Place is recently renovated and certainly shows. Loved the different stations, price wise is good for all they have to offer. The only meh I found is that tepanyaki station, looks great however flavor wise; it's missing something. I've tried the new Paradise Buffet, where hometown used to be, and it was really good. It is very clean. They have a good drinks selection, from sodas to coffee and tea. They have Chinese, sushi, American, and a Mongolian food section. They also have various desserts. Prices do vary from lunch, dinner, weekend and holiday. Drink is an additional price. I think it is worth the price as you get a variety of food. Food is constantly being made. I don't recall seeing any empty trades. Price was fair and the food is pretty much like any other buffet but what stood out was the bowls you can create yourself with different types of veggies, meats, noodles and sauces! I brought my grandparents and their friend for my grandma's birthday since it used to be one of their favorite places because of the variety of food and free birthday meal. Usually you just show your ID the day of your birthday and they give you a free meal but I don't know why this time they took my grandma's ID, passed it around to all of the hosts present at the cashier, and smirked and laughed when they saw it before they finally let us in. The quality is that of a buffet so don't expect fancy fish or the best orange chicken but there is enough selection to find what will make you happy and full. There are some delicious picks though. My little family and I decided to come here to eat! We came on Sunday which was very busy and a bit more expensive than the other days. I was actually surprised by how many options there was here! They had almost everything here that even if you didn't like this type of food I'm sure you'd find something you like regardless. I came here because of the good reviews but left feeling underwhelmed. I'm someone who has been to a lot of Chinese buffets in my lifetime and just did not think this one was good enough to revisit. This buffet is newer and is clean, which I really appreciate from a buffet like this. But the food was just very bland. Rangoons were cheese-only, lacked salt or any seasoning. Seafood seemed semi-fresh (crayfish sometimes had a hard time coming out of the shell), but the lack of seasoning made it all pretty bland. Some of the fish did not taste good at all, like super earthy tilapia. Sushi was just ok but unusual with weird combos like tilapia + canned tuna, shrimp + a lot of mayo-based filling. A lot of the food seemed more like American food from a Golden Corral; there weren't a lot of Chinese choices that you would expect from a Chinese buffet. The best items in my opinion were the egg foo young (actually better than the foo young from a lot of takeout places I've been to), chicken wings, and salt and pepper shrimp (though those had the opposite problem of being a little too salty). There wasn't crab here, but for the price of $18.99 (dinner), I wasn't really expecting crab legs. I just wish there were more variations of shrimp and shellfish. The only other shrimp dish was the shrimp fried rice which was wet, bland, and not really fried at all (really not great for a Chinese place). I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. I would say that their recipes just need a little extra spice/flavor but everything was edible. Checked this place on a weekday and it was pretty packed. Can't imagine how busy it gets on a weekend. Service is a little strange. You have to pay at the counter for your whole party when you arrive. They give you your water/drink cups before you find seats on your own. The drink cost extra but I only had water so that wasn't a problem. Servers were pretty attentive and picked up empty plates fairly often. There's a good selection of both savory and sweet food that's standard for buffets. Good variety of fresh sushi but way too much rice packed with each piece. I thought the Mongolian grill good, but don't get beef. The cuts are really lean so it dries up like jerky immediately. Make sure to be generous when adding sauces because nothing is seasoned beforehand. Desserts left a lot to be desired. The cheese cake and coconut cream pie didn't have the appropriate firmness or texture to be classified as either. They were also room temperature which was a little off putting. Would really prefer if they were put some of the desserts in refrigerators. Overall, pretty good food for the cost. I'd come back if I was in the mood for buffet. read more

Simply wow. The buffet spread is great with Chinese food and Sushi. They have cheese wontons, egg rolls, and everything you would find in a normal Chinese Buffet. The have pizza and fried chicken and French fries for the kids. I can't name every dish, but there is something there for everyone, even a salad bar. They have a great Mongolian Grill. The line usually is long, so if no one is there, best go there fast before the line builds up. The place is clean and spacious. For desert they have pies, cakes, ice cream and cotton candy. This buffet is for the kind of people willing to eat at the nearby International Buffet, but also for whom the Golden Corral in Downey is too far away to drive. It uniquely attempts to fill the cravings for both American food and Chinese buffet food. Located off the 60 Freeway on Wilcox, the restaurant occupies a spot where the Hometown Buffet used to be. If you're familiar with that place, then this new restaurant is undoubtedly an upgrade. This buffet is a facsimile of the Paradise Buffet in Montclair, in which the centerpiece of the buffet floor is a giant round Mongolian BBQ. Like the Montclair location, the dining area of the restaurant is huge and staffed with a majority of Hispanic staff and a minority of Chinese staff. Like a Las Vegas buffet, it's pay before you play. As the name implies, Paradise Buffet aspires to deliver the concept of heaven on Earth. It attempts to do so by presenting a ridiculous amount of items at multiple stations. Unfortunately, this is the Achilles' Heel of the restaurant, for it would seems that they have stretched themselves out too thin. Tonight was their much anticipated opening night as the locals had been eyeing this spot wondering when it would open. Disappointingly, there was anyone resembling an executive chef with formal training to be found. There was a floor manager floating from one station to the next, even taking on the overflow of orders from the inexperienced Mongolian BBQ operator. It's usually not a good sign if a manager has to do this. Perhaps they opened too soon? On the bright side, like the Hispanic staff at the Montclair location, the bussers who acted like servers were very hospitable. The Chinese staff left something to be desired. They hovered around the surveillance room which was open to all guests to see and blocked the hallway to the restrooms. There were staff lounging around and playing with their phones. I asked the sushi guy for some small dipping plates for sushi and he rudely brushed me off and told me just to get a regular plate. As for the food, let's just say that it's made for clientele who live on the south side of the 60 who don't know what good Chinese food tastes like on the north side of the 60. They had two kinds of fried rice and two kinds of fried noodles. Their rice stick noodles had no flavor and tasted like they were just steamed. There were four kinds of soup and they all tasted bland. If you've got so many Mexicans working there, make some decent menudo! Why have so much variety if you can't cook most of it the way it should taste: worthy of taking up space in your belly. To top it off, the soft-serve ice cream was the watery kind and not the creamy kind. They forgot to put the shaping nozzles on so the ice cream came out like turds. Paradise Buffet may be somewhat overpriced, but they do have a lot of overhead due to that giant space, lots of employees, and lots of items to make. It was hard for them to keep up and keep all the hot items fresh. Whoever manages the restaurant should take note of standard procedures at other buffets. The devil is in the details. Coming off the pandemic, there should be hand sanitizer readily available, at least at the front desk. When the hostess seats a party, she should be giving them the utensils. Our busser/server didn't even bring us any forks and we had to go looking for them. Overall, I still have to give this place credit for filling one of Montebello's mulititude of vacant storefronts. It wasn't a total wash. There are redeeming qualities in the restaurant. There were two self-serve beverage stations with Coke Zero and Sprite Zero and there was cotton candy for the kids. The things that I did like were German Chocolate cake, the salmon nigiri sushi, and the Chinese donuts mixed with their faux cheesecake.
