Norma's needs to update their menu from this 2000s brunch culture vibe with a block of so-so cheese melted on everything. Obviously you're there for the setting and of course the service is wonderful (albeit clearly understaffed, hope the Parker staff are making a living wage at this five star resort) but the food is not good given the price. Order the pancakes, they are the best thing on the menu. Do NOT order the huevos rancheros because if you ever had real ones it will make you very sad. read more

My first time here. It's a hidden gem though. The food menu looks a bit pricey. It can be, but I got a spinach and American cheese omelette. A toasted everything bagel. My buddy got Three medium eggs, maple bacon, and toast. I got a very strong ( meaning good! ) Americano with a small side of chocolate biscotti. ( comes with ). They started us off with a glass of water and also a berry smoothie. ( comes with ). The food was really good. Service was awesome. Everyone very courteous and sweet. Norma's is always a favorite stop in Palm Springs. Unfortunately I am NOT a fan of their table reservation system thru peak which you have to,pay for. We booked a table for 6, 2 weeks before the app would allow/open tables. There were no tables for 6 in the patio so I had to book inside. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a rude host who did not say, welcome. Instead she said you realize that you booked an inside table right? And I can't really do anything for you in the patio which was 3/4 empty. It was also my husband's birthday which she didn't even bother asking about. As we were waiting to get seated a couple who were regulars walks up. This host loses her mind and stars A--kissing to this couple and tells her colleague, can you take these guys to their table and I'll walk this couple to their regular table. I mean, this host should be fired. She basically let this couple cut us in line. Zero skills! Epic fail. The food was amazing , the table was lame. Fortunately the manager Marco came up, asked how we were doing and told us how to best secure a patio table going forward. Not the fun experience of the past. I had some time to kill before my flight home after spending three days at Parker Palm Springs, so I decided to drop by Norma's for a quick meal to tide me over. On a Wednesday morning, all of the outdoor seating was booked up with reservations, so I had to take a seat inside (so if you want to ensure you get a table outside, make a reservation). The hostess was a bit snotty and cold, but after observing how some of the uppity clientele engaged with her, I was (mildly) sympathetic. One guy walked up with his family and asked for an outdoor table; when he was told the same thing I was, he demanded to know what time the reservations were for instead of just taking no for an answer. "Entitled" was a common trait I observed among many of the guests who dined there that morning. The hostess showed me to my table, and within seconds a couple of my coworkers noticed me a few feet away and invited me to join them at their table. I hadn't even been served water yet, just given a menu, so I asked the hostess if it would be alright if I joined my coworkers; she seemed mildly miffed and hesitantly allowed it, which was odd given that they were the only other party inside and each table has ample room for up to four people. I ordered the chicken and wild mushroom omelette ($24) and a smoothie ($8). The smoothie was pretty egregiously priced, especially for the size of the drink. Norma's offers a different smoothie every day, and on this day it was mango pineapple. Really good, but pretty small in size. The omelette was filled with a ton of vegetables, including enoki mushrooms, and came with a side of small potatoes, but it was a bit dry inside. Especially the chicken. If this had some sort of sauce on top or something that would've helped. The flavors were all on point, but the dryness really impacted this dish. Our waiter was a nice guy, but he hardly came around and seemed to be prioritizing helping the people outside. He only checked in once. There was also a backup at the drink counter; for a long time, there was no one manning the counter (and in fact, no staff at all inside at one point), so people who stopped in just to order a drink to-go were standing around waiting for whoever was supposed to be making drinks to show up. Someone else walked up and asked for coffee and was told by the hostess that they needed to make more and it would be a wait. But how do you not have a steady stream of coffee brewing and ready to go throughout the brunch service? These guys just seemed poorly prepared for what seemed like a pretty moderate amount of guests. They weren't dealing with a flood of people by any means (and the restaurant isn't very big), but were harried, rushed, and as a result offered rushed service. Not sure if the experience would've been better if we were sitting outside, since most of the attention seemed to be on the guests out there, but overall this wasn't a great first impression. read more

I had a truly horrible experience at Norma's. Warning: DO NOT make a reservation here. Ever. Even if it's confirmed via text, you confirm via phone multiple times...it does not mean anything. I will say that the food, cocktails, and service from the waiters were phenomenal (that's the only reason I am giving a 2 instead of a 1). Now, here's my story on making and showing up to a reservation...brace yourself. I called early March to make a brunch reservation for a bachelorette party of 15 people on a Saturday. I made the reservation over the phone no problem. I called back to confirm that all 15 of us were able to sit at one table. Confirmed. So when making the reservation, I was confirmed twice in one day over the phone that we were all set for 15 people at one table. The day before the brunch I got two missed call from Norma's and they left a voicemail. Here's the transcript: "Hi this is the park of Palm Springs just to giving you a call to see about a reservation that you have for tomorrow have a wonderful day bye-bye...". Directly after I got a text asking me to confirm the reservation, which I did (screenshot attached). I did not call back this day (reminder: I was at a bachelorette party). The next morning which was the day of the reservation, I called Norma's to inquire about the voicemail. Because the person that had left the voicemail did not leave their name, no one could direct me to the person or provide context to the voicemail. But I did confirm with the person that I spoke with that I was set for the reservation. We then roll up to Norma's with 15 girls right on time. The manager comes out up in arms saying that he tried to call me 6 times the day before (he did not, he called me twice - screenshot below). He said that they cannot accommodate a group of 15 and the person that accepted the reservation "must not work there anymore". We asked if he could get creative and push together some tables. They said yes and we waited 30 minutes to be seated. Instead of admitting any sort of fault the manager continued to say "I tried to call you yesterday" in which I responded "and I called you back this morning and the reservation was confirmed". He had the audacity to say "imagine if you were in my shoes". Honey. I have 14 girls standing behind me expecting brunch. Imagine being in MY shoes. To really add the cherry on top, as we were waiting for the tables to be arranged, the hostess comes up to me and says "we tried to call you yesterday". I again reiterated that I had called that very morning and my reservation was confirmed. I did not understand what value the hostess was expecting to add by saying the exact same thing the manager said. All it did was upset the group even further. One of the girls in my party walked by as the hostess was talking shit about us to another employee. We were finally seated, and as I mentioned the waiters, food, and cocktails were fantastic. I honestly have never had a worse experience with a reservation and never been treated so poorly by a manager and a host with zero acknowledgment of an error on their end or any sort of compassion or customer service. I took the mothers in my life to Norma's for a belated Mother's Day brunch. I initially tried to book a reservation (2 weeks ahead of my desired visit) but their website was showing a paid amount for a reservation (banquette outside $25). I thought it had to be a mistake. I called and the staff said that they offer limited "open" reservations (they offered me 8:00am and 2:45pm), but if we wanted a time that wasn't available during those open times (like the 11:30 brunch I wanted to book) i was going to have to pay for it. This gave me pause, but it was for my moms and their worth it. Their website showed a very cute patio, so I asked whether or not there were misters outside to keep the patio cool- it was supposed to be 100+ degrees. They acted confused, but then said yes, they do! So I paid for a reservation for 4 for outside patio. We arrived the day and time of our reservation. When we got there they said they only had a reservation for two! I told them I paid for a reservation for 4. They said they could get us a table (not a banquette). However, we saw there weren't any misters in the patio, and the air was stagnant. We requested an inside seat. They put us at a table right near the door. Then waiter was great. He said he was going to bring over an order of Norma's doughnuts "for free" for booking through the reservation system. The reservation was significantly more than the menu price of the doughnuts, but it was nice to have something for the price. We got our drinks- my mom ordered a Bellini that was more like a mimosa- no fruit purée. My grandma got a cappuccino which she said was great. The doughnuts were the best thing we had through the meal. Fresh and fluffy, although it was not as airy as I expect for doughnuts. We ordered food and then the wait began. There were multiple empty tables inside, but the patio was very busy. However I think we waited 45 minutes or from when we ordered our food to when it arrived at our table. I got the short ribs Benedict and it was the best entree of the 3 we ordered. My grandma got the French toast. One was a normal piece of French toast, but the second slice was almost a half of loaf of bread on a plate. It was very dramatic looking, but the inside of the large piece is just bread! Not the sweet custard/cinnamon that the makes it French toast. My mom got their waffle which boasted a brûlée topping in its description. The waffle came covered in fresh bananas and berries, but no brûlée of any kind. The waffle was also very bread-like and heavy. Not crispy or fluffy at all. It was also very loud inside. It reminded me of a high school cafeteria. Overall it took 2 hours for us to get seated and eat a mediocre meal and get the check. It was a very large sum for breakfast food and one alcoholic drink. This was the worst brunch we had ever experienced. It took almost 10 mins to be greeted. We were there for an hour by the time we got our food. We were never checked on after our food arrived. It seemed like there were periods where there were no servers out assisting guests. The food was horrible. No flavor at all. I got an omelette with potatoes. They always start you off with a tasty little smoothie. They forgot the tasty today. As for our food, the flat as a pancake crab cakes were flat. They were barely warm and not worthy of the price. The crisp street tacos tasted like the crisp fish had been left on the street. Nothing worse than fishy fish. we decided to skip dessert. We feared the worst. Service was slow to nonexistent. Let's be honest, the Parker is fabulous, and Norma's is meant to cater to all. We didn't go to Norma's expecting excellence, but it was a wonderful evening with beautiful company. Our server was fabulous, she was warm and friendly. We really enjoyed the small talk with her. The food was tasty, the cocktails were great! We sat outside and were able to enjoy the nice breeze while spending time together. The bartender, Ezekiel brought us our drinks and even invited us to the lounge for a night cap. I normally feel terrible doing anything other than a good review but I feel like I need to say something to help others who are searching for a dinner spot. I use Yelp a lot when traveling so the truth needs to be said to help us find the right place. Three of us ate at Norma's last night and we were the only people there at 7pm. Because we had no idea it would be empty, when we made reservations, the site required us to pay $10 to sit outside in the banquette seating. When we arrived, it was literally empty. So right away we were in shock that we'd paid $10 for no reason at all. We were a bit worried given nobody was there, but sat down and ordered drinks and food. The guys had martinis and they said they were delicious, but damn, they should be for $24! Two of us ordered fish tacos (extremely bland and we kept pouring more hot sauce on them to help but nothing could help) and one of us ordered the Ahi sandwich (also flavorless). The service was perfect and literally everyone at the hotel, bar and restaurant were extremely nice. The ambiance is great. The hotel itself is just amazing and the grounds are as well. We sat on the back patio and had nice heat lamps to keep us warm. I feel like Normas is truly a place for brunch and either they need to work on better food for dinner (and give it some flavor!) or they need to give up on dinner. A member of our party ordered the vegan crab cakes, she upfront with our waiter about her dietary restrictions and allergies and got violently ill afterwards. The service was also subpar. To give everyone the benefit of the doubt our waiter may have been brand new as he spilled drinks and water multiple times all over the table. He wasn't friendly or attentive. True perfection from the greeting at the door, to the moment we left! It's hard to describe just how magical and special Norma's, tucked in the Parker is. Make a reservation and get over there! The service was amazing. Every staff member was lovely, attentive and quick! I wish I got the name of our server, but they were so incredibly sweet, offered the best recs for food and shopping in the area and just had great positive energy. The food is top notch, flavorful, filling but not greasy or heavy. We got the donuts, lox and bagel and lobster/asparagus omelet. Each bite was divine. For those complaining about the cost, the portions are huge and the ingredients are fresh. If you want to enjoy lobster in the middle of the desert, in an amazingly beautiful environment, it's going to cost a little more than diner prices. Trust me, you will leave here full and happy. I was really expecting more from this establishment. My boyfriend used to go to Normas in NY all the time to get the same 2 entrees. The crunchy French toast and the Nutella packed jacks. The restaurant is tucked into this beautiful hotel. Service: Service initially was great, then took a slight turn towards the end. Our server kinda disappeared. Food: crunchy French toast was delicious and didn't change one bit. My Nutella packed jacks were *not* packed with Nutella at all. I'm usually not one to complain or mention any discrepancies, but when you're paying $30 for a pancake, you gotta put your foot down. Told our server nicely that there wasn't any Nutella in the pancakes... he asked me if I wanted a side of Nutella or if I wanted it inside. I said inside. He brought it back (not new) without* any utensils and with barely any Nutella inside. He mentioned it was because the cooks baked the pancake and it melted??? when compared to other pics, you can SEE the Nutella *packed* (as the name entails) inside. I was shocked. Mind you, it wasn't busy and he was only waiting 2 tables. I probably won't come back to this Norma's again. The reviews aren't too promising either. The brunch entrees were hit and miss. For the exorbitant prices they shouldn't miss! The berry brioche French toast was bread with berries. No hint of French toast egg treatment, just dry bread. The short rib Benny didn't work with the sweet potato pancake. Thank goodness someone in my group had an extra piece of sourdough toast so I could salvage the eggs, because the server never came by to ask how we were doing. My Short Ribs Benedict was supposable "one of the best things on the menu" by my waiters account. Was pretty disappointed. Went here two weekends ago for dinner and thought that the service was terrible. It was very slow and everything took forever--I could barely get ahold of my waitress. The food was also extremely disappointing, especially considering the price... and I am willing to pay good money for amazing food, however, this was lacking incredible amounts of flavor. I tried a few different dishes with my guests and we all thought everything was very bland and an unfortunately disappointing experience. This was our second time at Norma's. The first was a bit rough and we let management know, so upon our return they offered free cocktails, appetizer and dessert. How could we go wrong? First, our server Jose was OUTSTANDING. He was so personable without being cloying, friendly but circumspect. Just delightful. Second, the food we had was right out of the oven or pan, perfectly cooked, and had very hearty portions. Tastalicious! Third, while we were inside at a booth because of the heat, we did long to try the outside patio next time. It is so charming under the umbrellas. At the Parker Hotel, behind a brilliant orange door, you'll find Norma's tucked away on a shaded back patio. The short stroll through the Parker's lobby is a treat, where midcentury chairs are upholstered in a vibrant shades of teal and whimsical details like a glass foot sculpture and several suits of armor seem right at home. Outside a pair of French doors, you'll find Norma's on the expansive back patio. The decor matches the hotel's bold, midcentury modern vibe. In particular, I loved the salt and pepper shakers, which were bright teal and reminded me of two abstract bluebirds. We had booked ahead through Peak and arrived to find our corner table waiting. We were charged to book the table, but got to select the exact spot in the restaurant we wanted. The corner sofa table we selected was perfect. As a thank you for booking through the app, the staff brought us complimentary donuts. Closer to soft beignets and thoroughly-coated in a dusting of cinnamon and sugar, we dipped them in a sweet blueberry compote and a tart lemon custard. LOVED. Beyond the classic mimosa and bellini we had to start, the winner of our meal was the eggs benedict. The perfectly jammy eggs were Norma's spin on the classic. Besides the Canadian bacon, the real revelation was the small pancake that served as the base. It soaked up the egg yolk and hollandaise and left me questioning why on earth you would select a craggy English muffin instead of the gooey pancake texture. LOVED. We also sampled the Wa-Za, which was not my favorite. After the perfectly-balanced eggs benny, the Wa-Za's combination of a waffle, fruit, banana, and crème brûlée was a miss. We also had the potato pancakes, which were good but not great. The combination of potato and cranberry applesauce was thoughtful and balanced, but again, when there are heavenly donuts and perfect eggs benny to be had, why get anything else? Overall, we had a wonderful experience. Would highly recommend to anyone in Palm Springs looking to indulge before hitting the pool or taking an architecture tour around the city. read more
