Man, what a huge disapointment. We were scouring around for some vittles a couple of friday nights ago and a friend calls us up and says he getting trashed as Ohana. We inqure about the food and he says theres sushi and spam and all sorts of things in between. Ok, we bite. When we get there, my friend is well on his way to facedownness, so we order drinks thinking that they must be cheap as hell-- wrong. We accept that--its a downtown bar. So onto the menu-- it looks good, but nothing is really standing out-- nothing screaming-- the sushi looks good, but expensive--because you never eat just one roll. I end up ordering the mahi-mahi large size and get excited-- and i also throw in two pieces of yellowtail, just so that i have at least tried the sushi.... The yellowtail was fine, albeit two tiny pieces, but it was nice and buttery. The Mahi-Mahi on the other hand, was just terrible. The worst piece of fish I have had in quite some time-- bland, flavorless hunks of fish drowing in teriyaki sauce, served on a plate of overly saturated Yakisoba Noodles with Teriyaki sauce-- sticky and sickening-- and I love the yaki, both noodles and sauce--but this was just pigswill. However, others did have other things, such as a spam sushi roll--total hawaii, and the chicken katsu, which was nice--but like my buddy said, "I could get this same dish anywhere else for 7 bucks, not 11. Let me start by saying, I am what my friends would consider the slightly forgetful one and am never entrusted with such things as concert tickets (especially after this night). We get to Ohana from Ballard (by bus mind you) and hour before a concert (Macklemore!) at the Paramount. Once seated I realize, go figure, I have forgotten the concert tickets. The server at Ohana was SO nice and felt SO bad for us he let us print our tickets in the back room AND gave us BLUE. I have no idea what BLUE is, some sort of amazing alcoholic concoction that's $4. As our server put it, "you don't like BLUE, you like $4", true enough. When my girlfriend comes in town, she always want to come here. It's one of the few places that serves loco moco. Pros: - A combination of Japaneses and Hawaiian dishes that allows you to select from a variety of entrees. - The quality of food that comes out is pretty satisfying. Haven't had any complains so far. - Love their selections of sushi rolls and sashimi is pretty fresh. Cons: - Slightly slow service. This was one of my regular watering holes when I lived in Seattle and enjoyed the laidback atmosphere that many tiki bars offer. The bartenders were gracious and down to earth...very easy to chat with, unlike the ones at other bars nearby. I love this place! I had a fairly large size group for my birthday party here a couple weeks ago. I wanted to celebrate my birthday in a fun tropical restaurant to escape the cold November NW. Ohana was the perfect place for this. The staff was very friendly and efficient (the waitress was totally on top of things and even split the checks!). I am extremely disappointed in the place. Loved the whole idea of the place, and loved the Hawaiian décor. We went Saturday around 4ish, so the place was pretty empty. As there were only 2 other tables with people, I thought we should have had better service than we were given. It took about 10 minutes just to get some water. The waiter finally took our order and again we waited. We sat right next to the guy making the sushi, and we saw him make it and place it for the waiter to bring it to our table. It sat there for a good while. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which came out cold and really didn't have any flavor at all. Very disappointed. My husband who loves sushi, was not impressed by the rolls. They completely fell apart when he ate them (which good sushi should not do) and he said that it was just mediocre. We asked for refills on our drinks multiple and never received them. Then time for the bill. The waiter dropped it off and then returned to pick it up. Then he came back over and asked where we put the bill?! Umm... I didn't respond and he proceeded with, "Oh did the other waiter take it?" I responded with, "No, I think you picked it up." He replied with, "No I didn't." Okay, well he did and then somehow he miraculously found it. I would not recommend this place. It was overpriced (good thing we had a Groupon), the food was not good, and the service really lacked. This place did not live up to my expectations at all! I attended college in Hawaii and was super excited to get some Hawaiian food in Seattle. The decorations were really cool, but they totally ruined the island vibe by playing amy winehouse. My friend ordered spicy fried rice, which we were told was pre-made. I found it pretty disappointing that a "Hawaiian" restaurant isn't even making their own fresh fried rice. It did not live up to our expectation of spicy and tasted like it was days old! She also paid $1.25 for a fried egg on top which was over cooked and didn't have any runny yolk. I got the chicken Katsu which was okay minus the bizzare sauce. Came here off a recommendation from a friend and with a Groupon. So, they have 2 menus in one - a sushi menu and a regular food menu. We decided to go with sushi for the night. We ordered the Yosh's Pupu Platter which was actually pretty decent. It came with a nice variety of dishes and didn't fill you up completely before the meal. We also ordered the Poke and Chips which was actually small bits of chopped up ahi and salmon mixed together. We were expecting it to be all salmon but maybe that's just what we are used to getting. The fish didn't seem very fresh and if you've had good poke in the past, I would not recommend this dish. Next we ordered the Crunchy Dynamite Roll and the Red Dragon. The Crunchy Dynamite was pretty okay, my only complaint being that the fried coconut outside was extra chewy and took some time to eat; the sauce it came with though was good. The Red Dragon was okay though not as spicy as we expected; it also was very mushy (including the spicy tuna) and the roll itself wasnt as firm as you would expect. That being said, if you have never had great Grade A sushi before, then this place is actually really good at making some decent sushi. If you have had great Grade A sushi, this place may leave you feeling very disappointed with what you are getting. read more

Ohana was better than what we expected, got deal off groupon 30 for 50 worth and we ended up paying extra 20 for 2 people. The sushi was delicious (Salmon box and dragon roll) sushi chief was nice and offered us 2 free extra Otoro belly sushi because we were polite :P very friendly staff, definitely over worked though, it was like 2 waitress serving full house. they had a Band playing that night and it was packed. Environment isn't upscale but that's not what we were after, it's all about the food and atmosphere was relaxing. Definitely a good spot to check out. Their food is amazing and there's no way you won't find something you've never tried, the menu is one of the most varied you'll find. We wanted to like this place because the menu looked like home. The food was a little off but mostly okay. We didn't get to try everything we wanted because the waiter ruined the vibe. He never spent more than five seconds with us, and with each curt interaction he seemed most interested in getting us out the door (Can I clear your plates? Can I clear your plates? We had barely been there for a half hour and just as we were about to order more drinks and food he "reminds" (tells, as this was the most time he had spent talking to us during the whole night) us that we can't stay at a table for more than two hours. We've never been to a restaurant so hasty and calculating (if you're not ordering something right this second, you are worth nothing to us); it's so ironic for what's supposed to be a Hawaiian restaurant. We then walked over to a favorite Italian pizza bar, which was much more relaxed and mindful (the waitress even made conversation!). If you are looking for the island vibe, you are better off going someplace else or staying home and making your own Mai Tais. YEARS. i never once came here during college or even my frequent visits back to Seattle. well, i finally had a chance to check this place out! during normal hours, though... i'll be truthful. i wasn't impressed by the menu. i was really expecting a vast menu of comforting home-style Hawaiian dishes-- but it was mostly sushi, chicken fingers and oh! Loco Moco. at least there was Spam Musubi? i wish i came here during Happy Hour. i didn't drink a drop of alcohol, i was joined by 4 children and their parents, my best friends. maybe i didn't get wasted and have a cheap meal or cheap/fun drinks... but it was quite enjoyable being here with a family. the servers provided cute shell necklaces, coloring sheets and crayons. it was all very sweet and nice. i really enjoyed the service. some of our food arrive later than others- we were gifted with complimentary sodas for the wait. again, sweet. the chicken katsu with mac salad was good- but the katsu sauce was too salty and intense. the Loco Moco was bland and very boring. i vow to come here with no children in tow (love you, though!!!!) and try out Ohana's as all my friends describe it as their FAVORITE happy hour spot. i'll give it a whirl. read more

Worst sushi I have ever eaten in Seattle. The rolls were very small for the hefty price tag. The baked rolls we ordered were charred, cold, rubbery and tasteless. We ordered 5 rolls and all of them were disappointing. We noticed most of the people ordered from the grill and not the sushi bar. That should have been a clue. This is a fun place for happy hour. We were craving musubi and it was really good! The sushi was good as well, not sure why there are bad reviews about the sushi, but it was fine to me (considering it was happy hour sushi prices at a hawaiian-themed bar, not an upscale sushi place). normally I post positive reviews. while I think the food and drinks at Ohana are delicious and the atmosphere is fun, I have one major issue. Premium cocktails I ordered the last 2 times I was in came with no garnish. this may not seem like a big deal, but it really is. Ohana is a Tiki Bar. They have specialty cocktail that cost $9.75. they are pictured on the drink menu with umbrellas and 2, 3 and 4 kinds of fruit on them. The garnish is very much part of the drink. when you order a $10 drink, you expect an experience. My drinks came tasting good but lacking any garnish of any kind. I don't know if the bartender does the garnish or if the server adds it when she picks it up, but there was only 10 people in the establishment and the server only Showed her face once every 30 minutes or so and my drinks were naked. Thinking the manager or owner needs to experience how the staff operates late on Sunday evenings. read more
