Good diner food in a divey atmosphere. The sassy chicken sandwich was a good choice. A grilled chicken breast with swiss cheese, mushrooms and Ott's own honey mustard dressing, accompanied by hand-cut french fries and a good sour pickle. What's not to love? Service was fast, if a bit spotty, but a huge motorcycle club arrived while we were eating and pretty much filled the place up, so it was understandable. The decor is basic but interesting. Ott's must have two thousand unique police and fire department patches. I stared at the wall for five minutes and found no duplicates. It is what it is. A local bar. The food is fine and they have a little variety for beer which is saying a lot for smaller bars. I enjoyed my wings but the pizza was closer to a frozen style. Maybe should have gone with a burger. The staff is friendly and the clientele was nice. I would go back. If you are reading this odds are you are a student down the street at EMI or the NFA. For a pub, the Ott House is good stuff. The Flying Dog on tap in a frosty glass is the perfect end to any day. The crab dip is a delicious but decadent treat (get it with house-made bread instead of chips). The burgers and chicken sandwiches are reasonably priced but come with chips; opt for the nice crispy fries instead (my favorites are the Emmitsburger and the buffalo chicken sandwiches). In general the more pricey dinners are not quite worth the extra cost. One night I may sneak in, rip down the dusty curtains, and let some fresh air in. Great divey-type bar. Good food, very accommodating staff and overall a very fun place. It's a must stop for folks training at EMI or NFA as it offers a place to let your hair down after a long day and good opportunity to network with peers from around the country. They, very astutely, provide free van service to and from the academy. **hint: don't forget to bring your student ID with you in order to get back on campus at the end of the night. read more

Okay it's a bar, but we have eaten lunch there plenty of times and that should be enough to say that we have enjoyed the food and service at this place. I like the décor as well! Solid American food well served. Kyle was our server and took good care of us - there when we needed him but did not hover. We started with the jalapeño poppers which were just right. And a couple of drafts which were reasonably priced. Then on to a standard garden salad which was fresh and crisp and came served with the dressing on the side. We had sandwiches for our entrees. My crab cake sandwich was ok but a little on the bland side. It seemed like it was mostly crab so it wasn't a case of too much filler, just seemed like there was a lot of mayo mixed in, and I am not a huge fan of mayo. Our neighbors are weekly regulars at this place. We go with them about once a month or two. The place is a lot of fun. It is packed every time we go. Trivia on Wed night. Darts and pool every night. This is maybe a good place for drinks. I went here one time. Their bar is huge and lots of tables throughout. The food menu is priced well but it seemed like mostly upgraded bar food. Not a place I would want to go for dinner. We had drinks, sandwiches, and fries last weekend for lunch. It was an average experience. I probally won't go back. Five starts for what it is...college hang-out, FEMA visitors dinner and drinking hub, and the best place for locals to meet. Crab cakes and wings rock. Pitchers half price on special. Family owned. FEMA folks often return and the owner remembers them! Great humor in the team of servers. But when it's busy, it's busy. Walk to the bar from FEMA. Free drunk bus for the crowd who has too much fun. Tip for owners...put pub tables closer to the end of the bar so the dining overflow can drink and eat while shooting pool. read more

Great place to visit! The food is great, the staff is very friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is perfect. While it is a hangout for the college kids which makes it often loud and crowded, its always a good time. Firefighters from the local fire academy frequent the bar as well. The bands that come in are always great and there's dancing and pool to keep you entertained. The owner is also almost always there and always super friendly. The drinks are a bit expensive, which is the only drawback. Definitely be sure to visit Ott's if you're ever in the Emmitsburg area! read more

My boyfriend and I went to the Ott House expecting to get the good service and food we were used to, so imagine our surprise when my boyfriends meal was cold and tasted funny. He got the, supposed to be, hot roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy but it was cold in spots yuck and it made him sick literally he is moaning on the sofa now. Not only that but I got the buffalo wings mild, the first order I got was terriaki sauce sauce ewwwww, which I did not order and when I complained the the waitress got me a second order which was buffalo wings but they were super over cooked and doused in buffalo sauce and leather tough, I had to cut them with a knife to eat them, don't know why I did that. I took an order home to my son because I promised him wings, he has a cast iron stomach and we thought he would like them. The waitress promised me they were like the buffalo wings I had but only ate a few of. Well he could only eat the ones that were my left overs which were leather tough and the other ones he said tasted like terriaki and perfume and he threw them out, imagine that. The appetizers were pretty good how can you mess up fried food, though not consistent in the cooking some very done some under done. The salads were great and fantastic dressing but over all not worth the $68.00 price tag. I would only recommend to my worst enemy and then would be afraid to do that to even them. I only gave the Ott House one star because I had to, think a half star would be more accurate. Seems the waitress overheard me say the wings were not good and she made certain that she told me how people were lined up around the block to get their wings, humm funny I have never seen any kind of line there before. She told me there were people at the bar eating them then, but there were only 4 people at the bar and they were drunk off their arses so guess they would eat anything but they only had drinks imagine that.
