I might be biased because I've loved their kombucha since they started selling at Whole Foods, so I knew I had to try their kombucha bar. Drinking at their bar does hit different. A friend and I got a flight of their fruity hard kombucha's and they definitely taste more fresh on draft than in the cans. They also sell their cans here if you prefer that, and their Novo beers if you're not into kombucha which gives it a nice variety of options. The environment and the ambiance is also such a feel good vibe located on the ocean beach strip, so it's just nice to sit and chat with friends here. This place is rad! Tried theirs hard kombuchas (sexy pina colada) at my local liquor store and was blown away. Was excited to hear they were opening up a shop by my home in PL. Love the taste and that it's lower cal and carb and i don't feel like i ate a loaf of bread like i do when i have IPAS. They also brew beer under novo brewery so if that's your jam don't worry they have a nice tap line up of beers and bucha. This is my new go to. The food vendor outside was good too. I love this place! I have to admit I'm not a fan of hard kombucha. I've tried a bunch of different booches. I didn't like them until Nova. Ohhh my goodness I can't express enough how delicious their kombuchas are. The sexy pina colada tastes just like a pina colada. There is no weird aftertaste. They are delicious! Gluten free and vegan. Their beers are also amazing! The mango iPA is so good with no weird aftertaste you sometimes get with a fruity beer. The service is so friendly. Great vibes here! read more

Awesome, newish spot in OB with a great selection of beers and kombucha! It's a large space with an open concept with seating indoors and outdoors, so I felt completely safe being there during covid. The first time I went here was for my birthday with a fun group of friends! I was so excited that my neighborhood had a local kombucha brewery opening! And I was quickly disappointed. The service was cold, rude, and unkind. They were not friendly or helpful when asking what to try from the menu. They acted bothered by our large group. They kept checking in to see if we would be wrapping up soon and they didn't show any hospitality or manners. It was very unfortunate. I have gone back twice now, hoping it would have gotten better, but it hasn't. This last time, two weeks ago, the bar tender was again cold, not friendly, and not hospitable. I will for sure be paying the extra in gas or Uber to continue to go to June Shine in north park. read more

Two stars for the fact that the kombucha is good. Would otherwise give zero as service is rude. As you might be reading from other reviews, there is indeed a male bartender who is quite aggressive. We had a misunderstanding but he decided to make a scene and scold me publicly. I admit, the mistake was mine and I own it 100%, but management may want to rethink employing someone who is quick to engage and escalate, or one day it might actually turn into something no one wants especially since alcohol is involved. That's my two cents and management is free to reach out for additional feedback if they ever deem like it. In any case, good thing Nova sells cans so folks don't have to put up with that kind of energy, but ultimately your choice if you decide drinking in person is worth the potential awkwardness / headache. There are some great breweries everywhere in OB that can provide both good drinks and service, so don't feel like you'd miss out. read more

Nova took the place of Culture, which was a fixture of the OB craft brew scene for years. They now offer a variety of Kombucha and craft brews, all of which are solid across the board. The real treat here is that many of the bartenders are local fixtures in the OB community. This means a lot in an industry that has become so widespread and varied that is hard to find a place that reminds you that you are part of the neighborhood. The service is great and they are dog friendly, so if your an animal lover like me you can always come in and meet new furry friends. Occasionally they have food outside, yummy tacos and whatnot. If I could give less than 1 star I would! I have been coming here over the last few months on Fridays. There is this awesome female bartender with curly blond hair who always makes great beer recommendation and plays great tunes. The whole vibe is chill. 1st, they stopped serving the strawberry milkshake beer I liked so much, but I could get over that. What I cannot get over was the way the other creepy male bartender that she works with treats her. It is every week, but this past Friday was particularly bad, she got so upset she left. I've never seen someone talked down to and embarrassed the way she was and I will not be returning to an establishment that allows such poor treatment of its female employees! Gross! Cool spot, I come here 1-2x a month came here to get a non alcoholic kombucha the same one in a can that I always get and always drink here and was charged 65% ($2) extra because I asked for a glass to put my drink which I've done every time I've ever come and have never been charged for. I would give this zero stars if I could. I was here Friday with my boyfriend. The female bartender took care of us and was so helpful when i couldn't decide what to order. She was knowledgeable and kind. Then I witnessed the male bartender scream at the female co worker. In front of all the patrons. I'm not sure what was happening but the girl was noticeably shaken up and walked out. We left shortly after because we were so disturbed to see an employee treated like that. i will start off by saying their kombuchas are amazing. i have been there several times and really enjoy it. when the pandemic was going on we understood that they needed to sell food to serve alcohol, this is cool no problems i will support. we hit the orange tier and the first week we were required to get food ok no problem. the second week into the tier still made us buy food ok whatever. but now you are requiring me to buy food to enjoy a beverage, either these guys are oblivious to the rules and realize hey we don't need to serve food anymore or they have a contract with the food guy and are like ok I need to sell food to pay this guy. well whoever is managing this place should wake up to what's going around or maybe you are not good for this business and quit now and find a new career path because you are not good. read more
