I went here with my dad, and brother over the weekend at my brother's suggestion. He'd heard good things and we wanted to give it a try. Pros: Service was excellent. Our server, Sarah (I believe), was quick and attentive. She explained all the exotic European baked good offerings and made suggestions. My omelet was made with the wrong cheese, and she got it resolved immediately. The taste of the food was fine, although not the best I've had, and the speed of service was fine as well. Cons: Nickel and dime, this place if full of up charges, so watch out. I ordered a side of sausage, and was asked if I wanted 2 or 3 patties. I assumed there was a half side or a full side, and that was why I was being asked. I replied that I wanted 3 patties, which turns out to be 1.5 sides. They get $2.50 each for 3.5" sausage patties like you would get on a sausage biscuit at any fast food establishment. There was literally nothing special about the sausage, it's the same stuff you'd get from Jimmy Dean but cost $7.50 for 3. My Dad is diabetic and so he can't have potatoes or bread with his meal. He let our server know that. He ordered a 3 egg omelet and that is all he got. Apparently there is no a la carte option here, because for that small omelet he still had to pay $11.99 no credit for not receiving anything else. It was approximately 8 to 10 bites. I'm on Keto, and had the same experience. No discount on passing on the potatoes, but I got nailed with that extra side of sausage which ended up costing as much as a whole breakfast special anywhere else. This place is a terrible value, and with all the competition in the area, I'm shocked they are hanging in there. If you have a fat wallet and a small appetite and really want to experience some European baked goods, then try the Old European. If you have a German grandmother, take her here. If that isn't you, choose some place else. Our total was $49 for 3 people before tip and with no beverages. They got us once, but they will not get us again. read more

Love breakfast at the Old European. I'm a fan of potato pancakes but you don't find them nearly often enough. OE makes me happy. I have had bites of my wife or daughters pancakes, which are great but the potato pancakes are just the best. The chunks of sausage in the potato mix makes it. Recently I decided to try this establishment again as it is not one of my go-to places in Post Falls. Had the Denver type omelette with biscuits and gravy. As can be seen from photo I attached, omelette looks almost pre-made and the biscuits were square. Gravy was ok but not write home about. Not impressed. I was really excited for this place because it had such great reviews. And I had heard from a friend how good it was. Beware it is so expensive! Everything is extra. After tip we paid $70 for 2 people. I splurged and got a loaf of sourdough bread. I love sourdough bread. It was awful. Like a heavy brick. So mad i spent $12 on it . Honestly the Abelskivers were okay. Nothing amazing. I make them for my family every Christmas morning and mine taste better. Don't waste your time and money! read more

Another glass of OJ? That will cost you. Would you like sour cream with your potato pancakes? That will cost you. You would like to substitute eggs for hash browns? That will cost you too. I don't remember it being like this a few years ago, but It seems that everything costs you extra here now. To me this is a giant turn off, especially when the prices are a little steep to begin with compared with quality. The only thing I can recommend anymore is the potato pancakes, they're still good. I used to love the ebelskivers, but they changed their recipe. The service was okay, she kept my coffee cup full, but when I asked for a menu, I was told to just use one of my friends. Really? Apparently I was asking way too much, especially since it was busy, oh, wait.....it wasn't! With this combination I don't see myself coming for another few years because of this. Quite enjoyable breakfast I loved the stuffed pastries (I can not recall their name at the moment) staff was friendly and knowledgeable very welcoming and proud of the restaurant's cuisine. This will for definite be my breakfast spot when in the area. Restaurant and surroundings were very clean. I loved the house-made hot sauce because I am a lover of hot sauces and theirs was great. Also if you like OJ with your breakfast they fresh squeeze it when ordered... such a classy touch! Everyone in my party also enjoyed their breakfast! We were eating about mid morning on a Thursday and it was crowded though we were seated immediately however I'd suggest planning to dine during less peek hours or assume you may have a wait due to this establishments popularity but it's worth a brief wait for sure. read more

5 stars all day long. I looooove this place! I completely agree with the solid 4.5 rating. The staff is insanely friendly, quick and helpful. The hostess even pitched in to clear table and ask if we needed anything. I got the organic coffee and my husband got the salted Carmel coffee. Both were excellent. We ordered the aebels (blueberry, sausage n cheese and plain). Surprisingly I liked the blueberry ones best. They were delicious. We ordered the rye bread with raspberry jam. It's different, but it was very nice. I appreciate all the work that went into the bread. I got the bacon Swiss and avocado omelette and he got the Hungarian goulash. They were both really excellent. I ordered a side of hash brown and for a cinnamon roll, too. I know. How the freak are we gonna eat all this? Well, we tried and did an excellent job, if say so myself. We didn't eat the cinnamon roll, that's for my stoner ass later after hitting up the dispensers over in Spokane, lol. Wynonna was our service and she rocked. The food was excellent. Staff was friendly, restaurant was clean. The menu was the worst I've ever seen. Long boring stories filled up half the page. They had little to do with the food, so unnecessary. We don't care, and if I wanted to read a book I would go to the library. We went in for lunch, big mistake. They had only 3 sandwiches, not that great. The potato soup was more like potato casserole, nothing soupy about it and it didn't get eaten. Lastly she brought us some fried dough things. Unfortunately not impressed. One star for specifically takeout , we have been coming here for years (eating at the establishment) and have always loved it. Today I tried calling to make a takeout order, was told to come in to place an order; which is fine. When I got there, there wasn't many people waiting or dining. What looked like to be a manager was touching tables as 4 servers just walked aimlessly around. I made eye contact and smiles with a lot of people... within 20 minutes I had to stand basically in the host stand to ask to make a to go order. After my order was placed I sat myself at an empty table for an hour due to the waiting area being small and two couples waiting there; watching the people that came in as I did get their food, drinks, cash out and leave. I was starting to get a bit frustrated. Finally, after an hour and a half of being there I am given my take out order (hashbrowns, eggs, sausage and crepes)... person bringing the food mentioned my crepes would be deconstructed, which was fine; but seriously waiting that long for that? Then a check for $60 fucking dollars. Wouldn't be pissed about the price if the service was better, the wait wasn't over an hour (for a to go order). Just to come home (5 min drive) and the hashbrowns still frozen and sausage was burnt. Get it together. This place has been a favorite, hoping next time I return it's better... which I'm sure it will be since the priority is for seated guests; not takeout orders. read more

SO GOOD. Literally the best breakfast, lunch or brunch in the area (or might I say in any restaurant I've ever been to???)! We have been here 3 times in the past month and I guess the only reason for deducting a star is that I have gained like 14 lbs from eating here (kidding!). The kids are addicted to aebelskivers (with sausage stuffing - they offer other stuffing). Also, they offer FREE PANCAKES on the children's menu! Bonus!!! Hubby has tried the goulash and stuffed french toast and loved them both! The french pressed coffee is amazing as well. Only thing we're not a fan of so far: the dutch babies. While it could be personal preference, my in-laws, hubby and kids didn't care for them either (we tried lemon and peach). Not being familiar with the dutch baby, it's possible we just don't care for dutch babies. But it seemed like they were doughy and not worth the calories. If you're heading here on a Sunday, be aware that it can be a wait, even for a party of 4 (never mind our party of 11 today haha!). This a lunch brunch place that serves European food. I give this place 5 stars all around. Very friendly staff. My kids got cute free pancakes free of charge. They answered all our questions, we didn't wait long, felt welcomed. Food was amazing! The crepes were best I have ever tried. My omelette was perfect, not to greasy and perfect size. The comment below stating this food is like Denny's couldn't be more wrong. Food here taste homemade and not greasy! I would highly recommend this place even if just passing through Idaho. Down to 3 stars from 4... customer service has gone down hill and if it is a weekend you better want exactly what is on the menu as substitutions are impossible when 'busy'. This morning they were far from busy but the server made it a point to tell me I most likely couldn't get my food the way I wanted and if t was possible it would take a long time. I am here ALL the time and this is becoming an issue. Last 2x I've been I have left before ordering. Original review: Trying a new breakfast place on a Sunday is something I would not normally do but today I made an exception and am glad that I did... I had a very simple 2 egg and bacon breakfast with a side of their biscuits and gravy... Eggs were slightly undercooked but not bad, bacon was perfect and the HOMEMADE biscuits with HOMEMADE country gravy (on the side) was worth writing home about! The server, Britney, knew the menu like the back if her hand and brought out a little HOMEMADE raspberry jam:-) the man enjoyed the chicken fried steak with blueberry ableskivers (sp?) and IT WAS PHENOMENAL! The experience for children is awesome. From watching them squeeze the orange juice, fresh, to the little activity kits to keep them occupied, this is our favorite spot to take the girls on the weekends. Kids also get a free pancake! read more

I just cant get enough of the Old European. Ive been here a half dozen times now and always leave happy and full. Its a nice, clean, and comfortable little family joint with super friendly staff that have always been great. Menu has a lot of options, but noteworthy is the Hungarian Goulash, DELICIOUS! Its a giant portion of breakfast heaven. Complimented on my last visit with a side of biscuits and gravy, that were also very good, made for an enormous breakfast that my Fiancee and I shared. Now the ebelskivers, my god you MUST have them! They're like delicious little pancake balls with either fruit or stuffed with sausage. The sausage is all I ever have and are a true fat kid's delight. We ate here a year ago as we were passing through the area. Now anytime I'm remotely close (20 miles in the wrong direction this morning) I'm here. The hostess who was our waitress last year remembered us from last year. The food was as I remembered it. The OJ is to die for, portions are huge. My husband & I flew up to Spokane from AZ for several days. I guess COVID didn't come to this part of the world, since not one of the staff members was wearing a mask. Yes, the food was very good and they put us in a far corner of the restaurant. When another couple came to sit at the next table up from us, the table had been picked up of dirty dishes, but it had not been wiped down. I think it was only when the hostess hear me saying that the table had not been sanitized that she noticed a spot that needed to be wiped off. . Every time I have friends or family, I bring them here. Food: Sausage Aebleskivers!! and my favorite, the German Pancake. Their coffee/drink list is amazing. Fresh squeezed orange juice. Their soups are made from scratch. I have certain favorite dishes, but so far I have been pleased with just about anything/everything I've tried. Cleanliness: Waiting area, dining room and bathrooms are always clean. I've never had a problem. Customer service: Everyone is super friendly and helpful. If it's your first time, they might give you a sample aebleskiver if you ask nicely. Kid's Menu: Pancakes are free with an adult purchase. Eggs, bacon, and other side dishes are extra with a small fee. My son loves the snake pancake. There is also a little "lunch box" full of toys that your kid can play with while they wait for their food. Bring your friends! Unfortunately, they are only open in the morning and for the lunch rush till about 2PM, so get there early. read more
