Let me start by saying this is hands down my favorite noodle place, they have very delicious broth and just the right amount of everything else! My favorite one is their fried beef with wild chili. I just love it! I have also had their pancake many times, it is good.I have had one experience where the broth tasted watered down but that's just on one occasion.. I'm pretty fair so I can't ding them for that time if all my other visits were flawless. I like this place because the food is very good and they have lots good side dishes to choose. My friends and I ordered one beef stew noodle soup and two hunan style pickles and beef stir-fry with noodle. These taste exactly the same as the noodle soups I taste in mainland China (so it is very typical and I strongly recommend to try this if u wanna try some real Chinese food ) and for the side dishes, I personally like spicy duck neck and spicy pig ears. All the noodles and side dishes I mentioned above taste really good from my gustation yet I believe u guys will like it too, so i strongly recommend you guys to try those, and u won't regret, trust me!!! Stopped by today for the first time for lunch at around 12:30. The place was full but the waiter found me a counter seat almost right away and took me there with the menu, brought me a glass of water and the complimentary condiments right away. I've found what I want to try on the menu, and looked at a waitress at the counter, who smiled and came right over to me to take the order. I like the quick service here. When I ordered a rice noodle soup dish, this friendly waitress told me there are two kinds of rice noodles they offer, and suggested that I try the round rice noodle. So I did. I did not have to wait long before a steamy bowlful of Shredded Pork and Pickled Turnip (搾菜) rice noodle soup was sitting in front of me. It tasted slightly saltier and somewhat different (more anise in the soup?) from the ones that I've been eating at other Chinese restaurants, but very good with the round rice noodle. Next time, I'll ask them to put the cilantro on the side. Overall, I'm very happy that I found this place where I can have a good bowl of rice noodle soup for lunch/dinner. Try to avoid this restaurant if you don't want to ruin your day. I gave them 1 star because there's no zero or "-5" option. Their food is average, but the service is the worst ever, especially the cashier called Daniel. I have seen more than once he shout at the customer, telling them "if you don't like us, please don't come back! We have enough customer, we don't care!" Same here, 1 star because there is no 0 star. This restaurant is so irresponsible and careless when preparing their to-go orders. They literally made the same mistake twice. I ordered beef stir green pepper with rice, they gave me vermicelli, I ordered the next time pork rib with rice and added special instructions to emphasize on the rice issue, and they gave me vermicelli again. I've been here several times and I really enjoy noodles here. My personal favorite is A10, pork and green pepper stir-fry with noodle. The ingredients they use are fresh, even though it's fried noodle, I'm still able to taste the freshness out of it. Not to mention their staffs are really friendly. When I first came here I didn't know what to order cause all the food seem really good. I turned to staffs and they gave me good recommendations about their top choices. The food at Noodle Talk is fine but they have horrible service. The first time my wife and I went we sat down and tried to order but they were out of noodles. To remind you, the name of the restaurant is Noodle Talk. The second time we tried again and we enjoyed two bowls of noodles when we were unapologetically told their credit card machine was broken and had to go get cash. I left my wife sitting at the table while I went to the ATM across El Camino. When I returned my wife and I overheard the waiter telling two other women to go get cash and when they refused he pointed and us and said "why can't you be more like them." As a person who grew up in Hunan, the food here is not bad. It reminds me of my hometown. But the price is way too expensive. The thing that shocks me the most is they will charge 18% for tips automatically to a party of 6. I mean 15% tips is reasonable, but 18% crosses the line. No need to mention there is barely any service. Once I saw a male server yelled to a female customer saying "don't ever come back." So me and my friend went here and ordered beef combination Noodles (not sure if that was the right name) and the pork stew. the food arrive really fast, the Pork Stew was good until we ate the last meat, it tasted like it was an old meat, and its rubbery plus theres some kind of smell. and the beef combination noodle was a big disappointment, it taste bland, like the soup was just some chili oil and no beef taste at all. overall the price was way too expensive for the food that you get. read more

Once we got our plates the noodles were so flavorless we kept trying to mix it and it was so flavorless. On top of that the when the server brought out my friends dish his thumb was in her soup. Tried this place for lunch today. Ordered the "A2" Spicy Beef Shank noodle soup, regular size. I was thinking beef shank would be like chunks of slow roasted beef shank but it was thin slices of spice covered beef that had a chewy texture. I did like the beef slices, they were very flavorful and went well in the soup. The noodles that come in the bowl if you don't specify look like large spaghetti noodles. The texture of the noodles tasted like they cooked them ahead of time then just threw them in the soup per order, not QQ. The broth was alright, pretty salty and a pronounced star anise flavor, but my taiwanese friend liked it and stated its a solid lunch spot for beef noodle soup. Ooo the spicyness was on point, had the perfect amount of heat. If there was a homemade knife cut noodle option I'd give them another star, but since there isn't I would try larger flat noodles upon a second visit. For appetizer we had the seaweed salad, tasted pretty standard, good and garlicy. Probably come here and make your own decision, if there is one thing that all of my Taiwanese friends can disagree on its where to get the best bowl of beef noodle soup in the bay area. read more

The food was average, not even close to what they advertise for, the "authentic HuNan flavor". The price was high for the average quality food. Its the old Yuma Ye so small and tight. Service spotty. Menu un clear. Servers not in the game. Mine spicy beef. Hers beef soup. Mine bland not spicy enough i want to sweat. So not to good but does have potential. Hers same bland beef chewy. The noodles were good. Also kinda of pricey for just OK soup of this type. Didnt use the ficilitiea. I've come back a couple times (one time someone had to drag me) trying to figure out the 4-star rating and honestly, I'm not sure what I need to try that will wow me. The first time here, I had a terrible, TERRIBLE experience and vowed never to come back but begrudgingly gave them a second chance because of my very close mainland friends insisted that they must try it. The second time was better and after one more go with a different group of people, I can say with confidence that Noodle Talk is just a 3. They do give you free peanuts and kimchi at your table. So, I was originally super excited because I love round noodles in my noodle soups and really wanted to try this place! My experience though was horrible. Along with ordering an A1 (beef stew noodle soup), I had ordered green onion pancakes. So let me tell you, I LOVE green onion pancakes, like crave and love them along with most things that are fried. But when this came out, it was cold. It was cut into fourths and after taking one bite, I spit it back out. It tasted like dough that had been soaked in warm oil that was then left to solidify and cool at room temperature, then repeated but at lower and lower temperatures. I flagged someone down to tell them it was cold and the waiter touched it with his thumb, apologized and said they would heat it up. They did so by microwaving it and bringing it back to the table, still partially eaten. Okay, cool, he had brought back food that he had physically put his hand on (super unsanitary) BUT worse, it was still soggy and barely warm and I mean BARELY warm like the plate it was on was warmer. So at least I know they didn't re-dip my chewed off piece into the group frier or anything and probably just microwaved it for 8 seconds like you do with Krispy Kreme donuts. But I flagged them back down because this still wasn't fresh or even hot and just tasted like soggy oil. The waiter came back, touched it again, seemed mildly surprised it was still not hot and when he pulled away his now greasy finger, said they would make a brand new one. They quickly brought out a new plate for us. But this new green onion pancake although warm and almost hot, was not crispy and one of the pieces was discolored so I'm 99% sure they gave me back the other 3 oil-sogged pieces and just cut another quarter to stack on top and serve. I'm also pretty sure none of the pieces fit together so meh. But the pancake still tasted like old oily soaked dough except now it was hot oily soaked dough. It went completely uneaten as I was past complaining a fourth time and also because I was secretly worried that the waiter was mad at us and would spit in our food or something. I was also beyond trying to enjoy the noodle soup so I left there not only angry but totally dissatisfied. I'm probably not going back unless I'm really craving round noodles and don't want Bun Bo Hue. I'm a noodle soup addict and I can really have noodle soup for every meal of everyday, but their noodle soup is pretty average. The A1 Beef Stew Noodle Soup is actually not that spicy, pretty mild and while the noodles and the broth are fine, the beef is pretty tough and chewy. The A2 isn't much better. I was really hoping Beef Stew would mean softer beef but every time it's chewy so I just eat the noodles. I do have to say though that the broth tastes pretty good to me. Not too strong or rich, more of a subtle, mild flavor that you would expect from just broth. The noodles are good although sometimes bordering on too soft (but that's just because I have a personal preference for thick/chewy noodles)! Maybe because I tend to not like the beef and don't finish it but one bowl doesn't leave me full. If they could make the beef tender and always cook the noodles right, I think I could really like it though! :) read more

Noodle Talk is a strange place. They seem to care on the surface. The decor is nice and they put free peanuts and kimchi in your table. However, the kitchen seems to be a whole different story. I ordered a beef soup, cold tendon appetizer and an egg appetizer. For 13$ the soup was extremely uneventful. It had less than 50 grams of highly overcooked beef. The soup was flat flavored and the noodles where the worst mass produced noodles you can get. I guess, if the name of your restaurant had the word "noodle" in it, at least put some decent noodles in your dishes right? The appetizer had the word "eggs" in it. Notice the s added to indicate plural. However, there was only one egg in the egg appetizer. The tendon dish however, was probably the only thing that saved this restaurant from a single star. My opinion to the owners of this restaurant, if they want to succeed in this competitive environment, take care of your cook and your kitchen. read more

I actually been here twice because of the nice rating; and I wanted to make sure I didn't order the wrong dishes to cause a bias opinion of mine of this restaurant. Let me start by mentioning the good things about this place. The atmosphere is casual and cozy. The first time I was here it feels like a casual karaoke bar, music is enjoyable for the most of the time. The service is not bad; even thought it appears to me they were understaff, the waitress was patient and polite. Obviously the reason I give low rating to a restaurant is the food. How can a place provide food service has high rating if the food they provided are actually bad? Yup! If you ask me to use one word to describe the food here, I would say: Horrible! I understand I might not be accustom to the food from mainland China, but I enjoy countless Chinese food restaurant around the Bay Area. Starting from their appetizer, I had their spicy pork feet, it tasted so bad and it chewed like expired hardened gummy bears!! It feels like the feet was microwaved for too long! (Even though, I found it eatable, but please treat this as a genuine warning for customers who have bad teeth :P). The beef noodle soup was borderline acceptable; the noodles are way too soft, and not a lot of meat & vege. The flavor is too strong to cover up the mediocre ingredients; however, I guess some customers from China might find it authentic.... The 2nd time I tried their rice plate, the marinated spicy meat was beef jerky hard and way too spicy; it was way too much seasoning on the meat and too greasy. AWFUL, awful service. I don't think I've been to a Chinese restaurant with worse service before. After a half an hour wait, we sat down, and the waiter told us that nothing except the noodle soups (11 options) and rice platters were available. Okay, so we ordered three A1 noodle soups and one rice platter. About 10 minutes later, our table got one A1 noodle, and the waiter told us that there weren't any left and asked the rest of us to switch to one out of TWO options; A2 or A5. (The waiter REALLY wanted us to order A5 (beef tendons)). Huh, didn't know that the other 9 options could sell out in 10 minutes. In the end, we switched to one A2 and one A5. 30 seconds after our waiter left to put in our order, a different waiter came out with ANOTHER A1 noodle for our table. We were confused, but quickly asked our waiter to cancel the A5 order, since another A1 noodle arrived. The waiter, however, was not apologetic at all for messing up, and instead said he could not cancel A5 since it was "cooking" already. Well, excuse us - not OUR fault that you messed up. At this point, I seriously think the waiter just wants to get rid of leftover beef tendons, which was why he kept asking us to order it at the beginning. So the waiter came out with the last A5 and the rice platter. And alas, the rice platter was COLD. We had to ask someone to heat it up. It got taken back to the kitchen and - you guessed it - forgotten! After waiting a long time, we had to stop and ask a waitress to bring the rice platter back from the kitchen. Lastly, it was time for the check. A waiter (not our table's) with glasses came by to give us our bill. We asked for separate checks and as the waiter with glasses walked away to set up separate bills, our table's waiter stopped him and said to us, "One card only." I was really shocked, because I remember we were able to get separate checks before. But no matter how I tried to explain, the waiter just said "No, one card only." I am so disappointed with this restaurant's service. Our table's waiter obviously either hates his job or needs basic training with customer service.
