    Orange Cake split in halfs
    Lena Y.

This is my first time trying portokalopita (Greek orange cake) and it was delicious! This cake was apparently recommended by NYT recently. It has a great honey eggy texture and orange zest. Thanks NYT!

Their amazing Spinach Pie!! I have already eaten half the Greek Salad. Couldn't control myself.

Omonia Cafe is my favorite Greek Restaurant ever!! It's also a restaurant that holds many memories. The location is on the corner of Broadway & 33rd Street in Astoria, Queens. Street parking is usually available if you don't live in walking distance. Close subway stops are also convenient. Omonia has an extensive menu. My choice is always the same. Their Homemade Spinach Pie served with Greek Salad is my ultimate comfort food. When my son lived in Astoria he would always meet me there immediately after my drive up from Coastal Virginia. Since I always procrastinated my departure till afternoon, their hours of operation, closing at 1:30am, were perfect for a leisurely dinner of Spinach Pie, Greek Salad & a Vodka Martini. Many times it was made even more delicious by ending dinner with their Baklava. When I was in Brooklyn in December my son took me on a nostalgia tour of some of old my favorite haunts. I was delighted to see that not only had Omonia survived the Pandemic, it was also exactly the same. We stopped for an early dinner. Yum...... Omonia has an extensive bakery counter selection. There is also a separate entrance for bakery goods. I've never tried any of their desserts or bakery items except the Baklava. My tastebuds have evolved into not liking anything super sweet. Service was excellent. The restaurant feel & decor is old school, like it has as long as I've been a patron. But it was filled with people of all ages, speaking well to its future. The many pages of food & drink options are varied enough to offer appeal to many, as does its late hour closing for the bar crowd. I'll always love you Omonia. You offer the perfect comfort food.

    Melenik Cake

My friend and I went here yesterday evening after dinner, we were in the mood for sweets and coffee. What caught our eye as we walked around was Omonia Cafe and their amazing cake & pastry selection. Upon arriving we were amazed at the variety. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. My friend was also in the mood to drink alcohol so we were amazed that they had alcohol as well and had a beautiful outdoor seating area. The ambiance was beautiful! It reminded me of a Rose Garden. I had the Cafe Frangelico, which was amazing. My friend had 2 Lychee Martinis. Then we shared the Melenik cake which was delicious! We will definitely be coming back again soon!

I looooooved the ambiance in this place. I've always wanted to come here and I finally got to! They are open late so it was perfect for a little treat after dinner with my husband. It was very spacious inside and it felt like I was at my friends house an just chilling with snacks in front of me. It felt very homey. The sweets were great for most of them!!!! Some were a little too sweet for me but I had a great time there. I would love to try their food next time!

I guess we had high expectation on the desserts here but got a bit disappointed. The cream in the cakes is too heavy. Not very impressed. However, Pork Souvlaki Platter is surprisingly good. The meat is tender and juicy. Good portion for the price. The vibe is casual. Good place for afternoon tea and dinner. The service is slow though. Hard to grab the waiter for check.

    Cappuccino

Came here for a quick cappuccino with a friend so we didn't try much options but our drinks didn't disappoint. Seems like a decent place to go out for a bite or meal. Our server did take awhile to get to us but overall, it was a pleasant experience. I love that they have bloody Mary's btw so I'll be back!

Romeo & Juliet Crepe (no Nutella)

Only visit this place when I am looking for something different. Definitely not a go-to place. Each time I go it is 3/4 empty and just random tables of Greek men sitting and BS-ing. The service is always mediocre at best. The waitress is very nice but not attentive. She is also often waiting tables by herself so not fastest service (not her fault). I got the Romeo & Juliet crepe which is slightly dense and thick (not typical crepe). I also ordered without the Nutella so the crepe itself was very dry. When I do this at other locations the crepe is usually still tasty. It is definitely packed with a lot of fruit. Cappuccinos are always good. I have never been really impressed with their pastries or desserts. As stated, not terrible enough to say I'll never be back, but only an option when I'm looking for a change.

    Espresso martini
    Josie T.

Omonia Cafe in Astoria is definitely a vibe! I've been on an espresso martini kick lately (shoutout to Sabrina Carpenter for that), and theirs did not disappoint--it was hands down the highlight of my night. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and just what I needed. I also tried the Ultimate Burger, and wow--it was juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly how I wanted. Honestly, one of the better burgers I've had in a while. The only downside? It took a bit too long to get our check at the end, which was a little annoying, but not enough to ruin the night. Overall, great food, great drinks, and a solid spot. Would definitely come back!

As I said it's a snug spot. Definitely make reservs if you want a table. After a certain age I realized I may need a seat. LOL. The crowd also tends to be a little more mature, so if you're 30+ and looking for an older crowd, this may be your type of place. The food selection, however, is pretty limited, and the music really seems to depend on which DJ is there. Some DJs are good and others are just okay. The last time I went was Wednesday, July 29, and while I had an okay time, the DJ really wasn't all that. My biggest concern, though, is the liquor. My usual drink is Grey Goose or Tito's with soda water. I drink this regularly at home and at other places without waking up with a headache. Both times I visited The Record Room, I specifically ordered Grey Goose with soda water, and both times I woke up with a significant headache. The first time, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured it could have been a coincidence. That's actually one of the reasons I was willing to go back. Unfortunately, the exact same thing happened after my second visit. I obviously cannot confirm what was actually poured, but because this has happened both times at this particular establishment, it does make me question whether I was actually being served the liquor I requested and paid for. When you're paying top-shelf prices, you should feel confident that you're receiving the brand you ordered. Overall: nice ambiance, mature crowd, limited food options, hit-or-miss DJs, and unfortunately a liquor experience that has now left me questioning what I was served twice. For those reasons, 2 out of 5 stars for me.

The biggest question then became, where to go? We needed a place that was relatively easy to get to that would hold close to 100 people. Jungly was a contender for several reasons - it's location, size, vibe, and menu all seemed to check off. It also helped that I had done business with the owner previously at one of his other spots. It seemed like the natural choice, so I went ahead with the booking. Jungly is located in LIC - it's a pretty convenient spot as its close to the LIRR and the subway. Parking can be a challenge, but luckily I found a spot only a block away. The space itself is nicely set up - walking in you're immediately greeted by the bar area with dining areas both to the left and the right. Due to our size, they closed the place to the public and we were able to freely roam the bar area and one of the dining rooms. In addition to standard tables, they have some lounge space and high tops by the bar. The vibe is somewhat modern - a black/grey color scheme paired with neon and golds. It looks like the space could easily be converted to a club-like atmosphere. Since we were here for a private event, the food was set up buffet style - we chose three apps, four mains, and two sides. Ultimately, for apps we chose pita bread with dips, steak tacos, and shrimp tacos. For mains we chose fried chicken sliders, smashed beef sliders, cacio e pepe, and roasted chicken. For sides, we got fries and Brussels sprouts. In general, all of the food was tasty; the strongest dishes were the tacos, fries, and the chicken tacos. The tacos were generously filled, the fries were the crispy skin style, and the chicken sliders were nice and crispy. The weakest for me was the cacio e pepe - not much flavor and just not really a standout IMO. My communication with management to set up the event were a little staccato, though in the end everything worked out. For the most part, my communication with them was consistent in the days leading up to the event. Service the night of the event was overall good - they were very accessible but I found that they could have replenished the food a little faster in response to the rate it was being taken from the buffet. The bar, on the other hand, was great - both in service and variety of liquor available. Overall, we had a great event at Jungly. They were professional, fair, and delivered on the goods. I would definitely consider hosting another event there, or dine here on my own.
