This was my 3rd and last visit to O-Ku. I kept thinking that what I was previously disappointed with would change, but I was wrong. Once again, the texture of the sushi rice was off and had a sweet taste. The sushi itself was fine, but nothing exceptional. The Rock Shrimp was so greasy, it was inedible. I tried the rice noodle dish which was overwhelmed with the sauce. I can honestly say the quality of the fish was comparable to a Japanese restaurant I've gone to on occasion which is quarter the price of O-Ku. They went over and beyond for our anniversary! Champagne, a great deal on bottled wine that day, fresher than fresh seafood for the sushi, the suggestions by the server were on point! The explosion of flavors were over the top and it literally was the best sushi we've ever eaten! This is a great new spot in Germantown. Nashville is lacking good sushi so this place is a great addition to the city. They have happy hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5-7pm. During happy hour their aren't any drink specials, but there is 1/2 price on all rolls. This is a great deal considering the rolls are not all your basic run of the mill junk. We went on a Wednesday for happy hour and split 5 rolls. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. The server was nice and attentive and the space is large and open with a huge bar area as well. As far as parking, there is a paid lot ($3) if you can't find a spot on the street. I would highly recommend stopping in to try it out. I'm looking forward to trying other things on the menu (besides sushi) as well. read more

My husband and I were out walking around Germantown and noticed this bright purple neon sign from a distance and decided to go see what it was. We walked into O-Ku, an upscale, dimly light sushi bar. We sat at the bar and ordered a Sugar and Spice and 7 Lucky Gods cocktail. When I say delicious! The sugar and Spice takes your mouth on a ride from sweet to spicy all in one sip. O-kurrrr so we went to O-Ku on a whim. Friend picked it because "it sounded better than Green Pheasant." We sat at the sushi bar which was a great decision. There were two sushi makers back there who were very friendly and our server was great. We got to try the pork belly (on the house) which was amaaazing. Pork belly is always good though. Then we tried the honey garlic chicken wings. Holy crud these were incredible. Probably some of the best wings I've ever had. And since they are done lollipop style you don't have to fight with the bones. Portion sizes can be disappointing at tapas style restaurants but the portion on this was great. I got the Playboy and the Tennessee Two Step. The Two Step was good, a little bit of a kick. The Playboy I thought was really good, love the Wagyu beef and goat cheese. That being said, DONT get it if you don't like goat cheese. We also got to try some mochi (on the house) and I could eat an entire plate of those strawberry ones. Overall great hidden gem! read more

Wow! Highly recommend this gem! The Playboy roll was beyond delicious and so different than anything I've ever tried in the sushi realm. Sake selection was on point and the food menu has so much to choose from that I can't wait to go back to try more. We shared the 4oz Tobanyaki and Braised Short Rib. The Tobanyaki was phenomenal and it was neat to have the experience of cooking it at our table. The Braised Short Rib was also delicious. Our waiter, CK, was great and super helpful as was every person on staff that we encountered. The service was spectacular. Our server knew the menu inside out. My wife asked for a drink suggestion, and he zoned right in on the perfect drink for her. Sushi recommendations were sought, but not forced on us. He explained how each was prepared (and did not laugh at my butchering pronounceation of each dish) and served. The sushi arrived quickly, tasted very fresh and had just the perfect amount of seasoning. This was a great dining experience that I highly recommend. Seriously the most overrated sushi place in the country. First of all. They don't serve hot sake, they have a few different types of cold sake. I don't understand why a Japanese place would not serve hot sake. That's the reason I decided on sushi that night. Now to the food, we had tuna tataki to start, shotgun and black magic I think. This is a genuinely good restaurant. Their miso soup was fantastic, the chili lime edamame was an excellent twist on a Japanese staple. So the location of the restaurant seems to be hidden which adds to its alone. Once inside, the restaurant becomes a casual dinning experience where the food is fantastic and the drinks are a small part of heaven. The staff was super knowledgeable and help when deciding the sushi that were to grace our palettes. The managers even came by to check out that we werE being taken care of. Our waitress suggested the squid ink shrimp dish as an appetizer and it was the best I have ever had. Truly one of the most impressive dining experiences I've had in this city! The host staff was welcoming and polite and even coordinated a surprise for my husband's birthday. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and has a tasteful simplicity. Our server Laura was unbelievably knowledgeable, kind, attentive, and personable, and every single dish she suggested was better than anticipated. To start, we had the Shogun cocktail with Edamame with white truffle, the Miso Hamachi Tacos, Kung Pao Cauliflower (amazing, and I'm not usually a cauliflower dish fan), and the Black Magic. All incredible! The surprise dishes of the night (again suggested by Laura) were the Hamachi Carpaccio, Usuzukuri, and Tuna Tataki, and I'm still processing how delicious they all were. The sushi rolls were hands down the best I've had in Nashville, and we ordered the Playboy Roll, Shogun Roll, and the Tennessee Two Step Roll. Again... insanely tasty and a recommendation of our amazing server! Add in the salmon and yellowtail nigiri, scallops, and mochi and cheesecake to finish things off, and you can imagine how satisfied we were as we rolled out of the dining room.
