We ordered takeout during our recent stay in Truckee and were pleased. Ordering was easy, pick up was fast, everything was ready just as we had ordered it. We ordered the mushroom pizza and the meatball pizza. Both were very yummy with a great crust. The mushroom pizza was a bit uneven with the toppings so some pieces had tons of mushrooms while others didn't have any. The truffle was noticeable but not overpowering, it complimented the flavors of the cheese and mushrooms quite nicely and was the preferred pizza for the 4-year-old's palate. Meatball pizza had very flavorful meatballs - lots of herbs in there. It is easy to pick off the meatballs in case and have it be more or less a cheese/margarita pizza if someone doesn't prefer them. Old town tap is our go to place for lunch and a drink when we are in Truckee. The location is fantastic and situated perfectly so that you can sit inside or out and feel well connected with the bustle of the town. The food is excellent with artisanal pizzas and great salads. The drinks are creative and well made and the staff and customers always seem cheerful and upbeat. read more

Upon initial research I was curious to know why this place is so popular and it's because they earned it. We dined on Caesar Salad which was very well dressed and croutons were just the right touch of crunchy contrast to the creamy dressing. Next was a plate of cheese curds with a dipping sauce which almost instantly disappeared. They were crunchy, hot and perfect start. The Brussels and burrata were fantastic, I'm a huge fan of the bread they give you as well, I can imagine the pizzas they put on it are fantastic. Once day I'll come down for one of those. Cocktails are inventive and tasty, the bartender is very friendly and makes sure that you love what you got. Okay so the food was really good. We had the Brussels sprouts, the meat balls with polenta, and the mushroom pizza. Everything was way tasty. Service was crap. Our waiter started out fine - seemed like a good guy gonna do us right - but then he literally disappeared. After getting drinks and our appetizers we waited for 30 minutes before having to track him down and remind him that we were still wanting to order more food and some beer. He'd obviously been drinking himself but apologized profusely for not filling our waters or bringing lemon. We got our pizza in a timely manner but he never checked to see how it was (very good would have been the answer!) Stumbled upon this place for lunch , The ambiance of the restaurant is very romantic and interesting . I ordered a pepperoni pizza which was delicious, it came on a thin crust with fresh mozzarella and it was a 8/10 which was good. My server came and checked on me and told me stories about her hometown which was really interesting and I really liked the vibes of the restaurant. Went here on a busy holiday weekend. Restaurant and bar was packed full! A little disorderly in regard to waiting to get seated, as host was overwhelmed. Seems that the restaurant staff are mostly young juveniles with minimal hostility skills. Once finally seated our server was on point! Great menu options and beer and wine list. Recommend the Ceaser salad. The bone marrow was excellent. The margarita pizza with added prosciutto was on point. Also had the olive & garlic pizza which was great. Once in and seated our dinner experience was great. Customer service was good after the initially excessively long wait to even speak to the entrance host. My fiancé and I were looking for a happy hour bite while in Truckee. I was sad to learn that Old Town Tap no longer has happy hour (restaurant trying to survive in a post-COVID world) but I was pleased to find a menu offering a variety at good prices. We sat at the bar and Sam was our bartender. He was very welcoming, fun, and friendly. We ordered a few craft cocktails and they were DELIGHTFUL. I was surprised by the uniqueness of the ingredients and how well they all came together. We also split a pizza which was good. It's definitely worth popping in to Old Town Tap if you're in the area - say hi to Sam and have a great cocktail. P.S. they do offer drinks to-go. read more

Sister and I recently drove from Sacramento to Reno for a concert. On the way there we realized as we neared Truckee at about lunch time that we were starving (and also needed bio breaks!). We headed to the old downtown, parked, and started walking down Donner Pass Road. It was a gorgeous day so we turned in to Old Town Tap to sit on the patio and grab a bite. What a great decision! We shared the smoked salmon nicoise salad and the housemade hummus with grilled flatbread. We ate every single little bite of both dishes and just kept raving about how delish it was. The house-smoked salmon was absolutely perfect. Nice smoky flavor, not too salty, not oily. The salad included yummy tidbits like slices of cooked fingerling potatoes, olives, and caperberries. Not sure what the dressing was but it was perfect. Hummus was drizzled with lemon-infused olive oil and sprinkled with bits of pistachios, kalamata olives, and other things I'm forgetting about now. Seriously, this light but scrumptious lunch was good enough to make us try to time our return the next day to hit Truckee during lunch, though ultimately that didn't work out. Rest of the menu had lots of tasty-sounding items so I think just about anyone would find one or more dishes to like or even love (as we did). Strange visits the last couple of time. Place was good during the pandemic maybe because the number of tables was manageable to their staff, but it seems they are just too busy now to keep up. The menu is good...when made correctly. The salad and pizza we normally share between two people: this time, the salad was barely enough for one person (wouldn't order it on my own for the cost...it used to be larger and plenty) and the pizza was absolutely soaked with a wet ingredient with what was barely a bottom crust. We had to scrape it off the bottom as it wouldn't stay together. Even then, it was a wet bite of toppings and what seemed like no crust. Our drinks we ordered when we first arrived came out as we were finishing what felt like "soup pizza" and we left hungry. I mean, I'm a one-two max slice of pizza eater...it felt like we had barely been fed. And not to nitpick but after a day of skiing (or anytime) I kinda want the drink at the start...not as a dessert. All the flavors are great but it felt like everything was incredibly rushed to the point quality was sacrificed. Felt like a waste of money, to be honest. Jack was incredibly friendly and super knowledgeable about the whole selection of alcohols and did a great job picking some tailored to me and then talking me through their histories and notes. Truckee is a quick 30 minute trip from our house in Reno, which brought us to town for a holiday touristy outing of downtown shopping and lunch. OT Tap was our pick because of wanting and craving pizza for lunch. We ordered the cheese curds (5+/5) and a Caesar salad (5+/5) to start with. Both were absolutely delicious and the highlight of her meal. The Caesar salad was a huge platter of perfectly dressed romaine, just a bit of tartness to the dressing but not too much. The cheese curds were hot and fresh! We ordered two pizzas for the three of us. One Margherita and another Margherita with prosciutto. Both the pizzas were just okay. As another Yelper reviewed, the pizzas are good, but not the greatest you'll ever have. The crust needed more flavor and a better chew. The cheese was fine but the sauce had a bit too much of a heavy tomato paste flavor. But that's just our opinion about this pizza and we're just picky when it comes to pizza. It did help that they have a wood-fired pizza oven. The restaurant's cool, mountain ski-town vibe and casualness makes it a great environment and fun place to dine. Service was good too, despite the place being very busy. We'll return and perhaps try the mushroom garlic pizza that was raved about in other reviews. Eating in Truckee can be tough. As a tourist town you can spend a hot bundle for a ho hum experience. That is NOT what you will experience at Old Town Tap. The restaurant itself is a mash up of a well stocked mountain bar and industrial hipster hang out with a wood fired oven. The staff are cheerful and effective but, enough about the surroundings, let's get to the important stuff: the food, which, is clearly made with skill and love. We started with the soup- melon tomato gazpacho. Now I am a gazpacho snob and this one stands up - made with tomatoes, and melon and dressed with olive oil and popcorn. It was great! I has the little gems salad with chicken added. It was perfectly dressed with plenty of tasty thick bacon. My son had the prosciutto pizza which was also great. The soft serve ended the meal with a sweet smile. You're in Truckee, you gotta eat, it ainted gonna be cheap. This is the place to have your dinner. read more

I've been hearing about this place for years and never tried it. I think it was because the restaurant that was there before wasn't any good and I'm so used to restaurants coming and going in Truckee and never been that good. It's crazy how few restaurant/businesses last in Truckee. Especially when the town feels infested with tourists, but I digress. This was the perfect place to go on a Sunday in the afternoon. We sat at one of the bars that faces outside, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The train went by a few times. It was a lovely summer breeze. It was great people watching. The service was good and so was the food. Or I would say this is one of the top five restaurants in Truckee. It's super casual. I really enjoyed the brussels sprouts, but actually squeezed a little lemon on them to give them a little bit more flavor. Got to visit this sweet spot yesterday while my boyfriend finished up work. Had to do the uncomfortable bit by walking into a restaurant and asking for a table for one. However the bartender invited me up to the bar to hang out, promised me good food (excellent in fact!) and a nice glass of wine and it felt like I was just at home. Also a very warm spot to be as the first of snow started to fall. I cannot wait to visit this place more on future trips to Truckee! read more

A friend recommended my husband and I visit Old Town Tap when we were in Truckee for a long weekend and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant/bar was pretty full but we were able to get a table right away. (It helped that we wanted to sit outside as the weather was nice and there was more room for our stroller.) Our server was kind and efficient, the beer was tasty, and the pizza was delicious. My husband ordered the Pork and Padron pizza. I'm not usually a fan of pizza without marinara sauce, but it was perfection. Savory with a hint of sweet, and just the right amount of toppings. I ordered the meatball pizza and it was more classic, but equally as good! The meatballs themselves were the star of the show. Overall super pleased with the experience and will def leave it on the list for when we return to Truckee! read more

Visited twice so far. The first time we ordered a truffle mushroom pizza to go. It was really good. I am a huge truffle fan, but I did find this a little rich for me and could only eat 2 slices (it's not a very big pizza) The second time we stopped for outdoor dining on the first day of spring 2021 :) it was a Saturday and tables were already full but they managed to seat us with no wait. We were super hungry after a long hike. Their burrata cheese plate is really good and so is the flatbread. My favorite though was the crunchy kale and quinoa salad, it came in a bowl, great portion size, and very tasty. It was also sweet, that might have been the dressing. DONT BE A FOOL AND MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GOING ANYWHERE ELSE IN TRUCKEE FOR DESSERT!!! You might be tempted to try the many flavors of ice cream available at the various shops around town, but the single flavor of vanilla that comes out of the soft serve machine here is literally the nectar of the gods! If you told me that this soft serve machine was constructed by Jesus and extruded the angelic flavor of divinity itself not only would I believe you, that is actually the only explanation that makes any sense. All of the toppings are delicious, and though it may seem simple or strange my favorite is sea salt and olive oil. I usually start with that then have caramel with pistachio for my second serving. Afterwards I'll take some fruit or coco on my 3rd or 4th cup to go. The food here is pretty good too. read more

This used to be our favorite place in whole Tahoe area and we have been going there for many years. So we were so excited to go for a dinner there yesterday. People working there are still very nice and welcoming but food has became just below average. They used to have one of our favorite pizzas in Northern California but now it reminded more of overcooked flatbread. They were making amazing bone marrow in the past but yesterday it was just mediocre. It felt like that their chef has changed because almost every one of our favorite dishes which we were ordering was not even close to what is used to be for all these years. Burrata wad good though.Very sad to see such an amazing place to turn into another mediocre eatery with tasteless food. Hopefully it was just one day with poorer food quality and that it is not a new norm for them. read more
