Oki Asian Bistro is my favorite restaurant ever! Their food is always amazing! Especially their sushi and hibachi! They have a wide range of Asian dishes and there is something for everyone. My son had been asking to go to a hibachi restaurant since he heard about it from a friend at school. I am so glad we chose OKI Asian Bistro. It is local and always packed. The dinner service from drink orders, food orders to cooking the meal was wonderful. We were even given a complimentary appetizer as a "thank you" for our patience for a minimal wait (there were multiple large parties that night). The chef was entertaining and my son and the rest of our group loved it! The food was great and plentiful and the prices were very reasonable. The waitstaff was more than attentive and fantastic. The worst food we have ever eaten. The lack of customers should have been a giveaway. The green tea was lukewarm, the soup was salty with no flavor, my husband's chicken was rubbery and shaped like chicken feet, my brown rice was rancid, I ordered fried rice which was cooked in old oil that was so bad I still can't get the taste out of my system! People need to be warned not to go there! We spent a total of $71.00, what a rip-off!!! Had to leave our substantial leftovers there as we were so disgusted with the food. read more

We've tried this place for the past 6 months. The food is poor (sushi) to mediocre (pad Thai). Further, 80% of the time they make an error with our order. We'll order roll X and receive Y, ask for soup Z and receive W, and ask for, for instance, brown rice and receive white rice. When we note the error, they appear annoyed. More recently, they made an error, had us wait 20 min to correct, and then - get this - charged us $1.50 or something before we left because what they prepared and charged us for (white rice) was less than what we ordered and initially paid for (brown rice). We had a party of 21 for a birthday. The service was rude and the woman taking the order was practically throwing the food on the table. The guy preparing the hibachi food was fun but we had one with allergies and they made it seem like it was a huge inconvenience for them. Wife and I used to frequent this place, until after today. The food here has been amazing every time. That hasn't changed and isn't the problem. But today the service went too far. There's a sign that clearly posts happy hour specials when you walk in . My wife and I specifically ordered rolls from that list. When we received the bill, we were charged full price! I asked about the specials and why we didn't receive the correct price. The server just looks at the bill and says "Uhhhhh. I can take off on the sweet potato roll." Seriously? I have the picture of the happy hour poster and my bill on my phone. You won't give me happy hour prices, when it's clearly before 5:30 pm (Which is what the sign says)? Clearly you don't care enough about my business, so we won't ever be returning. If you are the owner and you're reading this-your wait staff SUCKS. Part impulse, part curious -- we've stumbled in several times now thanks to Groupon. Though I've only come for dinner, it's often packed. And after speaking to some of the staff, I've learned that most if not all of the clientele comes from LivingSocial and Groupon. So if you plan on using yours, definitely plan on making reservations. Upon first glances, the exterior doesn't leave much to the imagination. After several paint jobs over the years, you can still see hints of what once was. But as several yelpers pointed out, it's refreshingly nice inside. Like many new sushi places cropping up around the state, the inside treads a fine line between trendy and tacky. Though the layout is better than years past, this time around, Oki manages to delicately space out a dining room, hibachi room as well as a bar. Pitched as a Japanese Restaurant, they have an extensive menu selection. Their take-out is mostly Chinese, as are their cuisine/entree choices but they still offer many Japanese choices. As such, I have only eaten the sushi and sashimi here. For their basic rolls, the tuna and salmon rolls are just that, basic. As a good rule of thumb if a 'Japanese' place doesn't have particularly fresh cuts, red flag. For the sashimi, the unagi (freshwater eel) with tara sauce (sweetened, thickened soy sauce) wasn't bad. Really hard to mess up as it often grilled/broiled I was happy that it came out perfect. We also got the ika (squid) sashimi which was surprisingly tender and generously portioned. And for kicks, I saw on the menu that they had toro (fatty tuna, imagine the kobe beef of tuna) Generally served from blue fin tuna, toro is flavorful, succulent and a bit more pricey. After some canoodling, we found out that it was actually chutoro (medium fatty) still very tasty. And for the special rolls we tried the green lobster roll (shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado) and their aptly named sex on beach roll (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber, seared tuna, avocado) Nothing to rave about, the high note was that neither of the special rolls were drowned in sauces, yayy! Sake, some Asian import beers, and several interesting mixed drinks make up for the lack of personality. Though the staff has generally been quick and informative, there were several occasions where we've had some difficulty understanding them and have been sometimes forgotten. More often than not, they make up for it with a complimentary appetizer and house sake (sneaky!). A little on the steep side, I'm not sure if I would come back if it weren't for the Groupon deal. Came here on a Sunday night for some sushi. Immediately upon walking in the door you could tell things would be bad as it took about 8 minutes for someone to even acknowledge us standing there. Got seated by the waiter/host/bus boy/chef who had the personality of a broken chop stick. Took another 6 minutes for someone to acknowledge us at the table. Another 6 to get our order in. Went to OKI for a Father's Day treat for a my 70 year old father in law as he has never had the experience. What a mistake. We made reservations for 630 and after being seated it took 15 minutes to even get a drink order. Well 45 minutes later still no chef and no follow up to our drink order. They only had two chefs and gave the excuse that one chef didn't show up. One chef was brand new and did not even speak. Wow that would have been fun to get him. Ended up getting up and leaving. Had to argue with server to pay for drinks we ordered. Should have walked out. This place will never see my face again. Do your self a favor and go to Sakura instead. I ordered the pineapple and shrimp rice, the presentation was beautiful (it was served in half of a pineapple) but the rice was overcooked. First time at Oki on Wednesday night - very pretty in the hibachi room BUT the atmosphere was more Chucky CHeese. Multiple birthday parties for young children, running around all over the place. One particular child in back of me SCREAMED in total fear every time there were flames or lots of steam rising from the hibachi table. It lasted 45 minutes - it was already 8:00PM, this was not an early dinner. Foodwise: chef used ALOT of margarine/?lard for everything he stirfried - this resulted in a pool of grease at the bottom of my dinner plate. Beware - we also had a coupon they would not honor although we met all the criteria. Our bill for three was $90. They did offer for a gift certificate to return instead and refused to take the Travelzoo coupon. NOT IF YOU PAID ME GUYS - there are for better hibachi restaurants locally. read more

I visited OKI this week with my aunt, mother, and grandmother. I've been before for hibachi (which is a pretty standard hibachi experience.) This time we ate in the dining room. Advice for the wait-staff: Stop hovering. Please. And stop rushing. The waiter was super nice and attentive but as soon as I arrived and sat down he asked what I wanted to drink. Then what I wanted to eat. Hadn't even taken my coat off. I HATE feeling rushed, and since I hadn't seen my family in a while I was frustrated. All 4 of us are in the service industry so we try and be lenient but it was just SO much. I went to go to the bathroom and when I came back my mother told me that she mentioned something to the server about pacing and allowing us to relax. Thanks mom :) After that - it was awesome. Nice sushi, entrees, and drinks. And nice free appetizer, shots, and dessert. I thought maybe they were trying to be nice to us because we were annoyed at first, but they brought everyone in the dining room the same things. They're nice gestures, but totally unnecessary. I'll visit again. But I'll definitely have to tell them to let us relax a little.... it was so much more enjoyable when we did. read more

Mediocre food, horrible service. Waited 5 minutes for a host to appear, waited 15 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order, waited 30 minutes for the first meal to come out, waited an additional 30 minutes for the next two meals to come out (they didn't bring out everyone's food out at the same time), then waited 15 minutes for the fourth meal, and an additional 10 minutes for the fifth and final person in our party to get their food. In other words, by the time everyone in our party had their food, the first meal had already been on the table for almost an hour. I could go on about the faults in the service (brought out the wrong drink order, slow to refill water, waitress didn't speak more than 3 sentences to us the entire evening), but to spare the reader their time, the overall experience was quite bad. We will not be giving Oki our business again. We ordered from both the Japanese and Chinese sections of the menu. A few of the food items were good (Spicy Salmon Roll, California Tempura Roll, and General Tso's Chicken), but everything else was overpriced and subpar. read more

OMG. This is the dirtiest restaurant I have ever been in. The services was horrible and the bartender RUDE. She was swearing loudly in front of customers and when I asked for a fork (for my salad), she scoffed at me and then it took her 7 minutes to bring it to me. The floor was so sticky--I accidentally dropped my umbrella on the floor and I refused to pick it up--I left it there! The bar surface was so disgusting and the bartender would not acknowledge that we (the 6 people sitting at the bar) were waiting for it to be wiped down. This place has great sushi. Flavor was so vivid. Portions were good. Price range is also good. We had a scorpion roll, Boston roll, some sashimi and various nigiris. All very tasty and fresh. Also we tried the Scorpion Bowl for two which would have been more than enough for 3! I wish I could come every week! One word Delicious. The only thing is that the waiter seemed to be in a hurry and was constantly trying to taketaking away our plates even without having us finish the food, this was kind of exasperating. We decided to try a new place for sushi as we moved a little further away from our usual sushi spot. The atmosphere and décor was nice and the service was, while not out of their way friendly- they weren't rude or absent. We ordered waters/soda and got a sake shot on the house. We ordered 5 sushi rolls- boston roll, sex on the beach, spicy tuna, yellow tail and crab mango. Every roll was made with ground fish except the boston roll. This was an EXTREME disappointment. The texture was very weird and we didn't even want to take our left overs home which for us is a very big deal. The boston roll was fine- tasted relatively fresh and was simple but nothing to brag about. The miso soup and sake were the best parts of this experience :-/ Might come back again to try a different part of the menu but as far as sushi goes, we'll be taking the time to drive to Sturbridge. read more

3.5 stars. The ambience could use a little work. It was dark and furnished with inexpensive used furniture. We sat in the restaurant, not the hibachi. All that matters not, if the food is good. We had a few appetizers and nob-sushi dishes. Everything was good. No statandouts. The service was kaotic, but Suprisingly fast a efficient. They seemed to have a fun drink menu, but a poor beer selection. I wish Asian restaurants would realize that most Asian mainstream beers are horrible. We'd go again, but no rush. read more

I went with one other guest for a hibachi dinner. The service was great and prompt, the hibachi chef was engaging and entertaining and a manager checked in to make sure we were satisfied (and even offered us free sake!). There was one minor issue on the bill (very minor...$2) and they fixed it immediately without any trouble. We had the hibachi chicken and the hibachi salmon, both were fantastic and hibachi meals come with both noodles and rice which was a plus. I would definitely recommend it! read more

Great hibachi restaurant . I've been to a lot in the past . If you live around the Vernon area it is just as good as Sakura without having to wait for a table . The workers are very nice and generous. I believe it is the same restaurant that used to be called Top Fuji. I would recommend people that like Sakura but don't want to have to wait for tables or make reservations in advance . I don't think it's not as busy because of the quality but just because a lot of people just don't know it's there and think Sakura when they think hibachi in our area . read more

We love Oki! Every time we have gone we end up getting complimentary food or drinks which is so appreciated. Food is great and staff is very accommodating. We went yesterday and had a reservation for 20 people. 24 of us ended up going and they made sure we could all sit together no problem. At the end of the night they came out with special desserts for us as it was a few of our friends birthdays which was really nice, we weren't expecting it at all. They also have meal packages for large groups and you can't beat the price for the amount of food and drinks it includes! What a wonderful dinner experience! The food was delicious, especially the crispy beef which was slightly spicy leaving a warm glow on the palette and not at all burning. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in all of Connecticut. First time here last summer, my boyfriend and I were very pleased with the customer service. All of the employees are very welcoming, kind, and easy to approach. While waiting for our food, we were brought complimentary appetizers - which were AMAZING. Been several times, and have never been impressed with the hibachi. I feel the servers always rush your drink/appetizer order before you even get a chance to look at the menu (and by the sound of it, the staff has their own issues with each other, because my friends and I have heard/seen them in yelling/screaming matches on a couple occasions). But anyways, I've ordered steak, filet mignon, chicken, and scallops, and they all have been bland in taste (the soup was ok, the salad was good, and the vegetables, rice and noodles were pretty good). The last few times, I've ordered the General Tao's chicken, and that was excellent. But the last few times, we've all agreed that the food/experience isn't worth the price to pay at Oki Bistro, and we've taken our hibachi nights out elsewhere. read more
