Pacifica was a recommendation that I had looked into when I came to Palm Desert for my birthday last year, but ended up going with another restaurant. This time, I definitely wanted to try it out to see if it was just a restaurant that had a good view or if it was actually good. In short, the food really delivers here. A quick rundown: 1. Ahi Tuna Tartare: I had been debating between this or the Pacifica's Ceviche. After trying this, zero doubts that the right choice was made. I really liked the sake-soy sesame marinade for the tuna. And there was actually quite a lot of tuna. This was definitely a hit with me. 2. New England Clam Chowder: Pretty good clam chowder. Not very watery, which means it was probably cooked with some flour. Good flavor, I approved. 3. Pacifica's Caesar Salad: Any Caesar salad that has real anchovies in it is always going to be a hit with me. I thought the salad was really fresh too. 4. Pan Seared Chilean Seabass: The seabass had a nice honey-soy glaze and came with a green curry-coconut sauce. The seabass itself was excellent, perfectly cooked and the right amount of flavor. The green curry-coconut sauce was just alright, could've used a little more zest to it. But the important thing is the seabass was on point. Service here was great, no complaints here. We actually had two servers for out table, so we were more than well attended to. Ambience is great here, as I was led to believe. Definitely want to sit outside for the view of El Paseo and the Coachella Valley. Overall, given the price, quality of the food, and overall ambience, Pacifica delivered in spades. We have been coming to Pacifica for 6 years every summer. In my opinion it's the best restaurant in the desert. The staff are always welcoming and professional. If you want a more casual evening they tend to match you attitude. If you are there on a serious date their behavior matches it. Who ever trains their staff seriously goes above and beyond to make them the best versions of themselves. The food is always fantastic, I've never had a bad dish and I think I've tried almost everything. Their wine menu is extensive and they are always happy to advise on wine pairings. I hope Pacifica never changes, I rarely say that about a restaurant but Pacifica really is perfect in every way. And I'm aware this makes me sound like a brown noser, but I promise I am in no way affiliated with them restaurant. I've just had some of best dinners of my life here. read more

Seafood stew was great portion - tasty but didn't offer any crostini or bread for dipping in the stew. Even asked and server said nothing available but more bread. Swordfish was also excellent but on small bed of bland rice and a dollop of guacamole?!? Only thing to add was the salad portions were comicly small. I don't think Caesar was 2 cups. The scene at Pacifica is great... entertaining and a fun vibe. It was packed on a recent Saturday night, but my sis-in-law and I put our name on the list, went for a stroll, grabbed a drink elsewhere, and were alerted that an outdoor table was ready... score! We shared the ceviche and each ordered a salad with the special salmon... We also splurged on dessert as my SIL had recently celebrated a big birthday. The reason for 3 stars is that we both found the food to lack flavor. It was pricey, but we wouldn't have minded if there was more flavor. Service was great, but that's where the positives end. For $300 for two people, the experience at Pacifica was shockingly bad. I booked this reservation well in advance for a special date night with my wife, and they still wouldn't seat us on the patio--which I'm guessing was where all the ambiance was because inside, it was nonexistent and we were also sat at a table for 4. The food was awful. It tasted like something you'd get on a cheap carnival cruise, if that. The Caesar Salad and Chowder portions were laughably small--kids meal sized, honestly. The vegetables on the sides of our entrees were either cooked to a crisp or practically raw. Our last hope was the Bread Pudding, but even that was completely underwhelming. To make things worse, I read another Yelpers review saying this place should be Michelin star rated. That's honestly absurd. Between the bland, poorly cooked dishes, the lack of atmosphere, and the ridiculous price point, this was easily one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. One of my all time favorite restaurants in the desert. If you are looking for a meal to impress then Pacifica should be next on your list. I love this restaurant because they are located on the second floor which leads to a view of the shops & downtown hustle and bustle (okay not that much hustle in the desert but you know what I mean). They have lovely little private dining cabanas that are along the buildings edge. I'd highly recommend for some privacy and a better view. Service has always been 5 stars. Professional and friendly. Our waiters always are on top of it here. They know how to check in and keep your drinks flowing but also can read the table to give you that privacy when needed. The food is exceptional and I've never had a bad meal here. Given the quality and taste of the food I'd say it's well worth the $$$. We heard good things about this place before going. I went with a business group, 9 of us. It was a Tuesday so wine was half price. This was a surprise perk. Our bill was reasonable 9 at just under $1,000. I inquired with several people in my party about their food experience. The clam chowder was a hit, as were the bacon wrapped dates. Entrees were a different story. I had a NY strip that was cooked well but completely unseasoned. The potatoes were crispy but needed salt too. The Brussels were seasoned well but the texture was off, kind of wet. My buddy had swordfish and it was dry. Another member of the party had sea bass which was highly recommended. They weren't a fan either over done and not seasoned well. Our server was initially attentive and friendly but once entrees dropped we didn't see him again until time for desert. We tried several deserts, I only tasted the key lime pie. It wasn't anything special. At this price point I'd try other places before going back. I will say location ambiance and rooftop area is nice. I can see the draw aesthetically. We were there just after two weeks of festivals, so maybe they were all wore out. We had asked for more bread service four times but it never arrived. Tables around us were served additional bread, but we never got it. Good seafood but not amazing. I guess they have a more limited menu during COVID. They don't have a chilled seafood platter, nor a crab kimchi salad. However they have a Crab Louie salad that was great. The Ahi Tuna Tartare was average. The Seabass was good but not great. The curry coconut sauce was really just coconut milk with a splash of curry. Loved this place. Ordered the salmon, shrimp pasta and apple cobbler for dessert. Salmon was cooked just right. Shrimp in the pasta was very large and had good flavor. Dessert was great. Even during COVID-19, this was a pleasant experience due to the outdoor patio seating. Any restaurant that already had outdoor seating built in has definitely had a leg up on any competition. The drinks came quickly like ordering fast food. I even thanked the bartender when we left since she was all over the drink orders like barbecue sauce on chicken; excellent libations. Everyone raved about the salmon and the swordfish steak was thick and hearty; just the right amount of accoutrements to compliment its firm texture. The server recommend the sea bass, but I should have went with the full portion instead of the half. It was so tasty, I wanted more like a sailor wanting an extra ration of rum! I do wish the dish would have came out hot, it was just a pleasant warm and the coconut rice had already began to cool like a washcloth set aside after a long shower. The appetizers/salads/soups didn't come before the main course which was a huge faux pas from the kitchen. We weren't the only ones to experience untimely delivery of orders. The table behind us, who at least received their appetizers, were soon overwhelmed by their main courses almost immediately. I think they have a few kinks to work out to improve their dining experience. Someone is not paying attention to the pace of the meal and there needs to be communication between the back and front of the house. The server acknowledged the issue and brought a couple desserts to make amends for the error, which was nice. Acknowledging the issue and saying sorry is a big plus and keeps people coming back; however, it would be nice if it were just a pleasant evening without wondering how that missing salad would have tasted and if it would have made any difference in how full (or still hungry) I felt after a 1/2 order of bass. read more

Went back 2nd time to try the seafood stew, 1/2 lobster tail, scallops, 1 large prawn, clams, salmon and a white fish. The server brought red chili flakes which set it off. The seafood was very fresh and nothing overpowered the stew. The sour dough bread here will make you think you are in SF at The Wharf! Server tonight was distracted with personal conversations at other tables and slow, disappointing in comparison to Monday night server. She was excellent!
