The restaurant itself is nice and had a lot of family enjoying their meals. The parking lot is large because it's located at the mall and they have a drive thru. The sandwich I got wasn't fantastic. It was a regular sandwich I could have made at home but I was too lazy to make lunch at home. It did the job to fill me up and it was about $8 with a side of chips. ***Negative*** too many teenagers loitering in the area. There has been a lot of teenagers robbing other teenagers and committing some petty stuff. Security doesn't really do much about it. Wanted to pick up a souffle and scone for my wife early Sunday. Placed the order on Saturday for 6:10AM pickup online which I thought was VERY cool. Great process. Today was the worst day I have ever had at Penera Bread in a long time ! My 10 year old Daughter and I eat there almost every day ! Several weeks ago we joined the Sip Program for $5.00 dollars only to find out we were being billed $590 each time we bought a drink which came to over $60.00. We placed our order inside for 3 breakfast souffles, 2 smoothies, and 1 breakfast sandwich. 30+ min after placing our order, we received our smoothies and sandwich but no breakfast souffles. This is my first review on Yelp. Panera is a big chain with resources to train their staff properly on how to manage orders. As much as the chain operates under the auspice of "fresh from the oven to table" bakery, I'm not naive enough to believe the breakfast souffles are baked from scratch to order. C'mon folks, use some common sense. It's early Sunday, plan accordingly to anticipate a rush on orders. If your staff sees customers sitting near the pickup window after checking on our names twice in the span of 40 minutes, that should be a clue something isn't right. If you sell a souffle, set it aside or give it to the customer immediately so it doesn't get sold twice. Please Panera at Otay Ranch, properly train your staff to manage the drive through/online/in person orders. Messing up a simple order early on a Sunday morning when you should already know you'll be facing the busiest morning of the week. Once I found black slime on my salad another time the tomatoes were spoiled and slimy. I felt bad for her, it was as if she was just eating plain slices of bread. My other friend ordered a sandwich that indicated Apple... She had to search her the apple, which ended up being tiny chopped pcs. A whole lot of veggies were thrown on, some looked like coleslaw... We also tried their m&m cookie that tasted and looked as if it should have been baked just a minute or so longer. I love me some chewy cookies.. But it was on the verge of doughy. I'm usually a big fan of Panera bread. Not sure what went wrong this time. Recently visited with a few friends and ordered mac and cheese. Now the portion I got was RIDICULOUS. basically gave me 8 ounces of sauce for 3 pieces of noodle. I've ordered this exact item at this exact location 100 times and have never had this happen to me before. I understand it was 30 minutes before closing and they might have just wanted to get this order finished with but this is not right. When I went to the window and asked if there was anything I could do they said no. I respect this as it isn't really up to the employees, however what I can't respect is the way the employee acted when I went up to the window and asked. They were rude and basically just ignored me. I will never get mac and cheese from them ever again for multiple reasons: the rude customer service, small portions and expensive prices especially when Barrons which is a 2 minute walk has way cheaper and fresher mac and cheese. I've been to Panera plenty of times since it first opened, and I've always been a fan. It's a big, open sit down place. Not to mention, it has free wifi--great for those of you who would like to study. Why just study, though, when you could eat, as well? Their broccoli cheddar soup is my favorite. That, with an iced green tea is perfect! For the "choose two" meal, I always get the soup along with any half sandwich that includes avocado. Panera had a toffee nut cookie which was SO sweet and savory, but they rid it last year or so... Very unfortunate. The food is good, nonetheless. If the option was available, I would give Panera Bread zero stars. On 11 December, my niece and her best friend went to Panera Bread on Birch Road in Chula, Vista, CA. They had an order of $50, Panera Bread is to expensive. My niece and her friend were seated with their meals and were studying for their high school final exams. They are both honor roll students taking AP courses. While in the middle of studying and eating, a male assistant manager approached their table, told them they couldn't study in there, as the table was needed for other customers. My niece and her friend were not finished with their meals, but they left and went to Barnes and Noble. They were very upset and my niece was visibly shaking and crying when she arrived home telling her parents about their experience. My niece mentioned the store was closing in 30 minutes. I called Panera Bread customer service to submit a complaint on 19 Dec 2023 and as of today, 4 January 2024, there has been NO RESPONSE, but somehow I was emailed a survey to respond to my experience with the representative who took down my complaint. I called back to Customer Service and was told by the same representative that someone would contact me within 48 hours. The other part of the story is that I have been calling the actual location in Chula Vista to speak with the manager and have been given the absolute run around since 19 December 2023 about the manager not being, that she'd be back on a certain day, she is the regional or district manager and she visits other stores. I am pretty sure he is probably the Assistant Manager that put my niece and her best friend out of the restaurant. My niece said he was a white guy. His behavior was abhorrent. Perhaps he didn't like them because of their race, my niece is biracial and her best friend is asian. It saddens me that we live in a world where people are mistreated based on the color of their skin. I have been eating at Panera Bread for as long as I can remember and often went there to study during both undergrad and when I was in grad school. I have met up with classmates and friends doing the same and never once experienced the type of behavior displayed by that Assistant Manager at the Birch Rd location in Chula Vista CA. I have since stopped eating at Panera Bread and will never eat there again. I will definitely be sharing my niece and her best friend experience on all of my social media platforms and through personal contact. That assistant manager should not be a manager if he doesn't know how to treat ALL customers with kindness and respect, regardless of the color of their skin and shame on Panera Bread for not following up on my complaint submitted on 19 December 2023. read more

This spot gives above average food but it's expensive to get full for brunch! When mama dukes and I came for brunch on Saturday morning around 10 am, there was a line almost out the door. It wasn't too bad because the line went fairly fast. When I got to the front, the guy at the register was really nice. We ordered 3 sandwiches, 2 muffies, 2 coffees and a mocha. It came out to about $25. Kinda expensive if you ask me. I had the power protein breakfast sandwich. This sandwich was delicious BUT it left me wanting more. I ordered the same sandwich for my sister. She was running a few minutes late so her sammich was untouched when I finished mine. I felt like Panera had made one whole sandwich and cut it in half to give to me and my sister and charged us over $4 each a piece. Kind of a rip off and I felt like eating her piece but didn't. On Dec 11, 2023 the manager at this location kicked out several students who ordered food and was studying while they ate. My daughter who is an AP student came home in tears. The food arrived late and my daughter and her friend were kicked out before they finished their meal because they had books and were studying! This review is on the new location next to Jack in the Box. The new building is really nice. Has a nice look. It seems to have less sitting areas compared to the old location. It's sad, because we went during what seemed to be a busy time. I had my wife and baby with me and we couldn't find seats. Luckily someone was nice enough to move tables. -1 star The food is what you'd expect from a Panera. Nothing fancy. The register lady was not happy to be there at all. No smile or greeting.
