I had been waiting to see them open, and had taken a peak at the menu which had a lot of new exciting items you don't find at your generic Thai spots. I finally got the opportunity to try and I was not disappointed! We got the sakoo, which was something completely new to us, but so tasty. We also got the shrimp and garlic noodles, and the shrimp were so crispy and the sauce was delicious. My only complaint was it was not hot (temperature) enough. Duck larb was our choice to begin the meal. It was was prepared perfectly, sparkling with flavor. We were sure that Oakland had a great new Thai restaurant. But our main dish, the Khao Soi, was disappointing. It was not very flavorful, and the flavors it did have weren't so pleasing. Maybe we'll try it again some time since the larb was so good. read more

Checked this new place out with my girlfriend because the reviews and food pics seemed so good--and it did not disappoint! The Thai iced tea was creamy despite being dairy free, and all the curries were rich and heavenly. Roti was both crisp and soft. The massuman short rib was so fall-off-the bone soft. The owner was super nice and excited too as she took our order and served us. The restaurant was fairly empty when we got there, but we started fairly late for lunch. Still, more folks should check this place out! read more

Lots of dishes I recognize are on the menu, and many I don't. I enjoyed my food, the service and the ambiance, well lit, comfy chairs. I will return to try something new. There are plenty of Thai restaurants in the area, but Nua is comparable to restaurants we ate at in Thailand. Seriously. We had the Tom Kha soup and I didn't think it was too sweet, just wonderfully flavorful. We also shared the deep fried tofu with tamarind sauce, which I thought was fine and my husband loved. That was the spiciest dish we had. We shared a green curry, which was just as delicious as the soup. We look forward to coming back, hopefully with more people, so that we can sample more dishes. The owner told us that vegetarians and vegans can order anything on the menu, and get a vegetarian/vegan version, which is great. This is clearly our favorite Thai restaurant in the area, and only minutes from our house. My only complaint is that the restaurant was chilly enough that I had to keep my jacket on. read more

Whooooooaa! Two words: D a b o m b ! So happy to have stumbled upon this little Bay Area gem, serving, in my humble estimation, the b e s t Thai in the Bay Area. The owners hail from Chang Mai in Northern Thailand, and the flavor and texture palettes reflect this gastronomic esthetic, slightly off the beaten track with respect to mainstream Thai restaurants in the area. Not to miss are the signature Cornish hen with green curry and roti. Don't miss a host of other delicacies such as the massaman curry with short ribs and the green papaya salad. My only regret was that I did not try their other signature dish, Kha Soi, an egg noodle curry, another star of the Chang Mai tradition. But no worries--I have no doubt I will get to enjoy this dish, as I anticipate come here again and again in the future-- possibly as early as later this week! Kudos, Nua! read more

I called the restaurant and asked if they use MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) in their food because I have allergic reaction to it, She adamantly said NO. So I took my family there last night, I am hospitalized today because they lied to me. What kind of establishment does that??? MSG is a Neuro Toxin. I have allergies to it but it hurts everyone. They use this to make their cheaply made food delicious, their meat tender. When you eat it, the chemical continues to tenderize your body. Stay away from this restaurant. read more

Had lunch here this week and really enjoyed their basil eggplant with tofu. It's my go to dish when I go to Thai restaurants and completely colors my opinion of and return to a place. Nua's version of the dish was lovely without being greasy, which seems to be a challenge for that dish at many places. Service was prompt and friendly. Interior is bright, clean and with sturdy chairs that didn't make me worry about my large size. Looking forward to a return visit! read more

AMAZING , authentic food!! 6 of us tried a variety of dishes - each one had a distinct flavor . Roti is homemade ; all curries are homemade and fresh. Standouts for us were : tender short ribs braised for 8 hrs in a massaman curry ; rice ball salad ; moist & flavorful pad Thai; homemade roti with fresh curry sauce ; green curry with coconut milk ; khao soi street food with 2 types of noodles with pickled veggies in a curry broth . How does this place have duck a good rating? This is the most painfully bland Thai food I have ever had. Worst I have eaten that did not make me ill. I got tom yum soup and a green curry. What an awesome experience! The food here is definitely a step above the rest. I'm so glad food this delicious is nearby! The Massamun short ribs were extraordinary, and we vacuumed up the crispy rice ball salad, their scrumptious roti and curry dip, coconut rice, pad Thai with prawns and basil eggplant with pork. The service was efficient, thoughtful, and friendly without being intrusive. It's a pretty, pleasant space with chairs that aren't numbing and a noise level that allowed us to hear each other.
