Came here with my boyfriend STARVING and this place definitely delivered. We got the shrimp dumpling soup and the portion was great and the soup was delicious. We then got the California tempura which was really good with the spicy mayo sauce, spicy crab meat and spicy tuna. Everything was delicious and the portions were enough to take home. I haven't tried the hibachi, but their sushi is the absolute best. It is the freshest sushi I've ever had! All of their original rolls are delicious and more unique than other places. Their classic rolls are also great. I've been to all of the sushi restaurants within 10 miles of Oki and this is by far my favorite. Not too expensive either! I had the pleasure of going to OKI and sitting down for lunch with my BF, and not just ordering takeout for lunch which is what I normally do. And boy were we both in heaven. I of course got the Shrimp tempura as I usually do and a few sushi rolls that were super delicious, and he had the chicken tempura which he devoured!! I loved how attentive our waiter was and how fresh all of the food was including those sushi rolls which I'm having pregnancy brain and cant remember what they were. If you are driving by this place and think, "this place looks like a dump" that's because it is. We went to lunch on a Sunday and were pretty disappointed. It must be worse in the daylight, but the floors were filthy, the booths ripped, menus were stained, and the ceiling falling apart. We tried a few sushi rolls and were very underwhelmed, so decided to only try cooked food. While the food was fine, I couldn't get over the fact I had to show away flies the entire meal. My boyfriend and I had previous experience with ordering takeout from this place. We were not satisfied with the takeout. However, we decided to try dining in at this restaurant and it was much better than we expected. The hostesses were ok but our waitress was so great and kind and the food was great as well. This was my worst experience at a hibachi hands down. Reservation was made a week ago for a party of 27 for 730p. The whole party was here by 7p but we were not seated until 9p! Talked to the owner a number of times about it with no result. First she said we could all get 20% off when we had waited an hour and after 2 hrs waiting she told the bday girl 50% off. Well when we were going to pay the story changed and she offered 30% instead of the 50% that was promised. After going back and forth for a while everyone just paid and left promising to NEVER visit the establishment again. The waiters were good but the owner and the bartender were horrendous. Definitely don't make any big party reservations with Oki since they don't honor them and them making it right is to flop on their word. read more

Made 7pm reservations. Got there at 7 ... no table. Two girls at the front rolling their eyes and popping gum. Woman came over who spoke zero English and said 10 minutes (I think). Sat at the bar and the bartender poured 2 good drinks. 40 minutes later they had a seat. Ordered one hibachi filet meal and one other meal. Waitress forgot to put the other meal into the system, then said it's coming (I think) came out as we were done with the hibachi, it was too spicy and nasty. So I was apprehensive to try this restaurant based on some of the other reviews, but after trying it last night I'd say it's just got a bad rap!! I would definitely recommend this hibachi restaurant. My one and only complaint was the same as a few other people had said, the young girls at the host stand. Very unprofessional. Otherwise our server was lovely and the man that cooked hibachi for us was wonderful! The food was fresh and cooked very well. We both got filet and chicken combos. The meats were clean (no fat or anything that needed to be trimmed) and fresh looking. I wish it were a little busier but I think more people just need to try this hidden gem. We have been many times. They have the best General Tso & Chicken & Broccoli we have ever had outside of Chinatown. They do not have wonton soup or any great Chinese apps the meat on a stick was nasty, But the rock shrimp tempura is excellent. In house service was good, but they screwed up our take out orders 3 times now. I wish the above was not so good so I could wright them off but we like them. I've been to a lot of restaurants, but this is the first time I liked a place so much I wanted to make sure I review them (that and I want them to stay in business - it's a fairly new place). The wife and I are big sushi (or maki, to be more precise) affecionados and have tried almost every sushi restaurant we've come across. She's from Toronto and they have a lot of places you could visit. So it's hard to imagine that this place in Vernon would be our favorite of all, but it's true. We found it on Groupon one night we were craving some sushi and we keep coming back! It's my wife's absolute favorite place - I rate it second after Higashi in South Windsor, but that place is way pricier. Granted, we haven't really tried anything aside from the rolls with exception of seaweed salad and miso soup, which are good. But the rolls are the best you can get for the price. The spicy salmon is to die for, the shiitake mushroom roll is awesome, and from the specialties - try the Kirin roll - gotta be our all time favorite! We've never come at a busy time (it's always empty around 8-9pm on a weekday), so the service has always been solid. My tea cup always got filled right away, which is a #1 must have service in a sushi restaurant, imho. The waiters are personable and efficient. Location-wise it's nothing special, so we pretty much only come to Vernon for this place, but it's well worth the drive. Bottom line - this is an awesome place, one of the best in the area. I see some reviews complaining about hibachi - I wouldn't know, we haven't tried. But do try their sushi! Well worth it! read more

Every time my boyfriend and I go here we get exceptional service. We're sat right away and our drinks and food always come out within minutes. Tonight we got complimentary shots on the house. I love sushi, and I like to try lots of different places in my travels. Before this place opened, I got really worried since the sign spelled 'hibachi' wrong (habachi). Not sure how long they've been open now, but we've been several times, once to celebrate my son's birthday with a large group for hibachi, and several other times just for the sushi. Every time, I've been impressed. The last time, I got sashimi deluxe and I couldn't finish it. Took my son and he got the General Tsao's and an eel roll and couldn't finish his either. The best thing was the bill was under 50.00! The service is great, friendly staff, and the place was packed the last few times and saw several Japanese families eating. It's always a good sign when going to a Japanese restaurant. Definitely recommend this place for the atmosphere, prices and fresh fish! read more

The two sushi we ordered were simple, but neatly presented, and very good. The clear broth miso soup was hot and very flavorful. Our meal came with a small salad that was very fresh with crisp lettuce and a delicious ginger dressing. My wife had the Wor Shu Chicken. She enjoyed it very much. My Spice Beef Curry (Thai Style) was absolutely delicious. It had a nice lemongrass flavor, a bit of spice, lots of thinly sliced veg's, and meat. The only reason why I gave them two stars is because they have excellent sushi happy hour deals and they have a really wonderful online ordering experience. That being said, the second you walk in you are bombarded with tasteless and tacky décor. The food and sushi is sub-par, but what really irks me is the incredibly rude management and staff. They have bee late 30-60 minutes on my pickup orders multiple times and when I informed staff and management of this, everyone laughed and me and walked away with no explanation and no apology. It was so bazar. I eat a lot of food and order large amounts of food, and yet they treat me like they could care less if I was a customer or not. I also have witnessed management disagreeing with diners who received something different than what they ordered. There is no concern for the customer, which makes me nervous that their food cleanliness practices are sub-par as well. Management needs to get their act together because it is a dreadful experience to even set foot in the joint. read more

Here's the breakdown: Staff/Management: outrageously friendly and accomodating. When we've gone in and bought a bunch of sushi, the manager always comes over with complimentary items or packs them up with the to-go orders. They definitely go out of their way to give you a great customer experience. Food: I only order sushi, and that sushi is always delicious. First and foremost, I must say that I would have rather messaged Mr. Tim C. from Oki directly, instead of writing this review, but it appears that Oki did not sign up for "direct to business" message that Yelp claims it provides. So here it goes... We had heard about the party deals so I came in here with a large party. We had 10 people participate in the "Sumurai" (how they spell it) party package, with 2 others in our party doing their own hibachi dinner. Sounds like a fun time. The first problem we experienced was with the service. We had made a reservation for the 12 of us earlier in the day for 7 pm. We arrived mostly individually between 7 and 7:10. We were seated at a particular hibachi table with the remaining seats occupied by another party. When the final members of our party arrived, it became clear that there were not enough places to accommodate everyone, and that the one more that we needed would be set. This "waiting for the last chair" was the first 20 minutes of our time there. Multiple servers asked what the problem was and we told them 3 times. In the end, the extra chair was not provided. Still no drink order. Eventually, our party of 12 was moved to an empty hibachi table. I personally enjoyed this, but others in the party complained that they thought it was odd that we had to move after making a reservation. I didn't mind, because now our party had our own hibachi table. In a way, I think the staff made a good decision here. After being seated, a waitress took drink orders from us. "FINALLY!" we all thought to ourselves. Unfortunately we were wrong. After another 10 minutes of waiting, a male server came to the table and asked for drink orders. Obviously we were slightly confused, but could not communicate that someone else took our drink order. So after another 5 minutes, our "second" drink order was taken. "At least we will get drinks!" we thought... After another 10 minutes, the latest server came back with about 8 drinks, wine and beer. It did seem that he would not have been able to carry all 12 at once. Unfortunately, there were already mistakes... brought an extra Sams that nobody ordered. Instead of taking it back, he put it on the table... More "unlimited beer" I guess? After another 10 minutes, the second half of drinks came out. There was another small mistake, but I don't remember what it was. This is where my party "won" our experience... if you have paid careful attention, you would have noticed that we are now over 40 minutes into our "meal" and we have only just received our first drink. No food order has been taken yet. The two people that organized our outing decided to talk to the manager about the slow service situation. According to them, the management did not really understand what was going on (language barrier), but they asked for free scorpion bowls to make everything better, and we were all indeed provided with individual scorpion bowls. This definitely counteracts my complaints so far. So about an hour into our time there, the food order is finally taken. But of course there is a problem. The menu for our party hibachi packages states a number of meats for the main hibachi meal, including pork. A member of our party requested pork as his main meal and after leaving and coming back, the server said "No pork hibachi". Instead of investigating or arguing, he settled on chicken. Yet another strange minor issue. So eventually a hibachi chef joins us. I wish I could tell you his name, but he did not introduce himself. He does all the normal hibachi stuff, nothing special, but well done. Food was up and down. First course was fresh made fried rice. I thought it was great. Next was fried noodles. To me, way too salty, too much soy sauce. Last was meat, everyone said that came out good. One disappointment was the sauces served with the meal. In my experience with hibachi, I'm used to getting a mustard and a ginger sauce. Instead of mustard, Oki serves some kind of white sauce. It is most certainly half mayonnaise. The other half must be like mustard powder and chilli powder maybe? It was light and color and honestly just tasted like mayo. The ginger sauce was under par as well, very wet in texture and salty in flavor. I must comment about the appetizers in the "Sumurai" aka cheapest party package. You are promised a choice of 3 appetizers and 2 sushi rolls "proportional to the table". What this means is if you have a party of 10, you get basically 3 of each of 3 types of appetizers, with a random 4th thing. And you get two 6 pc rolls, so that everyone gets once piece of something, and there's 2 more pieces. Each person does NOT get one piece of two rolls or of 3 apps. Kinda whack if you ask me. The sushi we got was ok but deserves no commendation. The last complaint I must make is that any time our server came to take a drink order for our table, it ALWAYS, 100% of the time came out wrong. Unfortunately, the reason for the 1 star is because of the service. The food alone would be at least 4 stars, but the way my family and I were treated when we went there recently was just unbearable. We called ahead for a reservation of 11 and asked for the Samurai package deal. Upon arriving, our waiter said that we couldn't get the package deal because we had 11 (10 adults 1 child) and that we needed the more expensive (roughly $7 more per person) package. He did not explain it well at all, kept saying that if we did the Samurai that the child couldn't eat. The menu said 10 people MINIMUM so I was very confused as to why we couldn't get that package. As the night progressed, our waiter was distant and seemed just very annoyed with us. When we asked for more wine he just put the bottle of wine at the hibachi table, no ice bucket and no explanations. He got very annoyed that we asked for ice for the warm wine. Maybe he thought we were waiting for more people but it took roughly an hour and a half for someone to take our food orders (after we had ordered sushi and appetizers), I had to go up and ask for someone to take our order. At one point he asked if I was minding the time (it's a 2 hour special, but regardless...). Also, there was only 2 other hibachi parties there that came and left before us!! It's sad too because we had been there for New Year's Eve, dinners, etc. we were very happy there before, but we will not be returning. Tried for the first time almost 2 years ago when my daughter want ed to try because she had Groupon. Been back many times since {without groupon) and every time was terrific. Prices better than Sakura and what the restaurant lacks in ambiance it makes up for in food and service, which is why you go out in the first place. Last night we brought another couple who hadn't been before and couldn't have had a better time! Waiter (Justin) was funny and provided great service and suggestions. On top of the Dancing Tuna (or as I ordered it: Dancing Tina) and 3 Musketeer rolls, my wife and I shared an order of Shrimp Fried rice. Not the usual baby shrimp found in fried rice, but the size usually found in a scampi appetizer. I'm picky about fried rice , and have to order it there every time as a side dish! Our friends liked the food so much, they were going to try to make it back there today with their kids. We also enjoyed their Miso soup, Sake, and Banana Tampura for dessert. Our friend liked the look of my Dancing Tuna roll so much, he added another roll to his order half way through dinner. Great sushi, great company and a couple of tall Sapporo beers, and watermelon martini's for the lady's. What else do you need! Thanks again!! read more

Probably the worst customer service I've had in a VERY long time . Arrived just before 6pm and we didn't have a cook show up for hibachi till 729!!!! Waitress took order brought soup and never came back ( not even to pick up empty soup bowl ) after 45 min / hour of waiting I went to front desk area and asked to speak to a manger who informed me they had one cook and as soon as he was done with other table he'd be over to cook for us . If it was over an hour wait we should have been told than upon seating and or not have been seated ! When cook was done at table next to us it was another 20 min and another visit to manager before he came out to cook . Now as a manager if I knew a table was already upset for waiting so long and Esp knowing only 2 tables were in the entire restaurant I would have had the food already set up and ready to brought and cooked table side .chef dropped EVERYTHING including his spatula he intended to cook with ( gross ) there was no hibachi " show " no saki , no egg toss into hat, no try to catch food ... no entertainment after 3 young children sat patiently waiting over an hour and a half ... instead we got undercooked cheery and raw shrimp and chicken , well done burnt steak and over seasoned rice ( prob cause the spice jar was yet another thing he dropped while shaking ) then I had to visit the manager AGAIN to ask for bill ( Mind you still no waitress ... soup bowl still on table). No apology for wait , for the awful Service , nothing taken off bill for the raw undercooked food nobody ate ,disgusted by the service . Have always been a frequent patron and in the past they were excellent but the new staff, quality of food and service has steadily declined in the past year and we will never return and suggest you save yourself the food poisoning with raw chicken and go eat at another local area hibachi . Had the most horrible experience last night at this place. My friend wanted sushi; I was not terribly hungry and ordered just an appetizer, so we sat at the bar. To start, the young woman tending was curt and came up to us with "What do you want?" Did not bring a glass for my friend's beer, even after he asked. No silver was brought with the food; I asked for chopsticks for my spring rolls, but no traditional implements were presented; we did ask. Worst of all, the bartender/wait person was assembling fruit parasols for drinks, putting her entire hand into the container of pineapple chunks before putting them on the end of the parasol. Usually it's been fine. Today the server as he took our drink oder he takes away the happy hour menu from our table. It was like he didn't want us to order off it. We had to ask for it back! Normally they charge $0.50 for eel sauce and nothing for spicy mayo. Today it was $1 each! And for avocado added to one roll it was an extra 2$!! When we asked about the cost for the sauce he kept changing his story like he was just making things up. And our bill had a drink added to it we never ordered. We use to come a lot but this was our visit. Way over priced for half way decent sushi. We are better off going to Min Ghung or Sushi house for all you can eat. read more

I've been to OKI several times now and each time I am extremely pleased with their service and food! I've only ever tried the sushi but it is some of the best sushi I've had and I have eaten sushi at a lot of places before. The crunchy scallop roll is amazing and I would highly recommend it. The scorpion bowls are great too! The servers are very friendly and most times we've been there we have been given complimentary saki or chicken skewers. Also, the happy hour specials are amazing and totally worth the long drive it takes for me to get there. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for inexpensive, delicious sushi! read more

The food here is really great. Great sushi for sure. However, the service and management is very much lacking. The first time we ate in the restaurant the waitress took a half hour to come and say hi and get us waters. The hostesses are not friendly and you feel like more of a hassle to them. Let's just say, if I could, I'd score -5 stars. WORST SERVICE EVER - DO NOT GO, go to Kobe in Manchester instead, or Sakura in South Windsor!!! I used to frequent Oki in Vernon when they first open because they have this awesome party package for parties larger than 10 people and at first we were so shocked with the amount of food and the great service. However, over the years, the service has been getting worse, and worse. I'm not sure if it was change in management or what happen, but it's become the worst managed hibachi restaurant I've ever gone to. I've worked in hibachi restaurants, so I think I know what I'm talking about. The straw that broke the camels back for myself was our New Years Eve dinner. We made hibachi reservations, party of 12, we did the party package, our reservation was for 6, the second we sat down I noticed our server was new, and I'd never seen her before, I became quite nervous. She immediately hounded us to get drink orders, we were not ready, so she stood there staring at me, so I said, "Ok, just bring the table some waters please." We weren't sure what we were able to do yet, as some of our guests were not sure on whether or not they wanted the package. So she comes back with water, and asks for a drink orders again, we try to explain to her that we are waiting for our other guests before we decided....so that back and forth goes on for a while, with her never understanding what we wanted to do. So we put our drink orders in. She goes away for 10 minutes. Some of our missing people show up, we're still missing one, and we needed that one person in order to count for the party package. So because our server was so adamant about us ordering and rushing us so much, we were forced to call our missing person and ask if he wanted to do the party with us, and he agreed. Our server comes back quite a bit later (before all of our alcoholic beverages were out from the bar), and asks us to order our appetizers, now we hadn't even been sitting for a full 15 minutes at this point, which was moving a little too fast. Next thing we know we order our apps, she goes to the computer, comes RIGHT BACK, and makes us order our hibachi meals, which we then AGAIN, had to call our missing party to see what he wanted us to order for him, then the apps come out, then the soup, then the salad, then the sushi, then the hibachi chef comes out!!!!! At this point it was a whirlwind and we were all just super confused as to how we got to the point we were at so quickly, it had MAYBE been a half hour. Our missing person hadn't even shown up yet, and the hibachi chef was already cooking! So by the time our missing guest showed up he already had rice & noodles on his plate, unreal. We had to beg our chef to do the sake, and even after that he never even tossed the zucchini they normally do for your to catch. Terrible. So about an hour goes by and our chef is gone, our server is barely available to us, and we're stuck with empty glasses and a massive amount of plates. Then, our server comes back and we try ordering more drinks, she goes to the computer, comes back and hands us our bill.....uhm, this package includes dessert? Before we could even say that she disappears and a manager appears saying "do you mind going to sit at the bar with your drinks? we have another large party coming in we need to sit" Mind you, we still had an hour left on our open bar. So we oblige and then find out that the bar is completely jammed packed and we had to sit / stand at the sushi bar in the lobby of the restaurant. All in all it was the worst experience i've ever had there and I will never be returning. do NOT go here. Beware!! read more

We ate at Oki's Hibachi grill last week. The food was delicious and servings large, We even had leftovers. The filet mignon and scallops were cooked to perfection. We will be making this a regular stop and plan to bring back our family next weekend. The owner stopped by our table to ask us about our experience.. She was delightful. Thank-you! read more
