I ventured into Nightingale for their weekend brunch and I was pretty impressed! I thoroughly enjoyed their cool blue interior with accents. Our waitress was great considering it was a busy Sunday morning. I appreciated the variety of dishes on the menu and it was so difficult to make a decision. I ended up going with the chilaquiles and I was not disappointed. What made the dish superb was the salsa verde sauce! It was so flavorful and had the right about of kick to it as well! I appreciate a dish that is simple but delicious. The dish was affordable at $10, much less than most brunch places on the weekends. I know that nightingale doesn't need this review, but we had such an amazing time here last night that I had to write about it. We've been dining out lately and have been disappointed at what passes for good food and good service lately. Going into the meal (and with out of town family to treat) our expectations were low due to all these recent experiences. But the vibe, service, cocktails and food were exceptional. This neighborhood spot has been doing the same thing, more or less, for 11 years and their standards and consistency have remained exceedingly high the entire time. We always get the chicken liver mousse and the scallops, because they're amazing. And I got to show my brother the shrimp toast, which reminded us of the old Leann Chin appetizers. The chupacabra was served extra spicy and incredible. And we finished with the pot de creme. We had several other dishes and we 4 adults and a child left the restaurant happy and full. Incredibly, the total bill somehow ended up being just $200 before tip. Happy to say Nightingale is sustaining their high standards into their 2nd decade. Will be back soon! read more

Right from the service , food and ambience...everything hit right on the spot at Nightingale. Our bartender, I think her name was Lakeisha was uber cool and described the entire menu to help us make our selections. We got a couple of small plates and entrées to share. Started with grilled octopus and sausage tapas off the menu, then came the sweet corn fritters & mussels and those awesome fries with aioli sauce also gave us company. Free street parking is available although be forewarned that Lyndale is a busy street. I usually sit on their cute little patio in the front but the inside is quite spacious, open, and well-lit as well. Their menu is very creative and unique- if you can, try out the smoked pork shoulder. I had never had masa cakes before but they really complimented the savoriness of the pork and soaked up all of the meat juices and avocado sauce so well. Plus you can never go wrong with a dish that adds a sunny side egg on top. :) Once again, bottomless mimosas! Our servers were awesome, very attentive, and kept our glasses full. Good, somewhat predictable gastropub food and great that the kitchen stays open till 1am with the full menu available. A lot of dishes can be made gluten free (though sometimes that just means they leave off the bun or bread component with no substitute). When it's busy, it can be hard to get what you need (like the check or another round of drinks) but given the volume of business they do, they keep up fairly well. One of my favorite happy hour and late night spots. The brunch situation leaves more to be desired. The entrees are small...like weirdly small. Twice I have left hungry. And the food is not nearly as good -- seems like the A Team is not in the kitchen during brunch. My group of 4 went for Happy Hour early on a Friday. I was thrilled. The cocktails were stiff and incredibly tasty. The serrano ginger chicken wings were bright with a good amount of heat. The Nightingale kinda snuck up on everybody... in the best way. You would not believe that in its previous life this place used to be a questionable deli where I bought cheese curds and gyros at 2:30 a.m. It is incredible how the space has transformed into one of the coolest little lounges in town. The design is first-rate and really takes advantage of the space with cozy booths, an open kitchen and a surprisingly large bar. I think the big draw for me here is the bar situation. It's something this area needed in the same way it needed Muddy Waters and Common Roots. It's our first genuine cocktail and craft beer bar that's not a dive and not overwhelmed by a bunch of flashy TV screens. They feature a ton of local beers, a nice wine list and a cocktail menu that I assume will rotate periodically. They are open for dinner and Sunday brunch. The steak tartare (GOOD GOD) and the scallops were so delicious they were worth the splurge. The scallops were perfect in every way. And the tartare was... well, just get it. I wasn't quite as impressed with the grilled Caesar or the crab crostini. All in all though, the food is top shelf. Just prepare yourself for top shelf prices too--in the vein of Eat Street Social. Or come for happy hour from 4-6 p.m. Or dessert, because they sounded un-friggin'-believable. Chocolate pot de creme... guh. Now, the service. Brunch! Mimosas! That lighting! Oh my! Nightingale was fantastic, went to celebrate my birthday with a yummy lunch and bottomless mimosas (for $10, I repeat $10 for bottomless mimosas). The food was fantastic, the space was beautiful and our waitress was an angel. I feel like it takes a certain kind of person to be patient and kind and a killer server anywhere that does bottomless mimosas, and she was amazing. I got the biscuits and gravy and when they first came out I was a little nervous it wasn't going to be enough food (I was starved) but it ended up being the perfect amount and incredible! His meal was the CLEAR winner- fecking AMAZING it was. Mine was okay- I had the holly sauce on the side and only put a little on (calories, yo) and it was very dry. When deciding where to go for your birthday in Minneapolis there are soooo many options. This year I wanted to try somewhere new and saw that Nightingale had good reviews and reservations available. So I thought well I might as well give it a try. The atmosphere is nice, I really enjoyed the big leather dark blue tufted couches it adds a cool feel to the place. I had a group of around 7 people which we were able to fit in quite easily. I ordered the fries and the shrimp toast. The fries were delicious and salty. The shrimp toast on the other hand was not my favorite. It was pretty bland and I couldn't taste the shrimp at all. However, people seemed to like their food they ordered and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Prices are decent, not too high and not too low. At the end they gave me a chocolate dessert which was super nice. It was very rich and delicious. Not sure what it was but I enjoyed it. Since it is in Minneapolis you will most likely need to find street parking but since the location isn't in Calhoun Square it's a lot easier to find parking on the street around here. read more

If restaurants were people, then Nightingale was a jolly person that warmly welcomed us to town a smile and a big hug. We biked over to Nightingale for dinner; we had reservations, but at 6p on a Wednesday, it was easy to grab a table. We enjoyed a drink as we settled into our booth with the menus; I started out with a Blue State and finished with a Dark & Stormy; of the two, I preferred the latter slightly. Our server was great, friendly, passionate about the menu and not afraid to provide guidance. We split most of the items we ordered with the exception of the steak tartare that he devoured. We started out with the ricotta bruschetta, which did not disappoint and moved on to the cheese plate. The cheese selection was great and fairly priced, the thin crackers accompanying it let the flavor shine. Jam isn't usually my jam, but their homemade jam was delicious; I don't know what made theirs standout to me, but if all jam was like this, I would be a jamvaneglist. Word. The scallops followed the cheese and caught me a little by surprise. They were cooked perfectly, but I expected the texture of the almond gazpacho to be different. It was thick, hummus-like, which actually worked quite well with the dish. We also enjoyed the market salad with beets; we're beet lovers and this salad with sunchoke croutons did not disappoint. If I lived in the MSP area, Nightingale would be on my shortlist of great neighborhood restaurants. read more

Finally- a nice restaurant/bar on Lyndale that's NOT Sushi ;) A group of 5 of us came here for Happy Hour (well, we missed the 4-6 entirely) and light food. The host was very nice and accomodating considering the restaurant was packed. Was able to score a large round booth. The design is smartly done. Absolutely loved the studded leather booths which were very comfortable, and such great detail in all of the decor. You can seat 5 very comfortably! The bar area was packed, but still a better size then I expected. We were pleasantly surprised that the prices were still very reasonable. Their wine list has a good mix, their Sauvignon Blanc choice was spot on a great choice (forgot to write the name down)! I loved the Hendricks Gin w/lemongrass & berries (Sorry- Their menu isn't listed anywhere so I can't provide the actual names). Their menu is a small-plate concept and it was fantastic! We sampled four different bruschettas. A white bean (LOVED), a steak/mushroom, Pine Nut w/Romano cheese, and a steak tartare. I also ordered a Duck with Beet larger plate. That in itself sold me on the cuisine there. It also was a perfect portion, so good to know I could eat that as dinner and not just another 'small plate'. Best part about this experience; The price! Went to Nightingale per the suggestion of somebody that lives in Minneapolis and was not disappointed! I found easy street parking near by with little effort, which was great. The staff here is very welcoming and didn't mind me sitting at a table even though I was alone. I ordered a glass of quinta de la raza vinho verde since they do not have a house wine and it was nice and light - they also served a few olives alongside it that were killer. I ordered the moules frites for my entree and was very happy about the portion size, not to mention that it was all delicious. The ambiance is laid back and approachable, even for the solo traveler.
