Three words for this place: Kimchi Fried Rice. Yes they have kimchi at a Japanese restaurant. Strange that my favorite item at a Japanese restaurant is a Korean based dish. Not to say that the sushi or other items on the menu are bad. Was introduced to this place a few months ago by a couple of friends. I was skeptical at first since this place had a sister site in Suffolk, which I thought was alright. After sampling a bunch of sushi (Scorpion Roll, Ohmigod Roll) and Kimchi fried rice during my first trip I was hooked. Not to mention that my finicky daughter also loved the Kimchi fried rice. Service was attentive and friendly. This is definitely my new sushi/japanese food/kimchi fried rice hangout. Also try their Apple flavored sake. Delish! NOTE: As of 8/2010 the Suffolk location does not serve the Kimchi Fried Rice, Ohmigod Roll or the Ariel Roll. They really need too since I live nearby. read more

This place is hands down the best sushi place to eat in Hampton roads. I have never had a bad meal or experience. Great menu if you do not like sushi and same for if you do. Staff is great, friendly, and attentive. Every time we have family in town we take them there. I am so sad they have been closed down and hope they reopen. First time here! I used a Restaurants.com voucher and they took it no problem. We drive from Norfolk and their rolls are reasonably priced! Quality is good. The amount of meat (shrimp tempura and crab) was a little small on all the 6 rolls we ordered but overall our food was tasty! We loved the TIGER roll!! We have the Boston, Alaska, Scorpian, Christmas tree, and the Tiger! Our bill was about $60 for two people. Service took a bit longer than normal the restaurant was busy and all tables were occupied. We will probably be coming here more even if it's a little drive to Chesapeake from the Ghent area! Yummy sushi and they have Habichi and grilled food which looked really good. It was OK. One thing all sushi restaurants can learn from this joint is how to put together a menu! This was fantastic. They had pictures next to every item on the menu. Service was good, and quick, but the food was just so/so. We had the tiger roll(which was one of the signature rolls) and it was pretty good, but the other two were just loaded with sauce, and not very fresh tasting. We also had the seaweed salad which is hard to mess up. It was good. I would probably give this place another shot, but not anytime soon. I'd like to try some other local sushi places first, that's for sure. read more

While this place may be the most classy sushi restaurant in town it does lack in affordability. Other than that, soup is amazing and the sushi is great. The chef will make drawings in sauce on your plate. Every time! That isn't just for show here or on the website. Enjoyed my visit. read more

My husband and I came here after catching a late flight into Norfolk that was delayed even later. It was Maundy Thursday and everywhere seemed deserted. We cruised the strip mall with the aid of Yelp, which told us that Oishi Sushi was highly recommended but closed at 10:00 pm, and we were 13 minutes too late. Yet as we drove by, the garish neon sign was still blazing, so even though there was only one car in the parking lot, we figured, what the heck? IT WAS AN EASTER MIRACLE. The door was still open, and I peeked in. The staff told me they were closed, but offered to make something "to go." And so we ordered, a Sushi Deluxe and an extra Tiger Roll. Whether out of generosity or entrepreneurial spirit, three employees stayed another 15 minutes past closing and made our dinner. We ate in the parking lot. It was magical. Just that act of kindness alone would have been enough to warrant a stellar review, but the food would have deserved 5 stars even without it. I've read them all, and the kudos are well-deserved. The sushi was superb, hands down. Whenever passing through town, we will be back. read more

I come here every so often in fall and winter for the soup. The soup, man! The soup! Get the spicy kimchi seafood soup! Haven't tried the rest of the menu, I think it's nouveau style. We've been trying sushi places in the area looking for a go-to on days when we just don't feel like cooking. This place is not bad, but we most likely will not be back. They use way too much mayonnaise in their sushi rolls and it leaves an after-taste and a greasy coating on your tongue. You cannot truly enjoy the quality of the fish or other ingredients because of the excess sauces. We also ordered the tempura which was under-done. The shrimp and vegetables were completely cooked, but the tempura was white and soft, not golden brown and crispy as tempura should be, and had an almost raw taste to it. Having such a small kitchen in our rental unit, I don't cook much at home anymore, and I recognized the flavor of packet miso that I have at home - quite a disappointment. The service is great, the people are nice, but we're used to amazing sushi on the West coast and Oishi Sushi did not meet our expectations. read more

True enough this establishment has phenomenal food . I can't say the same about the customer service. I placed my order for delivery, everything was a smooth transaction UNTIL I checked my online banking and saw she charged me $10.00 over the amount she initially told me over the phone. So of course as soon as I find this out, I call the restaurant. The woman that took my order gets really defensive, calls me a liar. I could not believe what I was hearing. I have spent a lot of money at this restaurant and for her to argue with a customer, and insult my intelligence has left a bad taste in my mouth. I did not service to be treated this way. I will NEVER go back. Even though this place is closer to me, I will drive 15miles to my old sushi restaurant here I know I was respected and treated with kindness. The Tiger Roll and the OMG Roll are our favorites, but we have never ordered anything here we haven't liked. The staff is very nice! If your food is taking longer than usual, they'll bring out a free appetizer. We've also been surprised with complimentary dessert once. read more

At first we did not feel too warm towards the owner/waitress, but once the ice was broken we fell in love with her. We were seated immediately and she was extremely helpful in assisting us with what to order off the menu, everything which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food was of very good to excellent quality, you can tell that they don't buy cheap ingredients. The only reason that she is not getting a 5 rating is because we went there with a $50 gift card from restaurant.com, she charged taxes and 18% gratuity on top of that which she did not include in the gift card, so we ended coming out of pocket $100 instead of $50 as we had anticipated. all in all great restaurant, great service once you break the ice, but it is not worth going there AT ALL with that STUPID restaurant.com gift certificate, but we thank them for helping us find this gem of a restaurant. Definitely go during lunch time. Good prices for some decent sushi. It's not like South California sushi, but good enough for me. I had the spicy tuna and eel roll, pretty good choice, even though the spicy tuna is not spicy to me. I also had the Katsu bento, pretty good and at a good price, but don't like the California roll at all. I haven't tried their special made sushi, which they have a great deal during lunch, but I'm definitely going back. The waitress I had was really nice and provided good food service. This place is great, my new favorite Sushi spot. The sushi chef is very creative with plate presentation. They have great choices and have pictures of everything on the Sushi menu so if your not sure what you want you can see what it looks like. They menu is so easy to read with description of everything. Its kind of like a Sushi for dummies guide if you will. They waitress is always attentive and one time asked if we would like to try real Wasabi, which was wonderful! We go here as often as we can. read more

My friend and I like to try out different sushi places in our area and this was her choice this time around. We've been a few times to this pace and over all we enjoyed it. Whenever we walk in we are always greeted nicely and usually get to chose where we want to be seated. The waitress is very attentive and fast with getting drinks and taking orders. She'll come and check on you occasionally when it seems you're about to need more. The sushi is really good for the price that it is. They have a great variety of specialty rolls along with traditional and kitchen meals. I've had the tiger which was really good. Depending on what you get the chef may put some art on the dish. Once I got a dolphin while my friend had a tree. It was a nice extra touch. We are definitely going to add this place on our sushi list roster! read more

We decided to leave only because they never offered a menu or a drink. I would have waited for the yummy sushi but I am big on customer service. I will be back though! Haha.
