This is a great cafe that was suggested by a friend. They have a variety of dishes and large servings. Food was generally good - I had the burger with fries. The fries were delicious! One friend had the pork chop meal and the chop was at least 2 inches thick! Another had fried chicken - meh. They also served collard greens and the "pot likker". I don't care for collards that are cooked with sugar so I didn't care for the cup of "likker". Overall, I would return to try other dishes if in the area. It's convenient to the interstate, and right on West Paces Ferry Rd (if you are visiting the Atlanta History Center, one of the many doctors' offices in the area, or the Governor's house is just down the road, too. I came here to try the Brunswick stew, which a coworker recommended. I found it to be a bit dry and did not enjoy the addition of bell peppers. However, I think that the sides and vegetables are very good! I got a pulled pork sandwich, which was ok, but the fries were delicious. I think the mac n cheese and cornbread are very good southern style food. My sister enjoyed her turkey, fried green tomatoes (special) and squash casserole as well. I also loved the blueberry malted milkshake I ordered! There's not a lot of places that you can get malt anymore, and I've never had a blueberry milkshake. I could tell that it was made with real frozen blueberries because there were some yummy bits in the shake, and it didn't have an artificial taste. My sister also enjoyed her chocolate malt. The menu is extensive, with lots of salads and desserts as well, so I feel there is something for everyone here. They also mention on the back of the menu their standards of fresh food and transparency with what kind of products they use, which I appreciate. I would come back for southern style food. The service and the ambiance are great! The food however is a little uneven. Some dishes were outstanding, some were okay and some were almost inedible (too salty). The corn, corn muffin and squash soufflé were delicious. The fried catfish was pretty good. The green beans were too salty and the hush puppies were underwhelming. Been going to OK for decades... one major issue is this.... they use TOO much salt - i believe they could cut the salt in all of their recipes buy 20% and no one would complain... remember, there is salt on the table... but just way way too much salt. read more

This is by far my absolute favorite cafe/diner in Atlanta. I love that the service is fast and the waitresses are sweet and they dress like little nurses. It feels like home. And the menu is extensive. You can ask for a little or a lot. When I don't have time I go the the carry out section which is kept clean and well stocked. This used to be my spot when I wanted good ole country fried steak. I used to think the blue plate special at $16 was high. However, I like CFS, so I would let them get a pass. Now, this same plate runs about $19. Now that in itself is not a bad thing as I realize food cost has rose. But also the quality of this dish has gone down. Now, while it appears to be a huge piece of CFS,it's actually a very thin piece of meat with a lot of batter,IMO. The sides were great. The collards still taste as good as ever, and so did the black-eyed peas. I even ordered some of their pimento cheese and cracks,which, by the way, is fantastic. The service hasn't changed. The wait staff is still great and attentive. I guess I was just sorely disappointed at what one of my favorite meals has become. I will definitely come back ,but sadly, I think I will move on from getting CFS. Still a great place and still highly recommended, giving them a try. I have passed this restaurant a million times and never had as desire to check it out. However, my beau wanted to dine on some home cooked food and this girl was not in the mood to be cooking! After a quick Google search I found this place! We parked at the back of this restaurant which is the to go area that includes a bar that is priced by the pound. We had to walk through the restaurant to be seated. We were quickly seated at a window table for two. Our server came over promptly. She lacked a personality but she got her job done. I ordered a veggie plate, and the boo ordered a pork chop plate. The food took a while to come out. I don't understand why restaurants pretend to cook food to order. Let's be real, the sides and bread are not made to order. It is possible that the pork chop was made to order but still no reason for the extended wait time. The food actually tastes pretty good. I do have to make this statement: this is not your grandmas kind of cooking. The food is somewhat bland, but I like that. I don't like southern cooking loaded with salt. If you need a quick fix for a home cooked meal I would recommend this place. You can take it home and add a little seasoning and it will be perfect! Oh yeah, we actually left without dessert but decided in the car to go back and order a slice of the chocolate cake. Upon initial review we thought it would not be good. This restaurant has a very hometown feel to it. The servers are extremely friendly! I got the coffee which was good. For breakfast I got the ham and cheese omelet with home fries, and a biscuit. The portions are VERY large so keep that in mind. My friend got the biscuits and gravy which is also something I wish I would have gotten. It comes with 2 biscuits and is smothered with gravy sausage. This place has a lot of fun and abstract art in it which makes it fun.
