Well first off our server was amazing. Very attentive and we always had refills and never had to ask for anything. We had a private area and it was nice and quiet. It was outside so there were bugs but that's expected because of course we were outside. Loved the koi fish and it was nice to see while we were eating. I was expecting the buffet to be bigger with more options ESPECIALLY since the weekend buffet is 40.95 per person. With what it had it was NOT worth the 40.95 at all. Way over priced. Hand rolls were not good at all and while at the station the chef kept putting it on my plate even though I didn't ask, I mean the 1 was ok but he kept putting it on there until I needed up with 4. Went here for a family event and didn't know what to expect it being our first time but it was great! We had the all you can eat buffet. My husband must have had at least 5 plates full of lobster legs. Everything was fresh and good. After eating I enjoyed feeding the koi fish in the surrounding pond. My kids took me here for my birthday.We had reservations but we did have a 15 minute wait.It was lunchtime an crowded.At that time the lunchtime buffet was $20.00 plus tax,an crab legs and prime rib was on the buffet line.Prices and choices may have changed.I went straight to the crab legs and prime rib.My second plate I checked out the hot buffet line.Poke,sushi,chicken,fried noodles, shrimp an vegetable tempura and much more.The steamed fish caught my eye an if I wasn't full I will have it, it was good,better then when I make it home.We all left Happy an full. On our return trip the prices went up.I went for crab legs an prime rib an sadly it wasn't available.I asked the staff who was refilling the buffet line and said crab legs,prime rib,an poke available only on special days like Mother's Day, Father's Day,other holidays.I was disappointed but the steamed fish was on the line.Sadly the soft serve ice cream machine was out of order. Okay, so it isn't exactly a floating pagoda restaurant like I recall from childhood memories, but the mix of turtles, koi and tropical marine fish in the tanks that surround the restaurant make it worth the visit on their own. They've got several baby tuna and other ocean fish, but their 3-foot+ parrotfish is the king of their tanks. Being a marine aquarist myself, I really appreciate the filtration setup and methods in which they maintain the brackish salinity. Oh and the food...it's a buffet that offers outstanding seafood and local Pacific cuisine with a notable dessert table filled with options you don't see everywhere. There was a huge cut of rib carved by a very friendly staff member. They had about a dozen sushi options that would rival most sushi shops in town, and pretty much any sushi shop in Fresno (CA). My local cousins tell me there are better buffets on the island, but then you're paying about $60-75 for those Top Named Hotel-hosted buffets. The location is convenient to most people, given they're adjacent to the mountain-side of Ala Moana shopping center. Pricing is only about $30 on weekdays and $40 on weekends. They've got several tables for larger parties of 10-12, and feature a couple of outside gazebo-enclosed round tables for about 10-12 people, as well. Let me know when you're going. I've only eaten at Pagoda for family parties and get togethers for meetings. Always for dinner. The best part of eating here is having a nicely spread buffet from salads to poke, from hot fish to prime rib and king crab legs! The waterfall is always nice to enjoy before going into the restaurant and watching the different Koi fishes swim brings a nice tranquility to the restaurant. The staff are friendly and service is great when you have a good waiter or waitress! Parking seems to be the only humbug about this restaurant, because you have various places to choose from: Ross across the street, parking ramp and special parking by the hotel side. We were really looking forward to the whole floating gardens thing, and I hadn't been there since small kid. What a joke. Stunk of fish as we walked in. Place was empty at 9:30 on a Saturday for breakfast. We were greeted by the manager, who then coldly told us that we would have to be out by 11 because they had a large party coming. Then she seated us way in the corner by the kitchen, which was enough for us. Place looks run down and very cafeteria like. And the smell lingers. We walked out and won't be back. I used to love coming here's for dinner each year upon my return to Honolulu each year. But for the last 3 Years the food quality has been going downhill. Last year it was terrible. I vowed to never eat here again. But a couple of weeks ago, I got a report that they got a new chef and the food was good again. So since we were again coming back to Honolulu, we decided to give Pagoda a try again. Well, our assessment is 3 stars at best. The food is slightly better than last year, but still not very good. One funny thing is in years past, the prime rib was far from prime -- maybe usda choice at a stretch. But last night the prime rib could have indeed been prime grade--tender and well roasted to a medium rare. However, the au jus was super salty!!! They took the limu ahi poke off the menu as well as the tako poke. The remaining Korean style ahi poke was under seasoned IMO. The noodles were dry; the tempura poorly prepared and cooked; the sushi was tasty but very unattractively prepared -- looked like someone with palsy made them. I was disappointed with the steamed fish. The dish was made with poor quality fish filets and very dry. And to top it all off, the price is now $41 pp without drink. So for this price, I expected more. All-in-all, the food was better than last year, but 3 stars at best. read more

Two words: Book PAGODA. Recently had my wedding reception held here last month, December 2017. I have been planning my wedding since I've gotten engaged...oh say, for three years! In all honesty, Pagoda wasn't my first choice. I've been emailing around other locations that were a bit more fancier but of course our BUDGET was a priority..I mean my husband and I were the ones paying for everything. We finally decided on Pagoda because of price AND my now father-in-law worked there. I also found out that my in-laws held their ceremony and reception there! What better way than to actually have our reception of where my in laws had theirs. Anyway, first thing we did was have my FIL reserved the room. We reserved the C'est si Ballroom about a year and a half in advance. Once that was done, we had menus to choose. We went with the international menu as it seemed more of an Asian and local foods combined. I didn't choose the menu until the week before our wedding. As months passed into 2017, I made a appointment to see the ballroom. I spoke to a lady (wish I remembered her name) who scheduled me for a preview of the room. When that day came, we walked into ballroom and went over my linens vendor and other vendors. Our ballroom had been renovated and I really like the vintage, old-school look of the ballroom. I loved the chandeliers. The chairs are outdated but with chair covers you wont even notice it. During or meeting, she gave me a ballroom map of how chairs and tables were going to be on my wedding day. The type of tables and layout used. Also included in the map were outlets, which I thought was handy because we have up lighting. Our visit was brief and the lady was SUPER nice and friendly. At that time we were supposed to meet with the catering Manager Darlene, but she was unavailable. As we were about a month and a half away, I scheduled another walk through this time with Darlene. She was SO wonderful, friendly, patient, and very pleasant to work with. She took her time explaining EVERYTHING...when I say everything, I mean everything to a tee. She made revisions and offered her suggestions and taking into consideration of our thoughts and feelings of how we wanted the reception to look and feel. She really put in A LOT of effort to help make my dream wedding reception into reality. At times I really wished she was my wedding planner! Lol. She even helped me pick out the uplighting color and was patient with me as I was being undecided. Luckily my husband was there to voice his opinion or we'd be there all day. As I got home from our meeting within a few hours she sent us a revised detailed floor plan. She was on top of it. I would have to say since that meeting, we met around 3-4 times after. Just finalizing our menu, our count, and making sure that the setup time of pupus, open bar, and buffet station were confirmed. The day before our wedding, Darlene was nice enough to have us store items in her office so that my wedding planner didn't have to worry about bringing things over. We also were able to leave our cake there overnight. Super grateful! Day of the wedding turned out AMAZING! It was everything I hoped for. Although Darlene was there to help the staff, she managed the whole reception area while standing on the side to make her presence less known. I mean, I can't thank her enough. Give Pagoda a chance. It's been years since I've been to Pagoda. My family and I used to go a lot when we were kids. I was looking forward to crab legs, roast and tempura so I was disappointed when the food wasn't what I expected. When we first arrived and checked in, I noticed a stench. It could've been a mixture of the pond water and old carpet? It was an odd odor that killed my appetite. We got seated in one of the teahouses. Very nice setting but you can tell it's old and is in need of a makeover. I wish there was a ceiling fan or ventilation of some sort because it gets hot and stuffy. I started with shoyu and spicy ahi poke. It wasn't fresh. You can just tell with the texture that it wasn't fresh. So I was bummed. Then I had some tempura. It was okay. Not as crunchy as I would like. I liked the sweet potato tempura better than the shrimp. Lastly, I dug into some crab legs. Disappointed again because it wasn't even warm. In fact, it was cold and didn't go well with butter. Also, we had to look for our host to ask for wet napkins. He gave us one packet each. There is no way you can clean your hands with just one. Sadly, my last visit didn't live up to my expectations and I don't think I'll be returning. I'd prefer to go to other buffet venues such as 100 Sails. read more

Lets get to the food. The group overwhelmingly thought the food was very good. The exceptions were the snow crab legs which had a good taste but hollow. I reserved a table at pagoda recently and found my visit to be quite pleasant. It was hard to find a time I really wanted with the amount of people that were attending (it was a birthday celebration). I ended up getting a rather early time (5:15 pm). We got there early and people were there around 4:45 ready to get their tables and get in line for the buffet. I decided to wait until 5 pm to go and check in because my party wasn't all here. The person at the front was nice. I checked in my table at 5 and they said it was ready and that we had the table until 7:15 pm. They are a very busy restaurant. My party and I finally sit and we immediately get up to get food. The little isles of food were easily accessible and there was a lot of variety. When a tray was empty it would be replaced with a new tray almost instantly. However, the line for the tempura, maki sushi, prime rib, and crab legs was ridiculously long. Me and my significant other waited 15-20 min to get there. We made sure we grabbed a couple plates each because there was a lot and nobody wanted to stand in line again. The food was acceptable. It got cold fast and there's so many to eat. Some desserts looked better than it tasted. Prime rib was good-- made to your desire. The crab legs were decent for a buffet (they do give special utensils and gloves-- sometimes upon request), the sushi was amazing. The tempura was good, tempura sauce was always hot. The service was good. I had to wait a couple times for a refill on my drink but it's understandable because it's packed all the time in the restaurant. It was amazing though, the workers are very respectful and are very careful when it comes to counting # people, # drinks, and if you qualify for a discount. The gratuity is already in the bill, which is fair. I actually liked that. And the bill breaks down everything. DISCOUNTS INCLUDE: birthdays, senior citizen, and babies/toddlers are free. I do not know about military discount. And you can't do birthdays/senior discount together, at least I couldn't. I had to choose either the free birthday or senior discount. I chose birthday. Drinks are a separate fee, not included in buffet price. But overall, I feel like the price for the buffet was unbeatable. It was a decent price for all you can eat. And for my grandfathers birthday, he got a free slice of cake with a candle. The place is beautiful, SO MUCH FISH. My 2 year old son loved the fish and they even have food to feed the fish, which he loved! Why do you want to go here? Answer: FEEDING THE FISH! KOI KOI KOI!!!! If you have ever wanted to own a fish tank then you know you just want to go here! OK- enough about the live fish.... Food, Is the food good? Not Roy's or Alan Wong quality but tastey. Not low turn around time like buffets that have food siting there. But the food moves and is good, just not over the top great. Price is high to me for buffet but it is still all you can eat so it is worth it for big eaters. Not just really worth it for keiki though IMHO. Beef and Fish are what I am after at the buffet, and i get my fill. Cooked well but still has that buffet cooked slightly too long feel to it, maybe because of the salt level in some of the food. I haven't stepped foot into Pagoda Floating Restaurant in a few years. Not only have I experienced how it was on my own but also in a rather large group. What a busy day it was for the restaurant and it was a dreary and rainy type of feeling. The pond looked hazy to see from the inside and the pagodas are filled with many large parties that reserved the area for their Christmas parties. Flashback to the beginning, when I was in the first stages of using Yelp, I heard of Pagoda Floating Restaurant from a friend. I was on the prowl for a tasty and meaty oxtail soup when I overheard a coworker whisper to me that I should give them a try. Only on one condition, and that's to report with feedback. I did just that. Pagoda Floating Restaurant first opened in 1964 which once was a vision by H.T. Hayashi. It is not only a dining place in conjunction to the hotel but a fun environment for all locals alike. Pagoda has embedded many memoirs from the past as well as presently continues booking many receptions for weddings, birthdays, graduations and all things special. The restaurant sits in a 360 degree view of an elegant and simple Japanese koi pond and tranquil waterfall. Entrance to the restaurant is through Rycroft St. where there are some street metered parking and a paid parking garage. The restaurant provides an eclectic ala carte menu of many local favorites to breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets. Should a group dine in during Christmas, the restaurant offers a Christmas brunch menu, Christmas Eve/dinner menu to New Year's Day brunch and dinner. My committee had made reservations ahead of time since lunch and dinner reservations are booking fast for many company holiday parties. Our party consisted of nearly 20 people and made reservations a month ahead for a lunch buffet. Upon arrival the place was already bustling from one end to another. Even the pagodas were fully booked which was perfect since the weather wasn't nice that day. Our tables were set with utensils and waters already poured. It was nice seeing the entire restaurant decorated for the occasion and it made celebrating fun and festive. Our server was very attentive with all that we needed even if we were there for the buffet. The food was nicely maintained on the buffet line and an overwhelming selection was ready for grabs, I will name a few I enjoyed. The Asian chicken salad was palatable, the bottomless pit of clams I can keep coming back to. The island style steamed fish was tasty and meaty. The teriyaki chicken was decent, and the sautéed veggies were surprisingly fresh. I must have gotten the new batch. I'm normally not a tofu fan; however, I kept returning for many helpings of it. I truly do not recommend the ahi poke here since the color nor the smell seem fresh. Otherwise, the buffet was enjoyable with the group. Another time I've visited on my own, I've ordered many helpings of their large servings of Oxtail Soup (no really, it's LARGE). It's the perfect remedy for the sick or simply a nice to go dish to take home during a cold rainy night. You might even get a couple meals out of it. Their crispy honey chicken is immensely mouthwatering and filling. I loved every bit of crunch as it was fresh from the pan while sautéed in scallions over my bed of rice. We were able to get a table right by the buffet line =) They had assortment of things, I tried the sushi, baked salmon and went back several times for crab legs and prime rib. There are other stuff buy I'm here for the seafood! Servers took care of us, bought PLENTY of napkins and handwipes. Refilled drinks often. My only gripe is the drinks were disgusting. I gave it a score of 3/5 stars because the foood was awful. It was a self serve buffet (lunch) I arrived about 12:30 for the reservation I made but the mentioned nothing about. I was seated rather quickly. Wasn't that busy. But the Buffett layout was not appealing and tasted dry. It was both visual and texturally obvious that the food has been sitting out for a very long time. The top was dry, each dish was 1/2 gone. The rice was hard in places. The gravy on top of the meat had turned to crust. I did not say anything but I did witness an older auntie ask to speak with a male manager or supervisor after her party of about 6 had left. She told him she was disappointed in the food today and she asks him what changed. So I am assuming, the food is normally good and I caught it on a bad bad day. Great restaurant. The restaurant I had reservations at months in advance had Suddenly closed leaving me only a few days to find another place for 33 people with a budgeted price and a Private Room. As I got on the phone & started calling all booked! So I called the Pagoda Floating Restaurant although they were booked the Management not only accommodated our large group with my Budgeted price and also included a Private room for us to meet! Awesomeness. I had to change the time for us to go there but No problem! The ladies enjoyed a delicious Buffet with so many varieties of food and the Desserts? Overwhelmed with chocolate, vanilla, chocolate swirl cups of ice cream & sherbet. Plus Otter pops and ice cream sandwiches & ice cream bars. Did I mention the Guava cake, Haupia, Taro/guava bread pudding, and more! My favorite was the Ahi Poke. Yum! Plus the Service! Our water, ice tea, green river, fruit punch glasses, coffee never went empty! Plates cleared quickly so we could go back for more! I hosted my friends bridal shower at the Pagoda Floating Restaurant during brunch and this was many of our first time there. We sat in one of the outside tea houses. It was very cute but not much room, just enough for the amount of people you have in your party to sit. The food was good and a good variety for the price you pay. I try to find good things about things but the only ones I found for this is the scenery: surrounded by Koi fish pond and there's a small waterfall fountain at the back great for pictures. But there's the down side to that... it stinks... when you're inside it's nice clean spacious, not over crowded with tables. Now the food......... not so great I only like 1 dish... the spicy ahi (not really spicy) that's it.. the staff doesn't smile, not even a grin.. food selection is really small.. there's an all you can eat crab.. but it's extra on your bill.. not worth paying more than 20$ just for crab... came here once, hasn't been back since. If you like/love seafood then this place is for you. If not (just like me--I'm allergic) then its best for you to find another buffet to go to. FOOD: Being allergic to seafood and shellfish, I couldn't eat much from here. I settled for some chicken and japchae (which was a little spicy but it was alright). The kalbi was cut in small pieces but the pieces were mostly bone and NO meat! They have a dessert bar; soft serve ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, cake, pie, almond float. The soft serve was too soft in my opinion and a bit too watery but it was nice that there was topping that you could help yourself to. SERVICE: The service was okay, some had to ask multiple times for water (the waitress forgot). She cleared the plates away quickly. Went there with family on Father's day 2021. Person serving the prime rib had an attitude. He was slamming the utensils and the food unto my plate. There were a large group of Tongan church people there also. About 70 - 80 of them. I guess he was mad he had to serve non Asian people. If your not Asian and going to eat there consider this review. read more
