Being right off of the highway, this is exactly what I needed on my long road trip home. Wanting to support local, this is where Yelp brought me! Service was great, with several employees present and willing to help. I ordered an iced Americano with coconut milk (they have soy and almond, too) and it was decent. A bit too watery (or maybe the espresso was just lite) but they were able to put it in my Yeti so I didn't have to waste a cup! If I lived in this part of NC, I could see myself coming here often. It is right off of a busy road, so not super appealing outdoors, but indoors it is a very cute and comforting shop. Seems that many people come here to do work or have little business meetings. If the espresso tasted better, I'd easily give it 5 stars, but it just didn't hit the spot. read more

If you are looking for a local gem this is the place. Traditional Italian coffee fresh made is hands down a treat. The food is just as divine. Our favorites are the pimento cheese and bacon sandwich as well as the Mediterranean grilled chicken sandwich. And let's not forget the sweets. The lemon blueberry pound cake is perfect! Throw in that you can get wine and well I'm in love with this company. The staff are all really really nice, including both owners. Employees obviously love their jobs here, enough that It makes me want to join the crew. With this much going for it, I'd choose this over Starbucks any day. We just moved to the area. A couple of months ago, we were up from Florida shopping for a house. After a long morning of driving around looking at many houses, we took a short break and googled a coffee shop. We chose The Ugly Mug. When we arrived, the parking lot was full. We went inside, and were very pleasantly surprised at the very cool and chill atmosphere and decor. Quite a few people were inside and out just hanging out doing their thing, on phones, iPads, laptops, or laughing with friends. The coffee was good and a chill place to unwind for a while. Since we moved here, we've been very busy with our jobs and getting settled in our new home. We discovered while learning the surrounding areas, we actually live about 10 minutes away. Lucky Us! I've returned once, the other day, for a flavored coffee and a cool place to hang out for a while. It wasn't crowded as before, but the staff was courteous and accommodating. I am dumbfounded and dissappointed. Truly. I dropped by this morning to grab a BLTC to go. The menu has the sandwich at under $6.00. When I paid, the bill was $7.53. I questioned whether there was this much tax or what. I was told the menus were misprinted and that was the price. I politely asked for the price on the menu to be honored and it wasn't. I get making a mistake on the menu...I don't get not pointing this out to everyone who orders this item "when they order" not when they call the price out. This puts the customer in such an awkward position...especially after asking for the price to be honored and it isn't. I left the sandwich there (after paying the wrong price)and will not return. I spoke to Jeremy, who made the same assertion that the "reviewer" below made; that I didn't ask for the price to be honored...I most certainly did and this was the point in the conversation, I decided to not return even after an attempt to resolve this issue.. I am just one customer and that was just $1.50 but the unwillingness to honor your posted prices is galling. Your willingness to insinuate that I was dishonest speaks volumes. In response to the "review" below. I clearly asked twice for the price in the menu to be honored whether you heard it or not. Abby politely stated twice that the menus were misprinted and that was the price. I made it clear that this was bad business and thought the posted price should be honored. The fact that the staff and management KNEW of this error but until this review have not insured a policy to inform customers ordering this item of the error is again galling. I ordered this sandwich over the phone so there was more than ample opportunity to make this error on the menu clear to me...and...to really put the icing on the cake...the menu on the website as of this afternoon has the $5.95 cost for the sandwich. That file was placed on the website in December of 2016. I get not reprinting 2000 menus but I don't get not doing a five minute Photoshop session to correct this error in your online presence. A few stickers with the correct price on the menus and problem solved until the next update. I also tipped three or four dollars as I should have. I tip no matter if the service sucks ( in fairness...I received cordial service) or not...I tip no matter if the printed price is honored or not...plainly put...I do my part. It's a cool coffee shop! Every time I go in there, other customers are welcomed & treated better. I order & it's always wrong or a cluster just to get my food! The worse part is the employee's act like I'm bothering them! They either ignore me, or they respond to me and roll their eyes! I just don't get it! SMH! My name is called for my coffee. I went to the counter. I picked it up no cinnamon muffin! I sat there. I waited. I went to the other counter, thinking, maybe the bag was there it was not! I went back to the other side of the counter. No one asked me what I needed. I said, I'm wondering where the cinnamon muffin is a young lady rolled her eyes at me did not answer. I looked at the young man, then back at the young lady, and then she walked away ! I said to the young man I think the muffin might be over there on the other side maybe still in the microwave or the oven and then I said, why did she walk away? He said, cause there's an oven back there. Issue is the young lady just rolling her eyes and walking away like I'm bothering her. I just don't get it! And the man didn't even move he just stood there! Probably not going back there again I just don't like the feeling that I get from the lack of service towards me, as I see the service improved indifferent towards others! I have watched them go out of your way for other customers, but not for me, I just for the life of me cannot figure it out! I have not ever been rude or complicated in ordering! Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but I was very disappointed in my inaugural trip. My wife bought one of their travel mugs for me as a gift. We were traveling out of town to see some family so I decided to stop in for an early lunch and a coffee on the way out of town. The coffee wasn't too bad. It was brewed at a nice hot temperature the way I like it. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. I ordered a portobello sandwich to go since it was listed as the daily special. I'm not sure if the young lady at the counter misheard or she just hit the first thing she saw that started with a P. I was handed a pimento cheese and bacon sandwich. I sent it back to have them make what I ordered. I was waiting on the far end of the counter away from the kitchen. I watched the guy make my sandwich with his bare hands. Usually I'm a no glove no food kind of guy, but I decided to let it slide this once. I probably should have just taken the first sandwich offered because the portobello was just about raw. It was inedible. I'll find a way to scrape their logo off the cup so I can continue to use it, but I won't make a trip back. read more

Gassed up, we saw how close it was (alas, didn't get the hours off the google map page, but hopefully that'll change soon -- we should have checked on yelp first!) and made the detour... ... OMG! I was not expecting to be finding such a gem when I walked through the doors of this place. The atmosphere, decor, and staff are all lovely and quirky, just the way I like it. I got the frozen Americano and it was so. freaking. good. The coffee they use has a robust flavor, which is strong, but not in a bad way. It's roasted just right. And you can get your local brews here too. But let's not forget the hidden gem here.... Food. Coffee shops generally just serve stuff you see in a cooler or microwaved stuff you can do better picking up at Food Lion. Nope, not here - waffles, "mugwiches", and flatbread pizza. My lovely wife and I like the Steampunk aesthetic, so we went once for the décor. We keep going back for the food. Try the Chicken and Waffles - it is really something special!
