Small little strip mall restaurant easy to miss. We arrived. Just before 5 on a Friday and after we sat down it became crowded. Excellent timing. Very wide variety of seafood mostly fried but they have grilled options. Senior citizens special of prawns or fish dinner was large portion. The servers were extremely attentive, helpful and prompt. Was working at a job across the street and stopped in for a quick lunch. However, it was not very quick. Service is pretty slow. There's only one waitress that I saw. It took a long time to put in my order and then food was slow. I ordered a 2 piece Alaskan cod fish and chips meal. And I was only able to inhale one piece of fish and some fries before I had to get back to work. I had an hour lunch too. Ugh. Took my food to go, paid quickly and left. Food was fresh from the fryer and hot. And fish was flaky and delicious. Just wish I had the time to enjoy it all. read more

Dropped in today for what I had hoped to be a quick lunch. From the outside, I imagined that this place would be casual dining - where you order at the counter, pay and then wait for your food. It turns out that it has waiter service. It is still quite casual with no tablecloths and cute, ocean decor. When I checked out the menu and thought the prices were a bit steep. I was hoping the fish would be fresh and worth it. I asked about the crab cake sandwich and was told they don't make the cakes in-house, so I decided to try the traditional fish and chips. I got Icelandic Cod (they also had Alaskan Cod for $1 more). Two, 3-oz pieces with a side of fries for $7.99. They also had options where you could get 3 or 4 pieces of fish and/or add shrimp, clams, scallops, etc. It took a while for them to take my order and then again for my food to arrive. I thought service was on the slow side. However, my server was friendly and helpful when I asked questions about the food. The fish was really good. It seemed fresh, had nice texture and was not too greasy. The pieces were kinda small and there were a ton of fries to make up for it. The tartar sauce was on the boring side, as was the cocktail sauce. I spiced it up with some lemon and malt vinegar, which were both brought to me without me having to ask (snaps for that). Overall, I liked it but was not floored. Add in the price and the slow service and I was on the fence about my rating - a 3 or a 4. If I could give 3 1/2 stars, I would. I think this place is worth another try. I will go back and try the chowder (people seem to really like that from the reviews) and maybe a different fish entree and update my review afterwards. read more

Ok, I was an avid fisherwoman with a commercial vessel on the coast of Mendocino. The Alasken Cod fish and chips were a perfect fix and not a bite was off in flavor! Yes folks, when you have fish, you do NOT want a fishy flavor! Fish should be thrown out in 3 days just like house guests! The waiter was super cool and told me they grill it too. Walked into this place with expectations at the absolute bottom of my range. Ordered the hoagie and prawn tacos, also a side scallop. Do yourself a favor get the side scallop, 1.99 for 2 deep-fried ocean marshmallows. The hoagie was double cheeked up with tarter sauce fried halibut and the rest of the fixins'. Fries were sufficiently fried. Prawn tacos, double the tortillas, double the prawns, and double the dipping sauces. Side slaw had extra drip (in a good way). Only grievance was pictures all hung crooked :/. For that -1 star. Walked out with my expectations blown out of the water. I would eat deep-fried pelican goodness any day of the week. read more

This is one of the VERY few decent places to eat in Paradise. My sister drug me here last time I was home visiting. Now I'm really spoiled in that I live in Monterey so I was less than excited about eating seafood nowhere near the ocean.... I had clam chowder and calamari. The clam chowder was EXCELLENT and the calarmari appetizer was HUGE! Very impressed with our meal and all came out to $30ish... Not bad for a big lunch! We even took some home. Yoooooo best clam chowder I've had since Fisherman's Warf! 10/10 would recommend. Bread bowls were hot fresh and thicc, just the way we like em. Also got the Alaskan Cod with fries, coleslaw & their homemade tarter sauce... Phenomenal is really all I have to say. Good crunch on the batter with light flakey fish inside, fries were piping hot and crunchy. If you're not into that kinda meal then hop outta that line playa, more for me. Service was a taaaad slow but the quality of the food makes up for it easily. Tbh I ordered one sushi roll from Big Tuna the other day that took them 30 min to make & everything in it was raw so I was confused to say the least. If we're going to judge a restaurant off of cooking times I'm gonna say Pelican is doing juuust fine. I'm sure they have half of Chico calling in orders to go so I get it. Fried fish and chips is tasty. Chowder is terrible, I would pass on that. Several beers on draft and they have a good lunch special. 1 piece of fish is huge and plenty. Service was slow and no one checked back after delivery of food, I would have liked to have a lemon to put on my fish. read more

So sad that I can't afford to come here anymore. The prices on all of their meals have gone up 4 bucks since March. A 4 piece fried cod meal with a potato and cole slaw is now $20. A bowl Of chowder is $8. I get it but that is extreme. read more

This is based on limited experience, since we both had mostly the same dinner - the basic fish and chips. Fish was excellent, fries were OK and cole slaw was pretty good. Space is comfortable, the staff was pleasant, price was fair. My wife also had the clam chowder, which was quite good, if a little skimpy on the clam - but good flavor and texture. I visited this nice establishment for some take out so my review is soley based on the quality of the food in contrast to price. (Though the female server tonight was verrry pleasant and friendly) FANTASTIC!! I ordered for my family of 4 and fed them all for less than $50. (Noted 2 of my family members are 90+ years young lol) We ate the Tilapia dinner with cole slaw, steamed veggies, a cup of clam chowder and a half loaf of sour dough bread. The bread sorodough and clam chowder was a great beginning to the meal. I definitely appreciated the quality and texture of the chowder. This place is pretty good. The shrimp louie salad is really large, and I could not eat anything else. I went back another day for just the fish and chips, and I ma glad I did. They offer two kinds of cod, and I got the Icelandic cod. It is a stronger, darker fish and has real good fish flavor without being fishy. The chips are the traditional shoestring fries (i prefer steak cut) and there was a adequate amount without being overwhelming. The service was prompt and attentive without being annoying. The food is good. I love the calamari tacos & the shrimp tacos. My family enjoys the Alaskan Cod with fries. The burgers are pretty good too. Last time I had the clam chowder it was delish. In the 10 + years we have been going here, the whole place could use a deep clean and maintenance. The dust that has been accumulating on the fixtures is starting to show. The bathroom, the women's bathroom had no seat on the toilet. Just the broken plastic left after someone took off the seat. The food is pretty good especially when you are in the mood for deep fried yum. But the cleanliness of the places is making it harder for me to want to return. read more

I went in tonight with my family and most ordered fish and chips. While I ordered the shrimp Alfredo. The servings are HUGE. I didn't even make a dent in my pasta but I love how much shrimp there is. I tried my cousins fish and it was nicely battered, very light with a nice crunch. The main reason I wanted to write this review though is for our server Emilee. She was so sweet and took time to explaain the dishes to me. She also brought me lemons and two types of Parmesan for my pasta. I've worked in restaurants and food myself, and meeting someone so nice is rare to me. She definitely made our dining experience more pleasant. Great service :) read more

Have gone here multiple times this past month - shrimp and chips are always good,...after waiting a long time to get them. Service is consistently horrible. You feel like the wait staff is doing you a favor serving you. One of the waitress even argued with a table about their order and how it wasn't her fault - so unprofessional ! Takes forever to be seated, even when there's half the seats open. One time we waited almost an hour when tables were open!! The waitresses never refill your drinks, which completely sucks, and they never check on you, so even if you wanted to ask for a refill you couldn't. Multiple occasions we've came in for chowder and there was no chowder, isn't this a chowder house? Aside from that, the cooks do a good job, food is always yummy. But the waitresses need to pick it up and learn how to refill a cup. I never go there anymore due to wait times and refills and lack of being checked on. Bad service. Good food. read more

Such a great hole in the wall restaurant. I was born and raised in the bay area so I know good fish & chips. This place is the best place in Chico to get fish&chips. The "chips" we golden brown and crispy. The fish was crispy, crunchy and delicious. The tartar sauce was yummy. The server was very nice and had a great attitude. We will be back again!!!
