When we questioned their availability the owner was offended and asked us to leave,and refused to serve us. She literally took the menu out of my hand. From our first encounter to our good-bye, the experience was personal, flawless, and memorable. The ambience is charming, inviting, and quietly sophisticated. Denise greeted us with anniversary wishes and we received personalized attention throughout our entire meal. Jim and their son Owen also offered us congratulations and we visited for a bit with Jim & Denise- a very nice personal touch,! Now, the food: each dish was a gastronomic delight, from the garlic cheese bread, the meatballs and polenta, and the crispy fried brussel sprouts to the New Zealand Lamb Chops with fennel crust, fennel and polenta, to the Panna cotta and the dark chocolate cake with ganache. The buttonhole Santa Ynez Merlot and the vodka martini were an absolutely perfect complement to the meal. We will definitely return. I thought this place was definitely going to be a lot better for the price and the overall reviews. All of the steaks on the menu are a la carts so everything is an extra charge for sides. We paid $10 for a small side of mashed potatoes which the lady who took our order said was "very shareable" but it was like the size of a small apple. They were also very bland. The steak had absolutely no seasoning at all it was a slab of steak on a plate with one shallot and that was it for $50. Ridiculous prices for the quality of the food and the service was basically non existent. I will not be going back ever again and I never write reviews but I had to for this one. For the price and the hype it was not very good. Maybe it was a bad night for them. The location is odd, because you don't know if your inside or outside. Plastic over the missing windows and portable heaters inside of a brick building. Hard to explain but it's odd for a high end restaurant. The bar is right at the front door, if you can find the front door. From the street you think "What the Hell". We had to wait to be seated and they had very few customers inside at tables. We thought we could have dinner and then listen to the live music afterwards. The live music was just two women singing up in front of all of the dinner tables. You can't sit and relax after your meal, your holding up a dinner table. The dinning room is small. We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu. They were out of the wine we ordered. Ordered another bottle of wine which was nicely chilled, but had nothing to keep the bottle cold for our dinner. Was told the soup for the day was mushroom bisque soup. Sounds good. Ordered the soup and this was at 7:15 on a Saturday night and not very busy and they were already out of the mushroom soup. Well they only have one salad. Some suspended salad, what ever that is. Well it's a salad on a big cracker over a moat of dressing. Very odd and not very good to eat. They are trying toooo hard. Make it simple and make it good first. Then get fancy. Had the crispy Brussels Sprouts appetizer and it was cooked leaves of the brussels sprouts and they were very dry and had a strong cheese sauce on them. We didn't like them. We have had other fried cut-in half brussels sprouts at other places that were very good. My wife ordered the salmon. When it came to our table it looked like a big bowl of salad. Move some of the salad away and you will find the fish. Odd presentation. It was a nice portion of fish, but it was on a round rock. We thought it might be a flat stone for a neat presentation. She liked the fish very much, but could not eat all of the "Greens". I had the rack of lamb. Ordered medium rare and it came out RARE RARE. Okay, I like somethings rare so I ate it. The lamb was way over seasoned. All I could taste was salt or pepper and it was strong. The mashed potatoes were very good. I think $42 for the lamb plate is a lot and it was not good. We had the deserts, cheesecake and chocolate cake. They were okay, but nothing special. My wife ordered coffee with her desert and the coffee never arrived, but it was charged on the bill. All-in-all it was not very good with the service and the food. You go to a high end restaurant and you know you are going to pay, but you want a great meal with great service. For the $148 meal for two people I was disappointed. Sorry, we will not be going back. read more

Fine Dining in Chino? Who knew?! This place far exceeded my expectations. My husband surprised me for my birthday and 4 other couples joined us for dinner and drinks. Beautifully decorated, fine dining ambiance, I was impressed the moment I walked in. The food was fabulous! I had the Swordfish and my husband had the $95.00 Tomhawk (sp?) steak. Yes, it was very big and very expensive, but great for special occasions. The brussel sprouts were a favorite. We tried 1 each of all the desserts and they were just as fab as the food and drinks. My favorite was the Peach creme brulee with goat cheese and pistachio. We LOVED the entertainment. 3 ladies sang a wide variety of genres... and let me tell you these women could sing the phone book. Soo sooo disappointed, I've been wanting to try this place for years but we finally decided that last night was a good date night so we made the reservation and gave this place a try. The menu was different from the online menu and the only reason my husband booked the reservation was because they would have paella for me which they did not. So when booking the reservation off the online menu please be cautious. The options we had were steak, octopus, oxtail, and lamb. Which aren't my cups of tea. So I stuck with soup and salad to keep it simple. Both were disgusting, the "Grilled Cesar salad" was a soggy balsamic salad with sprinkles of parm and the soup was cold and salty very very salty! The chicken noodle soup was truly terrible. My husbands steak was a lot of fat so most of it was left untouched and the only thing we enjoyed was the bread and he liked the drink he ordered. Enjoyed a birthday dinner here to celebrate a friend. The menu online or on yelp is not accurate. Be prepared. In fact, the menu is extremely limited. The table was not ready when we arrived even though we had a reservation. 10 minutes later we were sat and a cute, decorated table. It was a nice touch. After dressing on their covered patio, we waited 15 minutes for a beverage order. That's just annoying when you have a reservation and the place is not that busy. There's basically one server (the owner) for the entire place. Salmon campfire salad- farm raised salmon was very dry and overlooked. It is served on a scalding hot stone that wilts the salad before you can fully enjoy it. Park shoulder- not good. Just skip it. Veggies are bland and potatoes are not impressive. Meat needed salt and tasted like it had been microwaved and was 1-2 days old. We brought a celebratory dessert but wanted to experience an I house dessert with ice cream. They had one option. The server sold it to us as ice cream which is mainly what we wanted. It had ONE TABLESPOON of ice cream. Very disappointed. Very dry and old chocolate Mexican cake. Probably won't be back. The area doesn't have many "nicer" places and I realllllly wanted to love this place. read more

The bartender was out sick, so I couldn't try any mixed drinks except for the one the owner created herself; she recommended some good red wine to my family in the meantime though. Oh my gosh, what can you say? We have been going to Owen's for a number of years (when we sat in the small room and before there was a bar in that room!). It has always been a tremendous experience, starting with the the atmosphere, the music but always the food. Denise runs the place and James does the cooking (always fun when he is able to walk around at the end of an evening). So we really worried about Owen's Bistro during this time, like we worry about many small businesses. They are open and taking orders, so we placed one and drove over to pick it up. We live too far away and did not want to re-heat, so we had a picnic in our car. : ) We ordered the filet mignon and chicken alfredo dinners, along with a wedge salad, garlic cheese bread, and the chocolate cake. OK. I confess we also ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. Amazing folks! From the salad to the perfectly cooked filet to the fish to the pasta. And then came the cake, which is probably the best chocolate cake I have ever had in my life (and I am an old dude with a chocolate fix). Please support Owen's if you can! Essentially it was mescal, over muddled lemon and lime, with a little simple syrup, and a cabernet float. Pretty terrific. For dinner, I enjoyed the 40oz. tomahawk ribeye. It was excessive. But I have no regrets. If you're very very hungry, then I'd recommend it. Seating is in a pleasant indoor/outdoor exposed brick breezeway. The ambiance was great with an acoustic guitar player. We decided to stay close for our 10 year anniversary and we had a great experience. The staff read my reservation notes from Yelp and our table was decorated with heart confetti. The servers were also very attentive and the live music provided a romantic atmosphere. The food itself was delicious. We shared the crispy Brussel sprouts as an appetizer. We had the pork belly and venison for our main course. We shared the snores pie as desert. Everything was delicious and the meats were cooked just right. A mere minute after placing the menus on the table she reappeared to take our order. Things descended downhill from there ... it was impossible to have a leisurely dinner at this joint with this woman and her wait staff practically rushing us throughout the meal (we were in and out of the restaurant in less than 80 minutes). The food was unremarkable in one case and inedible in another. The Filet Mignon I ordered was fatty and of questionable quality. The coffees we ordered to accompany our desserts didn't arrive until after we finished our desserts ... when I politely questioned the ever-circling woman hostess why our coffee hadn't yet arrived, she imperiously commented that coffee is brewed to order. Well, if only that were true! The reality is this joint's version of brewed coffee is a plastic pod in a Keurig machine. The staff and I did agree on one thing ... they were anxious to clear the table, and I was just as anxious to bolt out the door vowing never to return. I would rank this as 3.5 stars due to the reservation only process. This restaurant isn't your typical reservation only place - so if you have last minute plans for dinner, you are out of luck here. This is a small restaurant with 85% of their seating in a covered patio area and the interior seating shares a very small area with the main entry, the bar, the kitchen doors, and the restroom doors. The bar is very small, but it has a retro hipster look and the bartenders make some good cocktails - their old fashion is done very well. Steak and lobster, a special chef''s concoction (rissoto, chicken and veggies),salad and balsamic ice cream (incredibly good!) with a strawberry infused whipped cream chocolate chip cupcake for dessert. I went all out and had the wine flight with dinner (Chardonnay, red wine blend and a sparkling Asti and champagne). Of course the highlight is when Chef Kelly comes out to greet his guests. We walked on a bed of rose petals and were greeted with a glass of champagne! We were serenaded with love songs by Kevin Krieg. Though we didn't let them know - I'm sure they would have adjusted it - instead we asked for some steak sauce but all they had was the chimichurri sauce and that made all the difference and was very tasty. (Would highly recommend the chimichurri sauce on the side with your steak) The pork belly was cooked well and my husband really liked it. The foie gras melts in your mouth and the plum sauce chutney tasted great. The bread with dripped fat smelled amazing but it just tasted okay... It may just be an acquired taste. I went for the first time as a date night and was extremely pleased with how great everything was. The location had me thinking it would be more average but it was truly top-notch from the ambiance, service, drinks, and food. We had some great drinks to get started, dove into some cheese bread and some type of ahi dish which was excellent. For our main dish, we had The New York Steak and The Filet. Both were extremely delicious and cooked just right. Dessert was made on location (we were told) and was perfectly light - it was similar to a Creme Brule but much lighter. It hit the sweet spot perfectly. They had live music entertainment (Kevin) who played great classics on guitar and sang a few as well. His volume was perfect - not too loud, and he truly added to the atmosphere. I believe for two of us, I spent $220 with an 18% tip. I would say well worth it. You will be pleasantly surprised and at the end extremely satisfied with the service, atmosphere, and of course, the great food. read more
