We came for a wedding reception with 40 plus people. The lobster ravioli wasn't as great as I thought it would be however the opus pasta was delicious! This restaurant sits inside a hotel and unless you want to get lost, make sure to ask for directions before you head over. It's a very upscale setting and the ambiance is very relaxing. Both Opus Restaurants have been disappointing, but Opus Bistro was the worst of both. The crab cake was slightly larger than an Oreo cookie, served at room temperature, and smelled awful. The Red Snapper, shrimp, and crab plate was served the same way. The shrimp were "rubbery" leaving a feeling that it was microwaved. Finally, walking through a dark, unlit, unoccupied restaurant to get to this one is a terrible customer experience. Very, very disappointed. Over-rated and over-priced. read more

New Year's Eve was a bust. I was not informed when I called for a dinner reservation that a Pre Fixe menu at $95 per person was the ONLY option available that evening. After we got there, found out that the regular menu was unavailable and the sticker shock settled in, I regret to say that the meal and its presentation was totally underwhelming. The shrimp cocktail was 5 shrimp on a plate with a cup of cocktail sauce. The medallion of tenderloin beef (not a filet) was acceptable, the lobster tail was good, but the red snapper was totally tasteless. The vegetable medley was unappetizing as well. At the very least I would expect a glass of champagne to be included for a meal at that price, but no alcohol was included. I feel you need to know this as we have always been satisfied customers in the past and last night's service was fine, but this meal was very disappointing. Please make it your policy to inform people when they call for a reservation whether the regular menu is available and if not. the cost of a Pre Fixe meal. I felt we were blind-sided. read more

Don't order a drink from the bar!!! Bartenders wears their face coverings down at the chin or neck not up around their mouth or face. Bearded bartender wiped his hands over his mouth and down his beard and didn't wash his hands before making the next drink. Female bartender wears mask down on the chin while muddling berries and basil leaves for a drink all while breathing down into the cup. When brought to Corey's attention, his only response was they should have their face covered but didn't bother to mention that to his employees during his 3 trips behind the bar to talk with them. This a very classy looking place good for a birthday, special occasion or if you just feel like eating some good food. It is casual but it could definitely be the kind of place you could dress up. There is a nice view of the lake. Our waiter Sonny was nice and friendly and was very attentive. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass on top of spinach, with asparagus and sliced tomatoes. My husband ordered the red snapper. We were very pleased with our selections. I recommend the appetizer called the Coquille St. Jaques (i think thats how it was spelled) which is sauteed scallops and shrimp with creamy potatoes in a creamy mushroom sauce. The scallops were very tender, not rubbery. We came here to eat on a whim because I was craving seafood and they really delivered. I did not get to try any dessert. There is a very good wine and spirits menu with a variety of options. We will definitely make room for dessert next time! read more

Opus Bistro advertises itself as an upscale restaurant but the food is not of high quality and not prepared well. There is obviously a cook but definitely not a chef. The waitstaff is inexperienced. This is a shame because it is located in a nice area and a high end restaurant is sorely needed in the area. many of the dishes are the same as the tired Opus Ocean menu. Had a local colleague come here as he wanted to "splurge"iand had never been. So I checked it out, figured what I would have before I got there and off we went. Seems like a good spot on the water which both of us tend to enjoy. Located on Clear Lake fairly close to the boardwalk on the south east side of Kemah, it was a pretty hard place to find but on he water and does cater to the yachting crowd . The front door looks like a warehouse door with one light and no-name but once you walk inside you were right in the middle of the dining room with the bar to the left. Upscale, classy place, it was like we stepped off the street and and into a warehouse converted into a really nice bistro style upscale eatery. Their specialty was seafood but had a wide selection of steaks including steak Diane and other inviting entrées as well as Stone crab, a wonderful lobster bisque and just a few fish dishes offered per evening. We started light with just a salad and French onion soup which were both well presented and good. Nothing too exciting but a good start. Good wine selection, no draft beer only bottles so we had a beer and then ordered our entrée. I opted for the crabcake entrée while my partner got the snapper cowboy I think. The crabcakes were absolutely terrific! Large very meaty and very little filling with the sauce on the side and fresh vegetables mixed in with sautéed potatoes and some steamed spinach. It was fairly rich so I didn't eat much of the sauce because the crabcake stood on its own and was again fantastic. Highly recommend!!!!! The snapper with sautéed with a light batter in a seemingly butter wine sauce also with the spinach and potatoes and was a very good preparation of snapper. Kind of rich, but also light and tasty. We did not have reservations which I would highly recommend because the table seating is limited and we were told it would be 30 minutes so we sat at the bar. Had great service from the two girls behind the bar and had a great view outside of the sailboats docked near the outside patio. It really wasn't that pricey but I'm sure had we ordered a bottle of wine and taken full advantage of what the restaurant, we could've spent some cash. Seemed to be a local crowd that all knew each other but as a boater I thought the place was quite good. Ending my trip this week to Houston so looking forward to coming back to find even more fine eateries If we come here again it would definitely be by boat and probably in the summer. read more

I really wanted to like this restaurant. The ambiance is nice with a view of the water. Very upscale looking interior. The drinks were pretty good but pricy which is about what I expected. However the food was was VERY bland and hard to eat. I ordered the Opus pasta which was around $30. The menu states it comes with a white wine sauce, but I'm pretty sure it was just served in the oil and water it was boiled in. Zero sauce or seasoning on the shrimp and scallops. I ended up just tossing my leftovers because I dreaded eating the rest. I would definitely recommend picking a different restaurant in the area for your special occasions. read more

ADORED this place. The ambiance was nice, it is 2 story and upstairs was better for us because it was not nearly as loud as downstairs. (we were celebrating an anniversary) It is off of a little waterway which makes it accessible by boat, it looked a bit narrow for some of those boats coming and going but they pulled it off and it was fun watching. We were able to see the fireworks in the distance upstairs looking out the window that was cool. I had the soft shell crab dish and the crabs were large and it was very good, it would be nice to have a lighter crust on it though. My companion had the Tile Fish special which we both thought was delicious. The lump crab on it was very fresh as well. My only thing was the side dishes we had were kind of boring and outdated. Lyanaise potatoes and green beans=boring in comparison to the rest of the food. It was nothing to make a complaint about, it didn't taste bad it was just underwhelming. We had a great time and plan to come back with a group of friends next time. PS everyone there seemed to be having a great time, several people near us were also talking about how much they enjoyed the food. I think this place has a great following!!!! read more

The restaurant itself is hard to find if you park in front of the hotel. Drive around back by the yachts and you'll find it. We entered through the hotel and it was nearly deserted at 6:00 pm. It was a little disconcerting. We ran into the manager/host as we wandered around the empty tables looking for help. He seated us right away and we got bread and water. Weirdly, the waitress and staff were very awkward about putting the plates and water down, which lead me to believe they weren't all that experienced. Our server was very nice. We ordered drinks and they were served quickly. The sourdough bread was warm and delicious. We ordered appetizers and came specifically for the coquille st Jacques. My escargot should have been delicious but was actually quite bland and butter soaked. Definitely would not recommend. My husband said the his appetizer was good, but didn't taste the way coquille st Jacques should taste. My son ate all of his though and said it was good. Neither one liked the mashed potatoes that came with it. I had the strip steak which was very good, and cooked to perfection, and the sides were delicious. It came with roasted potatoes and sautéed Brussels sprouts and I think the sides change depending on the day. Most of the menu items included shellfish, so if you have an allergy, expect to eat steak or chicken Alfredo. The deserts were okay. We had the chocolate cake with ice cream, key lime pie and bananas foster, which was cold. The key lime has a very strong lime taste. Total bill: $300. It's pricey. In the end, the two older people were up all night with heart burn. read more

Hubby and o decided to try this place out. The place is nice, service was okay. Drinks were good, you can't mess up on wine! Food - meh! I got lobster ravioli with lobster tail on top. Sounds great, right?! I have bought lobster ravioli from Costco that was better. Food was not hot and dried out ravioli. Lobster tail on top was very rubbery. My hubs got the Snapper Charlie Brown and potatoes. The fish was over cooked, brown on the inside and tasted like they used the same pan from the pork chop pan. The Brussels Sprouts were horrible! When they say you can share a side, there were about 5 spouts and the rest onions. I've never had Brussels Sprouts taste like pure vinegar. We didn't bother to try any desserts. 2 star for the inside and view. Food - nope. Won't be coming back for food. Disappointed read more

My husband and I have been here a few times in the last month and we never leave disappointed. The food is good and I have found a bottle of wine that I like and it is reasonably priced. I feel I get my money's worth here and that's a major plus for me. I don't like eating at a restaurant and then leaving feeling I could have made everything I ate better than the restaurant. Food Good Service Bad What has happened to the lost art of good and formal service at upscale restaurants? It took several minutes for the hostess to look up from her reading to acknowledge our present and then couldn't find our reservation. Someone from the kitchen delivered the food, not the waiter that took the order. This person stood between the guest, asking who got what and then began dealing out food like a deck of cards. Simple training: serve to the left, clean to the right; knife and fork parallel to each other, handles at 5 o'clock, means you can clear the plate don't have to ask. You waiter should be attentive. You should not have to look for them or ask another waiter to find them. Upscale restaurants should be an upscale experience. read more

I will probably return, the service was great! I made a reservation for 5 people but got ditched so it was just two. They were very nice and accommodating,didnt bother them at all that we had some changes. We sat outside and it was nice except there was water running off the roof and if I had been seated another 2 inches over it would have drenched me, instead it got my purse, thankfully not inside it. I got a martini with a twist, my hubby chose the gin but whatever it was they did it tasted like salt water with vermouth. I asked if maybe they added olive juice (I know some places do). And was told no. I ordered another with a different gin and it was much better. I ordered the new York steak with the herb Chardonnay butter. It came with green beans and some kind of potato dish. The green beans looked and tasted like they were just dressed canned green beans, I did like them but I also love green beans any way I can get them. For the price I was hoping for some fresh green beans. The potato side was verygood! They were a little crispy on the outside/skins and had a really great flavor. The steak was cooked the way I ordered and the herb butter was really nice. I felt that it was just super salty though. I like more pepper than salt but I didnt get hardly any pepper, it was just salt and the butter sauce. My hubby didn't have any complaints and I can't remember what he got, he didn't share lol I would like to try this place again, I know sometimes places have off nights and I was v-day weekend. Damn I was so glad my coworker brought me here! This place was so amazing and had a great view outside. It had one of the best filet mignon I ever tasted. I liked mine medium rare and it was cooked prefect. This place brought a great atmosphere and felt so relaxed while enjoying your food. First off, my mother's day was ruin. We had to ask the waiter several times for basic items like bread and oil. A spoon to eat our soup with. Let's not even talk about a drink. It took forever to get his attention to ask for anything. Then, when I asked other waiters passing by, they looked at us like we had two heads. When we finally got assistance, we had a list of items because we knew it would take him forever to return to our table. My waiter could not get a simple steak order, correct? Maybe him or the kitchen. After they completely damaged two top-tier steaks. I gave up. Can you believe they cut the steak in half and then cooked it.. to top it off? I asked for my steak to be cooked medium. The first one was well over burned beyond recognition. The second had scarred damage to the outside, but the inside was still mooing. At that point, I was hungry and frustrated. Luckily, I had ordered a lobster tail, but by this time, u could knock on wood with it..it had gotten hard with cold butter sauce. I was too afraid to say that, being that I had sent two steak back to the kitchen, and they were inedible. So I ate the cold lobster and butter sauce because looking at my kids and grandkids not eating because everyone was waiting on me to start eating or just get food that I could eat was horrible. Mother's Day is a very rough time for me, so my family really tries to make it great. The view was great. The ambiance was good, but the wait staff and the food here weren't great. The manager knew of the issue because he brought out the second steak to me. No apologies for the service or the food not being cooked correctly. For this to be a steakhouse, I expected more. My kids' orders were not seasoned but looked good. We had to wait to even get salt and pepper to our table. I understand it was Mother's Day, so you should have enough staff for this reason but having people wait for more than 30 mins for item that are suppose to be at the table shortly after being seated or items asked for prior is not good service. I'm not sure if I will visit here again. I wanted to try the delicious chocolate cake and other desserts we had heard about, but after this experience, I just wanted to go back home. Had the chance to check out Opus this weekend in Kemah. Our party of eight was looking for a high-quality meal to cap off a refreshing day spent out on the water. We were informed that there would be a half-hour wait, which ended up stretching to about 45. No problem-- we were more than happy to post up at the bar and grab a few drinks and appetizers. We started with the Artichoke Claremont, Asparagus Parmesan, and cocktail shrimp. The artichoke, leafy head served whole with a creamy tomato-hollandaise dipping sauce, and the crunchy asparagus were both delicious. The interior of the restaurant is dim and cavern-like, with a low ceiling and around 20 candlelit tables. It was pitch black outside, but I could make out boats lined up at the dock through the large rear window, which must offer quite a lovely view during the daytime. The atmosphere is moody and romantic; definitely a stellar place for a date. The small space contributes to the intimate ambiance, but the inevitable congestion near the bar is annoying for those standing nearby, waiters hustling past with platters held aloft, and seated patrons whose chairs keep getting inadvertently jostled. Some of the items we tried: French Onion Soup - Pretty standard preparation. Sweet and vinegary, with caramelized onions and a stringy cheese crust. Ribeye with Shrimp and Crabmeat - The steak was cooked exactly medium-rare, like I ordered. The creamy béarnaise sauce was spooned over the steak in moderation, so as not to drown out the natural taste of the meat. The lump crab was soft and flavorful, as were the shrimp-- it's a pity there were only two! While the star players exceeded expectations, the supporting cast (the green beans and potatoes) were pretty lackluster and could've used some salt. Red Snapper Charlie Brown - Unequivocally my favorite dish of the night. The flaky fish was buttery and finely breaded, topped with lump crab, marinated mushrooms and artichoke. While the crab was undeniably tasty, the acidic sourness of the vegetables really elevates the dish. Opus doesn't try to innovate or surprise your taste buds with culinary wizardry. It does classic American steak and seafood, and does it well. read more
