The food was delicious! I was surprised that I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi. Was not expecting Fresno to be a place where I had great sushi. But it was memorable, both in flavor but also in the amount of options. As someone who is allergic to seafood, it was tough to find anything without shrimp/crab but thankfully you can ask them to make a roll without it, which helped. We had some baked sushi, some tempura, and some traditional Sushi. It came out to around $50 per person after a couple drinks each. The place was almost empty, which is sad because the food was great (it sounds like it's more popular as a lunch or post work spot) we came for dinner on a weekday. Would recommend! read more

Every time I come here, the vibes are chill, the staff is super friendly, and the food is I had the Honey Habanero Roll and the Salmon Delight Roll, both packed with flavor, but that honey habanero sauce? ‍ I loved it so much I asked for extra! I'm a spicy girl, so that hit the spot. But wait! The DRINKS. Let's just say, they do NOT play with the margaritas here. I love the vibe of this spot but not the best sushi I've had. If I was in the area and wanted sushi maybe I will stop by but not a spot I will crave to go back to. The sashimi salad the dressing was too light and it tasted like I was just eating plain lettuce with sashimi lol I had to ask for more sauce. Also the pieces of sashimi was huge, I felt like they could've cut it some more. The scorching 911 was good and had a nice kick to it, we added on jalapeños. The golden tiger was cool too. I was skeptical on the idea of Mexican sushi but it was late downtown area and was hungry. Staff were quick to seat us because it wasn't that busy. I assume alot of people have lunch here. The ambiance was festive and had music on. There's a bar all the way to the back. So we ordered scorching 911, golden tiger and assorted sashimi salad. The scorching roll was really spicy and the golden tiger was good. The assorted sashimi salad was dressed with ponzu sauce and the sashimi slices are pretty large. On a Roll - Mexican & Japanese Bar absolutely crushed it. From the moment we sat down, the sushi chef made us feel less like customers and more like friends just stopping by to eat and hang out. He personally recommended the Salmon Delight Roll, and wow... hands down one of the best rolls I've had -- fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. We started with the Heart Attack appetizer and it lived up to the name in the best way: spicy, creamy, and so worth the bang for the buck. For sharing, we also ordered the Alaskan roll and shrimp tempura, which were both on point and disappeared way too fast. Our host/server was just as awesome -- super friendly, showed us their Instagram, and funny enough recommended the same roll as the chef... so you know it's legit. I'm T1 diabetic and ignored my glucose monitor as I was in meetings in Downtown Fresno. Long story short, my glucose was at 44 and I barely made it in to On A Roll Sushi. We really enjoyed this place! It's right down the street from the Grand 1401. We sat at the bar and met the owner. She was very hospitable and told us all the best things to order. Tried the Heart Attack app (think jalepeno popper) and the Mar y Tierra roll (tempura fried roll with steak and shrimp). I asked for a crunch roll and they just deep fried a California roll Hot avocado and all's Tastes like grocery store sushi now. Really sad because I use to love coming here . I had the edamame app. I didn't care for as they were over cooked. I had the lobster roll. They do not have fresh crab and only use imitation. When the plate came out the 5-6 prices of the roll was topped with tempura battered lobster. It looked delicious. The roll was mainly filled with crab and scant amount of cucumber and avocado. The crispy lobster was not lobster. I'm not sure what it was, but it didn't resemble or taste like lobster. Was the "lobster" bad? No, it just wasn't lobster. The service was great and the servers nice. Would I try again? No. But I would encourage others to try it as I have only been once. read more

I asked for eel sauce on top cause it doesn't come with it and I love that stuff. The roll was good; has a little spice to it because of the spicy sauce on it. Last week i was in Fresno for work. Unfortunately in the downtown area, many of the restaurants close as early as 7pm so after 7 the options start to get limited. On a Roll Sushi was basically a pivot since the place we wanted to go to was closing soon and we didnt want to be that guy who would come in 5 mins before closing because you know your getting the leftover scraps which isnt a good thing when it comes to raw fish. I ended up ordering the Chirashi bowl which from a portion perspective was pretty decent as it came with a bowl of soup and salad and the fish portions were a decent size. I think my only real issue is that some of the sashimi felt and tasted partially frozen so it didnt have the right texture nor taste. I know that all sushi these days is frozen first but i guess with the limited amount of guest this place gets, figuring out how much fish to prepare to minimize waste can be a challenge. Honestly i was happy that there were some asian options in the area other than a panda express. Maybe next time ill just stick to rolls instead of sashimi. read more
