdoodle cookie which a tiny cup of sesame milk, Joe C. ordered the Coffee & Donut and Shannon B ordered the olive oil cake. Then of course we ordered the French Press coffee which was huge. The waitress told us to let it steep and she will press the grounds down to the bottom. I think between all three of us, we had two French Press coffee. I guess the waitress was surprised at how much we needed the half and half. Nightcap is a great concept which has a small menu for bites but is predominantly known for desserts and cocktails. It's in a Bungalow house with a small parking lot where you enter from Pressler. It's cool when they hand you a check its in a type of library book with one of those due date cards where you can sign. read more

And basil milk which had the slightest taste of a fresh salad with the basil and olive oil but left your mouth in a sweet state. Wonderful food and good service at Nightcap with some slight mishaps. My group all ordered the watermelon cocktail and it was extremely disappointing. There was too much alcohol in it to the point where me and my friends only took 1-2 sips on it before we just gave up on that drink. I wished the waitress made the effort to notice that the cocktail drink was too unbearable for us and offered to either redo the drink or take the drink off our receipt since we couldn't even drink it. For appetizers, we ordered the Hamachi Crudo and the Pretzel's at the recommendations of our waitress. The hamachi crudo was delicious and super fresh. The pretzel's were average and if I had to be honest, I prefer pretzels from the mall better. For entrees, we ordered the scallops and roasted chicken which were both delicious. The chicken was moist and had super crunchy skin. I loved the grapes and sunflower seeds in the scallops dish which gave a textural contrast. For desserts, we ordered the coconut pudding, flourless chocolate cake and funnel cake with seared foie gras. The funnel cake was great and the chocolate cake was really rich. I absolutely loved the potato chip ice cream with the chocolate cake because it balanced out the sweet and salty tastes. As for the coconut pudding, we were disappointed by this. The watermelon was infused with ginger which was too overwhelming. And for a dish that is named coconut pudding, they were really stingy on the coconut pudding. We only got like a small spoonful of the pudding, but the pudding that we did get to taste was great. Despite the mishaps, I would still recommend Nightcap. The desserts are generally great and unique and the service was good too. At least, we know not to order the cocktails and some dishes again. read more

Overall I am giving this place 4 stars but it was quite close to a 3. When it comes to food, it was all fantastic! The service on the other hand needed some work. I am hoping it is only because they are reletively new and still working out the kinks but it was a little rough. Our group pretty much ordered one of everything on the brunch menu and eveyone one loved their dish. I ordered the Salmon plate which was their take on a common breakfast dish. It came with two good size slices of fresh rye bread topped with house smoked salmon, hardboiled egg, and avocado. The dish was slighty over salted but that can be expected in smoked salmon. I also was able to try the lemon pancakes and they melted in your mouth. I would highly reccommend most of the dishes on the brunch menu. The main issues with the service were missed/forgotten items on the order tickets. My first drink took approximitly 15mins to come to the table. Half way through the meal, another person in our group ordered a drink, and once again it was forgotten twice. Finally, when the food came out, all but one dish arrived. The last dish was about 10 mins past the rest. Our waitress appolligized for all the delays, saying items were missed but after the third time, it was a little upsetting. Overall, the food wins and it was great but the service needs some training/help. read more

Our waitress "her 3rd day" was the ever sweet girl ensuring our order and service were met- at all times, and the other staff were on point too! We had an incredible evening at Nightcap with their all night Tuesday happy hour (half off snacks, $7 signature cocktails, and $6 select wine). The signature cocktails were on point (we tried all but 2 of them) but we'd say our favorites were the Apple Bottom Jeans and The Full Monty. After a few cocktails we fired off, we ordered a couple appetizers including the Hamachi Crudo (our favorite), Yukon Potato 'Risotto' and the Waygu Beef Tartare. All were extremely flavorful and succulent. Next were the entrees: Grilled Hanger Steak and Seared Sea Scallops. Both were melt in your mouth perfection, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the Scallops. We ended the night on a high note with two desserts including a twist on a childhood favorite, Ants On A Log, made with peanut butter panna cotta, celery sorbet, raisin jam and real dehydrated ants and the Strawberry Shortcake made with olive oil cake, black pepper, sour strawberry, and yogurt espuma. Both exquisite but we favorited the ants on a log due to its uniqueness. If you're looking for a casual happy hour or an intimate meal, this place has you covered. I brought a group of 12 for brunch for my birthday this weekend. I made a reservation weeks in advance. However, when I arrived, we had to wait over an hour. This was explained to us because other parties were taking longer than they anticipated. While I understand this problem, it was pretty frustrating for our party to wait over an hour to be seated. I only took one star off though because the wait staff was very pleasant and courteous during the wait. They gave me a complimentary iced coffee and gave the table a few pitchers of free drinks. And the food really was amazing (although VERY SMALL portions). I thought the portions were enough (although definitely cleaned my plate) but the guys at the table (or girls with larger appetites) had to eat a second meal afterwards. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes...omg just amazing! Others at the table seemed to enjoy what they got too. Met a girlfriend here for dinner. Free valet parking is a huge plus in this part of town. We sat outside and it was pleasant. They have heaters that work well. Seems they maybe a tad understaffed but what place isn't in Austin. We started with the crispy Brussels sprouts. My friend got the burger and I got the risotto. The menu is limited which I am ok with for a place like this. However, if you have a limited menu the food should be really good. I thought it was fine but nothing that blew me away. I did like the vibe but wish the food was better. I will come back with my husband and give it another shot as every place deserves two chances. read more

All around valentines day fail. Reservation made a month ago at 7pm, didn't get seated until 8:30pm. In the meantime no indication of how long we might be waiting. Manager came around with a bottle of prosecco to appease everyone waiting but refused to give any estimate. Instead called my partner and I "Kiddos" (that was weird) and told us they were hiring if we were interested. Finally after getting seated it was chaos. Food + drinks getting misdelivered left and right. My partners food came out 30 minutes after mine (we were only 2). My drink coming after we finished eating appetizer and main, and still getting charged for everything. The food was ok at best. $200 meal and the worst dining experience I think I've ever had. All the staff seemed to be running constantly, but management really needs to go back to the drawing board here read more
