Majestic Oak features Rhône varietals such as Syrah, Grenache and a lesser known Cinsault. We are members of their wine club because of the quality of their wines and the value. The rich reds that we selected were sourced from local Ojai vineyards as well as the best of the Santa Barbara County growing regions. They also offer beautiful white wine varieties that call for a summer picnic or garden party. We loved the Bruce's Rose that celebrates their mascot, Bruce. The cave-like ceilings, warm lighting, and comfortably spaced tables made it easy to settle in, enjoy our lunch, and catch up without feeling cramped or rushed. If you enjoy trying different wines, it's easy to lose track of time here. We started with a cheese plate, which turned out to be much more generous than I expected. It came with a nice assortment of cheeses, crisp apple slices, grapes, candied walnuts, crostini, and a savory relish on the side. It was a great dish to share with our wine. My friend ordered the tuna poke tower, and we shared the cheese flatbread and sweet potato fries. I went with the Original Cave Salad with salmon, which came with a generous piece of perfectly cooked salmon over fresh greens, apples, grapes, walnuts, and blue cheese. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous enough that we left completely satisfied. One thing I appreciated was that we never felt rushed. Lunch naturally turned into an afternoon of catching up, comparing notes on the different wines, and deciding which pours we wanted to try next. Before we left, we wandered through the wine shop one more time. If you discover a favorite during lunch, you can pick up a bottle before heading home, which is a nice touch. We were there a bit early so we needed to wait 15 or so minutes for it to open per the time listed here on Yelp. We hung out on the sidewalk counting the seconds until noon, only to be disappointed as we walked by and saw a sign in the door that said 1pm. We continued on our way and went to another local bar only to return hours later via car because I had had my exercise for the day. We got lucky in finding a parking spot because this is a small area, so cross your fingers. We found 2 seats at the bar and marvelled at the selection of microbrews. For a Saturday afternoon, the place slowly filled up with locals as everyone watched the basketball finals on the tvs. Bartender was very welcoming as were the locals we chatted with. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but did find something to drink. My partner was in heaven sampling and trying new brews. Would love to return later in the evening to see how this place fills up and to enjoy more of the locals and what it would be like living in this hidden community. So shhhh! Herzog provided everything we needed including breakfast, glassware and amazing lunch options. Not to mention adjustments when the weather shifted. A great layout. Best restroom facilities and information about their amazing winery and its history. I've been part of the Wine & Spirits industry since 2012 on an off and more recently back on + Herzog is one of the best and oldest kosher wineries in the world. Joseph Herzog is an amazing man and the VP of HWC, I met him a few times in the past but it's been YEARS. I didn't get a chance to speak with him directly, but he thanked us for coming out and along with the rest of the Herzon team/family was nothing but welcoming and thoughtful. One of my favorite draws about Herzog overall is that's is 100% vegan friendly as well as kosher, making it suitable for so many people. And Tierra Sur is very vegan friendly - some dishes are vegetarian. Do let they know about allergies and restrictions and they'll do their absolute best to accommodate. Their Alexander Valley wines are some of my favorites for sure.

I mentioned the birthday when making the reservation, and my brother even brought flowers to the restaurant for me. There was absolutely no question that this was a special celebration. Unfortunately, the entire experience felt careless and poorly managed. Our server took away our wine glasses and left us with only water glasses. We waited for quite a while, and eventually had to ask for wine glasses just so we could use the self-service wine machines -- which are one of the main features that attract people to this restaurant in the first place. It was frustrating to have to ask for something as basic as a wine glass in a restaurant built around a wine experience. The service throughout the meal was consistently inattentive. Utensils were brought late multiple times, and after our dishes were changed, we had to sit and wait for utensils before we could even start eating. My daughter's pasta order was also brought incorrectly. But what made the experience particularly disappointing was how completely ignored our special occasion was. Despite the birthday being noted in the reservation and the obvious presence of birthday flowers, there was not even a simple "Happy Birthday" from the restaurant. We were not expecting anything extravagant -- just a basic acknowledgment that would have shown some attention and hospitality. Then came the final unpleasant surprise: we were charged an additional large-party fee. Our group was 4 adults and 2 children -- 6 people total. We have dined at many restaurants with a group of this size and have never been charged an additional fee like this without it being clearly communicated and justified. Considering the level of service we received, seeing an unexpected extra charge on the bill was especially disappointing. What should have been a memorable birthday dinner instead felt like an afterthought. The issue was not one small mistake. Mistakes happen. The problem was the combination of poor service, lack of attention, incorrect food, the complete lack of acknowledgment of a birthday that was clearly communicated in advance, and finally an unexpected additional charge. For a restaurant that presents itself as an experience rather than simply a place to eat, I expected much more professionalism and hospitality. Unfortunately, this is not a place I would choose again for a special occasion, and based on this experience, I would have a hard time recommending it to others.
