The new Ollo makes me miss the old Coogie's. The interior is pretty but dominated by a large tree and a bar. The seating is uncomfortable, the table heights are mismatched, and there isn't much seating. That wasn't a problem because the place looked empty anyway. We ordered a salad and a turkey burger. The salad was ok, good quality, but expensive for the small portion size. The burger did not come as I ordered. It was too spicy, and not worth the 13 dollar price tag. Overall, it was a very so-so experience. It makes me miss Coogie's great chili and zucchini bread. Needless to say, I won't be coming back. read more

Great place for breakfast/brunch. I used to come here, when it was Coogie's, for weekend breakfast and it was better than average. Now it's moved decidedly upscale and the fare is slightly better and more expensive. Great place to wander in on a lazy weekend, sit outside (with a view of the parking lot) or at the bar/counter and indulge in some better than average breakfast/brunch. SO GOOD. I had never been here before (previously coogies) but am so happy I'm here now. My mom and I came for brunch and got the lemon-ricotta pancakes and a create your own scramble to share. In the scramble, we got mushrooms, avocado, mozzarella, and bacon. Easily one of the best breakfasts I've had in FOREVER. Fingerling potatoes that came with the scramble are so amazing. Everything was amazing. Staff were pretty friendly. Very pretty setting with the indoor tree and string lights. Ate the food before we were able to get a good picture, lol. Ordered the Chorizo skillet that had half cooked potatoes, no sign of real chorizo (I think they used ground beef), and just a mess of crappy pizza sauce that did not taste like any chile at all. Nowhere in the menu did it state the dish came with pizza sauce. It was insulting that they would even serve this AND for $13!? It was like a microwave dish you would get from a crappy pizza place and even then you would be pissed you wasted your money. Never again will I come here. Don't be a fool, walk down the plaza and just go to Subway where you know you're getting what you pay for. Don't make the same mistake we did. read more

Never ever eating here again, told my friends and family about the horrible treatment by the manager named Jessica. My boyfriend and I came in for breakfast on July 4th, 3 tables sat after us and got their food before us. Our server was overwhelmed with the amount of tables he had. He wasn't even able to get our drinks, the busboy did. When we initially told the manager we were just about to walk out because it took over a half hour to get the food to the table, her only response was "ok ok" in a smug attitude. The food was just alright this time, he ordered French toast and didn't eat half of it and he usually eats his whole meal. Come time to the bill, she didn't take any percentage off the meal for the inconvenience. I spoke with her again to try and let her redeem the situation and again..... Nothing and began to lie saying she told me was apologetic. Never was she apologetic. I am not one to complain, but I was so upset from her lack of customer service, she didn't care. Her management skills are lacking. She tried to make excuses of the busy holiday weekend, but I have been here when it was much busier and there were no problems. Staff better then if you are well aware it is a holiday weekend. We will never be eating here again and we used to come here often since we live just down the street. read more

I ate at Coogie's since 1994....loved everything about it and miss the food and prices there! My favorite dishes are gone now. Ollo is okay, menu is much more limited and prices are higher.....but although Coogie's was always packed for breakfast and lunch....seems the dinner crowd thinned. Ollo is making their effort and still seems packed at lunchtime....hopefully they will make it....great location! read more

We dined here last weekend and wanted to sit outside. We called the restaurant before and were told they don't take reservations and when we got there we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. After about 45 minutes we asked the hostess how much longer it would be and she said we were next on the list. We saw them setting up a table outside and assumed it was ours since we were just told that we were next on the list, but when the hostess came out she called another family who had not been there for as long as we had. We went inside and asked her what happened because she said we were next and she mentioned that she moved them up above some people on the list. What? We've been waiting for over 45 minutes and these people who just got here got seated right away? We asked to talk to the manager and she claimed "oh they called ahead." When we said we called ahead they mentioned they don't take reservations as to which she claimed "yeah we don't." So if you don't take reservations how did this family call ahead and get one? Their customer service was absolutely terrible and I would advise everyone to take their money and spend it elsewhere where people actually care about their customers. Also after we were finally seated after waiting for about an hour, we sat on the patio where there were HUNDREDS of flies all over the floor, tables, and all over people's clothes. It was absolutely disgusting and we couldn't wait to get out of there. read more

I was amazed to learn that this terrific business is owned by the same people who operated that horrible, pathetic Coogies. The interior design is modern, clean, airy, open and warm. Numerous very unusual and worthy dishes at mid-range prices.For example: 3 large scallops $23, tofu bowl $15, ahi tacos-small $10. Quality burgers of the meat, turkey, and vegie style. We liked the cauliflower appetizer. It's cooked just right, seasoned well and big. Unfortunately, it seems to be deep fried, which defeats the purpose. Grilled artichoke was xlnt. Food is prepared very carefully and ingredients appear to be very fresh, high quality. Numerous items to appeal to vegetarians, and healthy eaters. It's a notch higher than the nearby Marmelade, but not true fine dining. Well-crafted wine list. Outstanding servers, bartenders, and other staff. Very cheerful, helpful, and professional without being nuisances. read more

My father and I come here a number of times spending some daughter/father time due to the relaxing atmosphere; most times we just sit at the bar. Atmosphere and drinks great but food is definitely going down hill along with the service for the lunch/dinner menu. (perhaps breakfast is good as others here mention) On Oct 7th, we were seated in the far corner and all 5 light bulbs were burned out above us..we and the table next to us literally needed to use the lights on our iphones to read the menu. Just a sign that clearly the manager doesn't care (all 5 bulbs; really?). I had to place the packet sweeteners under the table leg so it wouldn't wobble so much and when I asked for water...it never came. No spoons for the tea and in general they were understaffed. My salmon bowl looked like nothing noted below by another. Salmon was half the size and overcooked; same with my father's sea bass. What a great place this would be if there was an excellent chef. Suggest that you stick to breakfast or drinks here but don't waste your money on dinner or lunch (as the menu is the same). read more

So far, so great! We went during the day with the kids. You could taste the quality of the local ingredients in the food. Loved the Bolognese sauce, the vegetable soup. Good service. Had dinner here last Sunday when there was a power outtage at our first choice (Malibu Farm). Totally decent! They were very nice and seated us right away. It's the kind of place with a big menu and something for everyone. Very comfortable and casual. Flat screens on the walls playing sports. Good fries. Also, a big bar, but the drinks were comically dainty! I had a mojito served in one of those old fashioned champagne glasses. Odd. Still, food was good if unremarkable. Giving this restaurant 1 star is a little too generous. On 21 Sep't. around 4:30 pm my fiancé and I went to OLLO for a quick dinner. When we went inside the restaurant, there was 1 gentleman at his table, and 1 woman at the bar, so one would think that seating should not be a problem. It was. There were about 4-5 people standing at the end of the bar, presumably employees. In fact, I would bet they were employees-they looked as though they were discussing a menu. We noticed that 2 of them saw us standing at the front waiting to be seated. So we stood there, several minutes, and while the employees did assert themselves in noticing us, not once did a single one of them assert any interest in seating us. I guess the 2 customers already seated overwhelmed them. Not only will we never go there again, I assure you we will tell every one of our experience and suggest they not go there. read more

Although the food was decent (I got the chorizo skillet), the service was kind of funky. When we arrived at our table, there were no utensils in sight. Looking around at the empty tables, there were utensils wrapped in a cloth napkin, stacked neatly. I ignored that observation because I was so hungry and I just took the unused utensils from the table next to us! Our waiter came by and I don't really remember him mentioning his name. He quickly took our orders and remained out of sight for the majority of the meal (except when distributing our meals and filling our waters once). Another weird observation was that our waters came with no straws. Every drink (water, soda, tea, etc.) had a straw in the cup, but our waters didn't. Just another funky observation. Like I said before, the food was okay (the chorizo skillet was very salty and wish it came with more tortillas to cut the salt). Wish I didn't get that weird vibe when I walked into the restaurant and had utensils and napkins readily available on our table. read more

Went to Ollo with my parents. We remember when it was Coogies and it was substantially better. We ordered the Pizza with Mushroom and Spinach, the Linguine in Olive Oil, a Cesar Salad and the Matzoh Ball Soup. The Pizza was the best...but none of it was good. The Cesar was pitifully dressed. The Pasta was supposed to be garlic and olive oil honestly tasted like airplane pasta, you know the kind with that artificial pepper flavor and way to spicy to be served without a note that it is spicy. We cook alot at home and make this dish often and the heat is supposed to be subtle, and you are supposed to taste the garlic. It had neither of those qualities. The Matzoh Ball Soup was fine - the soup was fine as far as Jewish chicken soup goes. Similar enough to my grandmothers. But the Matzah ball! My Grandma would never serve a Matzoh Ball like that. It just dissolved into the broth - it was very obviously not made by a bubbie. The Pizza, as I said, was the best, but still not great. The truffle flavor overwhelmed everything, the center of the pizza was soggy. Truffle is great, but needs to be used with finesse. It should be a subtle hint or suggestion, not a punch in the face. A place as expensive as Ollo should also follow coursing protocol - all of our food came out at once, and our table was way too small. we were definitely expecting to get the soup and/or salad before the rest of the entrees. As a result the food took a long time to come out, and the check took a long time as well. The seating was cute, but my experience is that the more time and money a restaurant puts into ambiance and appearance, the less money and focus they put into the food itself. read more

The first time we came here in August, we were excited to see the revamping of Coogie's into a stylish, farm to table restaurant in our neighborhood. The food exceeded expectations. I got the roasted chicken, and it was delicious, and my husband's beef burger was one of the best I remember having in a long time. Being a Malibu native and having watched many a local restaurant start strong and take a nose dive, especially after summer, I joked that I will give it til Halloween to lose its quality. Sadly, the prediction seems to have come true a few weeks early. We went back tonight, and the ambiance was the same, but the rest was a dud. I ordered sparkling water and got flat. We came at 5 and said we were on a tight time frame, and although there were only a few other people in the place, the waiter ignored us for another table that came after us. We ended up having to have our food to go because 45 minutes after we were seated, there was still no food on the table, and we had to run. My skirt steak was ordered medium and ended up well. The flavor of the meat did not taste very fresh. I ordered the red rice tabouleh in lieu of the fries, which the restaurant was kind and flexible enough to accommodate. But I could not eat it because it was so odd tasting - raw corn, raw onions, raw tomatoes, a few grains of red rice, lemon, a weird tasting mix. My husband had mercy, and offered me a taste of his turkey burger, which sadly I found totally inedible. The meat tasted very sour, not for me. His fries were not bad, although they call them "hand cut" on the menu, and they are all perfectly cut, which made us wonder what "hand cut" actually meant - maybe pressing the slicer? I always thought Coogie's food was pretty bizarre and hard to eat, even though it was a great place for kids because it had crayons, burgers, pancakes and the like. I was excited by the potential of Ollo. But I fear it has gone the way of a summer romance - so lovely in August, bust by the end of September... read more

Ollo is a good addition to Malibu,one of the hostesses ,unfortunately,is not. Rude and bursting with attitude . Made us miss the hostess with an excess of large smiles and creepy friendliness. If the management is reading the reviews, please let your people know that customers are not and inconvenience but the ones who keep the business going. We love the food and new decor , what we dislike is being pushed to get up ,while trying to take a bite out of our yummy burgers , in order to accommodate the hostess who needed our chairs pronto and could not move them unless we move out of her way. The way I see it....this is the table where I am seated, I am in the middle of chewing my bite....I think I have the right of way here. Or at least wait until we finish chewing! And no....we do not respond well to " hey ,folks " ....unless you are ready to sit next to us , grab your banjo and play a sad story ballad for us. Otherwise, please know that when one grabs their wallets to pay for the service, the service has to be good. A hostess with a bad attitude is not part of good service. In my opinion. read more

food is always delicious, good service but the hostess that day just really ruined our labor day/sat brunch experience. when we first arrived around 11:05-10am. she informed us it would take about 10-15 mins. we waited near by then waited in front of the restaurant where we were visible. 15 mins passed and no update as i see multiple people in a group of 2-3 walk in and get seated immediately. i finally ask her and she informs me that it will take another 10-15 mins?! i clearly heard a group of 3 go in without reservation right before i asked and got seated within 5 mins. i asked her if the other group had reservations...she didn't answer and just informed me that we will be seated in 5 mins. what got me upset is that we were on the top of the list but i saw many names below us get crossed off. when one of the guy managers (i think) came by, he seemed to have realized that others have been seated before us but didn't make it a point to make the situation right. we were seated after 40-45 mins. read more
