    an elevator in a building
    Jagruti L.

My family used to come here many years ago and recently stopped to check out the restaurant. The reason for one star is the elevator have been stinking for years. It really needs to be cleaned up as it is so disgusting to go to the top floor or leave down. The stairs is the other option. It is very dangerous to go up and down. Perhaps adding some kind of steps guard?

Throw out your food snobbery behavior and open your mind. Give this place a chance despite the cheesey surroundings. The place that is being reviewing here are the food court in the Pacific Plaza. Located between a couple of jewelery store and another restaurant. You can see the sign above (picture shown) or you can try to find in the back parking lot. Going inside the food court, you will see the different variety of counters where you can order your food. My two favorites ones are located closer to the main entrance door. When you enter, on the left side, there is noodle place where you can order noodle soup for $4. That usually hit the spot as it is not exactly a small bowl. They also serve other Taiwanese style dishes. On the righthand side, there is a counter where you can buy the economy meals. If you have ever been to Taiwanese restaurants, that tends to be the popular choices. In this particular counter, you can ordered a 3 dishes for $10.99. Additional cost for extra dishes. This tends to be one of my favorite when I am there with large group of people. There is also a Japanese food place and a tea bar. The strangest thing is that the tea bar actually have a Friendster page. I kid you not: http://www.friendster.com/7376398 The couple of drawbacks coming here are that the menus are not likely to be in English (big disadvantage because I can't read). On a busy night, not enough of tables and chairs. Now obviously I'm pointing out also it brings back memories of going to Taiwan. For some of us, it's the authentic food. For others, it's the sewer smell and dirty road. In this case, you get the best of both world. For the price, it matches the value you will be getting. Just leave your food snobbery at the door, you are definitely not in Beverly Center anymore.

We ordered the Big plate chicken to share, and let me tell you, it was phenomenal! The dish is a spicy chicken stew made with Sichuan peppercorns, cumin, and chili paste, and comes with handpulled noodles. It was my first time trying this type of Chinese-Uyghur crossover dish, and it definitely surpassed my expectations. The portion was incredibly generous as well, as the dish was more than enough for the two of us plus leftovers. All in all, our night out at Ma's Kitchen was a success! ****************** My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. We order the sautéed ong choy (water spinach), clams with basil sauce, and beef chow fun Hong Kong style for two. The lunch special menu also includes steamed white rice FOC and hot tea. The sautéed ong choy is perfectly stir fried and seasoned with plenty of garlic pieces. The clams with basil sauce are HUGE and once again perfectly seasoned. The beef chow fun (HK style) was a bit light on the seasoning, but tasted as expected. Overall, great value for some really good food! Portion wise, we only ordered three dishes and still had plenty of leftovers to take home. Good service, and typical Chinese restaurant ambiance. Definitely will come back to check out their other lunch specials and as well as their lobster dishes. Considering how many Chinese eateries in the area, it's worth checking it out. Parking wise, the park spaces right in front of the restaurant can be filled up quickly as there are only about a dozen spaces, so the safe bet is to park at the large plaza parking spaces to the side of the restaurant.

We just wanted to try these out & I just learned from the other reviews that these are jianbings. These seem simple and healthy since you can taste each ingredient - little to no salt other than from the hot dogs/sauces/cracker/chili oil used to make it spicy. Some might find that bland but I love the simplicity. Great snack/light meal, and more casual than typical Chinese restaurant food. The cart seems to be run by a husband/wife duo who work hard and are open every day from day to night. Nice to support a small local business!

It took about ten minutes for us to get a booth table, but we were waiting inside. The staff member called numbers firstly in Cantonese then in English. After we sat down, the waiting line persisted past 1 pm. Similarly, the bustling loudness continued on during the course of our meal. Food arrived quickly, however. The price point for the delicious food is competitive. We got French-style filet mignon ($18.99), braised tofu in brown sauce ($14.99), chicken chow mein ($14.99), and a steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork ($5.99). A pot of rice was included in our meal. The steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork was a nice appetizer that arrived first. I enjoyed how the French-style filet mignon was garnished with Thai basil, black pepper, and ginger. The meat was flavorful and tender. The braised tofu in brown sauce was consistently hot on the inside. The delicious brown sauce soaked throughout the vegetables. The chicken chow mein didn't have a lot of sauce, but it was still delicious with a lot of meat included. Overall, it would be nice to visit again outside of a peak time because the food prices are competitive. The menu is expansive, and the breakfast selections look interesting. The atmosphere during the Sunday lunch peak time was consistently bustling. I think the restaurant started to play Chinese music loudly at random points so that people could finish dining more quickly.
