For those wondering, the cashier mentioned that jasmine silk boba has more of a refreshing taste, while the wintermelon silk boba has a brown sugar taste. I will say the drinks are on the pricey end for what I would pay for boba but the price reflects Sawtelle costs. They're giving 20% off the first month of opening though! I've been waiting to try this place out for a while because a handful of my friends were pretty excited about it when it opened. I finally found time to visit this place myself. Parking is a bit weird here, I ended up parking across the street and then walked over. Not sure if there's a better place to park, but it's not really the fault of the restaurant for this location. When I got there, I got a couple samples of their tea. There was some like grass jelly or some topping that was in it, which was pretty good. But then I ended up ordering the Jasmine Green crafted milk tea. I was also a bit turned off by the prices of the drinks in general, being anywhere from $5 - $8, which is pretty crazy. The drink I got was $6.50 pre-tax, but for the flavor and size, I don't think it was worth it at all. My friends say that the flavor of their teas are high quality, but I guess my taste isn't as refined as theirs. It tasted good for sure, but I don't think it merits a $7-8 price tag for such a small cup. I'm glad I tried this place once, as I probably won't come back. But I still encourage you to try it yourself and form your own opinion. This is the really offensive part of this review but maybe not for the mixologist since he's so open to hearing from customers... I usually get boba tea from It's Boba Time which I love as a place to like work on stand-up comedy writing, scriptwriting, even film-rehearse scenes I need to do for my online acting class, but I use a lavalier mic so I'm not making a lot of noise even though they play their music hella loud anyway. I sometimes get the rose boba tea at the competitor boba shop I mentioned (is it really a competitor though? Because I see NO awards there. They're not even in the same category as Odd One Out, let alone the same universe.). But after trying the Black Rose Boba Tea at Odd One Out, which I've been wanting to try for a few weeks now after finding out they exist (one night I did a few mock orders on Yelp because I had a massive craving for it but it was 8pm and I'm sure the black tea would've kept me up ALL night)... Yes. Definitely recommend OOO tea. The silk boba is a must try and they describe it as if boba and jelly had a baby. It's soft, it actually can be refrigerated and survive till the next day, so this is great if you are like me and buy one for now and one for later. Champion milk tea, silk boba milk tea, yuzu Osmanthus are all good. Perfectly sweet is not too sweet. Each cup is brewed and made to order so don't expect it to be super quick. Strong floral, nutty flavor tones with that taste of honey goodness. Yuzu felt light, fruit, and sweet. Not too sour. As for the silk boba, I think it's quite unique. This shop doesn't have your typical tapioca pearl but the silk boba is not like a regular grass jelly either. I think of it like a distant cousin of a grass jelly and an aloe vera. When you chew on the jelly, it has its firmness, but also it doesn't easily break like grass jelly does. After a heavy meal in Sawtelle, I think it's worth trying out this place if you're nearby. However, it is pretty much on the premium price point since their specialty drink "Champion Milk Tea" is starting at $8, and that's without their silken boba either. read more

I've been hearing about how good this boba place is, so I decided to make the trip to try it out. On a Sunday afternoon around 2pm, the line to order took around 20 minutes and another 15 minutes to get our drinks. Since they are in soft opening mode, they are offering a 20% off discount until 9/22. The store is mostly a grab-and-go place, rather small with limited seating. We ordered the champion milk tea with wintermelon silk boba, the yuzu osmanthus silk boba, and the juniper bliss. What's unique to this store is that the recommended "perfect" sugar is 50% and the highest sweetness is 75%. While these drinks are very expensive, I must say that it is very high quality, and you get what you pay for. The champion milk tea was indeed impressive and creamy, with no bitterness from the tea, and the silk boba has a nice chewiness to it. The yuzu osmanthus was refreshing but initially a bit sweet at perfect sugar (although after the ice melted it was fine). The juniper bliss was good, but I personally gravitated towards the other two drinks in terms of taste. The person who took our order informed us that they are willing to remake any drink to make sure customers are satisfied. Overall, I was very satisfied with the drinks BUT taking into consideration the original price without the discount and 16oz size, I can't say that I'm willing to spend so much on drinks. read more

Nice place to check out and great customer service. Found out about this place when I passed by to buy a croissant a couple doors down. Stopped in to check it out. They're currently doing a soft opening until 9/22. 20% discount on drinks. The line was starting to get long and out the door just to order drinks and took about 10 minutes to get the drink after the order. Their customer service is pretty great. They'll help you decide and give some samples out for their tea if it's available. Ordered the Everyday Oddinary Boba which tastes like typical milk tea you can get anywhere. Wanted to try this first some places can be really watered down. Also tried the Champion Milk tea which the owner said they're known for. The tea is flavorful and the boba is nice and chewy. The size of the cups are small compared to other boba places I've been to and I feel like the drinks could've used more boba. Some down sides that I see a lot of people say and I can agree with; small portions and pricey drinks. Although these are true, the staff is friendly, the store is really aesthetic, and the drinks are fantastic tasting! It may not be an everyday type of drink for me, but definitely one for special occasions or celebrations. I discovered this place in Sawtelle during its soft opening and I got hooked on their boba! It's a small shop filled with a lot of natural light and a small amount of seating. A lot of times, the line is out the door, but the wait is never too bad at all. Of course, I tried the Champion Milk Tea, which was great, but my fave is the Yuzu Osmanthus, which I love! While eating lunch in sawtelle last Saturday, my family and I decided to finally check out this supposedly really good boba shop. As a warning, they take pretty long to make drinks so unless you have 20-30 minutes to spare, definitely plan your trip accordingly. We waited 30 minutes for two drinks and there were 4 staff working. The main cashier was also a bit rude to my husband--this is our first time there so of course it's natural to not know all the names of the boba drinks. Most of their teas are sourced from different areas of Taiwan, the birthplace of boba! Their silk boba is really a topping that you have to try when you come here! It has a texture of boba, grass jelly, and to me kinda also reminds me of mochi! Champion Milk Tea: This tea was soo good. I actually got it for my bf so I only tried a sip of it but it was amazing and I am most definitely buying it for myself next time. The tea was strong and the sweetness was just perfect. The foam on top really topped it off and the silk boba added a great texture to the drink. Jasmine Milk Tea: I was very satisfied with the flavor. The green tea had a good, floral taste. I usually get my drink with oat milk but I wanted to try their drink with just the regular milk that it comes with. I didn't enjoy it as much because it wasn't as creamy so I asked for a replacement and they were sooo kind to offer me another drink with oat milk. It's just okay. I got the iron buddha milk tea and the signature icy peak milk tea with coconut sugar boba, both drinks at the recommended sweetness and ice level. The boba was still really warm in the icy peak drink and made the whole thing lukewarm... and the resulting milk tea was just okay. The ice melted almost instantly, maybe due to the hot boba, and watered down the drink. The boba was also a little small (that's fine) and feathery on the outside, really soft and chewy, almost overcooked type which isn't my favorite. Icy peak as a tea was good, caffeinated and sweet, I wish it was executed better. I liked the iron buddha tea better though, it was cooling and light. Maybe because it had no hot boba in it, it stayed cooler and the milky balance was better, but still not without that watered down, 'thin' feeling. Service was fine, drinks came out within a few minutes and the space was nice. For $8+tax+tip I really expected the drink to be satisfactory in every way, but it wasn't. I'll admit - I rarely go out to Sawtelle unless it's for a special occasion. And with the plethora of boba shops in the 626, there's really no reason to make the trek out to that area for boba. But when Odd One Out became super hyped up on social media for their exceptional teas and hand-crafted toppings, my friends and I were super intrigued. We finally made it out on a Sunday afternoon. There's a small parking lot around the corner where, if you're lucky, you might be able to snag a spot. Otherwise, you'll have to opt for street parking. The storefront is not super big - seems primarily to be a grab and go with some minimal seating. They do have a shelf with their various tea leaves where you're able to take a whiff and admire the quality of the tea. So I ended up ordering 2 drinks - I thought both of them were just okay and probably something I can get at a regular boba shop in the SGV area. What I did notice was how pricey all the drinks were. If you stack toppings, the drinks can come out to about $8-10 for a very small sized cup. I tried the jasmine green milk tea with their coconut sugar boba ($6.50 + $1). I wanted to get the almond jelly as well, but I couldn't go through with paying another $1 for another topping, especially when the cup was pretty small. I think the tea quality is not bad, but nothing super special. Boba was cooked well and quite chewy, but it was on the sweeter side. For almost $8, I think I will pass on this next time. I also ordered the signature icy peak boba with wintermelon silk boba ($8) with extra sugar and no ice. Their extra sugar is a 75%, while their advertised perfect sugar is 50%. I personally thought this drink was way too sweet at extra sugar level. I also wasn't a big fan of the wintermelon silk boba, but my sister thought it was alright. My friends ordered the Yuzu Osmanthus, which was different and pretty refreshing. I also was able to try the Champion milk tea, which wasn't too bad either. After trying this place out, I think I can safely say that I'm not a fan. Sizes of the cup are pretty tiny when you're paying more than $7 for a drink. Odd One Out has a month-long soft opening from Aug 21-Sept 22, 2023 with 20% discount :) Their signature drink is the Champion Milk Tea which you'll see outside the store is the winner of the 2022 Taiwan Milk Tea festival. Must be the real deal since milk teas are originally from Taiwan :) I did try it, and the taste was pretty spot on. It doesn't have boba included to it so you'll have to add that. Take note that if you want the normal boba, you'll have to get the coconut sugar boba, not the silk boba (Jasmine) which is like a grass jelly. Even though I got perfect sugar, it wasn't too sweet! So props to Odd One Out for that. The 5 piece ice is also good in terms of the ice level. My only qualm is that because it's made to order, it takes a while for your orders to be ready. We lined up at 5:57pm, and got our orders at 6:27pm. They just need to work on the queue and how the orders are called. But otherwise, taste wise = good boba place I would recommend. Came here to try something new. I tried to order the watermelon jade basil with crème but they put the order in as just the watermelon jade drink. It was still good. I don't really like the bamboo straws, the end is not pointy enough to stab into the drink. I had to try to stab it like 10 times and was making a mess. The shop is pretty small.
