As an OC born & raised, I can't believe I never tried this place! I was so excited to try this place. I give 3 stars to share the good and the bad as Yelp asks. First time here and the ambiance is spacious and clean. I went around 7:40 and there was only one customer dining indoors. Dont forget the kulfi and other snacks for sale on the side, with a friendly approachable service. The cashier was attentive and ready to take my order. I loved the variety of curries and a great deal for a 3 item combo. It was on the pricey side for 2 gulab jamun at $4 when I've been to AYCE for $18.99 with unlimited gulab jamun. I like to keep my reviews honest-- the bargain is a big part in attracting customers too. Price comparison on the gulab jamun helps with that. The steeper prices for gulab jamun & lassis may be reflective of the cost of living in OC. Apart from that, I tried the palak paneer, chicken tikka masala, and goat curry with garlic naan. These are my go-tos when ordering Indian food. It is really hard for me to offer food critiques when I know that Mom and Pop businesses are just doing their best to provide the services. I want to provide my critique carefully and also honestly, so hopefully it can be constructive. I really mean not to offend. Portion wise remember that you can get an all you can eat buffet for the same price that you get ordering a three item combo plus the gulab jamun flavor wise. I was expecting more pronounced Indian flavors like I've gotten similar chains like Curry Hut. In my opinion, the flavors were significantly watered down. I was expecting a little bit more of spice, but there was no spice for how I've eaten Indian food compared in the past. It seems like the flavors were shifted to meet Americanized palette so I ended up only eating my food for 15 minutes before putting it away. I didn't want to waste it considering how much I paid for the meal but the Indian flavors just weren't there for me. I feel I would have had more authentic flavors from a Trader Joe's, frozen meal pack and I mean this, sincerely with the upmost respect. The chicken tikka masala which I've had in several different establishments tasted very mild, almost flavorless, but it had the correct colors. The spinach in the palak paneer was overpowering & the goat curry had no kick or spice. I mean these comments respectfully and just to portray the Indian flavors. Delicious food, clean place and good value. I came in around 1130am to try to 2-item combination for lunch and it was not too crowded yet, still most tables available. There was only a couple people in line ahead of me. The crowds started around 12-ish, when all the tables filled up. The eggplant entree was my favorite, lots of flavor. It also included a large serving of rice and naan bread, which they delivered to my table and took a little less than 10 minutes to arrive, but it was well worth the wait, good size and more fresh than most other places I've been to. Typically, I can tell if the naan bread is just reheated/warmed up and been sitting a long time, usually it's a bit harder to tear, less hot and chewy, but the naan bread here was extremely hot and very soft. I also tried the Indian hot tea and it was also very good. Enjoyed the good balance of spice and milk. Water was self serve out of a nice dispenser and the bathrooms were nice and clean. Seating is limited here, so you'll want to come early or late if you want to sit down for lunch. This is one of those places I would become a regular if it was in my neighborhood, not only because of the food, but also for the prices. First time coming here due to a sudden craving for Indian food after having lived nearby for the past 4 months. Ordered butter chicken, goat biryani, and garlic naan. Everything was delicious. The goat biryani wasn't as good as I thought it would be but it was still decent. I think somebody need to emphasize this to first timers in Orange Curry: do not be alarmed. I repeat. Do. Not. Be. Alarmed. When you ordered combo with 1 or 2 dishes, they will put a bed of rice, and then using a flat-bottomed laddle they will scoop the dishes into all nook and cranny of your to-go box. Scoops and scoops! This is probably the first time in my life that I actually motioned 'stop' to a server. I was worrying the food would overflow. But as you can see in the picture, the amount is exactly right to the brim! I would recommend this place for indian food first timers. The dishes tastes mild, as in less spicy (and less spice-y) than traditional indian curry, but still full of flavor. Tikka Masala is my favorite so far. The goat curry is too mild for me. It's still good, but for me it's almost like a birria stew. My only complain is the chicken is rather dry and 'dusty'. Which is confusing, since the chicken is there simmering in the gravy, and the gravy is amazing. The delightful surprise was the garlic naan. It's big! It's fluffy, crispy, and full of flavors! I think for the next visit, ordering garlic naan and tikka masala gravy alone is already a satisfying meal. But i can promise you though, if you order the combo, then you WILL be full. read more
