My son and I finally walk into the place with no one in line around 6:30 pm. Two young girls one cleaning up pagers and cleaning up area? We already knew what we wanted when we came up to the pastry counter as they had only a few items on display. After waiting over 5 minutes to get their attention. The young blond with blue eyes server tells us she will be able to help us. She walks away from us washes her hands then runs to the bathroom. The other server ignores us the whole time. She did answer the phone and tells us she will be with us? They finally got to us 15-20. My son asked for a smoothie which the blond goes to make. We literally left 30 mins. later with our order. When my buzzer went off I dropped it in the basket and looked for my salad. No salad to be found, I asked the gal where my order was and she asked me for my pager which I told her was in the basket. When I walk in the employees say hi to me while I'm in line, they're quick to get my order made, and today I discovered a cookie in my bag with "Because people are rude :-) Have a good day" written on it. You see, as you walk in, you're expected to hang back away from the counter to wait in line for a cashier. This lady walked right around me and up to a cashier as someone else finished their order. I wanted to say something, but I didn't want to run up and be the jerk who yells at the old lady for cutting in line. When I got to the cashier (the one who served the cutter), I told her that that gal had cut in front of me. I know I was freaking out, and I apologized 'cause it definitely wasn't her fault, but I was fuming. The food order online was a bit confusing since my credit card address didn't add up with the delivery location so we had a little bit of trouble processing the order, but once through all was good. I went into this store a couple of days ago to pick up some soup for my sick mom. I ordered two large soup so my mom would have food for a couple of days. I get to her house and take the soup out of the bag only to find two small cups, which I paid $18.00 for. I've been to Panera before and enjoyed their soup in a bread bowl, but today I was on a new mission. For the past week I've been craving a panini and I knew they made them but I haven't tried them. I was looking specially for a panini with avocado. They have a turkey BLT with avocado so I asked our cashier, Tusi, if they could turn that into a panini and he said they could. Then I read about the Frontega Chicken Panini and that sounded delicious. I told him I changed my mind and rather than being annoyed, he gladly rang in my new choice and asked if I'd like avocado added to it, knowing I had my heart set in a panini with avocado. Yes please! It was brought to our table in a timely manner, not the pager system I've experienced in the past, and we thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches. It was exactly the panini I had been thinking about a week, without knowing it was the one I wanted. It was warm and delicious. The onion slices were very finely sliced as not to overpower it. I even ate my tomato and that's saying something. I ordered for the first time from this place, online, and paid ahead for pickup. I've never been here before, but my husband is really sick and I wanted some chicken soup for his dinner. I went in, and soon could see there was a pickup line and an ordering line. I went to the pickup line and the young man behind the counter asked me if I was waiting for a pick up order. I said yes. He then proceeds to completely ignore me. Didn't ask my name. After 5 minutes or so goes by, I stepped back up to the counter and asked him how he knew my order wasn't already ready, since he didn't ask my name? He very snootily asked my name and then told me there were no orders by that name. I was 1/2 an hour later picking up than I had anticipated coming from Portland where I work, so I showed him the email that said the order was ready. He told me again there were no orders under my name. I then read the email to him and asked "It says it's at the rapid pickup counter. Where is that?" He said: "I have no idea." Another customer showed me where it was and pointed to my name, as everyone waiting had witnessed this exchange. Never, EVER will I order anything from this restaurant ever again. The food is always good but whenever my roommate and I get rapid pick up they mess it up somehow. No attention to detail on the order. They usually seem like they're aloof and don't care. They skimp on salad dressing, forget an extra added ingredient, use inconsistent salad ingredients like different greens, they've given me the wrong soup multiple times. Worst experience yet in 4 years going to this location. After last weeks cold meal, flatbread pizza, I decided to give curbside pickup another chance. I waited, and waited, and waited! More than seven minutes after the order was to been ready, I finally went inside to talk with the on duty manager. All he could do is tell me they were working on the order and it would be ready shortly. After a few more words expressing how horrible last weeks order was, he offered to refund the meal and give me what was already made. The half sandwich was smothered in mayonnaise and the Mac and cheese was luke warm at the least. For $17 including a $2 tip, I would expect better food and better service. So in the last week, I've had three bad experiences at this Panera Bread location and I don't plan on returning any time soon. Ms. Tinker, the operator or this restaurant, doesn't keep the doors open giving away free food because of the lack of skill by the management! I'm sure she'd be pretty upset that her crew couldn't get a simple order out on time. I counted about three tables with dine-in customers. So was it call in orders or delivery that caused the backup? The store looked in shambles. Misplaced chairs, unwiped tables, trash on the ground and filthy windows! I wish I could say better things about this Panera, but enough is enough. We get morning coffee (and a nosh) at Panera often (4-5 times a week). The few times we have visited THIS SPECIFIC PANERA we have been incredibly disappointed. Unattentive staff, bad allocation of team members (1 working register with a long line), and a staff attitude bordering on unprofessional ("That's awesome" when informed they were out of coffee). Overall, this branch could kill my love of this brand if I came here again. But don't worry about that. This Panera is okay. The help is lacking energy and charisma. Every time I go in specifically for a soufflé they are always out no matter what time of morning I go. It's nice they bring the food to you instead of the buzzer they used to give you. I'm not a fan of how they rearranged the drink and condiment area. They've got it all tucked away down low. It used to be out in the open and easy to grab. Sometimes I wonder about the chefs at corporate. The combinations and the way they make some of the sandwiches just seems odd. Last thing I had was a turkey cranberry sandwich. I've had something like that from other places, but the new twist of sandwich ingredients at Panera made it taste awful. Oh well, it's a chain. meh. Let's tell it like it is: Panera is a National Chain with 1000+ bakery-cafes in 38 states still trying to hold down that "local bakery" charm. And while I see the value in predictable restaurants such as Panera and the likes of Cheesecake Factory and Benihana, I'm just not sold. In essence, Panera is the Wal-mart to those local artisan bakeries that we all rave about. While I'm not one to complain about free wi-fi and cozy fireplace settings...is it just me, or is it a little awkward to find the exact same cookie-cutter setting and menu in each location? It's like I'm stuck in carbo-loaded Groundhog Day remake. But for the right patron, there is value. Notice - you won't find a Panera within city limits. Hillsboro and Vancouver are our two choices, so read: effective and affordable family stop. My niece & I were going out for dinner tonight. Not wanting anything too heavy, I suggested either Chipotle or Panera Bread & had my niece decide between the 2. I'd never been to Panera but she & my son both like it so I thought I'd give it a try. We both opted for their "You Choose 2" combo - 1/2 Cafe sandwich + a cup (I believe) of soup for $6.99. We each chose the tuna salad sandwich + chicken noodle soup. My 19-year old niece, bless her, feels she has a discerning palate so she thought the soup & sandwich were "not bad". Having cooked since I was 10 years old (More decades than I prefer to admit to... ;-) and managed restaurants for 13 years, I was rather disappointed with both. Their honey-wheat bread was decent but not special. The tuna salad lacked seasoning & had too much mayo. On the plus side, the tomato was ripe & had good flavor. However, a stack of 2 slices on a small 1/2 sandwich seems a bit much. The biggest issue with the sandwich was that there *might* have been 3-4 tsp. of tuna salad - a very small amount, even for a 1/2 sandwich. As for the chicken-noodle soup, it too was very under-seasoned. The broth was so plain. It seemed as if some of the ingredients were cooked separately. The noodles were nearly white - the same color as the few bits of chicken, which appeared to be shredded, roasted breast meat rather than cooked in the soup. There were large slices of carrot, which is good, but the onion & celery were cut very thin & cooked until they were barely visible. Happily, the counter service was very good, the decor was nice, and the restaurant was clean. Pity that doesn't make up for boring, uninspired food. read more

I was at least a weekly regular at my local Panera bread in Houston, and yesterday on our way to Whole Foods we decided to stop here to grab dinner. I thought that being a national chain meant that there would be consistency, but not when it came to the kids meal! The cashier did not ask us what we wnted for our daughter to drink. When we got to the table and realized this I went back and asked for a juice or milk and was told that would be a $1.85 charge! I never remember paying extra before, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here; it could be that other cashiers have asked me what I wanted and then charged me for a kids drink without my knowing, I don't regularly check my receipts unless it seems like something is off. Usually a kids meal includes a drink. Now for the food...I got my usual, 1/2 soup&sandwich. I got the smokehouse turkey panini, which had way too much sauce on it, and a new soup called the Lemon chicken orzo. The soup had good ingredients and a lot of potential, however it was pretty flavorless. It was like spinach, orzo, chicken and hot water. I was pretty disappointed leaving, but I can't say I will never go to panera again, it has been consistent for me in the past so it could be this location, or even just a bad day for them! read more
