This place must get more business than it should merely because it's right next door to Neptune Oyster. But the other day I trekked straight to Neptune Oyster at 2 pm and was told it was a 3.5-4 hour wait which is just ridiculous. Unfortunately I didn't have time to wait so we popped into Pauli's for a quick lobster roll. I know lobster rolls are expensive but for fries and a lobster roll, it set us back $24 including tax. For the quality and size of the lobster roll I didn't really think it was worth it. I'd gladly pay $24 for the lobster roll at Neptune Oyster but don't think I'd come back to Pauli's for just the lobster rolls. You can get it cold or hot, with fries or chips (extra charge for the fries). We got the hot lobster roll and the bun was drenched in butter. I like butter just fine but it was a little too much butter that it made the bread soggy. Sometimes less is more. The lobster was pretty good and seemed fresh but it kept getting overpowered by all the butter. The length of the lobster roll was a little smaller than I would have expected for the price. There was a generous amount of fries and they were delicious and fresh so plus points for the fries. They were lightly battered so it had a tiny bit of texture on the outside. I loved them and would definitely get fries here again. Decent for a lobster roll and much faster than waiting for hours next door, but the quality and taste don't compare to its neighbor. It's fine if you're in a hurry and want to satisfy a craving but I wouldn't come out of my way to come eat here. I'm still searching for my second best option for lobster rolls after Neptune Oyster. They also have a lot of other options, wraps, sandwiches, lobster grilled cheese sandwiches, etc so the menu is quite extensive. Not a bad a place to eat but nothing to go out of my way for in my book. read more

Mediocre lobster rolls at best. Tried both hot and cold. The amount of lobster they give is generous but the meat was very tough and smelled/tasted fishy (which shouldn't happen with fresh lobster). Wondered if this was the end of the weeks shipment? Served in a covered plastic container - gave it a vending machine vibe. Maybe I hit them at an off time. Pauli's is not only one if my favorite sandwich places in Boston, it's one of my favorite lunch places period. It's a favorite of folks who live and work anywhere near it. FOOD: They specialize in sandwiches, and that's what you should get there. My personal favorite: The Killer Bee. A huge portion of fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and smothered in honey mustard. If you prefer ranch dressing, try the Mama Lucca: It's the same as the Killer Bee but with ranch instead of honey mustard. If you want the tang of the honey mustard in the Killer Bee, but want something sweeter, then try the Jamaican Me Crazy: a close relative to the Killer Bee, which swaps out the honey mustard with a tangy BBQ sauce. I've had all three many times, and have never felt lunch-regret about any of them. You can choose what kind of bread you want, but you should always go with the classic braided roll. If you want something lighter, try the California Wrap. PORTIONS: These sandwiches look about average size, but there is a *ton* of meat inside. I usually get around three-four pieces of fried chicken in my Killer Bee, which is a lunch portion by itself, not including the bread and the toppings. You will not leave this place hungry. These are far closer to dinner portions than they are to lunch portions. PRICE: Hovering around $8 for lunch, this is a cheap-to-average lunch for Boston. However when he checked the credit card statement he was still charged $10. He called to ask why, and the manager stated "well you probably had some of the wings and you ordered a soda and cookie." I am absolutely beside myself by this terrible customer service. Grew up in Boston but missed this gem! I was watching Guy's show DDD and saw the bit on Pauli's so I added it to my Boston visit bucket list. Did not disappoint! Service was incredibly friendly, Nicole actually walked me to a nearby coffee shop instead of just pointing. Now that's unheard of hospitality and customer service! The shop was cute and clean and the lobster roll was awesome, fresh and pretty naked, mayo and a bun but that's all you really need with good lobster. I wish I had more days, money and another stomach, I would go back for more. Starving and not wanting to wait 2 hours for the Neptune oyster, we came to visit Pauli's right next door for some awesome lobster rolls. Food: We ordered a lobster grilled cheese with cheese fries and a warm lobster roll. It was my first time trying a lobster grilled cheese, and it was amazing! The fries were also nice and crisp, and even better adding the cheese. I was surprisingly not as impressed with the lobster roll, but I feel like that might also be bc I'm usually used to ordering the cold lobster roll, but we actually got the hot one with butter this time around. As most reviews I have to agree that the roll was delicious, however, I was a little disappointed with the place. It is quite small and has a fast pace feel, which wouldn't have been a problem if I wasn't looking to sit in for a while. The lobster roll is served with UTZ chips, which is another thing that I wasn't expecting. I would pair the lobster with something better. We had a pretty decent meal at Pauli's. I had the turkey club and fries and my boyfriend had a lobster roll with chips. Pauli's is a tiny place churning out lots of food VERY quickly. I was really impressed with the sheer amount of people and food they served in the time I was eating there. Not lots of seats, but we got lucky and managed to find a corner to sit in and people watch as we wolfed down our lunch. I liked the fries the best. The portion was pretty darn good for three dollars. They were hot, crispy, and not too oily. You get like half a bag for three dollars. Yay! My club was good. The bacon was nice and crispy and the turkey wasn't at all slimy. The bread was at times a little overwhelming, and I personally would have liked a little more ranch. Pretty good, though, and a HUGE sandwich. I was stuffed all afternoon. My boyfriend had mixed feelings about the lobster roll. It was pretty darn expensive, but I'm not from lobster country so I'm not sure what an appropriate price would be. He said that his problems with it were probably less the roll being bad and him just being unused to eating lobster in such a fashion (he found the texture a little gummy). The hot butter lobster roll was delicious and filled with a good amount of lobster. The hot butter is really rich and seeps into the lobster meat well. The bun is just all right; maybe not as good as the buttery toast used at Luke's Lobster. Nonetheless, Pauli's lobster rolls are definitely a worthwhile purchase.
