I really liked trying this place when I was at Smorgasburg and finally got to visit this physical location while I was in the area. I just wished they would open a location in the SGV so I didn't have to go all the way out here for this! I previously tried their coconut cold brew at Smorgasburg and it was my savior on a hot day. This time I went for the blue matcha. It's got a nice earthy taste to it. My boyfriend had the yuzu osmanthus, which I really liked the floral taste of it. I appreciate this place doesn't go heavy on the sugar either, with their default being 50%. It's not very sweet so it lets the other ingredients truly stand out. I've seen this place on Instagram a lot, but getting to Sawtelle is a hike that involves parking not for the faint of heart, so it wasn't until a trip to UCLA that finally convinced me to stop by. The menu is a bit confusing, with a lot of names that really don't give a whole lot of indication for what the order involves, so I asked lots of questions about the tea and the differences between drinks. The bobarista was super knowledgeable and thoughtful with his answers! We ordered a champion milk tea with jasmine silk boba (50% sugar and 5 pieces ice) and a signature icy peak (dong ding) with wintermelon silk boba (50% sugar and 5 pieces ice). Their drinks are on the slightly sweeter and pricier side, but the customer service is top-notch and their drinks come out fairly quickly. I preferred the champion slightly more -- despite being the least strong tea out of all of their options, I thought the oolong flavor very much shined through and had a delicate, floral aftertaste. Okay, I honestly did not get the hype about this place the first 2 times I went. But then I decided to try it again because my friend loves it, and I actually REALLY enjoyed it. I think I was ordering the wrong thing at the beginning? I first got the Jasmine MT and thought it tasted watered down and then the Yuzu Osmanthus and I just wasn't a fan of the flavor. I then went again for the 3rd time and ordered the Signature Icy Peak with oat milk and jasmine boba. I came here due to curiosity to try the award winning milk tea. Parking is street parking and we got lucky to find a spot right in front. We were glad it was not busy because each drink is made to order so the wait can be long. The staff was nice and answered all of my questions. They gave me samples of the champion milk tea, wintermelon silk boba, and jasmine silk boba. I thought the champion milk tea was ok. I really like the wintermelon silk boba and jasmine silk boba. They are both slightly sweet and chewy, and really unique, very similar to aiyu jelly. The jasmine silk boba is less sweet and more fragrant than the wintermelon silk boba. The champion milk tea is the winner of the 2022 taiwan milk tea festival and the signature icy peak is the winner of the 2023 international taste institute. The champion milk tea is red oolong tea, signature icy peak is icy peak tea, and the everyday oddinary is black tea. I believe icy peak is a type of oolong tea which I never heard of and was tempting to try. However, since I love jasmine tea, I decided to order the jasmine green milk tea with jasmine silk boba. For some reason, silk boba tasted so much better alone than as part of the drink. It was kind of slimy and chewy, but not bad. The jasmine tea was good but nothing special. I saw Odd One Out Tea on social media and then decided to stop by while I was in the area. They've come straight from Taiwan so it will be a little different from what some people may be used to from boba from here. I believe teas are brewed to order from what I saw, it definitely tastes very loose leaf tea and quality focused which I appreciated. I absolutely love high quality teas, but for milk teas, you need to understand that the flavor won't be as strong as using powdered tea and a non-dairy creamer. I personally wasn't a big fan of the flavors in my jasmine milk tea, nor the silk boba, but I wanted to try it as it's a specialty. However, I am not really a jelly person. I think it's a super cool concept and I appreciated the samples. My sister absolutely loved her drink and the silk boba, so I will say it's for some more than others. My mom originally didn't order the silk boba but decided after trying our drinks that she wanted it. I understand this can be frustrating because I work at a boba shop myself but I told the server I would pay for it and get it on the side if that's easier. One of the best bobas I've had in the US! OOO Tea is a unique boba shop that has some options that I haven't seen before. We got the Champion Milk Tea and the Signature Silk Boba. The Champion Milk Tea is an aromatic oolong tea that tastes very floral and is not bitter like many of the oolong teas out there. It pairs really well with the cream foam and tastes very smooth. The Signature Silk Boba has the Icy Peak which is a roasted oolong tea and has a smokier taste. It is also really fragrant and floral. It comes with the silk boba which is kind of like a mix between grass jelly and boba. Great texture and addicting. The service is also really good and they talk you through the menu and the sweetness levels. I would recommend getting everything at perfect sugar, which is 50%. The first time I went here I got the regular jasmine green milk tea to try them out because the prices for their drinks are pretty steep, but it was really disappointing as I didn't taste tea and it wasn't sweet in the drink at all, essentially it felt like watered down milk. A few months later which was recently, I gave them a second try to actually order their specialties and it did much better. Prices are still pretty steep given how small the cup is so I still don't feel great about coming here but at least I know whenever I do, they have drinks that won't disappoint me lol. I got the signature icy peak with their special jasmine silk boba and my bf got the coconut cold brew. Both of the drinks I'd say were a solid 8/10. The silk boba is a little interesting to me though, it's really good but it is essentially a thick chewy jelly rather than "boba". Easier on the jaw than boba and I really liked the flavor regardless. Not my personal fave but worth trying if you like the flavor combos. It did come with this super cute pistachio dog holder though. So coming out to the west side is a bit trickier since I've moved and no longer work in this area, but I will do what I need to do for something that I love... Which is boba and GREAT boba at that. Let's start with the latter - the Blue Matcha drink was good and I enjoyed the lavender aroma that was prominent in the drink, but the matcha didn't wow me (I'll skip this next time...) glad I tried it, though. As someone of Taiwanese descent, I really appreciate their innovative approach towards crafting unique bubble tea drinks, while retaining traditional Taiwanese flavors and tea origins. My favorite drink was their 2022 Taiwan Milk Tea Festival award-winning Champion Milk Tea, which features a full-bodied milk tea derived from red oolong, with a velvety honey profile, complimented with a smooth and creamy milk cap + their signature silk boba. Anytime I'm in LA I always make a stop to Odd One Out, it truly has exceptional and high quality tea from Taiwan! I've been to the location in Taiwan and it tastes exactly the same, so trust that you're getting the best even in LA. The only con is the price point, especially those under odditea but nonetheless worth it. I usually get the Champion Milk Tea with 50% sugar and less ice, I don't love sugary drinks so this is perfect for me. I've also tried the Golden Buddha which comes off more roasted. Their jellies are also super delicious and q, would recommend trying it out. The service is always pretty quick, takes about 5-10 minutes for the drink to be made. There is seating all around the store so you can definitely chill and chat with friends indoors. Parking around the area is all paid street parking. read more

Definitely my favorite boba shop on Sawtelle and I've tried them all. The first time I went into OOO, I just mostly wanted to try something new. I thought the prices were a bit high compared to the other shops in Sawtelle, but when I took my first sip, you can taste the high quality of the tea. Since then, this is the only place I go. I've been to Odd One Out several times now and it is hands down one of the better boba places I've been to. Both their award winning champion milk tea and unique silk boba do not disappoint. The prices are a bit outrageous for their drinks. It's $8 for their champion milk tea plus an extra $1 for any toppings. The least they can provide is a topping included with the price. I understand that their drink won an award, but almost $10 per drink is pretty much a meal at that point. I have been to Chi Cha San Chen where they also have won the same awards for their tea and their drinks are similarly priced. I think an advantage Odd One Out has over Chi Cha is their silk boba. You really cannot get that at any other place. My only complaint is the service at Odd One Out. I've been about 3 times now and every time I've had questions about the teas and their unique tastes. I didn't know until now that you're able to sample their teas and toppings which was never once offered to me as an option by the cashier. What we found interesting is the jasmine silk boba is more like jelly, or at least in jelly form. They were cut into small cubes, easily go up the straw and quite chewy. I've been underwhelmed by a lot of new tea places in the SGV recently. However, I'm still loyal to my BobaPop and YiFang, because they care about their base teas. I'm not a milk tea drinker because I find that most places create tea milks... they are like tea-flavored milks where the dairy overpowers the tea and the tea is barely there like the human decency/respect in today's society. Milk teas that are overly saturated with milk and over sweetened are monstrosities to me. That's more like melted shaved ice in a cup and I'm not about that at all. TEA FIRST!!!! I'm a tea purist so I'm very picky and even find ChiCha 3000's teas taste like tea-flavored water on many occasions. Finding a good tea flavor in their pure tea drinks is just as hard as finding an emotionally available bf on a dating app! I don't care for SunRight, ChiCha, FengCha, WushiLand, Formosa, TheTea, Boba Guys, BoPoMoFo, 7Leaves, Teaspoon, but will drink the OG Half n Half out of nostalgia and maybe Tan-Cha for a dessert-y drink. I would rather drink an iced tea from Starbucks than go to ShareTea and Gongcha so let's not go there. Anyway... I drove all the way from the SGV to WLA on a Saturday. We arrived 10 minutes before opening and were first in line. Prior to ordering, we were given a sample of the Champion milk tea and I was blown away by it even though I generally hate milk teas for the reasons described above. However, this was good. Their fresh cream contrasted synergistically with the red oolong that they use and you can taste the layers of flavors within the tea. There was a fresh dairy taste that is very lively compared to the general dairy or foams in milk teas I've tasted at other places. Their "perfect sweetness" is actually 50% sweetness and I was like WOW.... they aren't trying to hide cooked tea (super bitter) or lovebomb me with a bloodsugar spike. Since we came all the way to try their teas and grab Artelice next door, we ordered 5 beverages. We ordered the Bliss with silk boba, Champion Milktea, Red Oolong tea with silk boba, Juniper Bliss, and Icy Peak Milk teas. All of the teas were different and stood out in their own flavor profiles. I love the Silk Wintermelon Boba that they make in-house. Its consistency is like between boba and grass jelly, but was so good! I went big and I went home happy. Yes, it's not cheap, but I would gladly pay for this quality if they maintain it. If you're complaining about the price, then go to your Sunright so the line can be shorter here and I'll go order more drinks for me. If you are about balanced teas with depth and milk teas with layers of flavor, this is the place to go. IF you want flat milk teas where dairy dominates the drink and look IG pretty, then this isn't the place for you. Keeping a running list of the odditeas and my takes on them (I get all with no sugar if possible and no ice, unless they only offer reduced): Champion Milk Tea- a well done take on an classic milk foam tea, the tea flavor is potent and the milk foam makes you reminisce a little of thai tea but way less sugary and much more tea-like. Need to Add toppings (boba) if you want it with this one. Juniper Bliss- loved the jelly topping, very refreshing. Probably not my style overall but well done for folks who enjoy fruity teas Grapefruit oolong- handsdown my favorite. The amount of real grapefruit they use is perfect (please dont reduce the amount) and you get the perfect pulp to sip ratio. The grapefruit bitterness perfectly accented the oolong, making it addicting. So far I've tried the: 1. Barley milk tea with silk boba - the silk boba isn't my favorite. The barley milk tea is nice 2. Hot Champion Milk tea - honestly, it was nothing special and the tea quality doesn't compare to my favorite boba spot (Formosa Aroma) There's no seating inside other than an area for waiting. There's no wifi or restrooms for customers and there's no parking lot, only street parking. Odd one out was on my list for a long time because of all the social media attention but after trying it twice, I don't really get the hype. read more
