We were offered a complimentary sushi appetizer the chefs were experimenting with: a slightly seared salmon. The dual taste and texture of raw and cooked salmon was very good. We were also offered complimentary sake, and who would refuse free drinks? Let me take a step back and preface that the restaurant was not packed at all, and there was minimal wait time for our food. We were offered an appetizer and drinks not because anything was wrong, but because the staff is so absolutely incredible; they really want their customers to have an amazing time at Okinii. We ordered a sushi and sashimi combo for $32, which was presented beautifully and most importantly tasted very fresh. So we decided to try Okinii, though one of our party had found it wanting some years earlier. But it has obviously improved its game, because the Dinner Sushi and Dinner Sushi/Sashimi combo were excellent, as judged by three Japanese in the party. Okinii was pleasant surprise, with great service and fresh sushi for a very reasonable price (especially given the location). It's kind of hole-in-the-wall and was practically empty when I was there for an early Friday dinner, but personally I found that it was a nice escape from the busy city. I ordered a sushi and tuna roll set, and I left very full for about $15. The fish was very tender and the rice was still warm and perfectly seasoned. There was a variety of fish (salmon, ahi tuna, yellowfin tuna, octopus, conch, eel, and caviar) All the fish were fresh and cut into great portions. WE LOVE OKINII! Okinii = our sushi homies. Every time we go we are greeted like long lost friends (even by some of the guys we don't know). Can't say enough good things about the people and service. The food is super fresh, high quality, reasonably priced and beautifully presented. I always feel like it's a "hidden gem", never feels overly crowded and we don't have to wait for service. Happened upon Okinii while wandering through the village. Had the sashimi appetizer, miso, California roll & seafood fried rice. The food was good and the service was friendly and accommodating. The sashimi was fresh and appropriate for the appetizer portion. I'm curious about the full 25pc meal portion. The ginger and wasabi were fresh as well. We were allowed to customize the fried rice to accommodate our preferences and Damon & staff got it right. We ate and talked for hours without being rushed out and will for sure return. Went there one day, the service and food was good and enjoyed my time so much so that I not only tip but I came back again with others, this time however the food was subpar, no body finished their food and as a result left no tip. I had a pretty enjoyable experience here on a Friday night. It was after 9 pm and I was a not expecting to be seated quickly, but luckily some seats were available at the bar. It's always fun to watch the sushi chefs at work. I started with edamame as I always do with sushi. I thought it was a good size portion for the price, plus it came in this cute little bamboo bowl that I've never seen anywhere else. Then I ordered one of the specialty rolls called Rio. It had tuna, yellowtail and salmon on top with crab and avocado inside. I also tried the peppered tuna salad which had a great flavor.
