My girlfriends planned an amazing bachelorette with dinner at Osamil and the food did not disappoint. The place has a warm modern feel with exposed brick walls, bookcase displays, and open kitchen. We sampled NEARLY EVERYTHING: sashimi, prawns, skewers, grilled squid, pork galbi, fried chicken and uni bibimbop. We were so stuffed and grateful the waitstaff removed the bouillabaiss from our order (otherwise we would have been carting around quarts of soup to our next destination). We ate here as a bit of a last-minute dinner at Osamil - we were lucky enough to find a reservation the day before, and it was needed for sure - Saturday night is quite busy here. Even though it's only a block from the hustle and bustle of K-Town, the entrance on 31st Street is much sleepier and easy to miss, given the block is mostly empty / filled with construction to the west. Once inside, though, you feel like you are in the cozy confines of any of the restaurants on 32nd Street, but with a bit more of a cosmopolitan feel to it. There's a bar at the front where one can grab drinks, and a decent amount of seating in the back - along with lockers on the side, where frequent-enough visitors can buy bottles and store them for a month. The drink menu has a decent amount of variety across pretty much any type of alcohol; I went with two cocktails that, to be honest, could have been done better. The Dragon Fizz in particular was a bit odd - served in a larger-than-average soup bowl, and topped with fruity cereal flakes...unclear what the inspiration was for that. The food here is very much influenced by Korean cooking, but a good chunk of it came off as food adapted for the Western palate with Korean influences. A word of note: the large dishes can be pretty large, and getting 4(!) of them to share amongst 6 of us was a big mistake...we could have gone with 2 (maybe 3 at most). I was disappointed that our waiter did not bother pointing out (as he did once all our food was served) that it was a bit too much...the good servers tend to look out for you. By far the best dish of the night would be the fried chicken - just an excellently-done, slightly spicy crisp to the fry, and the meat was extremely juicy as well. For being a whole chicken, it certainly seemed like we got a larger bird - but it was well worth it. I'd have to say the bouillabaise was my next-favorite dish; I'm not the biggest fan usually, but the kimchi-infused stock gives it a really nice dash of heat that works well with the generous amounts of seafood it came with. Aside from that, though, the rest of the dishes were a bit on the middling side, unfortunately. The pork shank was giant (also the last thing we ate - so we were just stuffed at this point), and the meat fell off the bone so easily, but the apple salad (which kind of ended up like an apple sauce on the shank) gave it a bit of a bland flavor, and giving a nominal amount of lettuce wraps for what was a giant hunk of meat wasn't worth the effort. I liked the rice in the fried rice dish a lot - a bit on the chewier, stickier side, particularly once the egg was mixed in - but the slices of steak were really rubbery, despite being cooked to medium-rare. The oyster pancake definitely had the spice it said it would, but there were no oysters in it as far as I could tell, and the other starter (the sashimi and daikon salad) was nothing to write home about...slightly better than average quality, but nowhere close to the cut you would get at a sushi house. I did enjoy the ambiance a lot, and there are enough interesting choices on the menu that I would probably be up for a return meal sooner rather than later. That said, there was just too much inconsistency in both the food and drink to really say that I loved the food here more than your average K-Town spot, even if it was a bit more accessible. read more

In a group it's always tough to choose a spot that has a good vibe for drinks AND tasty bar /happy hour selection AND a great full dining menu. Osamil delivers on all of the above! The hunt for a NYC bar that accommodates for large groups never ends. After leaving several other bars Yelp recommended in K-town that just didn't fit the casual and *hip* vibe we were looking for, we found Osamil. It's a beautiful and modern bar. We came at around midnight, and it wasn't too crowded. They were kind enough to immediately offer us a round table in the back. House wine was $8, but it was too dry for my liking. I ended up combining the wine with the house-made passionfruit soda, which was delicious by itself and made even better with the wine. The house-made passionfruit soda tasted more like juice than soda, which I didn't mind. It was very tart but you can definitely taste all the natural fruit flavors. Highly recommend combining these two drinks to make your own sangria or something of that sort. Oh, and they play a lot of older Kanye songs, if that's your thing :) read more

I have eaten here twice now and it's delicious. I love the daily food and drinks specials. Plus you can sit at the bar and experience the whole menu. The bartenders are super friendly, as are all the staff. It's in a central part of town so it's easy to meet friends here. More of a 3.5 review for this place. Everything was actually great when we started off. Good drinks, amazingly delicious food and decent service. I highly recommend the Pork and Kimchi fried rice from the sharing menu. And the fried chicken was super moist. Everything was perfect until the waitress spilled a bunch of sauces on my friend's jeans and shoes and some on my jacket too as she was reaching between us to clean up some plates. It wasn't a small spill either. Like she was holding the plate with the sauce pouring off the side straight onto my friend's jeans without even noticing. My friend who introduced this place to us was so upset about it, he said he may never return. I would come back though. The food really was that good. But I'm pretty upset that I can't get the darn smell of the sauce out from the coach jacket my wife bought me for my birthday a few years back. I guess accidents do happen. Omg, where do I start, this place is excellent high-quality Korean food. We started off with steak skewers (so tender and juicy), fried chicken (crispy and saucy), chicken skewers (full of flavor), kimchi fried rice with steak (cooked perfectly), and last but certainly not least the slow braised short ribs with bone marrow which stole the show. It was so tender, and the mouthfeel was incredible. The truffle drizzle was a bonus and the puree sauce was delectable, you can slap that on a sandal, and it'll still be good. I have been there last week with my co-workers since we read good review and love Korean foods. We were so happy to be there and excited ,too. The Start was good but one of the dish was smell fishy it was so bad and I knew that was not fresh. So I told the manager about it and he brought it back without any mention. He had to say 'Let me check out ' or 'Sorry' at least. 10 minutes later, he just passed our table and we asked him again what was going on. He said 'I already voided it.' . That is all? He didnt explain anything and ask we wanna make new order after that. Okay, let me try to understand. But one more issue happened again soon. One of my co-worker ordered 3 glasses of SAME cocktails and the 3rd one was just filled half of glass. So we complained it and one of waitress made new one BUT! they just added cranberry juice to cheat. It was too obvious to notice their cheating because the color and taste was just cranberry juice and there was no any foam on the top of it, which must be existed especially right after mixing. So, we ordered one more same thing to taste since we wanted to show them how you guys not being honest only for this cocktails!! And the taste and color was totally different of course. But, of course, the manager was too busy to handle our complains properly, and just repeated the same words "I will cancel them.' Without any apologies. Finally , it is time to check out. Unfortunately... they charged me that JUICE. We spent $600 for 3hours but we just met Horrible service and management. Better to show your respect of customer's time and treat them well. Came here for a semi-late dinner. Made reservations to get seats. Place is packed! Interior was very rustic and modern type feel. For three people, we ordered the kobe beef salad, two chicken and pork skewers, and pork belly. The salad was good and the skewers were nicely done. The pork belly was amazing!! Highly recommend to get it! The portion was more than three people to eat. I also ordered the Krombrewcha Royal Ginger drink. If you like ginger, this is pretty good. It was a little hidden and didn't have great signage, but I saw people go into what looked like a lively place and was intrigued... Best decision. I sat at the bar and ordered the baby octopus and the osamil cocktail. The cocktail was good, but I can usually only do one sweet drink so ordered a beer next. The octopus arrived and was honestly one of the best things I've ever had. It was spicy and sooo flavorful - the potato nest cooled it down a little too. There was so much octopus! They definitely don't skimp on the good stuff. I spent about $50 for a meal and two drinks after tax/tip and it was totally worth it! First one came then was followed by the entree then the other appetizers. We came here last week for dinner. Since we got there a little early, we took advantage of Happy hour at the bar. They had a great happy hour. The bar situated in the front at the entrance along with its bar and window seating was adequate and created a nice vibe. There was a good selection of Happy Hour drinks and snacks including dollar oysters and wings. We started with some Old Fashion cocktails while we waited for the rest of the party to arrive. Once we did, they sat us at our table. We ordered a bunch of apps and entrées. Their version of the foie came in a jar and house baked baguette. It actually came out tasting velvety and good. The seafood pancake was fluffy and crunchy. The beef sushi was sliced thin yet packed with flavor on a bed of warm sushi rice with a slice of radish and caviar. The uni rice came with rice in a bed of frisee, kimchee, scallions, and caviar. Whej you mix that together it's amazing! The seafood stew was like a bouillabaise with a well rounded seafood broth. Yummo! We topped it off with the fall of the bone pork shank. That was sooooo tender and tasty that we were all lovin' it! This is a must do!!! You will not be disappointed! We finished it off with ohhhhhh only seven booties of soju. Service was super friendly. Our guy was great at explaining what it was and how best to eat it. He kept it drink glasses filles. We had hoped to get a spot upstairs, however we were a walk in, so we settled on sitting at the bar. The first round of drinks came out nicely, but the second round is where the issues started. The 2 male patrons had their orders taken right away, meanwhile my female friend and I had to wait for almost 30 minutes to be served. (The drinks are good btw, which is a shame). We would have ordered another round, but it was nearly impossible to get service at the bar. I asked for the check, I put my credit card down immediately after receiving the check and yet...the bill was still given to a male member of our party to sign. Had I not been ignored for almost an hour I would have written this off, but please. Do better in the future I really wanted to come back here and I don't think that I will. If I have to have them I peel the skin off and use a knife and four to get to that tiny itty-bitty bit of meat on it. People look at me all freaked out. Well I have met my match. I am constantly floored how these high-end restaurants and lowbrow places never give you a glass of water. I was soul there but once I have the wings I'm a goner. Came here with a friend before dinner to kill some time. Their bar is open at 4 while their kitchen only opens at 5. Fortunately, the $1 oysters aren't considered part of the kitchen so we were able to snack on that while we enjoyed our drinks. I had The Green Monstah cocktail, which was a matcha/lemon drink (this my simplification, there are many more ingredients). It was enjoyable, a bit too sour at times, but if you like a sour/tart drink, then you'll really enjoy this. I personally didn't feel that there was too much alcohol in it, maybe because it tasted too good to have a large portion of liquor. That said, the cocktails in general aren't too cheap, so I ended up switching over to the house wine which was $8 a glass as opposed to the $15 cocktail. We were seated in the back. I liked how this place you could hang your jackets on the sides of the restaurant. We first ordered the chicken wings and sweet potato fries. OMG they were both amazing!! The sweet potato fries had a touch of truffle on them and the sauce on the side was such a great complement. The chicken wings were crispy to perfection with soft juicy meat inside. For the main meal we got the umi bimimbap which was ok. I was expecting it to be a hotpot but it was more on the cold side. It tasted like an unwrapped sushi with seaweed and rice mixed together and barely had any seafood in it. Our friend got the steak and kimchi rice which I tried a bite of and that was amazing!! Holy crap. We happened to walk by this venue on a random afternoon and boy we were delighted. First of all, the ambiance was perfect- decor was chic, place was well lit yet intimate, right amount of low music playing. The bartenders were superb and clearly had knowledge of not only their drink menu but mixology in general. The drinks were expensive but very good, with a perfect balance of flavors. Don't even me started on the food. Ridiculous - the food is exquisite with a contemporary take of Korean cuisine. The flavors are bold yet cohesive, with succulent meats and creative sides. We came here for dinner one night and were blown away by the short rib burger and the kimchi fried rice. The short rib melted in your mouth, with a burst of intense flavor. The kimchi fried rice had perfectly cooked steak with the most deliciously crisp rice to accompany it. The dinner was so good that we came here again for brunch and were again quite satisfied - the chicken and waffles is a must bc the chicken is perfectly crispy and sweet yet spicy. This place is a secret treasure full of flavor bombs - don't miss it! read more

I was visiting NYC for Christmas and and went here after a friend's recommendation. The place is beautifully designed and and decorated. Food is delicious and delicately prepared with fresh ingredients. I came here for lunch had the uni bibimbap salad. It was a traditional Korean dish with a modern twist by using very fresh ingredients. I asked the waiter and I guess they get their vegetables from the near by Union Square farmers market. I came back for dinner ordered the pork shank. The meat was tender in the inside with a delicious outer braised skin. This dish can feed 2 or 3 people and was a good compliment to the draft fat tire beer. All I can say is you will never find a Korean restaurant like this around the area. However, I think my dinner here is satisfying, with a special taste that is creative and harmonious. We ordered filet mignon, which is very tender beef. The special herb parsley is very fresh, and the beef is tender and a little sweet and salty taste. The other one is the pig shank, which almost everyone ordered one in each table. the meat is very well cooked, tender and soft.
