My friends and i stumbled upon this place, the outside was cute. We entered and the place is very clean and the people there were very friendly and welcoming. We all have seafood allergy and they were very accommodating. Two of us for the vermicelli with grilled beef and pork & veggie spring roll, and one with rice and beef. These three entrees were so yummy and flavorful, and very filling. The prices were reasonable. They also offer great alcohol beverages as well, i loved the espresso martini. The broth was super clean and I loved the texture of the beef balls as I am very picky because sometimes other restaurants have beef balls with those weird gelatin pieces inside. A little sweeter than other places. Just rolls, no lettuce wraps. Coffee -- decent Pho -- broth was a little light and lacked depth but still good flavor. All meats were solid. Really expensive for House Special Fried Rice when they include tax. When you pay with cash, it comes out to $17.50 and you need to pay 3% more with credit card which is quite expensive. Even though it is $$$, the taste and quality of fried rice is superb and very tasty! I never tasted such quality before from any places. This by far is the best tasty fried rice I've ever tried. It is wok fried with shrimp, sausage, chicken, eggs, scallions, peas, and carrots. The rice is made well and not too soggy, soft or overly cooked and dried. Sausages are good too which is my favorite ingredient in the rice. The place has nice panel windows too when you arrive that makes it welcoming and nice. The menu looks cute with pictures. Ambience is nice and not too loud. There is no music playing and just people talking. Somewhat quiet and dotted along with many Vietnamese places so you know there is competition. It was also very affordable but I think this place is a little more pricy than other Vietnamese restaurants in the neighborhood. The grilled pork chops were tender and had a film of succulent fat on the rim. One bite and it melted in my mouth and my heart. Today I was in Chinatown and decided to have lunch here. Opened thirty years ago, Pasteur is located on Baxter Street where some other Vietnamese restaurants offer a similar cuisine. I ordered a plate of the pork chops with rice and pickles ($13). A tiny ramekin of clear orange vinegar with what resembled ginger was served first. Then came the plate with the food. The rice was ample and tiny serrated cut cucumbers, carrots and white radish came with it. I was quite stuffed after I had finished eating. Service was efficient. Even though several customers were eating one wasn't hurried out. The interior is fairly small and has a gender neutral small restroom. read more

Surprising highlight of our meal was the grilled eggplant, it was roasted perfectly. Soft on the inside, steaming hot with a deliciously salty sauce and covered in peanuts and chives. Service was extremely quick, our noodles were out in 5 minutes. The restaurant area itself is quite small, just 8 tables or so, but they turn over fairly rapidly. Best restaurant in Chinatown hands down. I've been coming to this gem since 2014 and their food has been consistent and delicious for those 8 years. I cannot recall another restaurant that have done that. It's a family owned/operated place and you can tell the love everyone put into their work here. Easily the best vermicelli I have ever eaten in my life. The sesame chicken is also very good, the spring rolls, the summer rolls, their peanut sauce, basically everything I've tried is simply delicious. There's nothing I haven't liked. I love that you can still have a delicious and generous meal without breaking the bank in this place. I do miss their lunch specials though, but I guess with the inflation they were not able to keep them unfortunately. But don't you worry because prices range from $12 to $20. They recently redesigned their website and menu and I can see this place staying in business for another 20+ years because it gets better and better every time I come. This spot is great for an easy Vietnamese dinner in Chinatown. They've got a cute interior as well as outdoor patio space, and no reservations needed on a weekend night. Great for a date! I ordered the grilled pork bun ($12)--the meat was well marinated and very tasty. I would've liked more daikon radish though; they tend to slice them pretty large here. Veggies were fresh and the fish sauce was good as well. Because it was kind of a chilly night when I went, I also ordered a cup of the pho broth for $3. I love that they have this option. Quick service. Ambience is minimal but at least it's relatively new. Dark wood and mirrors. One flaw is the lack of a double door. With such a small space they weren't able to have any kind of buffer by the door (double doors or even just space) so a lot of the restaurant will be exposed to cold air whenever someone goes in or out. Small issues at the end of the day but noticeable. On to the food. Since this place was preferred by my Viet friends I decided to come back as it's been while. Pho was good, broth is nice and flavorful without being too salty. Also, since I'm a degenerate carnivore I had to order the extra meat. And I must say, this was one of the only times I regretted extra meat. The serving came on a separate plate and was a good portion of raw slices of beef. However, the broth had to heat up the noodles and the regular meat and goodies so it was barely able to heat up the extra meat. My fault I guess but if you order extra meat please be sure to have them put it in the bowl. I couldn't even risk taking a picture because I wanted to get the meat in the bowl as quickly as possible. Ummmmmm everything was SWEET. Very odd. The broth was sweet. The calamari was not crispy and also sweet. felt like the calamari/squid was sugar coated. So I came here yesterday because the person I'm dating begrudgingly had to serve his duty to his community at court. Not surprisingly they decided to forgo selecting him as a juror. Spring rolls are cut up into small chunks with the accompanying sweet sauce, lettuce wraps, and mint. Boiling hot but really delicious. The pho which I only had half of my entree and saved the rest for the rest of the week was pretty flavorful. Added in the bean sprouts and what I think is fresh lemongrass on the side. Whatever it is it tasted great. The beef was thin but huge pieces and quite plentiful in the dish. The broth was nice. I added a little bit of hot sauce and hoisin into it for fun. The noodles nice and glassy. I can't really find anything to complain about. All fairly affordable. For like six chunks of spring roll - $10 and the pho was about $11 or 12. The only hiccup probably was service toward the ending. They were pretty busy and have only maybe two servers and getting the check and food wrapped up took a minute.
