Holy moly! We are so glad we don't live around here because we would weigh so much we'd have to be rolled around instead of walking (you know, like the blueberry girl in Willy Wonka?). The food at Old European is so good, it's almost hard to believe, and I'm not prone to hyperbole. I had the goulash, husband had eggs Benedict, son had Dutch baby with their homemade raspberry jam, and daughter had teddy bear French toast with strawberries. Everything was tasty and the portions were large. We also got three free abelskivers that were so light and fluffy and delicious, I may actually try using my grandma's old abelskiver pan when we get home. We ended up purchasing two jars of the jam to take home, it was so good. And our waiter, Brittany, was friendly, engaging and efficient. First time here was for breakfast on Memorial Day. The place was packed, but we waited only about 10 or 15 minutes for a table for three. My husband and I both had the fried steak and both chose the aebelskivers. Didn't realize we would each get six of them! My mom had the bacon, spinach, and avocado omelette with the house-made rye bread toast. Everything was really good, and the service was good. This is a standard for us and one that our grandchildren look forward to at least once during their visits from California and Florida. Out of this world! We had a little bit of a wait, but ended up being impressed by everything!! The staffed was so flashy in turning over those tables. My husband and I are so picky when it comes to our cuppa joe and their coffee list is crave-able! Yum. We had the Austrian coffee and the Austrian salted caramel coffee, our kids had the hot cocoa which was divine...whip cream was oh-so-amazing...In addition to the coffee our favorites off the menu where the goulash (we added avocado), stuffed sausage aebleskiver and the cinnamon roll! First time visitor and yes, I am a fan. We had breakfast, just a basic breakfast although there were several unique choices on the menu. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The coffee menu was like a steakhouse wine menu; a lot of delicious choices. Also, fresh squeezed orange juice and you can watch them make it. Overall it was an above average dining experience because of menu uniqueness and the employees, what a great group. Well trained in product knowledgeable and customer service. My sister-in-law recommended that my husband and I have breakfast here. We were visiting from California last Thanksgiving. We were so happy with our choice! We shared the variety ball pancakes (can't remember the name) but they were amazing!!!!!! Blueberry were my favorite. And I had the special coffee. Also really yummy! The German cakes? Definitely all that. Everything else, coulda just gone with Denny's & saved a couple bucks. It was fine, just not blow your socks off amazing. The waitress was outstanding; never let my coffee get below half full, & offered a cup for the road. Try it, just don't mess with the Scandinavian cake plate; go straight for the German cakes. Oh my! Oh My! This place was a find! We stumbled upon it the first morning of our trip, on our way to Gillette Wyoming and boy am I glad we stopped. The coffee was to die for, we tried their specialty coffee and it was tasty! The food was... oh my goodness... it was heaven! The sweet cream pancakes are no joke! If you are watching your waist line this is NOT the place to stop. The hash browns were perfection! Good selection for kids as well. And they give you a $5 off gift card for first timers, to ensure your return... Gotta say, it's quite a ways from home, but if we ever have an occasion to be in that neighborhood again we will most definitely stop in there for food! read more

Pricey - yes. Worth it - yes. We love going here with the family for the occasional special breakfast/brunch out. They give FREE pancakes to all the kids which I totally appreciate. The noise levels are comfortably loud in there so I don't worry about my kids chattering. Go to food in uses the goulash which is a giant portion you will absolutely take half home. My newest obsession is the sweet cream filled crepes. Mmmm. I make specialty aebelskivers at home so I rarely order them here but everyone I know is gaga over them. When you first walk in staff is very friendly and you are usually seated right away. As soon as you are at your table the service is amazing, and the French press and choffee are absolutely delicious. Once you receive your food though you will get your check right away which gives you a feeling as if they were saying, "well you've got your food now eat it and leave." The waitress doesn't come to check up on you until you're pretty much done and ready to pay. Now food wise, your omelette will probably be undercooked with very runny egg whites and your French toast will taste stale. Your goulash will have a tower of onions under the cheese. In other words not the best breakfast place around, but the coffees are definitely worth trying. read more

This is our go-to breakfast place for Sunday mornings. While they're usually busy, there's a reason for that. Good food! Our favorite is the Traditional Goulash! I've eaten at the OE both here in Post Falls and Spokane several times. The service is always friendly and timely; the food tasty and fulfilling. Top notch breakfast spot AND gluten-free friendly! We were on the hunt for a place that was gluten-free friendly and we found it here...and then some. The service was excellent, the menu has European items such as to-die-for Aebleskivers, Hungarian Goulash (much like a breakfast hash), regular and buckwheat pancakes, raisin and nut oatmeal and a bacon/avocado/spinach omelet that was all delicious and served hot. The organic, shade grown French press coffee is the best I have ever tasted (I normally drink Starbucks) and I was searching the menu to find its brand, but failed. The fresh-from-the-press orange juice is also the best I have ever tasted, as well. Oh, I should not forget the in-house made raspberry jam. Yum. All 6 of us at the table were extremely pleased with our experience and wish we could bring this place to Seattle! They take pride in quality ingredients, great cooking and service. read more

I love going here for breakfast. There isn't another restaurant in the area with a menu even remotely close to this. The aebleskivers are great and the potato pancakes are awesome. I often order the European cake plate, because you get a lot of variety in one meal, but it is a really big plate of food, so be hungry or get a to-go box. The orange juice is fresh squeezed, literally right in front of you. Prices lean a bit toward the high side for breakfast, but the food is so good, it's worth paying a buck or two more than you would at Denny's. The food was delicious. Everything, EVERYTHING is homemade (except the white bread, sourdough bread and 1 other thing the waitress told us). The orange juice was fresh squeezed, only 2 of us ordered orange juice originally and after a taste everyone at the table ordered a glass. The waitress, cindy, was wonderfully delighted and upbeat, explaining it was a family restaurant and brought us a free sample of their Danish pastries. And yes, they were super yummy and we were all sad we had not ordered them. Great place to eat with the whole family and something for everyone. My husband does not eat carbs and they had a gluten free vegie omelet. Cant wait to go back next time we are near Spokane or Coeur d'alene. read more

I had the European breakfast, I really liked the large sized hashbrowns. Ordered the regular drip coffee which was really good. Service was very prompt and friendly. I did try my son's strawberry crepes, were a little to sweet for my taste but the texture and flavor the crepe was excellent. I did not like the sweetened strawberry syrup. This place has good food but every time I have ever gone for breakfast the service has been shoddy at the best. Usually we end up finding a manager to pay the bill because the wait staff have wandered off someplace. The ebelskivers are very good but I make them at home now and thus need not to buy them anymore. The hand squeezed OJ is over priced as is the specialty coffee. I've been here a few times but I don't think I will go back. they have very small quantities for pretty expensive prices for example just one cup of orange juice it might be a little bit more than one cup but not by much and it cost nearly $5 granted there orange juice is good but it definitely is not worth the price the seating could be better with more privacy you can see everybody in the entire restaurant from almost every chair, I ordered a omelet that was $11 and it was so small that I had to go get something else to eat afterwards and I don't usually have a big appetite. $16 for a 2 egg omelet that was not even close to half the size of the little plate they put it on and one small small cup of orange juice?
