Not bad but waaaaaaay over priced for what it is. I'd say realistically you should pay 2-3 dollars less per item. And why the hell does it close so early?? 9pm?? Really?? So the noodles start at $12 (for just the noodles and the sauce without meat) and then they charge you an additional $5 for the meat you choose. You can then choose to add veggies and an egg (all extra and chargeable) bringing you to $23ish for a bowl of standard noodles- wouldn't be a problem if it was a good bowl of noodles but- NOT. The noodles i chose (garlic and blackbean) was supposed to come stirfried- instead it came soaked this disgusting pale soupy liquid that tasted like toe jam. The beef was horribly overcooked, rubbery and bland. The egg did not have a runny yoke but was this weird half cooked texture and solid in the middle. The best flavour came from the srirarcha sauce I added at home in a futile attempt to save my dinner. So these guys basically charge 120% of what a standard mom and pop owned Asian restaurant charges for the EXACT SAME THING but with 1/10th of the flavour, quality and freshness. I've been going to Noodlebox since it was a road side cart in Chinatown in Victoria (before it had the storefront). I've never actually had a bad experience in what is probably, by now, over 15 years of Noodlebox experience. Until last night. It's always a go to when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to cook, but want something tasty, delicious, and relatively healthy. The past time I went to Noodlebox (on Main Street), I was not as impressed as I usually am. The boxes weren't full and there were next to no veggies in it - but it was still tasty. But after my experience yesterday at Noodlebox in Kits I will not be going back. The service was horrible. We called in and they told us 20 min. We got there, payed, etc. and had to wait about 40 min from when we ordered the food for it to come out (they obviously waited for us to pay to start making it). In addition, out food came out, they didn't call our name and had to actually go up ask if any of the many boxes there were for us. This isn't even the worst part. After getting home and opening up our two dishes, we found them both to be incredibly bland with little to no flavour. We actually added salt at home on the hopes it would help. One dish we ordered with prawns and it literally had 3 prawns in it!!! And one of the dishes wasn't even slightly saucy - it was basically just cooked noodles! I mean zero sauce!! On top of which there was barely any veggies in either dish! Complete disappointment of what used to be one of my favourite go to take out places. Doesn't seem it's worth the money anymore. I also appreciated Taylor (?) who was working there - She was awesome and very welcoming. Had the Singapore noodle box with chicken delivered. Arrived quickly and hot. The noodles themselves are very good, as were the ingredients. Fresh and nicely prepared. However, this is not Singapore style noodles. More like Pad Thai with a sprinkle of curry powder. Still tasty, but not the dish I ordered. Would have still given a 4/5 if it hadn't been for the disappointing dry tasteless chicken pieces that were thoughtlessly added as if there weren't even part of the dish. read more

My first experience from this location and sadly is was not on par with my experience on Main St. Neither was fantastic, but husband and I ordered the peanut spicy with prawn, stir fry chow mien with prawn and Cantonese spring roll. The rolls were ok, but both other dishes were soggy and simply lacked flavour. Beware the spice - if you think your tough, this'll test u. I ordered medium and it burned my face. Husband ordered Ned-hot and I couldn't feel my face...I liked it, but sadly the dishes just didn't cut it. Service was on time - I ordered for pick up and was told 20mins - it was ready exactly at 20mins. Wish I could say more nice things, the place has the right idea, good staff, fresh ingredients...just lacked flavour EDIT : Added a star. To be concise Noodlebox (at least this location) is a valueless, Chain-restaurant experience and embarrassment to Thai, Chinese and Indian cuisine. Attended this location last night and had the "Ginger beef box" which was very bland. Further to my disappointment this meal lacked protein,, there were maybe 4 or 5 pieces of beef in my serving. This same visit I sampled a Tofu, Spicy peanut box that was not any more flavourful than the previous entrée and lacked a meaningful impact on my taste buds. I am not being a snob with this review, honestly speaking however a good number of neighborhood Chinese or Thai restaurants would provide a much more savoury experience in my humble opinion. This basic, dull experience of these two menu items does not justify the price of $13 a box in my opinion, when there are authentic Asian cuisines available at competitive prices. This might not be NoodleBox's fault, as much as it is a Westernized-trend (especially in Vancouver) to try and adopt menu's from Pan-Asian countries and fail miserably. Gimmicky establishments like this deserve sub-standard reviews in a city filled with so much multiculturalism and quality, ethnic food. Don't waste your money here. read more

I'm really disappointed. I was hoping this would be good. I got the crispy Shanghai chicken box with mild spiciness and it was pretty bad. The only positives are that the takeout bag is biodegradable and the takeout container is cute. What's bad about this is that 80% is rice. The chicken wasn't crispy at all and the bowl was just so spicy that I couldn't enjoy it. The flavours aren't very good, it's just spice. I resorted to eating the bits of untouched white rice in the box instead of the actual dish. There also wasn't much chicken, there were maybe 6 pieces of half an inch sized cubes. This one dish was about $19 and really not worth it. Maybe the other dishes are better and this was a fluke. read more

Sweat dripping from my pores, the flush of red that fills my cheeks, the extra seven levels of spice that translates into an entirely new flavour, the satisfaction of knowing I made it through the entire dish without flinching - I adore spicy food. Fast, consistently delicious, and respectful of my sometimes annoying gluten allergy, The Noodle Box may be a chain (shhh!), and is certainly not authentically any kind of Asian, but maaan do they do good spicy food. Try as I might to be a hater on the place, I find it almost impossible to say no to their Cambodian Jungle Curry. Though I can't really be sure what makes this dish "Cambodian" or "Jungle", the flavours of their ginger broth mixed with mango, mushrooms, sprouts and cilantro (medium spicy, avec tofu, thank you very much) fraternize in the bowl to make for one seriously addicting dish. Word to the wise: hot actually means hot here. As in, we're in northern Thailand kinda hot. Unless you're immune to the gut-wrenching pain and mouth-numbing sensations of spice, stick with mild. I feel like I'm going to get the hate on from yelpers for giving this 2 stars but to my defense I have now been here 3 times. Yes, I have also given it the requisite handicaps of being a chain and fast food joint and will review accordingly. How excited am I to have Asian fast food, I'm Asian, this should be like blood to a vampire, my favourite meals are Asian street food. Bursting with flavour, tangy, sweet, quick, fresh, heaven in your mouth. This is more of a lukewarm heaven, or that space between heaven and Hades, which is Noodle Box. Its not Asian, its "western Asian", all the true spices are muted down and the dishes engineered to come out assembly line predictable. Best example is like buying one of those Asian frozen dinners at Save On, they're good for a frozen dinner but you wouldn't invite anyone over for some. The chicken satay is bland and the peanut sauce is a bastardized version of peanut sauce. The roti canai is pita bread, not the light flaky roti, and the curry sauce is a blend of red curry and nothingness. The gyoza looked limp. I don't recommend any of the appetizers. The meals. I think the best meal is the Nasi Goreng. It's fried rice, hard to go wrong with fried rice, or fried noodles. Which I am then saying, their noodles are OK too. Get one of the two, stay away from the curries. You'll get a hearty helping of noodles and rice, and generous with the protein. Flavours are decent, their spice chart is the best aspect, you actually can get spicy! I have tried everything down to their spiciest and for me I sit in the "hot" category which is pretty spicy for the average bear, so stay away. All the Thai curries, I being from Thailand, are a bland version of Thai (ie they used the Thai curry paste and coconut milk but that's where the association with Thailand ends) mixed in with a bunch of things you would never find in a Thai curry. It comes like a big bowl of soup with rice noodles, hello? I can assure you no such dish exists. I dig the space, high ceilings, modern, bright and enough space not to be crowded and super casual. I love the concept of the fast food Asian, so want it to work, but its just not quite there yet. Truth is I should just open my own. Problem is, people are so used to "western" Asian they'll think real Asian is "fake" Asian. What a mind twist. So, end result, its MacDonald's of Asian food, you go here, you know what you're going to get, its not really a burger but its good enough to fix the itch. Though at $13 a plate, its not cheap, you could get better Asian at a slew of restaurants for the same price, though not as quick and casual. Perfect for a lunch break meal or a place to get a casual bite with a close friend that won't judge you for your food tastes. read more

The Taco Bell of Asian cuisine. Even the spicy is flavorless - and by that I mean, it was plenty hot but had no actual flavors. I think I had the plum sauce noodles which were garnished with something that appeared to be basil, but tasted like paper. And each element of the dish - noodles, tofu, veg - was days from fresh. Noodle box was a very disappointing experience for me. While the food presentation was pretty, the dish I ordered was so blah, I don't even remember what I had. I can tell the noodle itself came out of a box, not freshly made (how fitting...). The sauce again forgetful. Oh yeah, just in case, you haven't noticed from the other reviews. The menu was so overpriced that only non experienced noodle eater can accept it as fair. I did like the decor of the place. Very fresh and modern. Ok in the spirit of full disclosure, a good friend of mine is one of the owners of this place, but that totally doesn't matter 'cause the food rules. Seriously. The concept is simple and is inspired by those side of the road noodle carts that Bourdain visits every time he's in Asia. In fact, the first NB was a cart in Victoria, but that didn't last long because the food is so awesome that they couldn't keep up with all of the customers. It's fast, it's fresh, and it's cheap - for $11 or $12 you can grab a bowl full of food and have enough left over for at least one more meal. You have your choice of meat, shrimp or tofu, and they will happily make it vegan for you (without the fish sauce) if you ask. A word of caution, though - when they say hot they mean it. They have a little chart describing the levels of heat in their food. Don't pretend to be all tough and crap and ask for extra hot. I have been there quite a few times by now. The first time I was impressed with their menu selection and the wok cooked noodles! I love things cooked in the wok it really gives that special taste. The second time I was happy too. But after that every time I went I was not as impressed anymore. I have to say, depending on who is cooking, dishes are very inconsistent! There was even a time I had to ask them to re fry my noodle with more "salt" as it had no saltiness whatsoever. Another time the sauce was not evenly distributed and some part really salty soggy and the other part no sauce. If they can make it a little more consistent I will give 4 stars for the taste itself. Noodle Box never disappoints. For the nights without any dinner ideas, this is the place we go to year round. It's always packed around dinner time. There are tables for sit it casual dining, but we usually do take out. They put them in these cute Chinese take out boxes, which are also microwaveable. If ordering take out, always call in advance. This will allow you to walk in, pick up, and go. It could be a long wait (usually at least 20 minutes -half an hour.) There's different levels of spiciness to your liking. I usually get the mildest ones, because I'm just not spicy savvy. Everything on the menu is Asian inspired, from Thailand, Malaysia, China, and Japan. Not the most authentic dishes, but they're always good. Lots of different drinks to choose from, pop, juice, beer, wine. They also have daily specials (I've had a Kobe beef stir fry once), and many options for 'add-ons'-such as scallops, allows each visit to be different. Good stuff: Vietnamese Spring Rolls with nouc cham sauce- one order comes with 4 pieces, a little over priced, but the filling is quite tasty. Most of their main dishes are all 'stir-fry' style, all cooked in a large wok. You have the choice of chicken, pork, or tofu, prawns, or a combination of two things. Certain dishes come with ribbon noodles, others come with rice noodles,most available with rice (or even brown rice, for those even more health conscious.) Favs: Singapore Cashew Curry-mild curry spices, with toasted cashews, coconut milk,peppers, asian greens, herbs, and ribbon noodles. Lots of ground cashews with tasty noodles, topped with bean sprouts, cilantro. For my curry fix! Cambodian Jungle Curry-spicy curry broth with rice noodles, simmered with ginger,mushrooms, peppers, asian greens, sprouts and finished with mango, herbs and lime. This is a little more spicy than the Singapore curry, but more flavour. Spicy Peanut Box-Indonesian style peanut sauce, wok fried with peppers, asian greens, crushed peanuts, herbs, sprouts, coconut milk and lime on ribbon noodles.This satisfies my peanut fix. Noodles, drenched with peanut sauce- too good to be true. Try anything else on the menu-Malay style fried rice, Thai style chow mein, you really can't go wrong here. For eat ins, there are also many different Asian sauces to add to your dish. I can usually only finish half of the dish, and then save the other half for lunch the next day, still as good! Cambodian Jungle Curry, Teriyaki Bowl...), the level of spiciness (even their mild is cray-cray hot!), pick your meat (tofu, chicken, etc), pay, perhaps grab a Tiger beer, and before you know it, you're faced with consuming the delicious creation...Good luck! I think I've finished everything in the bowl only once, and believe me, I can eat. My fave is the tofu Teriyaki bowl, but basically everything I've tried has been amazing. The people who work here are chill and friendly despite the fast paced kitchen. Never fails to live up to my expectations. Fab place to eat and hang out, or to take-away from. I had lunch there yesterday with a friend - we grabbed a couple of boxes of noodles, and some spring rolls and satay to split. You can pick how spicy you like (and when they say "hot", you better believe it's hot). and they offer both take out and dine in. I highly suggest dining in, since it always seems like you get WAY more food. The atmosphere inside is really cool as well. They've got a big speaker blasting out decent music, and they have a small selection of beer for you to choose from. After several months of craving Thai food (since I'm from Thailand) upon my arrival in Vancouver, a friend recommended Noodle Box. The atmosphere is very fun and laid back. People are friendly too. Definitely a place to go after work and not be stressed out about waiters/waitresses' service, being seated, etc. Since I am very loyal to my hometown food, I always order the Thai Green Curry and never seem to want to branch out (because it is that good). As it is fusion food, I didn't expect the dish to be completely Thai but the taste did hit the spot and send me home for those few minutes. I've been ordering from this location for a long time and in the last couple of weeks I noticed most of the staff are new. We ordered last night and the food was absolute garbage! Our 2 orders of Thai style noodle were in no way edible, unseasoned (no salt and tons of pepper), no ginger, no garlic and lots of old vegetables. I don't even think they peel the carrots anymore or wash the vegetables as the meal had a sort of dirty taste. The chicken was overcooked and so was the rice.This location used to be a pretty good place to get a stir fry but new management and staff at this Kits location have the lowest customer service and cooking skills that I've ever seen and I used to be a cook back in my Ottawa days. I spoke with the manager and chef and they defended the food like I was an idiot or something. They told me the menu changed a few weeks and they haven't updated it yet (BS). I bet Gordon Ramsey would find lots of problems with the food prep, freshness and general food safe being very poor at this location. Don't waste your money and call somewhere else. If you're like me and afraid of stepping foot in any sort of ethnic restaurant, but have always wanted to have a big bowl of noodles that didn't come out of package with a foil sachet of flavouring then you'll love it here. The food is ok, I guess, but it's acurately described in the name - so bonus points for that. The best time: sit at the bar, and watch first timers try to order something hot: there's like 2 levels of edible, and 14 levels of stupid hot/showing off/it's this hot because we're authentic on their chart. When they order hot, they will quickly be corrected by the till person that they don't want that. They'll probably back down. I'm always curious whether the hotter steps actually exist. read more

I am leaving this review mainly as a public service to others: do not, ever, no matter what you do, order the food "as spicy as they can make it," even if, like me, you're the sort of dumb jerkoff who does this at every other restaurant. At The Noodle Box, "as spicy as they can make it" results in your being served a dish that is approximately 1/3 hot peppers, and frantically pouring water down your throat to compensate for the enormous physical pain that ensues while trying to enjoy your actually pretty good food. The upshot of this is that, because I was in such terrible pain after five minutes of trying to eat this dish, it took me three consecutive evenings to finish a single order, averaging out to around four dollars per meal. Now I have to qualify this review because I'm kind of self conscious giving a 2-star to such a well reviewed place. Having said that, I've been 3 or 4 times now (trying it about as often as I try brussel sprouts just to see if I've acquired the taste), and I just don't get it, man. The food is generally overseasoned (especially with salt), the staff are curt (which makes sense as they are perpetually steamrolled with a hundred person lineup at all hours of the day as far as I can tell) and the prices are nothing to write home about considering these are just noodles. It may be that things used to be better as I keep getting hearty recommendations to go here from people I know but.. maybe they haven't been in a while? Maybe the 5th time will be the charm. read more

I love this place! It was fun to watch, I liked that it wasn't too formal. The portions are so huge, two people can share one noodle or rice dish easily and be full. Share an appy of roti as well and you'll be stuffed! I took my order to go but it fared pretty well on my journey home. I shared a Spicy Peanut Chicken noodle and a Prawn Jungle Curry on rice both at medium spiciness. The Spicy Peanut noodle was great but my dinner companion found it to be too spicy, so maybe a mild medium would be better for this. But the Jungle Curry wasn't as good as I would have imagined it to be. Where were the mangoes in it, as promised? Maybe it would be better on noodles... I couldn't tell this was a medium spiciness. Over all the SPnoodles were the best. And the Roti with curry sauce was great too. Oh and to top everything off, they have wooden forks (instead of plastic!) and chili oils and hot sauce (in case it wasn't spicy enough..) and I like the eatery-style dining room. read more

Well I have had the opportunity to making it down to The Noodle Box three times now and I'm glad to say that I haven't been disappointed yet with any of my orders thus far. High on my list and what I would consider to any place that serves Thai food is the Tom Yum Soup. This is a staple people and lets be honest there is some bad Tom Yum out there, but not here. If you get the chance do get the Spicy Peanut Chicken and throw-in some prawns and you are good to go... Though for me I'm liking it a bit on the Mild/Medium side as it has a lot of flavour and you just don't want to be overpowered by the heat. read more

Just try walking past this place. After smelling the black bean and teriyaki sauces sizzling away in their woks, it's hard to resist for sure! Cambodian Jungle Curry with Rice, Teriyaki Box, Tom Yum Soup, Roti with Curry dipping sauce, it's all good here. Be careful what you wish for when asking for hot and spicy. I usually like things really spicy but only order my hotness at a 4 out of 10 here. Everything is made fresh to order, which is huge for me. I can't stand reheated food. Just order your food from the friendly staff and wait for your name to be called to dig in. Lunch for 2 is a bit pricey though, especially since there's no table service - about $35 after tip. read more

My favourite order at The Noodle Box is the Black Bean and Garlic Tofu stir fry. It comes with tofu, hokkein noodles, bean sprouts, garlic, peppers, and some greens that I couldn't identify but are still dee-lish. The portions are gigantic, enough for 2 seperate meals. Unless you're a big dude or have a bottomless stomach. The only problem I've had with the food is how awful it is after re-heating. I don't know what happens to the flavour after a brief refrigeration but it's um.. not good. They also use adorable takeout containers! So awesome! For $2 extra you can get brown rice instead. I almost feel hypocritical giving Noodle Box only three stars as I have dined here on a number of occasions and don't necessarily plan to stop. I will say the fact that it is so conveniently located to my home is most of the reason. Noodle Box epitomizes the height of capitalizing on the pan-asian cool trend while making a lot of money doing it. It's hip beats and bright green walls could attract anyone walking down the streets of 4th avenue on a weekday night - not to mention the alluring waft of garlic/chili/black bean scents pumping out the door. The prices, ($10-15) I still can't help but feel are too high everytime i carry my little take out, stomach sized box home, Especially since at the end of the day it's really just Asian street noodles, which are as cheap as they come. Moreover, the service is outstandingly slow. I kid you not, the wait is often 40-50 minutes AFTER you order. I highly recommend calling in ahead of time. Finally, there are something like 7 levels of heat they Noodle Box uses in their spice barometer, when in fact there are actually just 2. It is running joke myself and my noodle box going partner have had for a while. Mild Medium is totally mild, tasteless, totally bland whereas the next step Medium is fire engine, screaming, please-take-me-to-the-hospital-or-the-toilet hot. And I'm a fan of heat! Since this has been the case for some time now and likely it will not change, I recommend going with a friend, getting a dish at each level and mixing the two. This experiment has rendered excellent results in my experience. My favourites remain the garlic Black Bean and Chili Plum. Be warned, the Thai Spicy Peanut is more like a dry, sauce-less, saltier version, still good though. read more
