This is one of the best Korean bbq places we've been to in LA. They have quality meat that leaves you feeling full, and not bogged down. Service is prompt and quick, they cook your meats perfectly and quickly. They have all the sides that my husband and I prefer - kimchi, pickled radish, kimchi radish, and rice paper. I love that you finish with a nice hearty, spicy ramen. You also won't smell like Korean bbq, which is fantastic. They're busy, but not packed. They have parking lot that is $10 after 4pm, which is not bad for Ktown. read more

Came here for dinner with a few friends. Food was good, but it was definitely pricier compared to other KBBQ places that we've been to. That being said, food had great flavor and was good quality. We came for dinner during the week, and while it was definitely crowded, we were able to get a table without issue. Staff were super attentive and helpful. They have their own parking lot. Can't remember how much it was to park there, but it was easy. Good choice for KBBQ. read more

Solid kbbq. Loved the overall spread of side dishes and sauces. It just didn't fully meet my expectations nor "wow" me because I've had much better quality in NJ/NY but maybe I'm biased. Still had an enjoyable meal. read more

TLDR: Meat quality is excellent. Staff cook the meats well. Service, though, and price point though is definitely not worth it. I hope they improve their distribution of responsibilities, care for checking in // asking about sides, and provide some lenience in their corn cheese prices. - - - - - - Origin is undoubtedly well-known in Koreatown, and so is parking... which is $10 in the plaza. There's also a $15 parking option across the street if if it gets full. My party came with a reservation for 6, and we were quickly seated by the host. We had their Baekdu Set, which serves 6, and it was perfect. Without running through all the details, all of the meat was masterfully cooked despite there being minimal communication and additional service on the grill. I believe our server for the night was Yun, and I felt sooo bad for having to manage 4-5 tables on her own. Meanwhile there were 3-4 other guys standing around chitchatting. :( Once we were seated, we were famished, so we devoured their corn cheese, only to find out that it was $10 for extra. Whether your party is 1 or 6, you get the same amount of corn cheese... oof. We also had their steamed egg which was $5. The corn cheese was perhaps the most hilarious comparison - the thinnest sheet of corn - one corn thick - for $10 but steamed egg is $5? Between grilling the meats, rarely ever did our servers communicate with us for anything including refills on sides. We were barely able to flag down a server to assist us, and it was difficult getting a refill on salad and sides. Half the time, we had to eat the meat as is with barely any sides or rice / radish paper. Eventually, Eric came and served us, relieving our previous server. Service improved from there, but... by then we were on our last meat or two. I guess for some positives, I think it was was cool to see a few famous people had visited Origin. But I'm not sure if I'd consider returning about that subpar service. read more

Great spot! my friend and i ordered the "beef duo set" which serves enough for 2. we ordered the prime rib eye, brisket and bulgogi. for sides we got the kimiche rice and marinated cucumbers. when i go back i'd order the same meal but minus the rice. it was great but we ended up taking it as leftovers as we were really full by everything else. read more

I am not typically a KBBQ person because I dislike the quality of the beef, as it is generally bad. Origin, however, has very good beef quality and I actually enjoy the fact that they cook the food for you. I would recommend getting reservations because it's quite busy, and also it is kinda loud inside. read more

This restaurant is clean, well organized, and has an ambient lighting that makes the space little dark. I ordered the pork combo, and it was a generous portion, enough for two people to share. The quality was good, and everything tasted fresh. This was my first time having kbbq. I was so excited. The staff was nice. They accommodated my friends who were late to the reservation. Oh, make a reservation. They have a really intimate space. I went with friends, but it could be great for date night. The food is delicious. I didn't realize how much I'd enjoy the food. The kimchi soup was out of this world. I think it was kimchi soup or stew. The corn and cheese, omg. As far as proteins, the pork belly is incredible. read more

Good place to meet up with your girlfriends and share the combo options. However , for the price and portion size, it won't be enough for a bunch of guys especially when they come hungry. Keep that in mind and order extra à la carte to keep everyone happy. We enjoyed the short ribs more than the thinly sliced pork belly. Overall, we won't be coming back considering there's so many other Kbbq options in ktown now. Wasn't truly impressed with the overall quality. read more

Been to over 35+ different Korean Bbq spots locally in my life and let me start off by saying origin definelty executed the experience spot on from the banchans to the meats. I'm very very picky when it comes to pork belly at kbbq spots and this was by far the best I've had. Dining experience ends with a ramen hot pot & boy was this delicious. Tender, flavorful cuts and you truly don't even need the dipping sauces. From short rib to pork belly, everything comes out juicy with beautiful marbling and that delicious char. Portion and set combos are perfectly balanced -- the small set feeds our family of four easily, and we love the salad, sides, and cheesy corn that come with it. Yesterday I came here with a friend to try this place out. The atmosphere was really nice -- perfect for chatting and enjoying some BBQ. We ordered the couple's set. Both the short ribs and the marinated short ribs were delicious, and the meat was super tender. The steamed egg was also really good -- it practically melted in your mouth. We also added: * Dumplings: the wrapper was nice and crispy * Seafood pancake: loaded with ingredients * Kimchi fried rice: very flavorful and super satisfying The staff helped grill everything for us, so we didn't have to do it ourselves the whole time. This place is a must try. The Eric and Lucia were attentive and were so nice to our group. We asked for refills of our sides and they were both happy to bring them. We tried a set of beef and it was delicious. We thought the galbi and bulgogi were at the top of our list followed by the brisket and rib eye. The sides were also quite tasty- we did ask for refills! Parking is available in the quad area or on the street. We will definitely be returning. read more

If you're craving high-quality Korean BBQ with attentive service and a sleek atmosphere, Origin Korean BBQ is the spot. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome and walked us through the menu. The meats were beautifully marbled and incredibly fresh--especially the ribeye and pork belly, which practically melted on the grill. Side dishes were plentiful and constantly refilled (special shoutout to the kimchi and potato salad), and the dipping sauces were legit addictive. The restaurant was clean, the ventilation was solid--no walking out smelling like a campfire--and the service was fast without feeling rushed. Prices felt reasonable for the quality. Best thing about our night was TONY! We came here for Dine LA and it was our first time checking the place out. Safe to say, this definitely won't be our last. The food was really solid. Everything tasted great and was cooked perfectly. I especially loved all the sides! Most of my friends were more focused on drinking than eating though, but they were all super happy with experience. Service was on point the whole night. The staff was super friendly and quick. We never had to ask for water, and everything came out at the right time. The ambiance inside was great too, nice vibe, not too loud, and a really cool setup overall. Now let's talk about Tony, he's the BEST. He's the manager and just the sweetest person. So respectful, very welcoming and genuinely made sure we were having a great time. You can tell he really cares about the place and the guests. Overall, this spot has great food, great service, and even better people. I feel so bad that I forgot to take pictures. I would have to say this is probably my new favorite kbbq place. The only downside is where it's located since it's in the same plaza as toe-bang & quarters, there is hardly ever any parking nearby. We opted for the beef set (small) and added pork belly since I wanted to try their pork belly. I love that they had two stoves: one for the grill the other for their corn & cheese! The server was very prompt in grilling the meat for us. I love that the menu showed you how to make a ssam. Their side dishes were delicious too. We didn't read the top of the menu but the top of the menu states that ordering the set comes with corn cheese, steamed egg, and brisket soybean paste hotpot with noodle. I was so shocked when they came out with a WHOLE pot for the hotpot. I legit thought it was just going to be one of those small pots that the steam egg or tofu soups come in but NOPE, it's a full on hotpot. This was WAY more than enough food for two people. Parking: either paid self parking or street parking. Ambiance: casual, clean. The music was on point all my favorite K-pop songs! Service: very good and attentive (we went lunch time). Food: brisket and bulgogi very good but the short rib meat was terrible and chewy. Their soy bean paste soup with noodles had potential but it was so overwhelming on the fishy taste. The 반찬 (side dishes) were good! Overall, I would comeback but it wouldn't be my first choice or be my regular to go to place. But if anyone suggests it , I'd go. read more

Average kbbq spot in LA Ktown. None of us was super hungry so ordered the small. Chose to stick with the beef selection but they do have pork as an option. We tried the prime rib. Beef brisket, and bulgogi. My fav is always the brisket. Prime rib was good too. Not so much of fan of marinated beef when it comes to bbq. As usual all of these orders come with the soft egg soufflé, chive kimchee, and pickled radish slices and rice cake sheet to wrap the meat in. Just realized they didn't include garlic which is my fav. We also ordered a side of cold noodles which is essential when eating kbbq. Overall was decent but not my fav spot. read more

This restaurant's location is something every longtime overseas student remembers. No matter how late it was, if someone in the apartment group chat said "late-night food?", this was always the first place that came to mind. I actually hadn't been back since they moved, but my Korean coworker told me there's a secret phrase for free beef japchae. With news this fresh, I had to come try it and share it. Free Beef Japchae Make sure to tell the server "Show me the Origin" as soon as you sit down. They'll know exactly what you mean and place the order. I love japchae so much, but I always hesitate because of the price, thinking I should order meat instead. Since it's free and the portion is generous, you have to get it. It comes with beef, glass noodles, wood ear mushrooms, onions, carrots, green peppers and purple cabbage. The seasoning leans sweet and aromatic, and it's incredibly delicious. Beef Set You get three kinds of meat: brisket, marinated bulgogi slices, and then you can choose between marinated bone-in short rib or ribeye. You can tell the quality just by looking at the photos. Even the veggies for wrapping are plentiful, and the pickled radish is amazing. The highlight is that the set also comes with a brisket soybean paste stew plus ramen. It was my first time seeing such big slices of beef in complimentary ramen. A pot of ramen is truly the soul of the meal. They also give you a full plate of sizzling cheese corn on the house. With three adults and one kid, we were completely full. We thought the set was for two, so we ordered extra dishes and ended up stuffed. Seafood Pancake The outside is crispy, and the inside is packed with squid, scallions and chili peppers. It's pretty spicy. The dipping sauce is slightly sour and salty, super refreshing. Kimchi Fried Rice This one got me from online photos. The setup gives strong lunchbox nostalgia, with a hot stone bowl, a perfectly fried sunny-side-up egg and shredded seaweed. Break the yolk and mix it in yourself. It's impossible to stop eating. Even though the tables changed from round to square, the overall interior, lighting and ventilation pipes still feel exactly like what I remember. It was a little emotional walking in. The meat quality is genuinely great, and the staff grills everything for you so you don't have to do anything yourself, no more burnt meat. This BBQ place is operated by On6thAvenue Hospitality, the same group behind Quarters Korean BBQ, so the reputation definitely holds up. read more

We ordered the baekdu set (serves 6), and it was a feast. The highlight for me was the bone-in galbi, which was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The sides were also excellent, and I really appreciated that they had wasabi available. It's rare at KBBQ, but such an underrated pairing with grilled meats. I think this kbbq is better than its predecessor, Baekjeong that was at that location before. I really enjoyed their marinated galbi. Their banchan included lettuce and perilla leafs to wrap the kbbq in. At the end if you order a set menu it comes with beef brisket soup with instant noodle. I enjoyed the ending dish. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. I would definitely come back with a big party. read more

We booked a table at Origin for NYE and it was such a great decision of how to kick off the night. We ordered the Origin classic set for 4 and it was just the right amount of food and then some. Meat quality was excellent, good selection of refillable banchan and the meal is topped off with filling spicy ramen at the end of the meal. Our awesome servers helped monitor cooking our meat for us and were constantly attentional about refilling our drinks and banchan. Food comes out quickly...so come hungry! Located in the Chapman Plaza it was an easy location to get dropped off at and there were other great eateries in the plaza to also check out. The atmosphere is awesome and great for group dinners. Absolutely our new favorite Korean bbq spot! The ability to make reservations online makes it a no brainer when we are planning to get dinner with our friends. The restaurant is renovated which made it slightly different from khd before. The seats are way bigger and the grills are nicer. You even get a burner for the cheese corn and soup! The combos are easy for groups and we like to order a la carte on the top like pork jowl or beef tongues. Their banchan is delicious too, it's great to be able to get more ssam and rice paper. We always love the ramen in the end too! The service is quick and friendly and most of the time they cook the meat right but we always like to keep an extra eye on it. Parking in the plaza is always packed but they do have overflow in the back. read more

Origin is the replacement for what it used to be known as Baekjeong inside chapman plaza. Origin Korean bbq is by far my favorite place to go whenever I have friends and family visiting or if I'm in the mood for some kbbq. This Korean barbecue has many of the similar features that all other Korean barbecue restaurants have with a plethora of side dishes, egg, stew, and sauces for your meat. What separates this restaurant from all other kbbq places is the quality of the meat and the dif different types of meat combinations that you can order from based on how many people are in your party. Individual servings are also sold here. Drink menu for alcohol are also similar to anywhere you would go in ktown. Origin has a lot of tables and can get really busy and loud. Parking is available in the back and valet is also available inside Chapman Plaza, but highly recommend that you park on the street or just Uber here. Reservations are recommended as long wait times can occur. read more

Great place to eat with a group!! I typically order a small combo and add a few sides. My favorite is their pork jaw! Soooo good. Their combo can probably fill up 4 people which is a bang for your buck. Parking here can be hard especially during rush hour. They have street parking but it's in KTown so it's almost impossible to find. Luckily, they have valet so I typically do that for a few dollars. Definitely check them out if you're in KTown! read more

Came here with a last-minute reservation I'd made for a Saturday night after my husband had visited and said it was his new favorite KBBQ. We parked in a paid carpark nearby as parking was hard to find on a Saturday. Ambiance here is modern, it felt similar to other KBBQ restaurants, but also chic and modern. It was busy when we came in and busy when we left. There was a lot of noise all throughout the night so it was hard to hear my husband at some points. Service here was efficient and professional. We got one of the set menus and left very very full. Everything was super delicious. Not one of my favorite KBBQs, but I liked it enough to return sometime. read more

When I first walked into the restaurant I was first astounded by the atmosphere is also extremely nice and sanitary, and didn't seem so hectic like other KOREAN BBQ places I've been to. I had a really great time here enjoying the atmosphere and eating the wonderful food. As far as meat quality this is as good as it gets. I was really amazed by the flavors and the tenderness of the meat. It is probably the best galbi I have ever tasted. and spicy prime pork belly was really good. Our group was one person short, and although we had already modified our reservation two days in advance, Joseph unnecessarily brought it up in an irritated tone, saying, "So you changed it from 11 to 9, and now it's 8, huh?" After trying the usual popular spots, they all seem similar in terms of meat and side dishes BUT not Origin. There's so much thought, detail and quality that went into the menu including the meat, side dishes, sauces, entrees and service that gives you that ultimate K-BBQ experience. They have this top of the grade flat pork that I've never seen before that's pretty addicting! I regret we didn't order a bigger portion. Also, the chadol soy bean ramen is a MUST! Flavors are heavenly! Also, they give you an instruction card titled "The Art of Ssam" that tells you how to get that oh so perfect bite every time! First time visiting this store after Baekjeong closed down. Was a fan of baekejong but since this is new I came to try it out. The food is mediocre and I don't see what is great about it overall. The pork belly is shaped round and thin, but I prefer the thicker one personally. Also I felt that the meat option were small and had mostly short ribs marinated differently. The banchan could be better because many were kimchi type just made differently. Service was great! Servers explained everything well and were accommodating whenever we needed something. They also told us how to pair to food with different sauces for better taste. I feel that overall I would not try this place out until there were some changes to the menu. And they also don't have the rice cake wraps -- not a wrapping place ifb that's how you prefer to eat your meat. Also, you have to ask for sesame oil. They also have a cold rice soup dish. It's not easy to find a restaurant that delivers both amazing food and outstanding hospitality, but this place does exactly that. If you're a Korean BBQ lover, this spot is a must visit. The restaurant is casual and clean and I loved the tile tabletops. Service was so attentive, the meats were cooked perfectly, and the grill was kept nicely organized throughout our whole meal. Everything is ordered a la carte and all the meats and banchan were simply so good and of great quality. The pork belly and pork jowl were amazing and we really enjoyed the beef brisket too. The steamed egg is so wonderfully fluffy. They provide lettuce and perilla leaves to wrap your meat in as well. Parking lot available with valet.
