The front desk staff were super nice and welcoming. They were able to give us pricing, availability and also an estimate on how long it would take to have the work done on the vehicle. We were also greeted by the store manager Moe. He was very knowledgeable and polite. We decided to proceed with the services and so we left the car and then sometime later we got a notification that our car was ready to be picked up. I came in for a tire repair (under warranty). I purchased all 4 tires from Pep Boys June 2025. They quoted me 3-4 hours to complete a simple tire repair! They did not repair all the leaks. The tire was STILL leaking air. I took it to Firestone. I saw the tire. The repair was totally botched. Additionally, Firestone told me that the Pep Boys technician put the tire on backward. Battery replacement done wrong - missing hold-down plate for 5.5 years I went to Pep Boys on Stevens Creek for a battery replacement a few years ago. I recently found out that the metal battery hold-down plate was never reinstalled, and the bolt was just screwed back into place. My car was unsafe for over 5 years because of this. The technician who replaced the battery would have had to remove the plate to take the old battery out, so they knew it was missing. They never told me. They left my battery unsecured, which could have caused a short circuit or fire. I had to find out the hard way when a different mechanic pointed out the missing part. Pep Boys should have told me about this serious safety issue. I cannot trust their work and won't go back. IF YOU DO GET YOUR BATTERY REPLACED, MAKE SURE YOU EDUCATE YOURSELF ON HOW THE BATTERY IS SECURED IN PLACE AFTER THE INSTALL (EITHER A HOLD DOWN PLATE OR BELT). CHECK IT YOURSELF AFTER THE INSTALL. Wow. It's hard to believe a store like this could be allowed to stay open. After scheduling an appointment for an oil change and tire change, we arrived at our scheduled time and were told they were busy so we would have to come back around 5 or 6pm. That was fine but when we showed up 6:45pm, just before closing, our vehicle wasn't even ready! We had to wait an additional hour and a half after closing! Not only that, we were told they weren't even able to FINISH the oil change and told us to come back tomorrow and PROMISED to finish everything up free of charge. So, we give them the benefit of the doubt. We show up the next day, lo and behold they were "understaffed" and couldn't get finish the oil filter change. They rescheduled again for the next day and finally got it done. Almost 3+ days of waiting for what could've been done in a few hours. I'm not an expert in car maintenance, but I'm sure that the "mechanics" here probably don't really know what they're doing either. But also even just basic customer service skills. Why promise something when you clearly can't deliver? Honestly, do yourself a favor. Find a small local mechanic shop and support a small business instead of the failing, obsolete company known as Pep Boys. I would strongly advise anyone thinking of bringing their vehicle here DONT especially if you are LGBT, but if you need to be sure to get EVERYTHING in writing and make sure you clearly understand what you are authorizing before leaving your car. I brought my GMC Terrain in for a passenger window issue. After waiting approximately five hours, I was told the window needed a new motor and regulator. The quoted repair cost was just under $700 including parts and labor. At first, when they called me to update me on inspection and cost I said I'd need to get it done but was told I would need to leave my car overnight, I couldn't leave my vehicle because I needed to drive home I live 2 hours away. I was told they would reassemble the door, order the parts, and I would receive a text message to authorize the repair before any work moved forward. I called back because I wanted to see if I could purchase the parts myself and have the work done elsewhere. After sitting on hold for about 10 minutes, I decided to get a ride to the shop so I could communicate in person that I didn't want to do it via pepboys. I informed the front desk employee that I would not be proceeding with the repair and would be purchasing the parts myself. She told me she would mark the repair as declined and that they would put everything back together to sit and wait. I sat in the waiting area for approximately 45 minutes before being told by her that because I had initially indicated I wanted the repair completed, the technicians had already disassembled everything and I would now have to pay additional labor to have the vehicle reassembled. This made absolutely no sense to me. I was already paying approximately $100 for the inspection. In my mind, diagnosing a window regulator issue requires disassembly and reassembly as part of the inspection process. I asked them to show me where I had signed or authorized any additional labor charges beyond the inspection. I also asked where I had approved further work, especially considering I never received the authorization text I was told I would get and came in to reject repair post inspection. Instead of addressing those concerns, the conversation quickly shifted away from the actual issue and became about my "lack of respect" toward the front desk employee. The reality is that she initially told me she would mark the repair as declined, but based on everything that happened afterward, it appeared that information was either never communicated or never acted upon. Rather than acknowledging a breakdown in communication, I was made to feel like the problem was somehow my fault. To make matters worse, I was ultimately told not to come back. Trust me, that won't be a problem. Mistakes happen. What matters is how a business handles them. Instead of owning what appeared to be an internal communication failure, this shop chose to argue with a customer, attempt to charge additional labor that was never clearly authorized, and then shift the blame when questioned. If you choose to do business here, keep copies of everything, insist on written authorizations, and do not rely on verbal assurances alone. Oh my this place has stepped up it's game in the past few years. After finding out about the joint from CarAdvise, I am very impressed. Got a good price for oil changes. Shout out to my server Tony for the A++ job done in getting my oil change ready. He did a good job of making sure my mum's car get's into a fixing stall. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from but I had a great time. Another shoutout to the the manager Alfredo, did a very good job of keeping the place in order. Never have I ever seen great service from a Pep Boys. I will come here again for all my oil changes. This is a huge red flag--the people booking your appointments have zero connection to the actual shop floor. No Respect for Time: Despite my "appointment," I was told they might be able to start the diagnosis by 3:00 PM. Why even offer 11:00 AM slots if you're 4 hours behind? Zero Price Transparency: I asked for a simple quote for the three levels of service (Basic, Plus, Premium) they advertise. I am writing to express my frustration regarding my recent service appointment. I scheduled an appointment for 10:30 AM to have four new tires installed on my vehicle. THIS PLACE IS AN ABSOLUTE SCAM! CON ARTISTS. STAY FAR FROM HERE. We brought in my sister Audi for tires. We received a call from them while they were changing out tires, and said the brake pads were full worn and quoted "metal to metal" meaning there was nothing left, and it's actually unsafe. They also said we need to replace rotors. He quoted us $800. We were shocked by this as the car had been at a mechanic recently. We declined service. We took the next morning off work to drive to a mechanic for a second option, and he said there is 80% of the pad left on the brakes, they were totally fine and needed no replacement. When I called the store to discuss this absolute scam they tried to pull, the manager had the nerve to tell me they mixed up two work orders, and it was another Audi in the shop who needed the brake pads and rotors and it wasn't on our work order. I looked at our invoice, and notes and it was in fact written on our paperwork! I can't believe a company with a big name like this could be such crooks. I will be reaching out to the corporate office and also reporting this business to the BBB. read more

DON'T BRING YOUR CAR HERE. I had my rotors and brake pads replaced in April 2025 and have returned four times for the same reoccurring issues: squealing, shuddering, and braking inconsistency. Despite replacing parts, the issues always return. This time it was not just annoying - it was dangerous. On my third return (12/29/25), the wrong rotors were installed during the service and I had to wait until closing for the correct parts to be installed. I appreciated the correction -- but during service they failed to provide an inspection report, which they normally do. Huge red flag. I think the techs were rushing to finish because after I left, something felt wrong with the brakes. It sounded and felt like something was loose or falling off. There were also sounds of misaligned brake pads when braking but no vibration in the wheel. I was towed back on 12/30/25 (Pep Boys paid- another red flag). The manager Alfredo admitted to me that something was loose -- and literally made the sign of the cross, physically acknowledging how serious and dangerous it could have been, especially at highway speeds in rainy conditions. He was kind, communicative and prioritized my vehicle. He made the repairs and sent me on my way - still with no inspection report and no documentation showing what was repaired or replaced. The brakes felt good after that, but it needs to be documented that you repaired a safety issue from work done at your shop. When I returned on 12/31/25 to request the service log and both inspection reports (required under BAR regulations and CA consumer law), the manager, Alfredo Lopez became defensive and aggressive. He then created inaccurate inspection reports and paperwork for the services provided two days and one day prior, attempting to shift blame away from the work done. He even claimed they never touched the affected wheel -- despite the fact that rotor work requires wheel removal. This shop demonstrates a pattern of unsafe work, missing documentation, and dishonesty and aggression when asked for industry required documentation. Don't gamble with your car -- or your life. I left the review and as you can see, someone responded asking me to provide my contact information because they wanted to make this right. i did reply and provide my contact info via email and they responded that a case was created and someone from field leadership would reach out to me. No one reached out. I emailed them several weeks after the fact explaining that no one reached out. They replied stating that the case would be escalated and someone would reach out. Here we are in May and still, no one reached out. I've come to believe that the responses to the reviews and their emails are AI monitored and generated. I brought my car to Pep Boys for a tire change on 6-12-26. The next day, I discovered my wheels was carved in with significant damage. This damage was not present before the service and clearly occurred during the tire removal process. One wheel showing the incorrect mounting process. Other wheels has damaged covered using marker. When I contacted the manager, they first claimed over the phone that the car was like this. But after showing the damage and how fresh the damage was, then he said he needed to go speak with the technician. I received no update from him regarding that. Raised my concern to coporate and filed a case the following day and still havent heard from anyboda. On top of that, one of my tires was losing tire pressure and the other three tires were overfilled by about 15psi. I'm disappointed that such damage occurred during a routine service, and the lack of accountability is concerning. I would expect Pep Boys to take responsibility and compensate for rim damage caused by their technicians. I cannot recommend this location until they address their service quality and damage liability procedures. read more

Wiper blade flew off on the freeway. They wouldn't sell us a blade or allow us to have the shop install one. Ridiculous

I made a morning appointment to get my battery checked and clarified I needed to be out by 4 pm, I was assured that was perfectly fine and a battery should not take too long. However, then I was told there would be a 3-4 hour wait, which was disappointing but fine. They told me they would call me in two hours to update me if they would be able to service my car that day or not, however after 3 hours I had not heard anything. I called them and they told me they had not looked and to wait for further updates. The online portal said they had not yet looked at my car throughout this full day. 5.5 hours later I got an automated message saying my car was ready. I went back and they had not actually serviced my car - just the diagnostic was ready. At that point it was 3:45 and I left without them actually servicing my car in any way. They changed my oil (despite me not asking them to and it had only been 1,000 miles since my last change) so I paid for that and left. The front desk personnel were not kind nor welcoming, and at one point told me "just because you have a morning appointment does not mean we can look at it same day." I wish I had checked reviews before making this appointment. read more

TLDR: Long service time with unreliable wait time estimates. They will cancel your appointment if it's late afternoon and they can't handle volume. Avoid Sundays. Prices are reasonable. I made an appointment for noon on a Sunday and arrived a few minutes early. Getting checked in was quick and easy. My problem was a broken TPMS system. I wanted to check out which sensors needed replacing and a cost and time estimate. They gave me a 2-hour estimate for when they'd get me those answers via a phone call. At 1:10 I received a digital copy of my vehicle inspection report, but no call. At 1:30 I called and asked for an update. The assistant manager answered and told me my TPMS was broken, so he obviously didn't read the intake report, and he had to clarify with the tech about which sensors needed replacing. I finally got a quote of $82 per sensor (4 total) and gave the go-ahead. They gave me a time estimate of 1-1.5 hours. I returned to pep boys at 2:30 and was told it would be 30 minutes, which is right on time. At 3:20 it still wasn't done and I inquired again. The manager went to the mechanic who had left my car up on the lift and didn't finish it before moving on to another car. He told the mechanic to finish my car right now. I heard the mechanic say "can't they wait another 5-10 minutes before I go back on that car?" which doesn't bode well for their customer service priorities. The assistant manager then told me it would be another 30 minutes. The car was ready at 4 and checking out was a bit of a mess as far as communication between staff - one computer was in use that was needed for closing out my car and they misplaced my car keys for a moment, etc. I did receive a discount for my time, so I paid for 3 sensors instead of 4. My total time there was 4 hours. I wish they had been honest upfront about the timing because I wouldn't have waited around. I would've gone home and picked up my car later. I overheard a customer come in at 3:26 for a 3:30 appointment and the assistant manager declined him. He said that they called everyone with appointments for the rest of the day and cancelled them because they're full (they're understaffed and don't prioritize well, as I previously described) and that Sundays are their worst days. This customer was obviously bummed and very nice about it, schedule an appointment for the next day instead. Make sure you book for earlier times to avoid this!! Also avoid Sundays! read more

Huge ripoff. Not only was the amount due $400 higher than what they said it would be, but my problem isn't even fixed. Also just unprofessional employees with a lack of communication. I called them to OK the service on my vehicle and then they call me 5 days later asking if I want to OK the service on the vehicle, so they clearly don't communicate well. I've had another bad experience with this shop before, back in 2017 when I had new suspension put it and they didn't fasten down the bolts on one of the struts so the thing was just banging around creating a lot of racket and messing with the feel of the ride. So I had to take it back to them so they could fix their mistake. Very unprofessional. If your car broke down and this was the only shop available you would be better off buying a bicycle. Dropped off my car early in the morning, didn't get it back until 20 minutes after the shop's closing time. At the start of this week, I needed to get new tires for my car and had called around several different tire shops to ask if they had these specific Michelin tires in stock. It just so happened that Pep Boys was the only shop that had my tires in stock, so I decided to go with them after giving them a call and being told that "as long as you drop off your car in the morning / before 12PM when the shop tends to get busy, we'll have enough time to service your car today". I specifically asked if I needed to make an appointment for my tire change, but the person on the phone said that I could "just bring it in as soon as you can today and it'll be serviced". I brought in my car to Pep Boys, DROPPED IT OFF at 9:40AM, and was told my car would be DONE by 12:30PM. Because this waittime was shorter than I expected, I walked over to a nearby coffee shop and waited until then. When 12:30PM rolled around, I heard nothing from the shop and checked the Vehicle Status link that was texted to me, which read that my vehicle wasn't assigned a technician. I waited a few hours since the person on the phone mentioned it was a busy shop, however after calling the shop around 3PM, I was told by another person that my car would be done WITHIN THE HOUR. I walked back to the shop around 3PM and by 4:30PM my car was STILL NOT DONE. I asked a few associates when my car would be done and kept getting the same response: "soon" with no specific timeframe given -- this went on until the shop's closing time at 7PM. At 7:20PM I FINALLY got my car back. What was supposed to be a 3-hour ordeal, turned into an ENTIRE DAY of waiting around for my car's tires to be swapped out (which only takes an hour or so, NOT an entire day). I had to wait until AFTER CLOSING TIME to get my car back and I honestly feel bad for the staff there at Pep Boys. 2 stars for this Pep Boys location because I'm feeling a bit generous to the staff, since this is clearly a management issue: 1 star for the tires I needed in stock + a successful tire change, and the other star for some employees (Tony and Eduardo I believe) that helped me process paperwork + updated me on my car's status after a whole day of waiting around. A bit of advice to Pep Boys management who sees this: please stop overbooking appointments and walk-ins, and stop giving short waittime estimates to customers if the reality is that service won't be done for hours on end. I'm glad I got the tires I needed, but I will not be making a stop at this location again for any service. read more

I can't recommend this business--especially Tony--enough! I've never had a positive experience at a tire shop until today. My dealership told me all four of my tires were worn out after only 19,000 miles, but Tony checked them and confirmed they're still in good shape. He also explained that the tires my Jeep recommended were far more than I actually need. It's refreshing to work with someone so honest and trustworthy in the car industry. I recently bought a used 1992 Toyota MR2 and brought it in specifically for a suspension inspection due to handling issues. I confirmed in that the shop would check the suspension related components such as sway bars. I hadn't lifted the car myself yet, as I wanted a professional opinion before diving into any work. While I was originally quoted 2 hours for the inspection, it ended up taking 4 hours. Afterward, I was told the following needed attention: 1) Rear tires are worn 2) Slight play in the front tie rod They did provide photos, which I appreciated. However, once I removed the wheels myself to start sourcing parts, I discovered two major issues that were completely missed: 1) The front sway bar is entirely missing, with the mounting point broken. 2) The rear sway bar end link is visibly bent. These are not subtle issues--they should have been identified immediately, especially given that the vehicle was already jacked up. I brought the car in for a thorough professional assessment, and it's very concerning that such obvious problems were overlooked. This kind of oversight defeats the purpose of getting a professional inspection. read more

The passenger side bulb went out I took it to JB automotive in San Jose and they replaced it for $78. Pepboys basically robbed me. Came in to replace a battery. No appointment, but I didn't get any kind of ballpark time that it would be completed. After an hour I asked someone who barely acknowledged my existence and he said that he'd check and tell me in about 5 minutes. He disappeared for 15 and never bothered to come back. It wasn't until another employee saw me staring out into the service bay that she informed me that it would be an additional 2-3 hours before the replacement was completed. I had an appointment in the East Bay and this was a problem because I had very little faith that this would actually get done. I understand that things happen, but this should've been disclosed or an update provided. It almost seems pointless to write a review on a clearly failing company, but they deserve it. When it comes to stupid and an example of how not to do something, look no further than these idiots. I bought a lifetime alignment from their Story Rd location (now closed) and recently got new tires I moved out of the area, but was back in town and thought I should get my alignment checked. After noticing on line the Story Rd location was closed, I made an appointment at this location (I did it around midnight). At the time, they had appointments at 8, 8:30, 9, 9:30, etc...with only the 8am unavailable. I took the 9:30 am appointment. I arrived at 9:30am and was seen promptly. I mentioned my lifetime warranty and they claimed I was not in their system and had to show proof. Fortunately, I still had the required paperwork. They went from happy to see me, to sorry we can't help you in a hurry. The guy said my car would be ready around noon. I replied that I had a 9:30 appointment and they replied 'that was to speak with an advisor' NOT TO GET WORK DONE! They said several people had walked in before me and that was my tough luck. Being in from out of the area, I figured I didn't really have a choice and I would just wait the 2.5 hours. I voiced my displeasure with their interpretation of how appointments work. Apparently that was all it took. Miraculously my car, that was supposed to take 2.5 hours was somehow on the rack within 15 minutes, but low and behold they didn't have the software to align my 2018 vehicle and I had to go to their Sunnyvale location if I wanted their warranty honored. I'm not a rancher, but I know BS when I smell it. This company doesn't want to honor their appointments, their agreements, or their customers. I had an appointment today at 3:00 for 4 tires and alignment. I got there at 2:50. No one was at the counter. I went into the service area. No one was there except about 5 -7 cars in the bay. I went back in any still no one except a guy sitting in the lounge. I went back into the service area and flagged a guy sitting and asked for some help. He finally notified a guy and he came out. He said can I help you and said I had an appointment for tire and alignment. He said wait a minute as the guy sitting in the waiting area was waiting for 30 minutes. He came over and inquired about tires and price. After about 10-1 minutes he declined and walked out. He said I was number -6 and would be ready by 6:00 PM. I said really, and I decided to leave. Why? No one working, at least 15 tickets with keys on the board, and a guy waiting 30 minutes just to inquire about tires/price. Never will go to Pep Boys again. read more
