What seems like an oasis turned out to be a mirage. We had 6:00 reservations on a Friday and arrived early to take advantage of happy hour. We were promptly seated in the seemingly nice outdoor patio against a fake ivy wall. The ivy may have been fake, but the vast amount of bugs hovering around it were not. Many opted for a suicide dive into their signature cucumber cocktail. We started with the pastrami wrapped dates and the chickpea fried cauliflower. Although tasty, the pastrami was more like jerky...very tough and long to chew. The cauliflower was woefully undercooked and was more like crudités. The major problem we had besides the minor issues already mentioned, is that my wife and I are trying to be as strict as possible with our ketogenic lifestyle. We asked if the fries that came with the $34.00 shaslick could be substituted with the artichoke. The waiter said that no substitutions were allowed and that if we wanted the artichoke, we would be charged the full price of the side even though it's the same price as the fries. When queried about this, he said that he would talk to the chef. Sometime later as he was meandering around the courtyard, he came by and said that they could substitute the artichoke. We both ordered this. When the mains arrived, we had one separate side of artichoke that we shared. The beef with the main was very tender and pretty tasty. I left my credit card with my wife as I utilized the facilities, when I saw our changes upon returning, they charged us full price for the mains sans fries and additionally charged us for a full retail side of artichoke. It's no wonder that this place was only half full on a Friday nigh. With their inflexible attitude with simple and normal requests as well as unethical pricing shenanigans, I can see why. I've been to Pera Soho prior to today and I have previously pleased with the food, service and overall vibes. After today's experience, I am concerned about their of respect guests. Not only were we reprimanded shortly after we sat down that we needed to order food (post Cuomo chips) , but after ordering apps and two rounds of drinks were given the check. Although the server said "sorry to rush y'all out", the manager (his name was Sez-had to ask because I needed to know the name of the person serving this much disrespect to customers) said he could "escort us out" if we didn't order full sized dinners. Other tables seemed to have the same experience. Look I get it, COVID has been tough. I get that we need to order food, and honestly - we were looking forward to the dishes at Pera Soho. After waiting 30 minutes for a table, we were there for one hour total between the moment we got seated to the moment we left.... If I'm eating food and drinking with a group of 8, I should be able to eat apps and drink a few rounds prior to dinner that's slated in a 2 hours reservation. Not only will I not be dining here again, but I will be informing future guests in my network the utter disrespect and disregard this institution encourages in its upper management. The only reason I tipped is because there was a gentleman that brought a new chair for our 8th guest whose chair broke at the beginning. Our dinner was beyond amazing. It was a gorgeous night so we ate outside and it was a magical atmosphere. The service was incredible. It was very attentive without being overbearing. We had the soujouk lollipops to start which were extremely flavorful. I had the grilled lamb sampler. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly and all of the ingredients were so fresh. My husband had the sirloin shashlik steak frites. It was melt in your mouth good! It really was a perfect dining experience in every way. Not open for brunch on weekday. Arrived at 12 at opening , service was extremely slow. Seemed like staff was behind in opening the restaurant. Didn't take our order after about 30 minutes of waiting. I had family visiting from out of town and we wanted to do a big family brunch in the city. Large spaces for brunch that take reservations are hard to come by- so we were super happy when we found this spot! This spot is huge- tons of seating inside and outside and a bar. The staff were super friendly and I love that they were able to accomodate our large group in a timely manner. I hate when a large groups order and only half the table gets the food- we were all able to get our orders in at the same time and we were able to enjoy our meal together. The menu also had accomodations for various dietary restrictions. We got their Mediterranean dip sampler for the table and all of the dips were delicious! I went with their crispy portobello gyro sandwich and fries- the sandwich was great and the fries were seasoned so well! I'll start by saying that Pera Soho has an absolutely beautiful outdoor seating area. A solid amount of lighting, stylish wooden tables, plenty of vegetation that makes it feel like a retreat from the urban background right outside (and they were successful in creating that environment). However, when we were seated by the wall, there were so many bugs flying around that it made it nearly impossible to eat or even have a conversation. We ended up moving to the other side of the restaurant, where there were less bugs. The drinks and food at happy hour were reasonably priced given the location, and pretty good. They have a pretty imaginative drink menu that is just about perfect for summer. Their happy hour prices are pretty much two for the price of one: $8 for two small plates that were pretty good. Service was incredibly slow, didn't bring us water refills when asked and brought the check very quickly. On top of that the food was terrible. I ordered shakshuka and it was covered with so much mozzarella cheese and the eggs way over cooked. The burgers were so so as well as the calamari and hummus. Maybe it was an off day? I took my partner to Pera Soho for an anniversary dinner! I reserved outdoor seating for the upstairs patio. I arrived and was unfortunately told that the patio was not available but we still had options to sit indoors or outdoors. We opted for imd and I must admit, the ambiance is so amazing space that I did not miss the up space. The art and lighting and overall vibes of this place is amazing! The service was fast and efficien. The staff aas super super friendly and knowledgeable about both the space and the menu. We had such high hopes for this place! After walking past it several times, we decided that today we would stop in for brunch. We love Mediterranean food, so we were super excited.
