I really like the atmosphere and the food was good. I had a texmex breakfast with coffee and the kids got pancakes and eggs. Everything was good. Nothing stood out as amazing. They also charge for coffee as you wait, which is annoying. They don't serve fresh creamer, they use those little containers, like you'd see at 7-11. The process to get you seated is a bit sloppy. We were skipped a few times and two guests separately complained to us that they were also skipped. We were told 5 minutes and it took about 30 to be seated. This was the best breakfast we have had in a restaurant in some time. We noticed that if you get a specialty coffee drink, you get free regular coffee refills. I thought that was a nice touch. Service was good and we were seated within 10 minutes. I chose the Wrangler, because I wanted to try everything. Homemade hash browns, eggs(3), sausage(2), bacon(2), 1/2 piece of ham, biscuit with sausage gravy, buttermilk pancake. Way, way too much food for me! I, however, gave it the college try. My first taste was of the biscuit with sausage gravy. The biscuit was flaky/crisp on the bottom, rich buttery yet still fluffy on the inside, topped with peppery slightly spicy sausage (generous amounts of sausages) gravy. I couldn't think of trying anything else until that was completely gone! Here's the thing, I almost never order cream gravy on anything, because I can't stand the pasty tasteless slop that most restaurants serve. The buttermilk pancake was a sight to behold. Perfectly cooked, fluffy, as big as the plate and, tasted heavenly! Homemade sausage was great! If I ever get bacon again, I'll ask for it crispy. It was cooked perfectly for those people that like it "just cooked" but I've got to have the crunch. My only almost complaint was that the eggs were cooked over easy, though I asked for over medium, but I am sure they would have remedied this had I said anything. read more

So this place was interesting. The coffee bar was awesome. They offer almond milk which always makes me happy and the iced coffee (I think the belly buster it was called) was awesome. I'm surprised to say this, but the portion sizes are way too big. I left so much food on the table, which is usually not a thing for me. I got a combo (forget the name) but came with country fried chicken and gravy, potatoes, grits and eggs. The chicken itself was good. The gravy was so bland, almost no flavor. The potatoes were good. Eggs were great. Grits were also pretty plain (but they are grits). I think the place has real potential, but the food was just a bit bland, and way too much. Everything but the chicken fried chicken was season less and if it hadn't been "soaked overnight in buttermilk" it probably would have been too. The waitress was the best part of our experience. Ordered a simple bacon & egg breakfast. Eggs were undercooked, clear egg white . Asked for eggs the way I ordered them, over medium. The pic shows what I got, and I noted "these are burnt" when she dropped them off. I left them untouched, visited by server 3 times including when she brought the check, and she never inquired why the eggs weren't eaten. To me, that's obvious. She didn't cook them, so I still tipped, but not the usual 50% I do on breakfast. She should have never served them. read more

Came here after checking out UNT. I was seated right away. My waitress was nice and quick. Old west Cafe always seems to be busy. ALWAYS. And it's no wonder why. The food is excellent, hearty, and delicious. They specialize in breakfast/brunch style foods and offer some lunch items as well. I had the Vaquero skillet which was a TexMex inspired dish that one could easily split in to 2 meals if you wanted to. Their home made salsa is THE BOMB. Lastly, I have to mention how incredible our server Misti Bleu was! She was so attentive despite being swamped with customers. She checked on us several times and made sure we were satisfied. Used to live going here. I had weight loss surgery so I wanted to split the breakfast tacos with a friend. We asked for sausage on one taco and bacon on the other and they said the tacos had to be the same. So we asked for the manager. He didn't come out to clarify the situation but instead he just sent the waiter back and she said "We can do I just this once". The problem was that we had been in a week earlier and got the same order without a single problem. What was the big deal with making two different tacos? Plus, the coffee and latte's here aren't good so I asked for a coffee with one pump of vanilla syrup and she said "do you want whole milk?"
