I have been coming here for a long time. When you first walk in you pass cases and cases of pastries and Greek pastries. I think I spend the first 10 minutes just looking through the cases carefully to decide what I want. They have the most beautiful pastries they all look so fresh and delicious. If you are a cheesecake lover they offer many different types cheesecake. I personally love cream filled cakes and their mocha cake has been my favorite choice. Once you are able to pass all of the cases of pastries they have a pretty large restaurant and a full bar. They offer a nice menu but I have never really eaten anything here but their pastries. As an adult (lol) I can eat dessert first and if I am hungry afterwards I would order hot food but unfortunately, I have never been hungry afterwards. I checked out Omonia Cafe after a stranger recommended it to me. Omonia Cafe has been around since the 1970s, and when you walk in, you can tell it probably hasn't been renovated since then. My boyfriend and I ordered a tiramisu cup and some wings. The tiramisu cup was tasty--it was very chocolaty and rich. The wings, according to my bf, tasted like they had been pulled out of the freezer. When the check came, the tiramisu cup rang up to a whopping $13. While I liked the nostalgia of Omonia Cafe, the high prices and general atmosphere of it leave much to be desired. read more

An Astoria classic thag I definitely think is a bit overhyped but still a nice place to come to! I've come here twice now for tea and desserts after dinner and there are so many things I like about it. Ambience: The first is that there is always a seat, the restaurants takes up a good amount of real estate on a prime street on Broadway and have both indoor and outdoor spots! It's very cute on the outside so I am excited for when the weather gets better Food: I've only had the desserts and I really enjoyed the baklava cheesecake! Not too sure what they hype is around this place maybe it's something that i ordered but i got some specialty coffee and pastry. the coffee tasted very burnt regardless of all the cream and sugar in it. i got some frappe coffee and it was bad i should've gone to starbucks instead. the pastry was ok i got the napoleon one which had mixed fruit and crepe this was awesome. pastry good coffees bad and the inside vibe is great plenty of staff too to help out. i won't go here again though the menu had too many options and took us awhile to choose from read more

This is a really great place for a date. It's very chill, the food quality is great, and the prices aren't too bad either. The service is friendly as well. On my first date with my boyfriend, I'm not sure what happened with the waitress who served us, but I liked how courteous she was by not consistently bothering us and showing up when she needed to. I love this place. It's the kind of diner I dreamed about before I moved to NYC 15 years ago and never really found in Manhattan in the 14 years I lived there. Is this the best greek food in Astoria? It is not, but there is a very high bar for that here, and it's not aspiring to be the best or the most interesting. The basics are very yummy. The souvlaki is good. The spannikopita is good. The cake is good. The basic chocolate shakes are exactly what you want in a basic chocolate shake. Cocktails are good. They have Mythos beer, the Bud Lite of Greece! Reasonably priced, always open, never too crowded, indoor-outdoor seating available. I stop by here frequently now that I live in the hood. Very nice waitstaff and don't feel bad getting out of your seat and finding them if it seems like they have forgotten about you. read more

What a lovely little find with great people. I witnessed them handle an angry rude white woman beautifully. I was in the area for a massage and then craved something sweet. I know I looked insane because I had not realized my mascara and eye shadow had smeared all over my face and the young man who helped me didn't even flinch. I was mortified after I realized I had been walking around like that. But that massage was everything (anywho back to scheduled programming)........ You can tell that this is a family establishment and those who were behind the counter were family or very familiar to one another. Which is why they handled the rude woman so nicely. So there were three workers behind the counter and they were pretty busy. There clearly was a sign on the door that stated that they are in need of help...experienced help at that. So that to me let me know that a little patience and additional kindness was needed. But not to this woman who singled out the blonde woman behind the counter for not being nice. First of all you could clearly see that she couldn't had been over 18 years old (if that), she was working hard to keep up and she was new! Wide eyed and handling herself behind the counter as best she could. How dare this woman demand that she be nicer. In what world. Yes there is a minimum level of customer service that is to be expected and they were moving slow but it was full of people who like me just wanted something sweet. The older gentleman stepped in and they got the angry woman out. Quickly neutralized and sent out. Nicely done. My lemon tea was perfect and the rainbow cookies were the right amount of sweet. My friend stated that the fruit on her tart was fresh and the crust was crunchy yet chewy. Overall enjoyed everything ordered and would love to go back to try a hot espresso. It's nice that this place is open so late, I think that's the selling point. The service needs to be improved, the cakes taste like they are molding or have been sitting for a long time. Another good breakfast. I didn't know what to expect with the total cost of goods being $6 more expensive than Boulis Cafe. When I opened my bag I knew why. The portions were huge. While I enjoyed the meal and would recommend Omonia Cafe to anyone I only have 2 gripes. I was asked if I wanted my spanikopita heated and I said no assuming that it was warm. Instead it was cold as refrigerated but not frozen. Also the bougatsa was more phyllo dough and lacking custard. The espresso was better here than at Boulis Cafe. I would prefer Boulis Cafe over Omonia Cafe cause while the portions are smaller there they pack more of a punch. My friends and I came here in the wee hours of New Years Day..and craving ice cream. This place had gelato, so I was excited I could get my fix so late! I got a double scoop of coffee and pistachio and my friends got a scoop of stracciatella. That gelato was disgusting! It had a grainy consistency and strange flavor and was definitely not worth the price we paid. I can say, the best thing we had during our experience there was their jug of ice water. I've been to this place a whole bunch and I really enjoy the atmosphere. During COVID they installed outdoor seating and currently have plastic sheltering over them. The service here is really good but it's a very casual place to go. I usually come here for dessert but I have a had savory dishes too. The savory dishes are usually solid but considering the neighborhood and the variety of options you have. The food isn't necessarily something I'd write home about. Although I do have friends and family who rave about their savory crepes. The prices are usually within the $12-18 range. The desserts are really good. The cakes and crepes taste really good and can be customized to include almost anything. I've tried the Prima Donna Crepe and it's always really good with a scoop of ice cream. I tried the Mud Pie (name could be wrong) sundae with coffee and vanilla ice cream and it was delicious definitely really sweet. Coffees here are also a hit as well. Fun fact: this was the bakery that made the cake for My Bog Fat Greek Wedding! Dessert/coffee prices range from about 6-12 dollars. Parking in the neighborhood isn't impossible; if you go at a late enough hour you can find free parking at the municipal lot under the 31st street subway. I wish the dining setting was a little more comfy; sometimes I feel like I'm sitting on top of other tables so I wish they'd address that. This place has gone down the Greek tubes. We walked in on a lovely Sunday and decided it would be a nice Greek diner experience. Ha! How foolish we were to think this! The service was slower than a turtle! We ordered a half pitcher of sangria and a tzatziki appetizer. All mistakes! One of our water glasses also had a crack and we had to ask twice for a new a glass. The sangria was so sugary I felt my blood sugar rise immediately. If there was ANY alcohol in this, I would be shocked. It was fruit juice and fruit for $30. They served a plate of sloppy tzatziki with FOUR small triangles of pita which left us with lots of tzatziki and no pita to eat it with, so we asked for more, as any sane person would do. They finally brought the extra pita out and guess what, they charged us an extra DOLLAR for an additional four small triangles of pita. What the actual hell? I can get an economy pack of pita at Titan foods for $5, you bunch of thieves! How about you tell us this beforehand? This place is a giant cafe with tons of places to sit. They let you pick wherever you feel comfortable sitting instead of showing you to a table. The service here was really great. The waitress was super friendly and offered great recommendations. They were attentive but also just let you sit in the cafe for as long as you wanted. We weren't rushed to leave even after we had paid the check. The spinach pie (homemade version) was really great! The bleu burger and penne ala vodka were okay. Omonia in my opinion is the best pastry shop you can visit in Astoria. When you go? Do not leave without enjoying a Cannoli. Also, make sure that you get a ice coffee along with it. Those 2 are my go-to orders and you'll never go wrong! Great place to hang out with friends or family and enjoy some coffee & pastries. Never have I ever felt more compelled to write a review. Christmas Day we walk into the resturant hoping to find a table and I'm very grateful they had space and were generous enough to take a party of 7 which I know can be quite a lot. My problem with this place. As soon as we walked in we noticed us getting a lot of uncomfortable stares. If ur a poc yk what looks. Which isn't necessarily a reflection on the place. They told us we could seat ourselves upstairs so we made our way. When we finally got our server he came to the table threw down 7 menus at the end of the table and didn't even bother to greet or say hello or anything for that matter. We had to great him first. The table was dirty so we asked him to wipe it down. He wiped all the crumbs on to my sister's lap... on Christmas and on her birthday. This was our last straw being that we would never get service and not tip and I couldn't fathom or bare the idea of tipping someone who couldn't even bother to great us and also giving money to this business . In the upstairs section there was also only 1 other table seated and another that came in after us which he spoke to and serviced first. When we got up to leave after just looking at the menus dude asked why we were leaving so fast almost felt like a joke. I was super excited to try out this cafe after walking past a few times with my partner, so I dragged him after dinner on Valentine's Day. There was a sign saying please seat yourself, so we did. It took awhile for someone to notice that we sat, it honestly felt like everyone was avoiding even looking at us. We were brought a little pitcher of water with 2 empty cups and no menus. The waiter set those down, didn't really say anything to us, and then immediately ran away never to be seen again. I waited even longer to even see someone else to flag them down for menus. To their credit, they did bring them right away. They too, however, also ran away like their pants were on fire. What if I had a question about the menu?? Was I supposed to ask a question and then wait again??? I got tired of the stupid cat and mouse game and just left with my partner. First time coming here on a Saturday evening. At first the place didn't seem too appealing since there weren't many people inside compared to the other restaurants on the block. But they had a wide range of menu options. Group of friends and I came in around 10pm on Memorial day - surprisingly enough they were open till 1 am. Place is spacious and uniquely decorated. Music is very lounge-like and has you mellowed out. Definitely get the cafe feel, almost romantic. Wasn't much people, but I've seen it get crowded. We ordered : Rainbow cookies Tiramisu cheesecake Cannolis Ekmek Macchiato coffee Everything was pretty good and spot on except the rainbow cookie. Tasted mediocre. I sat at the front waiting for service when finally a guy who was busing tables comes by and acknowledged me. The 2 desserts I requested they did not have and so I had to opt for the basic baklava and a Greek coffee. The baklava was so so soaked in way too much honey. The coffee was tiny! $13 for that seemed like a lot. The worst part was extremely slow service. No one checked on me. I requested water with no ice and a straw. The straw never came and no one asked about a water refill. Perhaps they need to hire more ppl who actively check on patrons especially given how large the place is and with outdoor seating. Omonia needs a makeover. Honestly, it used to be OKAY for a late night spot... now it's just not good. It is probably the only spot that stays open very late even on covid restrictions ... now that being said, I was not expecting the BEST food... but it's almost inedible. First of all the staff is just clueless.. they literally were running around like chickens with their heads cut off the last time I attended. Also, everyone seems to know they are the late night spot so it's EXTREMELY overcrowded. They never ever have tap beers advertised and they literally ran out of almost every cold bottled beer the night I attended. I've ordered the burger (gross definitely frozen) the spinach pie ( kind of edible but not good).. please don't get me started on the penne a la vodka or the pizza i ordered on my last visit cause it was just downright pitiful. Today I purchased a tsoureki bread in their cafe. Normally this sells for anywhere from $5 to $10 per unit when I used to get it at Titan. But Omonia sells bread by the pound! Never have I seen bread sold by the pound anywhere. I paid the ridiculous $16 price because it was a gift for my husband's mom, but never again. Total ripoff. Always passed by but never actually went in to try it. Loved the floor to ceiling windows along the sidewalk that make it look so inviting to go in. Walked in and felt it was a little dark (besides obviously along the windows). I think because the restaurant is super big and it's not super packed so they conserve some of the energy in the spots where there's no customers. I saw they have a back room too which looks like it could host some private parties, just an idea if you're interested. Came here during Lent Friday so couldn't have meat. California salad - all the ingredients mixed well together. Loved the pita bread addition. Fried calamari - the only dish we finished completely. Ended up asking for more tomato sauce. Avocado egg roll - ehh, kinda plain.. Sangria - nice wine taste to it and refreshing Overall it was good. Sometimes hard to find the waiter or waitress but once you had their attention, they were very helpful with whatever you needed or wanted. I think this place has potential but maybe just needs some sprucing up? Brighter lights, change of carpets, fresh coat of paint should do the trick. BTW, it's attached to the bakery next door. The only reason I give this place 3 stars is because I tried desserts from there twice and twice they were dry and as if stale. My favorite item from the menu is spinach pie though. Def try!
