I came here for my friend's birthday. Someone in our party came by early and put our name down, and we waited for a total of two hours. They told us that there was a likelihood that some parties ahead of us might drop out, but we came by around an hour after initially, putting our name down just in case we were called. The service was extremely friendly! The staff was so apologetic for the long wait even though it's not their fault. We came with a party of nine and got sat by the entrance at two tables that were placed together, although there were two separate iPads, one for each table. We noticed that all of the orders came out for just one table, and then 45 minutes later, all the orders for the second table came out. Two orders from the second table were also missing. Luckily, we ordered mostly the same thing, but we had to resolve this with our waiter. Solving the issue was quick, but it was confusing to not have all our food come out at once; I wish they treated us as two individual tables in terms of food and what we ordered since we ordered separately and had a few different items. The bill also came out altogether and I wish we were asked if we could've done it separately. Makgeolli: We were expecting the bottle, but it came in a beautiful pitcher with matching cups. I love this drink. Chicken platter: This was one of the forgotten items from our order. We had so much food that we considered stopping the order, but someone in our group did not like seafood, so this was going to be his main dish. When it came out, I didn't expect it to be so massive! It's literally a huge plank of 3 flavors of chicken. I think there were six or seven pieces per flavor. Although I was full, I decided to try one of each flavor, and I'm so glad I did. The breading was perfectly crispy and not too flaky, like it didn't separate from the chicken nor was it too thick. And the meat was very moist! I was surprised it was only $20. Bossam: This was the other forgotten item. It was presented beautifully. I wish there was more cabbage that came with it, but besides that, all the flavors came together well. I liked how it had raw garlic and peppers. The thickness of the meat was at my preference, not too thick and also bite-sized, not too long. Rosé tteokbokki: This was a hit. It reminds me of vodka sauce with its tomato flavor. It was creamy and cheesy. I liked the fish cake and quail eggs in it. Raw marinated crab: I've had crab from Hongdae and Hankook supermarket, and I have yet to try it from places in SoCal, but let me tell you... This was the best raw marinated crab I've ever had so far. It was not fishy at all. The shell was also soft enough to squeeze out the meat easily. I probably spent the most time on this dish. It was so tasty with rice! Kimchi pancake: Pretty standard pancake. I like how it's reasonably priced unlike some other restaurants in the area, who charge like $20 for it. This was $9.99. If I could remove anything from the numerous items we ordered, it would be this one, but it was just because it was basic. Bulgogi soup: The soup was massive and delicious. At the end, it got quite sweet. It was great to drink it to wash down our other foods. The sides were delicious. Everything was presented beautifully. The decoration of the shop is stunning. It feels elevated. At the end of the night, we brought out a cake for my friend. We bought it in advance from a bakery and gave it to the front before we waited in line so we could surprise my friend. It was a great celebration. Overall we had a great experience here and it was worth the wait. I think we paid around $40-something per person with tax and tip included. The interior was clean and Asian modern.  I was very impressed with the menu book, it opens up from the center like traditional Asian doors.  With brass ring hardware handles.   This surely elevated our expectations for the rest of the meal. Choice of complimentary water or hot tea. Also 5 complimentary Banchans with refills.  My favorite was the seasoned tofu skin. Seafood Kalguksu - huge bowl of noodle soup.  Hand pulled noodles were chewy, soup was yummy, 2 large prawns, but rest of seafood was sparse. I've been seeing the hype about Ondam lately, so me and my friend decided to go give it a try. Our outcomes were pretty much the same -- we were thrilled and blown away by the food and the experience! Here's my experience with this place thus far: We went around 12pm to the restaurant -- during which, the parking wasn't too full yet. However, it did become hard to find parking later on. We were seated right away, which is quite usual at Ondam but I guessed it happened for a reason. We were given an introduction to a few of the selections that we wanted to get for lunch, which I found it to be REALLY helpful. Spicy Marinated Crab: me and my friend were BLOWN away by how gelatinous and coated the spice was, on top of the texture of the crab. It wasn't overbearing, but it also wasn't too hard to suck out the meat either. I'd give it a 9/10 because the only improvement they could have made was the consistency of the coating -- it wasn't really FULLY there yet. Octopus Sot Bap: I got scared thinking that this would have been one of the most DELIGHTFUL rice bowls EVER. For almost $35, you'll let out a big sighs because we could definitely taste how velvety and consistent it was even with the fried eggs and all that. And to top it all off with a wonderful experience, I was given a wonderful RICE drink, given the portions looked a little plain. I tried Ondam for the first time on a Saturday early evening, probably after seeing it on Instagram because that's where I get a lot of my restaurant reccs these days. We had a party of 7 people and they were able to seat us promptly once everyone arrived. Ondam has a nice atmosphere with modern decor and some beautiful details. It's darker & loud inside, so definitely keep this in mind. The restaurant has little partitions that almost form rooms around tables, but this does very little for the noise. Overall, I thought the food was tasty and well-prepared, but unfortunately we had a few issues with the service. FOOD WE ORDERED Ondam Chicken Platter ($21.99) -- appreciated the assortment of chicken flavors. I thought the batter was a little thick. Appreciated the presentation on the long wooden board, but this presented some problems (see below). Chicken Kalguksu ($19.99) --very soothing soup. tasty, but nothing special. maybe I need to try one of the other versions with a more interesting protein. Ondam Bossam ($41.99) --Tasty with addition of an interesting radish, but we did not like how the lettuce serving was limited, and they charged for refill lettuce. Not the bossam I was expecting with napa cabbage. Japchae ($19.99) --I know it's just japchae, but this was one of my favorite dishes. It was saucy and I could taste the oily fried flavor suggesting it was cooked at very high heat. Yubu Gimbap ($9.99) --this is a vegetarian gimbap. It was pretty standard. Bulgogi Gimbap ($12.99) --pretty standard. Mushroom Sot Bap ($22.99) --kind of reminded me of a rice pilaf. Very fragrant and buttery but really a just rice with mushrooms. The quantity of food was just about right for our party of 7. SERVICE It started off strong but had some hiccups. Pros: Getting a table was easy, the staff were really helpful about coming to refill our water. Cons: We heard two dishes shatter during the time we were there. Once was near the kitchen, and one occurred when the server tried to set the large Ondam Chicken wooden platter down and it landed on top of one of our drinking glasses. I think the main issue is that the table space is limited, and the serving dishware is too big. It took a little while for the staff to figure out how to clean up the shattered glass, hold the chicken platter, and dry the table area after the water spilled. We also felt very rushed by a server to leave once we paid our bill and were finishing up our food, probably because at this point there were more people waiting. Soft opening for Ondam! Plenty of parking in the front lot on a Tuesday at lunch hour! There's also street parking in the back and side street. When arriving at the restaurant, the ambiance is already really nice. You're greeted by large imperial looking double doors and the inside feels cozy and even somehow private with the spacing of the tables and beams in between. The menu has cute little doors on the front cover too! But to the important stuff, the food! My friend and I ordered the Oyster bossam (never seen this before so I had to try it!), the beef tartare, and the cheese tteok. They were out of the assorted pancakes, boo! But definitely want to come back to try the pancakes and one of the Sotbap. Oyster bossam is so interesting! It came with plenty of raw oysters and pork slices for two people. It also had the traditional kimchi, jalapeños, and garlic. They only though, provided three leaves of lettuce which I found to be difficult to spare with the amount of meat given to us. We asked for more, but fair warning, they charge $5 for a plate of lettuce/some cabbage/carrot and cucumber sticks. They did however, provide us with some rice. We were appreciative of the amount of veggies given for the rest of the dish, but I would probably just stick to the rice next time. Otherwise the dish was very delicious! But in my opinion, the oyster overpowers the pork when eaten together as a roll and I would go with the traditional bossam next time. Beef tartare was really good! Fresh and I think a good portion. I really loved the Jamaica that comes with it! It was refreshing and sweet! I personally really liked the cheese tteok! It's literally crispy fried tteokbokki with condensed milk and a slab of cheese on top but it's so good! It's sweet but savory and chewy. I would get this again! At the end of the meal, our server brought us two cups of this sweet tea and a small sweet chewy cookie. It was a great way to end the meal! Overall I think Ondam is on the right track! We ended up ordering: - Tuna mayo kimbap 2/5: the tuna was actually quite dry, barely tasted any mayo, and the rolls were thinly cut. Update! I came here again, but just with my boyfriend this time. We had a great experience once again! Pollack Roe Sot Bap(5/5): I really liked the amount of roe they gave and how well everything was put together! The little carrot flower decorated on top was cute as well! I will say that this dish is better eaten the day of. I had some leftover the next day it wasn't as good. It's because I heated it up which caused the roe to be fully cooked. Ondam Chicken Platter(4/5): It came with 3 flavors I believe (sweet&spicy, soy garlic, and kkanpung). I thought the chicken pieces were huge and some pieces felt like there was more breading. I thought some of the flavors were saltier than the other, but the chicken was tender! The sauce that came with it was sweet, so I wasn't too into it. The pickled radish was a nice addition to any korean fried chicken, so it was enjoyable and quite the palate cleanser! Service(5/5): The service was out of this world! Came in Saturday at ~1pm and got seated immediately as they had some tables to spare. We ordered: - Bulgogi gimbap, which was really good on its own. The sesame oil flavor shines through, but dipping the gimbap into the spicy sauce of the side dishes adds an extra oomph in flavor. I later dipped it into the marinade the raw crabs came in, which was phenomenal. - Seafood Kalguksu. The broth was rich in seafood flavor and salty, balanced by the thick and chewy noodles. - Spicy Raw Marinated Crab! This dish was what drew us to this place! The marinade was sweet, salty and spicy. It was thick and coated the crab pieces really well. Highly recommend this dish if you're okay with raw seafood and a bit of spice. I was genuinely surprised with the amount of crab pieces we got! Note: They don't provide take-out containers for leftover raw marinated crab as consuming the dish outside the restaurant has a higher risk of foodborne illnesses. All in all this place was decent. The service was very attentive. The Interior was a clean modern aesthetic, but with an Asian spin with the little details. Finally caved in after seeing this all over tiktok. We came in on a Friday night around 10pm, and had to wait a little to get seated. Interior of the place was really nice. We ordered everything to share--cheese tteok, eggplant tofu, kimchi fried rice, jjambbong jeongol, cheese gimbap, and chicken platter. We thought some of the appetizers tasted pretty good. The eggplant tofu was disappointing tho. It only came in four pieces when the photo on the menu had so much more; wasn't worth it for the price. Pretty expensive for the food and portion size you get. They have many other stuff on the menu to try, but I can't justify paying that much for the quality/quantity. I had hoped for a new premium Korean restaurant, but I have mixed feelings on this one. Decent quality food marred by bad service. I can only hope that this issue corrects itself when the hype dies down a bit. The restaurant is quite nicely decorated, and the menu is cute and opens toward you like a door. From ordering, it took 10 minutes to get the bossam, 35 minutes for the sot bop, and 45 minutes for the seafood pancake and the galbi-jjim/beef short ribs, so the wait for the food was definitely on the longer side (closing in quickly on unacceptably long - even a warning of long cook times would be appreciated). In fact, we were asked if we were ready to close out our check after having only received one dish (I suppose we were quite bored with no food to eat for so long). The bossam was well cooked and not too fatty, not too lean, although they only have radish wraps (I'd expected lettuce, but no big deal). The brisket sot bop was very chewy (they did warn us when we ordered and recommended (or, tried to upsell us on, your interpretation) the steak instead) but it was quite tender and savory, and the rice crisped quite nicely on the metal bowl (it's deceptively deep!). The seafood pancake, however, was a strange mix of overcooked and undercooked, with the dough being runny in some places and the seafood being well done in others. The beef short ribs/galbi-jjim was disappointingly small for $65 - don't expect something like Daeho. I think there were about 6-8 ribs max, which is shareable enough, and it was cooked well. I hope they become less busy, as it's hard to see a 4/5 food restaurant undermined by 2.5/5 service. For what it's worth, a table of Korean speaking adults did get seated after us and served before us. Unlucky. read more

Parking is limited because Ondam is in a small little plaza that shares a lot with other stores. I guess you could street park? For a party of 4 on a Sunday night, we had to wait around 30-40 ish minutes? My friend went early and put our name down and was there about 10 minutes before me? The ambiance is a bit loud, but the decor feels elevated. Food Chicken: really great to share with multiple people! I also love dishes with variety, and between 4 people, we felt like we were all able to get just enough of each type of chicken. Bossam: my first time having this! It was overall a very pork-y dish. Pay $5 extra if you want "radish" but I think there was miscommunication--apparently it was $5 for the lettuce and perilla leaves? Still unsure. Tofu Stew: this was a glorified vegetable soup. Skip... I've had much better for much cheaper, too. Lacked flavor; super watery. Rice cakes/tteokbokki: skip. Watery, no flavor. Overall, this place felt like a nice place to catch up with friends. My partner and I had dinner here after seeing so many posts about it on Instagram and TikTok and while I agree with the content creators that this place serves delicious spicy Korean crab and spicy tofu soup, the service needs a lot of work. My partner and I ordered spicy Korean crab, seafood tofu soup without green onions and mixed tofu soup as is. What arrived at our table was spicy Korean crab and mushroom tofu soup without green onions. We tried to tell our waitress that she had our order incorrect and told her what we ordered. She took the mushroom tofu soup back and brought out mixed tofu soup without green onions and seafood tofu soup as is. At that point in the evening, my partner and I had waited too long to send it back again so we told her that she had still gotten our order incorrect. She was apologetic but she didn't come back to check up on us during our meal at all. She also didn't give us the sweet rice punch dessert at the end of our meal. All in all, the food was delicious and I would be willing to give it another shot but I won't be recommending it to any of my friends anytime soon. This older lady who took our order only offered us iced water when I saw every other table had tea which I wanted, then I realized table with non Korean customer also had water. I've been to Ondam now and so far have enjoyed the food and my experience there although I personally wouldn't wait more than 30min. This place is relatively new but already quite popular so there's usually a line if you're going there during prime dining hours. The first time I went, we had to wait almost an hour. The second time I went around 5 or 5:30 and was able to get seated right away. The parking lot is quite small so it can at times be a challenge to find parking in the plaza. The restaurant itself isn't too big but has a nice and modern ambiance to it and I liked the vibes of the restaurant. I tried their braised beef ribs, chicken platter, beef+vege wood steamer, and the bulgogi sot bap so far. The braised beef ribs was pretty good, but wish it had rice cakes like some of the other places. Chicken platter was also decent and a good item to share if you have a big group. I also enjoyed the bulgogi sot bap although it was on the saltier side. Lastly, I was not super impressed with the wood steamer, as there wasn't anything super special other than the food being steamed and the beef got pretty tough when we tried it. The only good thing about the wood steamer was the broth where all the flavors is concentrated at the bottom, and you could add noodles to it if you ask. The one thing that I think Ondam has done really well, is the service of their staff, and this has stood out to me both times I was there. When we ordered the sot bap, the soup it came with was a bit spicy for me, and the waitress overheard and brought me a different soup instead even though I told her it was fine. That experience really stood out and I don't think I've been treated so nicely at any other Korean restaurants in the past. We are genuinely so lucky this place exists. It's the only late-night Korean restaurant that is open past 11pm, that doesn't have the vibes of a bar/pocha, doesn't have overpriced food (same price as most Korean restaurants), doesn't nickel and dime you (free barley tea, free sikhye for dessert), and serves regular traditional dishes. This restaurant is serving vibess. Love the atmosphere and can confidently say there is no other place that looks like this in the Bay Area. Service was good. They were quick to refill drinks and clear plates off the table. Food was overall decent - there were some hits and some misses. - Cheese Tteok: 4/5 pretty good! Its a tteok mozzerella stick topped with cheese and condensed milk. - Banchan: 5/5 - flavors were really good! - Chicken platter: 4/5 - flavors were good but not sure if there was anything special about this spot vs. other korean chimek spots - Oyster bossam: 3/5 - the bossam was good but the oysters didn't taste fresh. Also, felt like it was a weird combo but thats just personal taste! - Jjampong Kalguksu: 5/5 - The broth had a stronger squid flavor but the balance of the spiciness and seafood-flavors were good. Noodles were perfectly chewy and there was a good amount of seafood in the soup. Overall - Would recommend if you're looking for a unique dinner spot in the Bay! read more

They opened recently! Inside restaurant were very clean and modern Korean decoration. We ordered Korean traditional Tteokbokki, Bulgogi gimbap, tuna gimbap, tofu soup and steak sot bap. I really liked Tteokbokki here. They had gimmari inside Tteokbokki and are not too spicy. Gimbap was beautiful and good! Rice comes in the nice hot stone pot. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I asked about gimmari because I didn't know what the thing was before, and he thought us about it. Highly recommend and I will come back to try different food as well! read more

This place is so popular!! The wait was quite long but the food was pretty good! We got the bossam, the tofu soup, and also we got Kimbap. The bossam was seasoned really well. It came along with garlic, jalapeño, samjang, shrimp paste, rice paper and pickled dishes. I thought this was the best dish out of all the other items we picked. This also comes with two rice bowls. Unfortunately, there's no purple rice! For the tofu soup we had the combination, it was pretty good! Tasted pretty standard to me and the kimbap as well tasted pretty standard to me!! :-) I normally get tofu soup at Korean restaurants so it was pretty good and it came with a pot of rice on the side. The only thing I have to say that I'm disappointed in, is that their bossam photo is misleading. In the menu, there's a photo of ssam (lettuce/cabbage/wrap) with the bossam. Therefore I thought it came along with the item. When the food came out I asked the staff where's the cabbage, since it usually comes with bossam! And they mentioned it's an additional $5 dollars. I mentioned that in the photo it's deceiving because it has it... they apologize and that was fine. I asked if the ssam was enough for 4 people and they said yes. When it came out the portions were quite small I think each of us only had 3 lettuce each lol. Would not recommend getting the lettuce unless it's for two people. The ambiance is quite nice inside as well, it looks very modern, and as mentioned earlier, it's extremely bustling. Overall 3.5/5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. Ondam Santa Clara - Chicken Platter ( Serves 3-4 People ) - Flavors: Sweet & Spicy, Soy Garlic, and & Kkanpung - Super juicy boneless chicken very flavorful! - My favorite is the soy garlic Jjambbong Kalguksu Soup Noodles - Comes with: Noodle, Octopus, Clams, Shrimp, Squid, Green onion Zucchini, Bokchoy, Mugwort, Egg, Seaweed - The soup base is like mild medium spicy and has good seafood hint in it. - The noodles are thick and soft with all sorts of seafood and veggies! Everything is decent but nothing is amazing. 3.5/5 Beef tartare bibimbap - 3/5 The gochujang mixture they gave was too sweet and there wasn't enough sesame oil. I wouldn't say the beef and vegetables were "fresh". Oyster bossam - 3/5 It's actually bossam and a lot of oysters. Might sound good if you like both but the oysters were definitely not fresh but the pork was nice and soft although I prefer it cut larger maybe because I wish there was a bit more pork/bossam flavor? Texture was nice, flavor was eh Chicken plate - 3/5 Looks cool, nicely presented, but the marinades were basic and the chicken itself along with the breading was lacking. Side dishes - 5/5 Solid set of side dishes and the kimchi is good. Again, not amazing but good. Jjampong kalguksoo - 4/5 This was pretty good. So far the only thing I would come back for (along with the kimchi pancake!). The noodles felt/tasted hand made? The broth had lots of flavor. Overall it's rated as 4 stars on Yelp as the place itself had a nice atmosphere and modern look while the food was still decent. read more
