OK Cafe is an Atlanta institution. They are always packed for breakfast on the weekends and busy the rest of the time. Pancakes are fluffy and delicious and the grandkids love them. Burgers are also delicious but we often come here for the meat and two or three. I love the salmon patties and my husband loves the meatloaf. Sides are good (don't miss the squash casserole) and they offer a nice selection. Service is friendly and prompt, and the restaurant itself is so cute. Our family went off to the Kristmarket in Buckhead and wanted to stop off at a different place to eat. originally Houston's was on the list but the wait is infamously long. I know OK Cafe would deliver a great meal at a reasonable price. I was also hoping to run into an old friend I had not seen in quite some time. The food was great, service even better, but no luck this time on seeing my buddy. Started out with a great appetizer of Fried Cheese Grits with a Jalapeno Cheese sauce then the orders came out shortly. i opted for the half rack of the BBQ ribs. the meat was tender and saucy. my SO ordered the chicken Pot Pie which remains true to its homage. carrots celery onions and peas with a topping of puff pastry, our two other guests ordered the same thing...When will kids learn... sigh... a cheeseburger with fries. i have always appreciated coming here for what its meant to be. an upscale diner that is not a greasy spoon but with all the greasy foods that has the proper attention and cooking techniques drawn into it. I love griddle cakes! Therefore, I knew I had to have their delicious griddle cake with Granny Smith Apples and Pecans. Our waitress was lovely and helpful as she suggested one griddle cake was a meal all on it's own! She was right! BTW you can order 1, 2, or 3 when you order them. The eggs, grits, bacon, sausage patties and biscuits are wonderful! The coffee was hot and stayed full. I ordered the French toast and it was awful. It's deep fried and so greasy, tasted burnt and the egg mixture inside was like wet scrambled eggs the waitress was kind enough to remove it from our ticket. Now that the USA is an oligarchy over democracy everything is sky high. Sadly, this business has been affected by that. I was intrigued by this place. For someone that lives on the other side of town, this is quite an experience. The crowd was very interesting. Great people watching... The food was so-so, but good. I wouldn't recommend the salmon croquettes. They are soft (mayo-like) in the middle and I am used to a different type of salmon patty that is made with egg and more cooked-through. It's just personal taste. The best part was the architecture and decor of the place... I don't know the era ... i supposed it might be mid-century modern. Beautiful woodwork and just as an example, there were lovely wall dividers made from stained glass rectangles and the curtains were made from cloth that mimicked the stained glass. This is a great cafe that was suggested by a friend. They have a variety of dishes and large servings. Food was generally good - I had the burger with fries. The fries were delicious! One friend had the pork chop meal and the chop was at least 2 inches thick! Another had fried chicken - meh. They also served collard greens and the "pot likker". I don't care for collards that are cooked with sugar so I didn't care for the cup of "likker". Overall, I would return to try other dishes if in the area. OK Cafe is a great place for good food on the north end of Atlanta. We always try to stop in whenever we are in the neighborhood. It's convenient to the interstate, and right on West Paces Ferry Rd (if you are visiting the Atlanta History Center, one of the many doctors' offices in the area, or the Governor's house is just down the road, too. Grabbed a bite to eat here with some friends while I was in town for the weekend. The restaurant is huge but it has a nice, down-home, cozy feel to it. Very friendly staff and very clean and welcoming atmosphere. I wasn't very hungry so I only ordered some fried okra and I split some wings with my friend. From the outside this is a quaint restaurant . It is a little older looking but do not let this fool. The food inside is excellent. It is home style comfort food with the old diner look. There are great size portions too. My husband got the chicken pot pie, which he said is one of the best he has ever had. He also got the option of 2 side items. I got the turkey and stuffing, loved that they gave me a choice of white or dark meat. Also got dessert the malts are huge- they brought me the malt in an old style dinner milkshake glass and then the extra in the mixer cup that filled the glass a second time then some. I came here to try the Brunswick stew, which a coworker recommended. I found it to be a bit dry and did not enjoy the addition of bell peppers. However, I think that the sides and vegetables are very good! I got a pulled pork sandwich, which was ok, but the fries were delicious. I think the mac n cheese and cornbread are very good southern style food. My sister enjoyed her turkey, fried green tomatoes (special) and squash casserole as well. I also loved the blueberry malted milkshake I ordered! There's not a lot of places that you can get malt anymore, and I've never had a blueberry milkshake. I could tell that it was made with real frozen blueberries because there were some yummy bits in the shake, and it didn't have an artificial taste. My sister also enjoyed her chocolate malt. The menu is extensive, with lots of salads and desserts as well, so I feel there is something for everyone here. They also mention on the back of the menu their standards of fresh food and transparency with what kind of products they use, which I appreciate. I would come back for southern style food. And the diner is cute, with some 50s architectural and interior design elements, and the staff dressed in traditional diner uniforms with their names embroidered.
