Love this place! Wasn't too busy on a Saturday night. Not sure why. I think our server was more like a hostess. She was very nice and outgoing, but something told me she may not be an experience waitress since I had to ask her if we could order our dinner after we got our appetizer. Forgivable. We had the Wild Boar Meatballs. You need to try these. If I was home in my own kitchen I might have licked the bowl. So good. I had the Flank Steak and my boyfriend the Chicken Wrapped Prosciutto. Parla was a fun stop. We wanted a good cocktail before deciding on a place for dinner. The place is fairly new and hipster trendy but we love a good prohibition style cocktail, so we went for it. The menu has some interesting items. I am an old fashioned kind of gal so of course I went with that. It was good. Not the best I've had, but good. Another cocktail at the table was a martini-esque drink with lots of alcohol. I apologize for not remembering the details but it didn't jump out at me. There was a beer ordered at our table as well that stood out as unique and delightful. It was almost as if it were chai tea infused. Very interesting and tasty. The food menu looked pretty inviting as someone who enjoys small plates and unique offerings. But again, this wasn't our dinner stop. Service was excellent. They were patient with our questions and indecision and it's always nice to watch a drink being carefully crafted. I am happy we chose to pop into Parla. No seasoning in the arancini, striped bass crudo or lobster ravioli. I probably won't go back just because the food was not impressive and so boring once y9u got past the great presentation. Food is good, service is good - this would be a 4-star review if dishes were slightly cheaper. But at $27 for a pasta, I expected REALLY GOOD, not just good. Really neat little place. The cocktail I ordered was really good. The food was just ok. My procuitto was the worst I've ever had. It wasn't tender and it tasted like ham lunch meat. The ribeye was a bad cut of meat. It was so gristly and almost impossible to cut with the dull steak knife they was given to me. Service was good and the atmosphere was really nice. Great new restaurant in the North End. it is small with great character, the menu is so great it has a page of 'rules'.... don't touch the staff, etc. Very funny!! The drinks were inventive and delicious, and the food was even better. Enjoyed a girls night out sampling several appeterizers, a pasta dish and all were wonderful. If I could give this place negative stars I would. We made a reservation for a Birthday at 10p on Saturday night before heading over to the Improv Asylum. Confirmation email sent - ready to go! (So we thought) We arrived to a confused, rude hostess telling us that their kitchen was closed and that the online reservation system "doesn't really work sometimes". She could have cared less! I ate here today--the service was terrible. It might actually be the worst I ever had. They forgot to bring an omelette, my friend's because there was a "mix-up" in the kitchen. They did not bring out her meal until 30 minutes later.... Does it take 30 minutes to make an omelette?... Also they did not give us the meal free of charge. They never checked in on any of us. We were waiting on maple syrup for French toast, water, ketchup and salt. We will not be back here again. I highly advise against dining at this restaurant- it is overpriced and AWFUL! read more

So this is strange. I just had the worse experience I have ever had in a restaurant. I normally come here and have a wonderful time. I have a service dog and this has never been a problem. I've met the owner in the past and he seemed like a wonderful person and the drinks were always spot on. I've been meaning to write a rave review for a while. They have a bar tender called Paul who has hit on me in the past and got rejected. Today he decided to refuse me service. He first said it was because of my service dog. I explained that this was in fact illegal. I spoke to the owner Khaled on the phone who was very polite and once he found out it was a service animal promised to resolve it. The bar tender continued to have a chip on his shoulder and now wanted to refuse me service because "I was rude". I wasn't and another staff member there backed me up that I wasn't in fact being rude. I called the police who spoke to the bar tender and the other server and they explained that they can't refuse me service. The other server decided that he will be the one to serve me. We got our drinks eventually but clearly we decided not to stay due to how charged the atmosphere became. I would recommend going to Parla but not on a Monday when Paul is there. He is a bigoted person who picked on me first because of my dog and then made up a story about my being rude. I know the real reason was pettiness because he hit on me in the past and got rejected (rejected extremely politely if I may add). I am appalled and want this as a warning to anyone else who might be fooled. Using my service dog as a way to pick on me (including refusing her water) is highly inappropriate and I think they should think twice before choosing that hill to die on. The owner should have also come to the restaurant sooner and figured out what was happening rather than leaving a staff member on his second day in training to sort out a senior staff members ambiguous feelings. The second staff member was really professional the entire time and he was the one who agreed to serve us while the bar tender pouted about the situation. I am appalled that this went as far as it did. It is such a pity one bar tender's bad day was given so much leeway by the owner. read more

I agree with an earlier reviewer: this place is trying just a bit too hard. I also appreciated the change of pace from the many other places in the North End, but it really didn't wow. The cocktails were terrific, but I was very disappointed to see they didn't have any special gin based drinks. They offered me a g&t with lemongrass infused gin. It was tasty, but I didn't order a second. The burrata was delicious but colder than I would have liked for a just-fried dish. The crudo was nothing special. It had vanilla oil which overpowered the fish, which was also very cold and not thinly sliced. For our entrees we had the carbonara and the monkfish risotto. The carbonara was actually saucy, which is not how a carbonara should be. The monkfish was very well cooked and good, but the risotto itself was rather bland. Overall, not a great meal and my husband and I were disappointed when we left. Made us wish we had just hit up one of the other many places right nearby. read more

The food was pretty good. The oxtail arancini was OK - I'm not sure why so many other people raved about it - there was very little meat in them - mostly fried ball and cheese. The steak and pastas were delicious though. Service was slow - it was a Wednesday night and we were there over two hours - it took more than 20 min to get our drink orders in. Our initial wait for the appetizer was long as well, and the entrees came out a little too long after that. Great ambiance at Parla, modern and fun, refreshing in the North End! Cute waitresses with good service! I ordered the Smoke and Mirrors, which was a little to liquor tasting for me. Their seasonal cider with mascarpone and the smoky beer was delish however. We started with the Oxtail rice balls (3) per order and Boar meatballs (2).. both were served with the same marinara sauce and yummy. We then had entrees.. the Lamb Fettuccine with mushrooms was a good size portion and a hearty meal. STEAK MARINADE COCKTAIL First time I went here it was great. Service and drinks were on point. Second time...couldn't be worse. Had about 45 minutes before the improv asylum show so figured we'd hop next door and get a quick drink. I ordered a cocktail off the menu my girlfriend ordered a dirty martini (one of the simplest drinks to make) although as you'll see, it might as well of been rocket science. The "dirty martini" arrived and from first sight not one feature resembled that of one. It looked cloudy white with a bunch of pulp in it and a Greek olive sitting at the bottom. Then the smell...it was an overwhelming stench of onions. I decided to take the tiniest sip of the worst cocktail ever made. The instant it touched my lips my mouth felt as though someone had poured a ton of oil and grease in it. I go up to the bar. I tell the bartender in a polite manner I do not know what this is and it is certainly not a dirty martini. He has a look of hipster arrogance on his face, takes a straw and tastes it, looks at me says "yes it is" (a dirty martini) and walks away. I laughed because I was a little caught off guard and still trying to grasp the concept that to him this was a dirty martini. I was up there for a solid 5 minutes telling him it is not one and the whole time his arrogance was permeating the room. I asked him what is even in that...he pointed to a jar and proudly stated as though he was a master bartender, "o its our marinade!"....marinade, this man put marinade in a glass along with gin and served it to a customer. He had the nerve to stand there and tell me that with his stupid smile on his face. Staying calm I asked why would you ever serve that to anyone, he said that they don't have the ingredients for a dirty martini. Really no shit dumbass, then why when the waitress who took our order told you, you would relay that to her and we wouldn't of been drinking steak marinade. Without going much further because there is a lot more stupidity to express, I got a new, drink for my girlfriend. The waitress comes over..no drink in hand and asks me if I want another....NO! my girlfriend needs a drink because the bartender tried to serve her steak marinade. She says "o yea that whole thing, we actually don't have the ingredients for that". Without burning the place down I said to her "now wouldn't that of behooved you to tell us that when she originally ordered it"...obviously Im getting a blank stare because no ones home upstairs. I then ask "has anyone ever ordered this before and drank it" she answers "No! I dont know why anyone would!".... Needless to say, the incompetent, brainless waitress and the arrogant dumbass bartender received $0 from me that day. ______________________________________________________ (See Parla post below) Thank you for your patronizing words. Was super shocked to see that there was only one server/bartender for the entire restaurant on a busy Sunday night. Of course he did not write down our drinks or food order and had to come back to ask about it all. Arincini were delicious. Meatballs were mediocre and the pork belly crisps were far too dry. Cocktails were great but due to only one employee, way too slow of an experience. Recommend simply grabbing a drink here but don't waste your time with food. read more
