Jasmine Green Oolong
Arthur T.

One of my favorite boba spots! Came twice in 2 days while visitng! We ordered: golden budda silk boba $7.50, + extra $1 for large jasmine green oolong $5 + $2 for large and jasmine silk boba First day, staff messed up drink by missing boba, and tea flavor wasn't very prominent in jasmine green oolong. Second day was a bit better. Tested sugar level from perfect to extra, and its definitely drastic. Quality control could be better here. Street parking only.

23TW Golden Buddha Silk Boba

I haven't heard of this boba chain before, but my friend recommended them, so we checked them out after dinner in Sawtelle. Odd One Out is a popular boba chain from Taiwan and they offer a unique topping called Silk Boba, which has a jelly-like texture. I went with the 23TW Golden Buddha Silk Boba, which includes Iron Buddha Tea. The milk tea and silk boba were very delicious and I really liked the flavors of the drink. I'll definitely recommend checking them out if you're looking for boba in West LA.

As someone who has actually been to Taiwan and tried the famous Xing Fu Tang boba, I can confidently say that Odd One Out's boba is truly amazing. I rarely drink it because I'm on a diet, but I stopped by with my kids to try their award-winning boba, and we were so satisfied! Even though everyone was already full, the boba tea was so delicious that I kept raving about it until the very last drop. For a moment, it literally made me feel like I was back in Taiwan, which made me so happy! It's too far from where I live to visit often, but if I'm ever in the area again, I will absolutely buy it. I'm just so sad they don't have a location in Irvine.

Iron Buddha Milk Tea

Nice place to check out if you're a fan of milk tea with a focused menu for just that! Finally had the chance to stop by again to check Odd One Out **out** after seeing their accolades/awards from prior. Parking: in the same plaza at Artelice Patisserie, Alfred's... that being said actual "free" parking (aka free 15 minute parking in a small outer lot) is limited so you might want to try to metered parking and/or paid lot. Ambiance: small shop with limited seating for people to wait for drinks so better for a pick up and go situation as opposed to a sit down and chill setting Drinks: I got one of their top/recommended drinks aka the iron Buddha with signature silk boba with "perfect" level of sugar (50%). The texture of the silk boba was really unique -- definitely "silky" smooth, almost like a cross between mochi + jelly?!?!! Very hard to describe but very satisfying to chew although if you're more a firm QQ texture boba person this may not be for you. The taste of the milk was not too overpowering to the subtle aroma of the tea and I honestly thought the level of sweetness created the perfect balance amongst all the drink's components!

Yuzu osmanthus silk boba, calamansi shiso silk boba
Amber S.

Ordered the calamansi shiso silk boba and yuzu osmanthus silk boba through Uber Eats. I definitely enjoyed the yuzu more, but I think that's just because I felt the calamansi drink reminded me of orange juice. The silk boba is a really interesting concept, though I wish the flavor was a bit stronger! Overall, I still feel like this place is a bit pricey but worth trying for some of their more unique drinks.

Every time I'm in Sawtelle, I have to stop by here for a drink. You just can't go wrong with any of their drinks. Their silk boba is also unique and more of a jelly texture. I tried their shiso boba this time which was lovely too. It's a subtle taste of shiso, so not overwhelming.

Stopped in to get one of their matcha drinks to go, taste is fantastic! Quick and proper drink! Nice quick service! Cool interior too!

Odd One Out is one of boba chains from Taiwan. They have won 1st places in Taiwan Milk Tea Festival (Champion Milk Tea in 2022 and Golden Buddha Silk Boba in 2023) and their Icy Peak Oolong Tea received a Superior Taste Award by Brussels International Taste Institute in 2023 (the same recognition that Chicha San Chen also received and claimed to be the Michelin Star equivalent). Currently they have 4 locations: Sawtelle, Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade, Pasadena, and Koreatown. [Parking]: Fairly difficult to find parking in Sawtelle. Street parking only or some visitors choose to park at Marshalls (enter license plate into their machine for free validation), but apparently the shop validates up to 30 minutes for the underground parking lot attached to this plaza. [Atmosphere]: Visitors can smell tea aroma the moment they walk in. No indoor tables, so this is more of grab-and-go spot. [Menu]: Per the website, these are the six highlighted drinks: * Champion Milk Tea (Milk Tea Festival 2022 Gold) * Golden Buddha Silk Boba (Milk Tea Festival 2023 Gold) * Red Oolong Tea (ITCE 2022 Platinum) * Icy Peak Oolong Tea (International Taste Institute) * Cousin Earl Grey (The Great Taste Award) * Yuzu Osmanthus with Silk Boba (Los Angeles Fan Favorite) *** TW 22' Champion Milk Tea (Best Seller and Winner of the 2022 Taiwan Milk Tea Festival Red Oolong Milk Tea made with Fresh Organic Milk and Handcrafted Cane - $7.50): Regular sweetness was just right because anything less than regular sweetness will probably taste too watery. The drink quality was more in-line with drinks from Chagee. *** Not sure I would drive out of the way for this milk tea shop, but I can certainly see some appeal.

People are waiting in long lines at Chicha Sen in the same plaza and those who are in the know, know that Oddoneout is just as good when it comes to milk teas. The texture of the silk boba is my favorite and is extremely unique. I'm personally not a fan of their coconut boba. The yuzu drinks are refreshing. I consider Oddoneout and Chicha Sen in S-tier categories for tea shops. I like this location because they made their drinks super quick which I appreciate.

Catherine Z.

I could see why this place is notable for their award winning milk tea. The champion milk tea is absolutely phenomenal especially paired with their jasmine jelly (which tastes like soft mochi with a slight jasmine flavor). No wait on a Saturday evening and great service. Will definitely be returning when I am in the LA region

Champion milk tea with boba

Sawtelle has plenty of tea options, usually multiple per block! I had to try Odd One Out, with the awards it has won. I got the Champion Milk Tea with brown sugar boba. Fantastic tea, with superb smooth tea flavor and pleasantly mixed between creamy and sweet. The brown sugar boba is alright, and my friends who got the jasmine silk (with their Golden Buddha Silk bobas) say that theirs were really great. I'll have to try it next time. The store is very much designed for grab and go with some area for waiting to grab your drinks and not much else. Interior is bright, clean, with the menus are above the ordering counter. Service was great, and the staff were kind enough to help with recommendations for my party as there wasn't anyone else there on a Monday afternoon. I liked the fact that there's a "5 piece ice" option available if you want a chilled drink but hate how the tea tastes after it is watered down too much. Oat/almond milk is available.

wintermelon lemon

I know this place is somewhat famous and has won awards - but the wintermelon lemon drink I got was just ok. Everything feels overpriced (some drinks going up to $10, or if you have modifications/add toppings) especially when my drink just a regular size (~16oz). Maybe I should have gone with something more noteworthy, like one of the milk teas. Not much parking in this area aside from the street or the small plaza lots.

*TW 22' Champion Milk Tea with jasmine jelly
Kristy H.

I love odd one out! The champion milk tea is always so good and the quality is consistent. I get it with the jasmine jelly and do 50% or 25% sweetness depending on my mood. Service is quick and there's basically no line if you go later in the day. Also don't forget to try out the samples they have on the side!

They made the drinks but kept them behind the counter without calling the order aloud... finally went to check and found them there - so approach and ask for your drinks. Ordered the Black Sugar Assam - flavor was smooth, it was surprisingly sweet but not overly so (this drink has no sugar level to adjust). Boba were cooked just right and had great chew. I ordered it with less ice as my usual. Also ordered for a friend and didn't realize her drink came without boba so be sure to double check the menu as you order so you get toppings (or not) as you wish. FYI - they have a rewards program, join earn points, and get a birthday drink (discount) too! There's a small seating area inside, quiet music playing, and people working/studying (with a sign to use your indoor voice). Vibe is quiet and chill.

It was clean inside when I went by at 8 PM, not super busy, decent amount of seating/tables. There are a bunch of board games as well so seem like a nice place to drink boba and hang out. I got the creamy jasmine -- it's essentially a jasmine milk tea. The tea flavor is okay, nothing super crazy but nice and floral. Boba has pretty good texture -- not super mushy/overly soft, decent qq.

Also, sometimes in the afternoon, the milk teas aren't available (when it's too late to brew more tea). The matcha here is creamy and earthy yet sweet. Most other matcha places in West LA have watery matcha, so I'm glad the matcha here is better. They use lactose-free milk by default. The shop is small and there is no seating inside. There are just two large tables outside, so you'll likely need to sit around strangers. Service is good, but a bit slow because of how small the store is. Keep an eye out for good deals!! They often have special promos that are great value. During promos the lines can be long, but they're still worth it in my opinion.

The matcha cream was smooth, flavorful, and not too bitter nor dry. Good quality. The sweetness and smooth texture of the coconut water was refreshing and provided just the right amount of sweetness. The two components combined was super satisfying. I also liked that it functioned as a fresh dessert with fresh coconut chunks that you can scoop and eat with a spoon. They also gave me a cup of the coconut water used which was also sweet and refreshing. The barista was also super nice and you can tell that he enjoyed his job and interacting with the customers. Parking is street parking. This experience blew my expectations! I would love to come back and try their other drinks.
