Was my favorite coffee on the Cape when they had Speedwell beans. They have their own thing now, which is still good, but has me seeking a better cup. Quality of food is 5 star. Only issue it the availability is inconsistent. If you love something and go back it may not be available or not yet. They seem to cook in small batches and some of that sells quickly, and based on the clientele of the morning. Have dined in, taken out, stopped for cookies, just for coffee, tried a dozen items or more, and keep going back. It is expensive though. read more

My review is strictly on the service at the Hyannis location. I can't review on the food as after almost 2 hours waiting for our meal it never showed up so we lift. We went to the location for a post wedding brunch family gathering. We knew it would be busy but were in no hurry as it was about family and friends. We got there when the event started and my wife & I were seated at a table of 6. Everyone ordered and got their food within 15 minutes except my wife and I. When I asked I was rudely/grumpily responded the group was +75 and I needed to be patient. I understood and accepted. After another 30 minutes, the people we were sitting with finished their meal and then left followed by 4 new people being seated with us. The same rude waitress took their order. When I asked about our order I was given the same rude response. I accepted as I did not want to make a scene at this celebration. When the new people's orders were delivered, and no sign of ours again I asked about hours, the rudeness got worse telling my my meal would be up in a moment.. At one point in time the server even put a plate down with what I ordered then quickly picked it up saying it was not mine and gave it to someone at the next table who was seated only 10 minutes earlier. After 1 hour, 45 minutes we decided to leave with no food and when our host asked why I told them why. They then called over the server and manager where the server quickly responded she did not know there was an issue. The manager offered to quickly make our meal and what was it. I told him to ask his server - she could not/would not respond. As we stood up the server rudely said she could have a sandwich to made for me. I responded I did not have anther 2 hours to wait for that. Apparently by the reviews, the food is great. Unfortunately the service is very rude and poor. read more

This restaurant is in Hyannis, MA. We went for dinner on Sunday Sept. 20th. Maggie ( with the pink glasses) was our server. Maggie was the icing on the cake for sure. It was our first time at this restaurant. The food was excellent. We shared the escargot persillade, French onion soup and the mushroom special as appetizers. All were excellent. When the escargot arrived in the sizzling garlic butter we both started salivating and laughing, hoping it would taste as good as it looked and smelled. It did! For dinner we shared the filet special which came with tons of spinach with pine nuts and Yukon gold potatoes. Excellent in every way. Lick your plate kind of good (We did not but wanted to). First off the food looks great... online at least. Great care went into the photography and graphic design online for this place. Everything has a French name for some reason, it seems like someone has a fetish for France frankly. Place was lively though with an older crowd and parking lot filled so they have returning customers. I went in with my partner to order bacon with eggs on toasted brioche and was informed the breakfest menu ended a few hours earlier. Which was a shame, I get the menu had switched to lunch but it's a small menu and this doesn't seem like a terribly hard thing for the kitchen to make but they say they don't do it so there must be a reason. Accommodating venue with exceptional staff. The best servers and staff that I have met in many years. They were proactive, attentive, and very polite. The wine selection was immaculate and complimented the meal perfectly. We enjoyed fried prosciutto for the first time which is my new favorite appetizer. One of the highlights of our summer vacation is always our annual dinner at Pain D'Avignon. It WAS the only place I've found that made steak tartare in the true French way but we were so disappointed they've changed it. For years it's been spot on with raw egg and toast points but not anymore. The service was slow but to our waiter's credit he hustled but they were definitely understaffed for a Friday night. So my husband and I went for lunch. We both ordered a burger. Easy enough. We were first served a burned bread basket. Ok. I got homemade chips with my meal and he got truffle fries. They would have been good but were alarmingly both inedible due to the amount of salt. The burgers were cooked as asked on the inside but scorched on the outside. Burned. This place has gone down in quality over the past 15+ years. I used to frequent this place but their prices have increased substantially over the years while their portions have become much smaller. I don't find their coffee or baked goods that impressive. All their breads tend to be hard. Their cafe is somewhat charming but overall the food is just not that good for the price. It's sad bc it used to be a nice little Bistro. They also only employ J-1 employees instead of qualified locals so they can capitalize on cheap labor. They don't donate ANY of their breads or baked goods to local shelters either. They throw away everything in their dumpster every night. Panera donates all of their unused food, breads & baked goods to Boston metro food kitchens which is wonderful. So for all these reasons, I can't, in good conscience, patronize this establishment. read more

I booked this French Restaurant on Open Table for our last night on the Cape and it did not disappoint. It is located on a side street very near the local airport. It could be difficult to locate so just put it in your WAZE app. We had a fabulous evening here, with top notch servers (Johnny) attending to our every perceived need without being intrusive. The food was spectacular and the wine list phenomenal. They have their wines displayed in a large cellar at the rear of the restaurant. A sight to see. The prices of course varies but the selection is there. My husband was in Heaven, just ogling at it!! This place also bakes all their own breads and supplies bakeries, restaurants far and wide. No wonder, the bread is truly artisanal and they give you a couple of loaves to leave with. How nice is that?! Our meal was top notch high end dining, a rarity in Cape Cod. So I'm glad we had this reservation for our last hurrah. It truly was a lovely end to the spectacular time we had in Cape Cod and the islands. read more

The machine of our order broke down and they almost forgot out order. They noticed and informed us promptly. Our orders were taken again. We had Father's Day brunch there yesterday in their outside dining patio. It's according to the phase 2 Covid-19 guidelines, although I highly doubt there was 6 feet of space between some of the tables. It was a significant wait for a relatively shady spot, even though we had asked for one when we made the reservation. This is the second time I've tried this place and now I have learned I will only go there for bread and pastries. The servers are very nice but it's a slow process. Make sure you leave ample time. The food was not outstanding and please, whatever you do, do not order the white asparagus and citrus salad thinking you are going to get a salad with greens. It is basically 5 stalks of asparagus and three pieces of citrus for $18. It's not even worthy of being called an appetizer. The chocolate croissant was 1 of the best I've ever had. I'm shocked that it would be in Hyannis. The brownie was out of this world...crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Based on reviews from Yelp friends, I decided to swing by there for lunch while I was in the neighborhood. It's tough to find this spot, hidden among the hot mess of airport buildings, gas stations, and industrial-looking warehouses. However, it's worth the search. The decor and atmosphere might be the most negative thing I have to say for this spot. The restaurant area has an identity crisis - doesn't know if it wants to be a bar or a bakery/cafe. During lunchtime, the music was just WAY too loud. I didn't really care for the concrete flooring. The overall look of the place lacks warmth and comfort. The baked goods I bought were...a mixed bag. The plain croissant was excellent and had all the aspects of a legit croissant: crispy and flaky exterior, with a soft and airy texture inside. The almond croissant is just the same...but with a few almonds on top. However, that doesn't impress me. I like almond croissants with more almond flavor, like with a marzipan taste to it (kinda like French Memories in Cohasset). The cinnamon pecan roll just didn't work out that well. The overly-hard texture wasn't impressive. So why the 4 stars? I loved the croque madame at the restaurant. The portion was huge and the flavor was tremendous. Two slices of wonderful bread (I think sourdough), topped with ham, robust (and I mean robust) cheese, two over-easy eggs, and arugula. That, along with a strong ginger beer to cut into the richness of the croque madame, made for a nice lunch. The service was above-average, as the lady at the counter was patient and explained everything to me graciously. I might have to try the breads next time. read more

First of all, let me say that this place is cute, sexy, and charming. I wasn't expecting this ambience based on the fact that a wholesale bakery/factory is attached to the back. The bar, painted bright red, was a really nice place to spend time sipping a cocktail and enjoying a dessert. I ordered the hazelnut pound cake and a gin cocktail suggested by the bartender, which was absolutely delightful. The cake was a tiny bit dry, even for pound cake, but the maple cream topping, the glaze, and the lovely bits of crumbled merengue made up for it. I've encountered a couple "misses" in service but today I think did it for me. My wife and I dropped almost $40 on coffee, pastries, and we were rudely chased out of our seating location only to be directed to another section that was full. I told them it was full. They just walked away. We sat in a section close to the full section to be yelled at again. We asked where we can sit and they pointed to a bar section that was stacked with loafs of bread with no room for our food/drink. Then they start reorganizing the bread and they realize there is no way to make room for us there so they say go back to where you were sitting originally. I don't know what the big harm is in sitting somewhere when the place is 90% empty. Give us full service. It was cold and rainy so sitting outside wasn't appealing. Sorry but as a fellow business owner, I think they can do better. Hoping constructive and honest feedback can make establishments stronger. read more

Recently dined at PAD and it has always been one of our favorite dinner spots. We decided to visit on a whim.... and were treated so horrifically by the host, Shay, that we thought it was a joke. After reading reviews I realize it was no joke. We walked in to a fairly empty restaurant and Shay was drinking an espresso. We asked for a table of 2. He literally looked me up and down and walked with his espresso looking for a table. Said we could sit there if we were out by 7. When we saw the table we asked for a different one. He ROLLED his eyes and lamented. Really? This is Cape Cod and it's the off season. You aren't at a Michelin Star restaurant. Food was ok. The snails were bland and toast was burnt. Seafood special was exquisite. We spent $185 and didn't order dessert because we had to leave before the better clients arrived. Service here is laughably bad, but I try not to let that get in the way of a good time. It starts with the host, who acted like he was doing my wife and I a gigantic favor by seating us. (Mind you we had a reservation, were prompt, polite, and dressed properly for an evening out). It was a full 20 minutes before we received a drink, of which the first 18 minutes we were completely ignored. Our waiter was quite odd and awkward, while carrying through the hosts' wildly pretentious attitude, to boot. E.g. when I ordered a Buffalo Trace Manhattan up, he legit scoffed and said, "I've never heard of such a thing." Whatever, guy, enjoy your generous tip. Anyway, onto the food. My escargots were over-cooked, but my wife's white asparagus with truffle vinaigrette (special) were quite tasty. Oh and their bread is some of the best I've ever eaten - legitimately. I had the duck confit risotto for an entree, which was good, but could've been great if it had more seasoning. The confit component was expertly executed, I will say. My wife ordered the steak frites, but was served the steak special of the night. We didn't bother to say anything, given the aforementioned issues with the service. Her steak was cooked properly, but egregiously under-salted. Thankfully there was a potent sauce with a blue cheese base, to impart some flavor. Given how good their pastries are, which I've experienced in the past, I would consider giving PDA another shot, but I am not exactly running to go back. If you go, don't expect to be treated well; you are not the staff's equal (in their eyes). read more
