Not such a great Father's Day brunch! First we didn't get the outdoor seating we reserved; even though we reserved for outdoors and to get it we would've had to have waited 40 minutes past our reservation time! Second after we sat down our waiter didn't know the alcoholic drinks they had or the special as well as the fountain drinks; new wait staff should be shadowing veteran wait staff. Third, other tables sat down after us and got their appetizers before us. They then brought our apps out then about 5-10 minutes later they started to prep to bring our entree's out; we stopped them and asked them to wait. Lastly, when we asked to speak to the manager he was not nice or considerate or caring in any way and didn't offer to comp anything; he tried to standup for the mistakes his employees were making!! Being that the manager was a male and the person in our party who complained I think he dismissed it based on gender!!!! Many other poor service situations happened but those were just the major hitting points! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE! read more

Came in last night (Friday) made a reservation for a window table we had people meeting us there that were from Canada, and I thought it would be nice to have a window table well that didn't happen again! we were a table away from the window,When we asked to move over to the table when the people had left to the window, and we were told they had to have that approved that we couldn't just move over mind you we haven't got our food yet all we had was cocktails. Someone came over from the host station and we moved over. The server was okay she wasn't totally on it meaning that our water was empty and our she never brought me my iced tea that I ordered I told her to forget it after about 10 minutes, the people we were with would have liked to have more drinks but she never came back to take more drink orders,food was good the potato cakes not great they're like chopped up hash browns made into a pancake, I would have much rather had a baked potato because we asked about it and our waitress said oh these are wonderful. We all had dessert the butterscotch pudding needs more butterscotch and less blackberries it takes away from the taste of the butterscotch it would have been very good without it, the fiddle-faddle was great I could have eaten a plate of that the ice cream sandwich was good and the chocolate cake was good. What is bad if you have a free valet but you're telling everybody that suggested tip is $4 which is wrong it's either $4 to valet park or it's free you can't have both, they told our friends that they can use a credit card(for a tip) at the free valet very tacky if you guys own the lot nobody should be telling you how much you have to tip. FYI owners of Orange Hill the rule of thumb is if it's a free valet you tip whatever you want or you don't have to tip at all nobody should be telling you how much you can tip very tacky. I would have given this place four stars if the service was better and we had a window table like I asked for on my reservation, and we didn't have to bribe the guy to let us Park our self and told them we were going to pay him any how, I don't like having anybody park my car, the guy said our insurance doesnt alow you to park yourself! So tell me just curious if something happenend to my car with the valet parking i could get your valet to pay for damages? or on the ticket they give you says there not responsible for anything? We took my mother in law here for her birthday, even before arriving to the entrance of the restaurant there is already an amazing view of the city lights. Upon arriving we were greeted by valet attendants. The entrance of the restaurant has beautiful plants and fish ponds. We arrived 15 minutes early but got seated at our reservation time( which was not a long wait). As soon as we got seated we were greeted by our waiter. I don't remember his name because all he got was our drinks then we had another waiter by the name of Eric with us after. He was very very attentive!! brought our appetizer, which was calamari and omg it was delicious, brought salads out quickly, food was out super fast as well . The food was made to perfection ( I am normally hard to please) but the prime rib steak was so tender and delicious. My husband has the fillet mignon and he loved it. My daughter had the salmon and she enjoyed it too. Eric was super attentive, would come often to ask if everything was ok, if we need drinks, if we needed anything in general. The view was amazing ( I'm a sucker for great views).yes a the pricier side if its for the whole family, but perfect if its a couple. I've always wanted someone to take me here because I've heard it was a really romantic date restaurant, had beautiful views, perfect ambience... ugh, in my opinion, it was none of the above! Basically, I had already prepared myself not to be wow-ed by the food -- everyone told me that the food was nothing special but that you're paying for the whole "experience" but to me, the experience was more of a second-rate country club. Right when I entered, I basically felt like I was in Acapulco. Weird comparison, but that's just how I felt. The restaurant and atmosphere was not nice, romantic, or classy at all. Rather, I felt really awkward having dressed up and going with my boyfriend here to celebrate our anniversary. All the waiters and waitresses were standing around in a corner just chit-chatting until one of them came to take our order. He was very friendly but I didn't get the feeling that we were in a nice restaurant. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer, lobster bisque, my bf had the prime rib, and I had the salmon. When our food arrived, the presentation looked really blah -- kinda like cafeteria food. It tasted like cafeteria too... Basically this was like a Claim Jumper on top of a hill. They were nice to us for our anniversary though, came out with a slice of cheesecake and candles which I would say was the best part of the meal. Took my sister there for her 50th bday dinner with our girls. She loved her sea bass dinner and my niece loved the chefs special, duck. I played it safe with the NY steak prix fix meal and was disappointed with the preparation and it was but tough. We also had 2 who had prime rib and although it was tasty it was nothing spectacular that you couldn't get at any good steak house. The desserts were delicious, the atmosphere nice , the view beautiful, so I am eating this a 4. I think my expectations were too high as I had friends who talked this up quite a bit. When I made reservations they asked if it was a special occasion I told them yes, we were celebrating my sisters bday. The gal who seated us asked again what we were celebrating. This was my first visit to this place came for my daughters birthday. Had reservaciones waited 30minutes to be seated. First I wanted to say that the valet slam hard the door to my car.he waiters was over worked to many tables for one person the helpers were terrible we asked for water with lemon . Only water was brought with no straws and no lemon. Ordered the 3 course meal , a cheap portion of stale romaine lettuce with one crouton in it . Return it .she took it with my fork and knife.guess what when my food arrived I had no utensils.she said she would bring them but waited , and waited. When the rest of the group got there steaks they had no steak knifes to cut into the meat. How can you bring steaks and forget to bring knives. They said they were sorry , and the dessert was free. Our experience here left us with a bad taste for the rest of the day. Having been here for brunch last Thanksgiving we decided to return for the regular Sunday Brunch. What a disappointment. The food was mediocre at best. The worst part is that we were seated right behind the S'mores station. We watched as children and parents alike came and took the crackers, chocolate pieces and marshmallows WITH THEIR FINGERS. There was also a container of chocolate pieces (you know, the famous colored ones) in a jar that every kid stuck their hand into. One kid even lit his wooden stick on fire while toasting his marshmallow. After being shocked with the bill (we were wrong in not finding out the cost first, thinking it would not be almost as much as the holiday rate) we asked for a manager. Jackie(?) came and apologized for "our perception" of the sanitation issues. She insisted they were up to code and it was a team effort involving all the staff and chef in presentation of the items. How condescending is that? She continued to argue her point which makes us think she really doesn't understand the health issues. After she left, we watched as the staff replaced all the items on that station and supplied fresh tongs and spoons. We were then presented with a consoling $10 discount. We won't be back. I was recently there for dinner and my Mother and Step-Father ordered the same entree. My Mother's portion was approximately 3 oz of fish while my Step-Father's was 6 oz. Why the difference? For such an amazing location, the staff at this place is dreadful. I started out in the 'O' Bar, which must stand for 'o'bnoxiously rude bar tenders. I had one drink at the bar, and quite a long time after it was empty, I waited, tried to get the attention of the 'young' 'hip?' servers, that were too busy with each other and those that they knew to be bothered with a new customer. I finally got the attention of one of the servers and asked for another. She asked if I had a preference of vodka, I said I was not picky (when you are adding a mixer, you cannot taste the vodka). Never got the water I asked for. When I finished, I decided to leave, if this was an indication of their service, I was not going to subject myself to a costly dinner, with more rude servers. Now if I can just get the bill, wait...wait...wait...finally get it and find that the "I am not particular about my vodka" cost me $22 for the second drink. This place has all the possibilities of a wonderful restaurant, but they would need to get rid of the current servers, who are so full of themselves, and hire much more mature servers who know what customer service actually is. Needless to say this place will not be a return for us. Tried it because we need a new spot for our company holiday party and this place got a poor rating from us. The search is on. read more

I had went here for my anniversary on 02/15/2020 & we had a amazing time. Mary Beth was great to us. I mean she had went out her way to make our night. I come to orange hill every year sometimes twice a year. I had asked Beth can she freestyle my dinner & drinks & everything she had brought me was great!! She did not disappoint me at all. She made sure that she had check on us like every 7min which is that sumthin that I had like. She had more then one tables, but she kept a conversation with us throughout the night. She had made us feel like that we we're right at home cause we have had bad experience at Moonshadow where they had treated us like nothing!! At the end of da night we had asked her where can we go to take pictures & not only she had walked us outside she had tooK pictures of us from our phones. 8/15/13: Hubby & I went here to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Decided to have a drink for sunset view and eat if it looked better than in the past 30 years of downhill food & service. New decor, decided to eat there: waiter and staff were spectacularly efficient and pleasant. Hubby had salmon & I had seared ahi...excellent food, prepared by "real chef"...my ahi had sauce on the side with perfect blend of sweet with wasabi 'kick"...you could control! It was on bed of Thai black rice. Rolls were perfect, crisp on outside, soft and moist on inside. Wine (by glass) was excellent. They ended with a complimentary dessert combo on plate that had wishes written in chocolate! Price was very reasonable for our special occasion! View was perfect as ever! Koi pond entrance appeared newly landscaped! Yes valet parking was efficient...crowded "full" restaurant & bar for a Thurs. evening..which didn't hamper out experience! Great view of the OC. This place sits by itself at the top of what is probably the highest 'hill' in the City of Orange.... Hence, Orange "Hill"... it's not just a clever name. They have an outdoor balcony that you can enjoy the view at sunset or night to see the lights of Orange County. Service is excellent! Been here a number of times for lunch and dinner, date nights w/ the wife as well as work nights w/ clients, group events, and weddings... it's all good. Food has never been horrible, but nothing unique or unusual about the menu ever. No real signature dish to recommend. The wine list is a little on the thin side (they had like 5 Zin's to choose from), however the selection that they do have is rare and often hard to come by at most restaurants. The four stars are mainly for ambiance (five stars for ambiance alone). The drive up us pretty spectacular. They light up the road and trees with christmas lights. The road to and from is narrow and windy, so be careful on the way down if you've had too many. read more

Sad experience. Started great with very nice valets and then it declined from there. Used to be a place we went for a special occasion. Not ever again. Greeted immediately with a hostess with an attitude. Then with slow service from our server. Food is not cheap but that was expected and was not an issue. I had my wedding at Orange Hills Restaurant. I cannot argue that they have the best and romantic view. However, my experience on my wedding day is not to be expected. They lost a few the decorations from my florist. The toilet was broken and all the guests have to walk a ways to the next bathroom. They only have one bathroom available for the whole restaurant that evening. As bride, I asked for a replacement of my dinner since the steak was raw and nobody showed up to replaced my dinner. I have reached out to the sales manager for a replacement of my dinner and not heard back from them. My guest signature book was also lost and never heard back from them since October 2016. read more

This place is very hyped out...but I don't see why. Came here for an anniversary dinner and 'hmmm.' was my reaction after dinner. My parents came here back in the day and since I was a kid my mom always joked about how I should come here one day with my husband blah blah. Driving up the hill was beautiful, the outside decor totally caught my eye...and so here it begins. We enter the restaurant and the inside is not nicely decorated (in my opinion). For such a high class restaurant I was expecting it to look nice on the inside. The food, of course, was pricey. But what I cared most was the quality of it... and it was ehhh. Not worth the price they are charging for. I think the restaurant is constructed a little funky. You have to walk pass the kitchen to get to the other side of the restaurant where there are more tables to be seated at. However, the middle section where the kitchen is just look so crowded and messy and should not be located there. The view YES was breathtaking, we saw the sunset which was beautiful. But I expected more from this high star establishment. That's all. My experience was decent but I was anticipating more from it. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch with a group of friends. It was $42 per person. I would not have come here had it been my decision, but we were celebrating and someone else picked this place. You are paying for the view. If you've read other reviews, you know the restaurant is on a hill overlooking the city. The view is quite beautiful. You drive up the hill and there is valet parking with a "suggested" tip of $4.50. The walk from the valet to the front of the restaurant is nice. The service was good. We had a waitress and waiter who checked on us often and consistently refill our champagne (which was included in the brunch). The service is why I'm giving three stars instead of two. The restaurant gets two stars because the food was just not that spectacular. I don't usually spend that much money on a single meal, but I do eat out a lot, and I've been to a lot of different places. If I'm paying more than $20 for a single meal (not including drinks of course) I expect to be wowed and that did not happen here. read more

I had not been to this restaurant in a couple years, but remembered it as a stunner. But I agree with 1 of the other reviewers, this restaurant is no longer good. The view is still the same: spectacular on a clear night - as it was last night. The food, cocktails and service, however, have sadly deteriorated and are just no longer justifiable to the prices. I took someone there last night for a special birthday dinner and it was a very disappointing experience. From the moment we sat down, we waited 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We waited another 20 minutes (w/just water) for our Cosmopolitans to arrive. They were ghastly: bitter, not made right -tasted like they had grapefruit juice in them! We sent them back and waited another 15 minutes for pomegrante martinis that weren't bitter but not much better. Don't know who was bartending, but he or she needs some training! We ordered the 3-course special w/prime rib, caesar salad and dessert. Seemed like a good value at $44 each. The salad was blah and had very little dressing. We had to ask for bread, which didn't arrive until we were done w/our salads. At that point the waitress told us they were out of bake potatoes (which is on the menu as coming w/the prime rib). She said they'd substitute mashed, but did say we could have something else. We chose the au gratin potatoes instead. Dinner arrived, luke warm w/mashed potatoes anyway. We waited while she brought the au gratins on the side. My poor guest ordered her prime rib medium rare and it was bleeding, and I watched her struggle cutting it and discarding lots of stringy fat "stuff" onto her bread plate. I ordered mine medium (described as "pink" on their menu) and it was gray. We should've sent our entrees back but at this point it was very late and we just wanted to be done. The manager did come by and acknowledged all the issues. She apologized. They did comp our 2 cocktails, which is a nice gesture, but frankly, I'd have rather paid for our drinks, and enjoyed delicious cocktails made right; warm, tender food, and attentive service. I do have to say the desserts were fabulous, and the waitress made a special bday plate for my guest. I was willing to think maybe it was just an "off" night and our issues an exception last evening rather than the rule for what used to be a lovely special occasion dining experience "on the hill" worth the drive and price. But after reading the other reviews this morning, it seems the restaurant is slipping big time. So go in the summer, sit on the patio for the view, and order coffee and dessert....skip cocktails and entrees! read more

I visited last Friday for happy hour, only to find out that it was no longer available on the gorgeous patio. The bar was under construction, and the room being used as the bar didn't have such a great view. We also were told that happy hour ended earlier than was posted at the time on the website. We spoke with the lovely Cole, and he absolutely made our evening. He arranged for us to sit outside, have happy hour pricing, and extended to the former 7:00 end time for us. What a star!! Cole was classy, professional, and made sure we were well cared for. This is the example this establishment should have, and the level of service that definitely wowed us. Nice!! read more

Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with this place at all. I made a reservation at 7:00 o'clock for my boyfriends birthday and when we got there the hostess said it would be about a 15-20 minute wait and that we could wait in the bar. We actually had great service from the bartender and he made our hour wait for our table not as bad. However, we finally got sat an hour later after checking numerous times. We waited about 5 minutes and our server Brooke finally approached us. Being a server in a fine dining establishment myself I was not pleased with the service. I don't know if she didn't take us seriously because we looked like young adults but that's absolutely no excuse for poor service. We had the crab stuffed mushrooms to start and they weren't anything special unfortunately. We then had to ask for bread and it didn't come out until after our dinner entrees finally hit the table and then we waited a good minute awkwardly without silverware. I thought presets for meals were supposed to be down before the food comes out? We then realized we didn't have a candle on our table and when we finally asked to have one on our table she didn't bring one I had to get up and go steal one from an unoccupied table myself. Lastly, half way through our dinner another server Gregory comes up and starts taking care of us, Brooke never came to introduce him and let us know she will be taking a break. She was still walking around in the dining room serving other tables though which just confused me. Gregory was nice, and again I get the whole 30 minute break policy but you're also suppose to let us know we will be taken care of by someone new for a while. We went there to celebrate and to have an experience which is what you are practically paying for in a place like this and we just didn't get it. The seabass and prime rib were good, but again nothing extra special. The view is beautiful, we did go sit on the patio for a while after and enjoyed that but the restaurant as a whole is not what I had anticipated it's just another basic restaurant with a pretty view. Another table right next to us had complained about another server too and I did over hear the manager take care of the problem. My friend and I took another friend to this restaurant for a birthday dinner last night.The view, of course, is gorgeous, and the happy hour portion of the evening was enjoyable -- firepits on the terrace, good-priced drinks and decent appetizers. The dinner, however, was very disappointing. When walking past the kitchen/food prep area, I glanced around, and could predict that this was not going to be good experience. What I saw was six "short order-type cooks," with no evidence of a bona-fide chef present in terms of personal appearance, food presentation or food preparation skills. (Frankly, I don't think showcasing the kitchen to the general public is a plus, in their case, I'd conceal it.) Short order is fine for Denny's, whose entrees are appropriately priced, but not for a restaurant that positions themselves as one of the best. Sure enough, when the dinners were finally served (very slow service both on the patio and in the main restaurant), my poor expectations were met. We ordered 3 very different meals -- pasta, chicken and fish. All were bad. Tasteless, dry, poorly prepared, and nothing to speak of in terms of presentation. The food server, though personable, didn't offer the normal for a fine restaurant -- ie. freshly grated Parmesean cheese for the pasta dish. I had to request some, and received a plate of shaved cheese, more appropriate for a topping on a salad. For a restaurant that charges these high prices (typical entrees are $30+ with some in the $75 range) one would at least expect the dinners to be delicious/excellent. Not so. I would recommend this place for happy hour drinks and appetizers on the patio, especially for a date-situation (if you don't mind a very long wait) but would steer clear for dinner. Very, very disappointing. I ended up apologizing to my friend for choosing this as a birthday destination. Sad, in view of the cost.... I think the manager/owner needs to seriously look at some of these reviews, and address the problems. (When two or more unrelated people say the same thing, one has to accept that it's probably true.) With all of the choices that Orange County offers, and with the excellent-fare-for-the-money available at other places, I'd say Orange Hill is in trouble. read more

I have been a big fan of this restaurant for the last 10 years. That been said , I have noticed that in the last year and lot have changed and not in a good way. I have made a reservation for Sunday brunch with the request to be sit it on the patio. At the time of my arrival I was told that I have to wait 15 to 20 mins to be sit it on the patio, even though only 3 tables were occupied there. After a little bit of fuss , they said that I will be sit it and the hostess gave me a table in the sun and when I asked if I can sit at another table in the shade she said that that one is not for me. Despite her attitude I sat at that table and of course nobody else came on the patio for the whole time I was there. Seems to me that everyone from hostess to servers have an attitude towards customers. Food was mediocre and most of the food containers were empty and took a long time to be refilled. The price went up to $53 per person and everything else about this restaurant went down. I would love to see this place were it was before. read more

called to ask if you needed a reservation to sit outside at 4:30.....she said no....got there at 4:45 the patio was empty and yet a 20 minute wait....there were two other parties waiting as well.....20 mins later we were sitting outside and still the patio was empty. Waiting for 20 mins was frustrating watching a empty patio. Happy hour only in bar now so okay but the appetizers have changed and not the same. Hostess needs to be more attentive as it is the first impression when arriving!!!! read more

Reading the reviews and thinking to myself that the responses from Management would seem more appropriate on the lower ratings rather than exclusive to the 5 star ratings. Just a thought. Would be nice to know that the negative feedback is just as valuable as a five star rating. It can better your business to know you care. Just sayin.... I do read the replies on negative reviews. It was my first time eating at the hill for sunday brunch I heard so many great things about it. When my party got sat our server was gabe. I only saw him twice during our time there once when he introduced himself and one more time to drop off the bill. I tried to get some help from one of there bussers but he did not speak any english. I looked foward to the food but very disapointed I had the white fish and the lamb osso bucco. The white fish tasted very old and the sauce tasted like thickened milk. The lamb wasnt tender at all. Very dissapointed. But the thing that made me want to walk out without paying was these two drunk oldermen trying to take my wife home with them. I saw what it seems to me to be dishwashers taking out the food to the buffet very dirty aprons. That will be the last time I go to that restaurant was that all worth the great veiw not for me. read more
